A kitteny decision I have made

Again, the point is that the obstacles and opponents you face in pvp and in life do not exist solely for your entertainment. The ENTIRE point of competition is that the opponent is engaging you on THEIR terms, not yours. Satisfaction is to be found in self-mastery in such a way as to allow mastery of the circumstances.

If the thing you want to do in wvw is solo roaming, and the thing you wish to destroy the most in solo roaming is cheese builds, then go solo roaming with a class and build to hunt and destroy cheese. Be the bane of all perplexity engineers and condi/stealth mesmers you come up against, and revel in the knowledge that you’re smashing the thing that bugs you the most.

I don’t see anybody in this thread giving negative feedback about seeking out fights you want, it’s the fact that you’re taking other stuff so personally that you’re going to altF4 over running into a build you think is lame.

I’ve tried a few things out since the patch, including going back to cookie cutter d/d, doing a 30/30/0/0/10 s/d might/fury stacking build, and wvw focused staff build. I just can’t find something that ele is very good at that I want to do with this alt. So, at this point I’m back to what I first did right after the patch, which is switch my 0/30/0/10/30 s/d build to 0/30/0/20/20 and let go of EA.

The problem I keep running into is that everything I do I used to enjoy doing the most on my ele. Now, wvw is about the only thing I like doing with my ele, and I have several other characters who are more fun to play in there. Maybe I’m just burned out, who knows. Even with knight armor and berserker trinkets I just don’t put out as much damage as I think the class ought to, even when going 30 into both fire and air.

Going 30 into fire with boon duration runes and persisting flames you can stack a TON of might and fury for a LOOOOONG time, and I still feel like I’m hitting soft even on flame grab and churning earth – again, with knight armor and berserker trinket.

Ele is just not in a good place for me right now.

I can’t believe this thread. You only like to play if you win which seems rather childish. Eventually you just won’t log back in if you find it so easy to quit.

Why roam if you can’t handle a loss? Join a small group at least and then you can hopefully coordinate to beat those cheese builds.

This. A million times, this. If you’re going to pvp, whether it’s wvw, spvp, Counter-Strike, Call of Duty, or Mario Kart, you HAVE to embrace the idea that you’re going to lose. There are ALWAYS opponents, builds, and situations that will put you on your back, and you ought to be very grateful for them because those are the circumstances that provide you the opportunity to improve.

Pro tip: This concept applies quite well to athletics, jobs, and romantic relationships – along with many other real-life circumstances. If you’re never playing over your head to some extent, you’re going to be bored (and ultimately have a less fulfilling life).

I don’t run 0/20/30/20 for UF, I run it for fury on cripple for perma fury. I personally think UF is just laying there dormant most of the time and I’d rather have the more consistent pressure of perma fury. I mostly WvW, though, and don’t use my warrior for roaming.

Yup, same here. I went from 10/0/30/30 to 0/20/30/20. I lost around 2k health and some power, but I gained around 10% raw crit, and perma fury on top of that. Not to mention bleeds and vulnerability on crit. I felt a bit squishier, but we were outmanned by both JQ and SoR in BGBL last night so it will take some time to see how comparable it really is. I definitely don’t feel like I took a nerf, but I think any extra damage is mostly coming from the bleeds and vulnerability rather than hitting harder for raw numbers. Hammer and sword/warhorn, by the way.

If your server keeps the queues full and there are problems maintaining scouts you have multiple failures of leadership with respect to commanders and guilds. All servers are going to bork once in a while and a scout doesn’t get replaced when somebody leaves, however, that ought to be the exception rather than the rule. This is probably the second most common structure/organizational matter in WvW, right after “get on the commander’s tag.” If your server has the manpower to do so, but can’t get it right, ANet is the wrong place to be pointing fingers.

That said, defense rewards could certainly be looked at. However, it’s not so simple as just holding something. Maintaining an objective under your server’s control is completely meaningless unless it’s actually under attack, and rewards should reflect this. I would certainly agree that wxp gains as compensation for out-of-pocket upgrade expenditures ought to be involved in looking at defense rewards and such.

WvW Solution: Alt Unfriendliness

In an ideal world, my ranks are account bound and I can switch between characters in WvW without logging out and re-queuing. Some of us love playing alts, and have put a lot of time and effort into gearing multiple classes adequately and establishing the ability to play competently. For us, variety is what keeps the game fresh and is a (the?) pull to keep playing.

My ele has a staff with an animal head just sort of spiked on top. It’s better than the standard knobby stick, but not by much :/

Feb 1st - BG/TC/FA

Great fun was had in EB last night taking SM from FA. Tier 2 really is more fun than Tier 1 a lot of the time. Although, probably the most entertaining part of the assault was smacking TC down when they poked their noses in to see if they could ninja SM while BG was putting in the work. Can’t wait to do it some more after work.

Why does bleeding stack to only 25?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

psybako.1903

So, one tick per second per stack, right? This means that another way of think about stacks of bleeding is actually rate of bleeding. 10 stacks is 10 ticks/second, while 25 stacks is 25 ticks/second. Is that right?

How do you feel about leveling alts

Definite altoholic here. First to 80 was my necro, then an engi to 24 until I got bored and rolled a warrior to 38, got bored, and leveled a guardian to 80. Had the itch to have a real caster, and rolled an ele to 80 which I’m currently maining. However, I have a thief in process, the engi and warrior are still sitting, and the class that I really have an itch to play with is mesmer. So, I’ll probably do one of those in the very near future.

The guardian and elementalist were leveled fairly quickly. Once I got to the late 50s I blew a crafting boost and leveled two professions each (artificer/jeweler on the guardian, cooking/tailoring on the ele). Went from 59 to 80 in less than an hour on the ele just from crafting, and took a bit longer with the guardian because I started at 57 and couldn’t quite get all the way to 80 just with the crafting (made it just into 79).

I spent next to nothing on the second and third 80s, including mats for crafting, maybe 5 gold between the two characters? The guardian immediately went into karma exotics via a months worth of jugs and a karma boost. Played with the guardian in higher zones for a few weeks before leveling the ele and doing the same thing. Ele will be in AC exotics in a couple days, and has the karma exotics already.

I play less than 10 hours in a typical week, so it’s really not hard to do.

Concern About Upcoming WvW Prestige

Right now the most relevant currency from wvw (badges) are based on kills. No reason to think that kills won’t be a major contributing factor to the new system. Wvw related achievements in the monthlies have all been about kills too. Bet on it being connected to prestige.

Huge Disparity btwn Direct and Condition dmg

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: psybako.1903

psybako.1903

No way should 1 offensive stat (condition) be anywhere remotely comparable to 3 offensive stats (power, precision, crit damage). You want to do more dps? Equip more offensive stats.

The bleed cap is stupid though. I can’t see any point in having it.

The whole point is that there ARE no other offensive stats for condition builds! There aren’t even any primary attributes that increase condition damage, while there are two that increase direct damage so direct damage scales with level far more effectively. The other secondary attribute that affects condition damage (duration) can even have a negative effect due to stack limits if a long duration bleed based on low condition damage prevents a higher damage bleed from being applied. There are no drawbacks to the two secondary attributes for direct damage. So, even at a level of base character attributes, direct damage has guaranteed bonuses from two primary and two secondary attributes, while condition damage gets a guaranteed benefit from only one secondary attribute and MAY benefit from another secondary.

Huge Disparity btwn Direct and Condition dmg

OK

You guys are wrong.

Let me explain.

First of all, you need to compare:

power with 0% crit vs condition damage

not [power + crit + crit damage] DPS vs [condition] DPS

You can see why, right?

In one case, you’re using 3 stats maxed to achieve higher DPS than the other case where you are using 1 stat maxed out.

Second of all:

Condition damage ignores toughness.

This is a very big deal. Whereas direct damage is heavily mitigated by armor (toughness + defense), condition damage is not, allowing it to slice through heavy armor the same as light.

So again, instead of comparing direct damage on a paper target to condition damage on a paper target, compare them on a high armor target.

Remember – 0% crit to keep it fair.

1 stat.

Condition damage is already very strong, and allows bunker stats to be mixed in.

For people to go power+crit+critdamage, they need to be total glass cannons, and as such will spend a majority of their time in downed state.

Your efforts to cut out crit and crit damage from the comparison highlight the issue. Crit and crit damage are highly effective stats for dealing damage that are entirely unavailable to condition builds. Not just less effective, completely ineffective. Direct damage builds can trade-off some dps for survivability if they choose, while condition builds have no choice at all. You can’t just unilaterally decide that crit and crit damage don’t count/don’t matter, because they are baseline traits (at least crit% is, I’m not sure about crit damage).

Condition damage would, at best, have to be normalized to be equal to straight damage + base crit% chance (4%, I think?). Even then, capping condition stacks means that even if damage is held equal on a single player basis, group fight situations immediately start to reduce the efficacy of condition damage.

I’m curious about the armor/toughness deal. I’d like to see a real numbers scenario calculated out. I’m sure somebody with more maths willpower than I have could calculate loose breakpoints and/or time to die estimates based on condition stacks, armor, and general number/type of damage sources (i.e., party make-up of direct damage and condition builds).

The issue of tagging mobs in DEs (you know, those open world things that the devs are prioritizing and pushing to be a focal point of the PVE game) is at least as serious an issue. As it is, my necro (and even my ele) have a hard time tagging mobs as effectively as my guardian in the typical pen/shelt zergs. As the game shifts to emphasize bringing the community together in these events, attention needs to be paid to providing as close to equal ROI as possible for all builds. Give tag credit to healing numbers as well as damage, and my ele is happy. Not really sure what would help the most for my necro, other than reduce cooldowns for harder hitting skills.
