Please create a real ranked SOLO queue for the leagues, like it was a long time ago with the Solo Arena.
Then create a SEPARATE team queue or challenger queue for all the teams!
And leave unranked like it is right now (just remove skyhammer, pretty please^^)
With such an infrastructure, for example, 3 friends can still play together in an organized match in the unranked queue.
Solo players can play in a proper ranked queue with only other PUGs.
And then teams have a represantative environment to play against other teams.
Please, just please anet, create separate Qs for the 1. December….
I agree with you Gorisek, a better camera is needed. At least allow to use a free camera. Back in the days, they said they wanted to just try out this static cameras with defined viewpoints on each node. And that they would consider to make a free camera, if I remember correctly. Maybe there was not enough “riot” when they announced this spectator mode, so they just left it this way because no more time for coding was needed
But for sure, this is not the only reason why GW2 PvP is no Esports. (Btw. GW1 wasn’t esports too, but it was more competitive Guild/Team-Wise and more fun to watch through the spectator mode.)
@Pino: Of course GW2 PvP has tactics, actually a lot of it. Especially the rotations are the difficult thing to master in Conquest.
Well this could be simply solved by leaving the mmr as it is right now tho. (cause MMR != league rating)
But to fill up the leagues in advance would be a bad idea in my opinion. Because then, players with a high MMR are already in legendary and just have to play a few games to stay there and don’t need to play their way up. But yeah, for the matchmaking, the MMR should be used as it is right now.
EDIT: I actually don’t know if something regarding this was announced already.

This is something that I wanted to write a long time ago, more specifically, back then when the old soloQ system was removed for the unranked and ranked arena. But because I went inactive for 1.5 years (or something like that), I never cared to invest time to write this up in this forum. Now, I came back because of HoT and my interest in this game has been increased again over the past few weeks.
To the topic: I want to give a suggestion how an improvement of the pvp-system could be done. Of course, this is just my opinion and I don’t know if you see this the same way. But I just wanted to write this. Like Helseth said, we need to make the Devs aware that we want back our soloQ.
This is how the future pvp system could look in my opinion:
Hot-join: leave it as it is with custom servers, BUT more maps could be tested. As we saw in another forum topic, “16 unseen pvp maps”, there were a lot of maps created. Why don’t you implement some of those in Hot-Join? For example give 25 of your rooms (Like Room 075 – Room 100) new maps in the rotation to try out and mark those with [BETA]. And allow people to use these BETA maps in their own custom servers too.
Unranked Q: Use the system that you use right now (like in the Unranked and Ranked Arena). For example if I want to play with some friends that only play PvE normally, sometimes we want to play together. So leave an unranked queue where you can queue up alone or with friends, like it is now. But still leave the algorithms that you already created, so that people that join alone often play against other people that joined alone too etc. BUT, remove Skyhammer pls, nobody that I know or play with, likes this map. And just allow maps in this queue that were accepted by the community, or else it will end up like this unranked Q right now.
SoloQ/DuoQ (ranked): Add the old soloQ system or if you feel necessary, a duoQ. Then use the announced league system for this queue. A list of who is in which league, like a ladder, would be necessary too. (Take an example from LoL)
GvG/TeamQ/5v5 Ladder (ranked): However you want to call it, this 5v5 Queue is needed where only guilds or premade teams can join that consist of 5 people. This is already announced and is just here for the sake of a complete list. Use the announced league system here too (is also announced).
So, this is how it should look in the future in my opinion. With this, enough people should be available for every Q. And with the increasing player base because of F2P, maybe even more creative Qs could be added. For example a 3v3 TDM Queue with Courtyard etc. Maybe even some monthly and daily tournaments like in GW1 could be added (but this could hurt the ESL tourneys, so I don’t know about that). Please feel free to discuss about this and hype the SoloQ!

The best thing about GvG was, that the clear focus was on one point (flagstand mid), where big teamfights happen, but there was enough opportunity to split off some teammembers to raid their base, catch their flagrunner etc.
The main problem of stronghold is, that there is no main point of contestion (there are two lanes and very important mist-essence spawns at up to two other points) and there are too many boring tasks to do for a 5-player team (running supply).

stronghold would be improved if somewhere on the map a really strong buff or a more important supply area, so that more meaningful teamfights will be created…
and then maybe, remove some of the things that can be done right now, for example it could look like this in my opinion: remove the supply area, remove the two champions that can be called………..THEN add in the middle, or somewhere else, where both teams can be at the same time, a new buff. This will also summon such a champion that was already created, because they are awesome in my opinion, but make them stronger and even more gamechanging
Then for the doors, some options are available: let some door breakers appear in a given time intervall and MAYBE let the players damage the doors by themselves
This could be something that will focus the team fighting + will give split potential to still defend or attack the enemy doors
But yeah, this is probably too much of a change…the easier way would be to just improve the importance of the supply area.

I’d have nothing to say against recycled maps…just use the aesthetic and change some of the functionality…all the time and costs neede for finding concept ideas would be minimized.
For example “Isle of the Dead”: You could actually use this map pretty good for conquest, just put 3 points to capture in there, one at the top, and one before each base (as close points)
For stronghold the same goes: put at the top the supplies and let the npc’s walk another way (or something like this
)
But I actually think recycling could improve the map production

True, some of these maps look really good. I’d be down for testing more maps in custom servers too.
And especially this last MOBA-Style map looked really fun in my opinion..if there are some other objectives than these towers (for example something like in LoL, with monsters that give significant buffs)

the game timer is boring and kills the fun most of the time. increase it to 20mins and put in a victory or death mechanic. make the lords and guards come out to fight each other and give the team with more points a 20% damage increase. make them invulnerable until they reach each other.
Yep, remove the timer or make it longer. A VoD mechanic could be cool. Another mechanic could be, that you win if you made the most damage on the lord. (During the whole match, it counts every single damage value that you made on him, can’t be nullified with healing). The lord could still be healed up, but the damage counter remains at the same value.

i kinda missed those “omg this was just really sick!” moments and while killing the lord feels rewarding that’s the only moment in the game.
even wiping a team doesn’t really feel rewarding because it’s so easy for them to just respawn, the penalty is way smaller than in conquest. you should increase the respawn time by 2s for every minute that passes to add some spice! or make people hardresable (by pressing f like in wvw) and make auto respawn every 2 mins (2:00, 4:00, 6:00 etc) to make it interesting and punishing.
We actually had such moments that felt epic. For example, once all doors were open in both strongholds, and they pushed through to us. We rotated with the whole team to defend our lord, the lord goes down, we rezz him, and stomp all the enemy players. Then we push immediately to their lord, and are able to kill him. So there are such moments
But yeah, I agree with you that a mechanic that increases the respawn timer to add more of epic moments could be good.
This also something that will time tell tho. If people use proper tactics and know more about this gamemode, it could be quite possible that more epic moments appear even with 15 sec respawn time. (BUT the 15 sec timer allows to come back and defend the lord even if two guys died or something like that, so I’m actually not sure about this point.
)

if you manage to add more spice to stronghold i can see this game mode becoming more popular than conquest. for the future and after perfecting this map i hope you will add another 2-3 as soon as possible because after testing this for a long time it really got boring because it was the same map over and over again. also, it’s not a bad thing to recycle things from gw1 GvG maps, your company made those maps and people liked them, nobody will get angry if you take some inspiration from there^^i appreciate your efforts and it looks promising so far but we’re not there yet! keep up the good work and take as much feedback as you can
Yeah, I actually think this gamemode could be the future for the competitive scene, with some things added/changed. And I had fun playing it.
The most important point would be to increase the amount of teamfights in my opinion.

same goes for the lord, i feel like the lord fights are easy and even if the enemy has banners and stuff, eventually the lord will die. give the lord guards more hp and maybe add some lord guards that are dedicated lord healers. the lord and all guard npcs in the match should get their health back when out of combat, they don’t have enough hp to justify this, especially because gw2 doesn’t have dedicated healer mechanics.
overall the lord feels weak, he is not really a threat, nor a real boss. make him more dangerous for he is THE lord after all.
Same here, time will tell in my opinion.
But we could defend the lord multiple times as a team. You just have to rotate properly, so that you make it in time. (very difficult in soloQ, but as a team it is possible)

heroes were kinda weak and usually die before they get to a gate (even when protecting) and are only strong when the enemy is defending their lord and you get some surprise heroes in.
Hmm..I thought they spawned pretty often and i thought they gave the team pretty good support. I think if you want to make them stronger, you’d have to increase the spawn timer for the “buff appearance”.
So for me, with the 3 minute timer, they seemed fine. But then again, time will tell more. 24 hours is just not enough time to test this new gamemode.

channeling was a bit annoying. i can understand it at the supply camp but you should change it at hero channels to the way stillness works. as it currently is you can send your tankiest stability class with a transform elite and you will get it most of the time. stillness has more of “an eye for an eye” mentality, you kill for that buff, but this here is just annoying and lame, especially because the heroes are not even that strong.
That is a good point. But probably it would be better to remove the ability, that you can channel with an elite skill. I like the fact that you need to interrupt someone with a skill and not only with an auto attack.

overall i felt like PvP combat is less important than in conquest, often ignoring the players at the supply camp, picking up, spawning npcs and only really fighting at heroes or lords.

Thats true, i felt the same way, at least sometimes. Me and my mates had teamfights but just not as often as in Conquest. I’d need to test Stronghold longer, to see if the amount of teamfights would raise when people figured out more about the gamemode and proper tactics.
But anyway, my suggestion for that problem, if it is one, would be that something more than only supplies is needed in the middle (or somewhere else). For example if you would have some kind of debuff if you die, then you could fight for a buff that would nullify the debuff (Like in GW1 GvG with the flag mechanic). This would draw more people in a teamfight during the match and not only in the lord rooms at the end.
An other possibility would be that there is only one hero, who is super strong, and the teams could actually battle in a teamfight to get him and gain a huge advantage. He would only spawn at a specific time.

I thought the lord room and was big enough actually. With proper positioning on the higher ground, it was no problem to kite.

sometimes i feel like 5 players weren’t enough. 6v6 could be better, 8v8 too much. if arenanet could increase the size of the lord room and the supply camp it could be better with 6v6 (even for 5v5 the lord room is already too small).

But I’d stay with a 5v5, the number 5 adds a more exciting rotation game, cause you won’t have on both lanes a 3v3 with always one guy splitting to the depot or something. It’s much more interesting if you have something like a 3v2 and 2v3. Or 3v3 and 2v2 (then one team would have 2 guys on their def lane, and the other team 3 guys on the def lane, which would require other builds etc.) I hope you understand what i mean. I just think 5 is a better suited number than 6

the guard npcs are too weak and die too fast. as ele i can rush there on gamestart and take them down with frostbow in a matter of seconds, this makes archers useless.
the guards need to be almost immune to player attacks so that it’s worth getting archers to kill them. put the focus on protecting archers you spawn instead of just dpsing the guards down, especially because it’s also easy points.
Hmm…they are kinda weak. But that makes it more drilling/important to defend them. When I played def lane, I could actually almost always defend the first push of a player so that the guards didn’t die. Just use CC in the right way and boon remove for stability. So, I think it’s possible to defend them right now, even though they seem weak. Your point of view is understandable but I think this is a matter that will be cleared when we can play some more stronghold.
and you also seem to forget that this is a dps guard, probably using zerker amulet….
i came back after months of inactivity just to see that skyhammer is still in the soloQ rotation….

Mesmer has way more boon remove than necro though

1.) Yes, bunker is not a good choice for a necro..and that’s also something I’ve never played in tourneys
2.) roaming is most of the things I do…I play always with warhorn (the 2 sec. daze is so awesome
) with this, you are almost as fast as an engi..
and the condi dmg is probably not as good as the one from engis, but you have boon remove..wich I like more than a little bit more dmg…(and anyways, I also think that engi is in general a bit better and needs a little tweak, but that doesn’t make necro a bad choice if you can play it)
Of course you aren’t that fast like an ele, mes, warrior etc. but you have other advantages. (like boon remove ;P)
3.) & 4.) for that you play MM…with the right build you will beat even rangers in 1v1…I have never fought against teldos updated far point assault build so till now.. so I don’t know if that is beatable
but till last weekend..I’ve beaten every class in 1v1 as an MM.
and to summarize it:
I never said you can do something better as an other class..but you can do it good in an other way

no problem…I’ll play with my MM build…this one is exactly made to play against mesmers

necro isn’t bad…it just has a higher skill cap than engi..that’s why all the players prefer to play the easier class…
in my guild team I play only necro and it works pretty good…if we would have more time to play right now, we would easily play always in the top200 if not in top100 EU..
like someone already said in this thread, you just need to be creative with the builds..at the moment I play 5 viable builds, all selfmade…for every map a suitable build..for example on temple I play crit-dmg with wells on niflhel MM to beat the rangers etc.
P.S. every of these builds has swiftness

I’ll think a free cam would be much better…if you watch now a game in the spectator, specially when you watch it on twitch.tv where you can’t change the camera by yourself, the angles are sometimes very bad and you don’t see all the things that happens on one point..

of course it costs to host a own server wich is permanently online…I can’t see the point in complaining…
have you never been playing any other game with servers you can customize by yourself and stay permanently? Probably not…otherwise you wouldn’t complain..

I agree totally to that, it can’t be that some classes can prevent stomps for 99% and some not…

but you can do this tactic only on khylo and niflhel..because on foefire the running ways are the same
but def ele only the half of the problem with this meta, the other half are these two skills: timewarp and portal
because of this two skills they will always have 5 guys at the first mid fight and a timebubble wich is an HUGE advantage if they pop it at the right time…
that forces you to use also an mesmer on your home point or you’ll have a big disadvantage….

NEW BUG: minions rezz eles and remove revenge from warriors!
1.) if an ele is in the downed state and press his skill 2 to get in the mistform, then there just needs to die an minion and he gets a rally…
2.) if an warrior gets in his revenge mode, he can remove it when he kills a minion…
I don’t think this works as planned, because I noticed this bug only since the last update with the lost shores

1v1 wouldn’t change the balance, because every class can win against every one at the moment….all these threads about op classes are more like l2p issues…the balance in this game is extremely good, there are only some bunker builds wich ruin the meta in tpvp, but with the new timer this could also be fixed
but thats just my opinion…i’d like a 1v1
