Play what you like. Just remember zerker, assassins or for reapers, Valkyrie gear. Away you go. You will be most optimal on what you know
I find it hard to argue against what I’ve read about necro in that although I’d like to see investigating next to all points
ive killed the anomaly with staff before bit it did take a bit of time. I used to play axe a lot because it’s cool and at first I thought axe 2 did good damage, until I understood DPS.
So how much better is scepter as a ranged power weapon?
Simply because I enjoy it
Any one else enjoying being accepted as a necro in dungeons now?
I used to find it would take a while for the group to fill up on lfg with a necro in the group, but now it fills up as quick as if I was on my mesmer or ele.
So do you feel more accepted in parties and why do you think it’s better now?
I’m suggesting a sticky as this has huge potential as a resource
STICKY PLEASE
My necro just about had more hours than my mesmer main but has been demoted to tailor because I feel I can do more stuff with the mesmer and be of more use to the team. For easy stuff the necro wins as its damage is easy to put out and it has plenty of aoe. Whilst the necro can take more of a beating, mesmer can avoid the beating.
Since you have said open world and not dungeons I would suggest necro as you can get perma swiftness with warhorn and spectral walk. Also condis are becoming more important in world boss fights so more options are open to necros.
Minion builds are alright but last time I tried it the flesh golem was a pacifist. I hope it’s been fixed.
Necro is definitely easier to level.
Mesmers stealth is handy for bypassing nasty champs at vistas and skill points. And access to evades, vigor and invulnerability is lovely.
I have no experience at pvp though so no help there.
Signet of ether mixed with lifesteal food can be a nice way of keeping the scholar bonus active whilst also have the option of popping that 3rd phantasm out nice and quick. Just don’t use it in the silverwastes.
I personally levelled with shatter to start with as mind wrack can be traited early on. I then moved on to phantasm as that interested me and has a bit more distraction for mobs and is also easy to trait for early on (phantasms fury, phantasms strength). Condi is harder to trait for but by all means play what you want. Mesmer is great and has many builds to try.
Take illusionary persona trait to shatter yourself and mantra of pain. Mirror blade with illusionary elasticity can be pretty nice too. In my attempts to farm with mesmer I’ve found these to be best. Sigil of Fire also helps a lot
I was having a different experience last night with caudecous manor.
I put a party up saying please teach me this dungeon. A couple of times the lfg tool erased the post as it was ignored. I joined a party and said I don’t know this path but I have my mesmer reflects and they say no problem. We wipe on the rockets and everyone leaves. I then put up p3 all welcome and one person joins. After a while he changed p3 all welcome to just p3 and the party fills up. I say again that I don’t know this path and one person leaves. I eventually did all 3 paths but getting a group was hard work whilst avoiding the sellers.
I was initially encouraged by this post for doing dungeons I don’t know, but I must mix with different people.
Just think that your opponent may feel unmanned after being beaten up by a shower of purple butterflies
I took the photo to send to my mate as I was logging off at the time. At first glance all I saw was a pathetic crit but I just assumed something strange had happened. If you check your combat log it will say “you hit —-- for **** using [mage strike]” so I did not crop out the source of the damage.
A guildy used illusion of life on me in a boss fight and it said that I hit myself for 15k!
That’s your sword clone…
You couldn’t let people have more time to ponder?
Ah I get you. Thanks for clarification
Or did he mean chaos storm?
Does a pull count as a daze or is the confounding suggestions tooltip a little vague?
I applied 9 months ago but didn’t hear anything. May I try again please?
Mesmer name: Saxy Imagery

Pve 99% of the time
Mostly on Thursday and Sunday between 7-10 pm and during the week if I finish work early.
And instead of the healing mantra you can buy an endless tonic. The leave transform button is on your heal slot so you can still run and keep your preferred heal ready. It’s fun to run as a quaggan.
As to original question, I think mesmer is awesome. I enjoy it because it’s not rotation based gameplay like an engi or ele, but it’s also not just there to bash heads.
I’m glad you’ve fallen in love with the mesmer. It’s the one class I truly enjoy in this game.
The only answer I have for you is the focus #4 temporal curtain secondary skill into the void: it pulls from the center but doesn’t pull to the center. So if you drop it in the middle of a group they will end up 600 units on the opposite side of the curtain. If you pull from the side of the group it’ll work better. I do pve not pvp so it’s easier for me to pull mobs against a wall than it will be for you to pull players on a point onto a phantasm.
The only thing I can think of but a pro player may think I’m wrong, is to pull to group them up, summon warden and aoe stun with mantra daze before they disperse. As I said I don’t pvp so that may not work.
Good luck with your awesome choice of profession
I’m usually listening to my mate swearing about pugs in soldiers gear in COF or AC
8/10 very striking sylvari and I think the colours of the armour blend well. Suitable as a Sylvari necro as they aren’t evil, just curious.
Here is my Mesmer “Saxy Imagery”. I love how much variety you can get out of different players Sylvari’s
I’ve skipped to the bottom so I’m not late for work so sorry if some one has already said this…
What if Deceptive Evasion was in “Illusions”? In my mind it is an illusionary skill and therefore belongs in that trait line. Thoughts?
Ok I need to find some better commanders or zergs then because I do this and almost every zerg I join gets wiped. Surely it’s not because of me!
I think I’ll have to try this build next time I punish my pc by zerging. Coming from PVE the hybrid phantasm build works for me with zerker trinkets, but any time I zerg I die (i’ve only been in one zerg that didn’t get continuously wiped) .
I gather from listening to old episodes of Mesmerised that the triforce build is better suited to a guild of mesmers. So time to try the Zerg mower. Any tips for a pve player? Don’t worry I’ll do eotm so I don’t bring down the server score.

Looking to learn a bit more about mesmerising and hopefully do some mesmer dungeon stuff when my guild is being quiet.
Server: Seafarer’s Rest (EU)
Well after doing a fractal run with this guildie he’s decided to have me on the team. We’ve got 2 guardians, 1 hammer and 1 sword, ele, engi and then me for the trash and sustained condition dps. Initially the reason he didn’t want a necro is because of its lack of utility against bosses around 25-35 and onwards, but with 3 reflect walls in the group I shouldn’t be a liability;) I’m only now lvl 8 fractal so plenty yo learn but should be good.
I can understand a lot of the complaints but it seems with group composition that mostly gets negated.
Actually I do tend to run well of power in my 3rd utility. Hate getting stun locked.
One of the members in my guild has decided to put together a dedicated fractal group, which has the usual of a guardian and mesmer in there, not too fussed what other classes finish off the group, but necro is a big no no! I’ve asked why and for whatever reason I get, I guess I’ll have to find a way of proving him wrong. Either that or find other people to play with.
Nemesis, thank you for this build. For a while I ran the hybrid, I spent 60 gold on the runes of divinity, tried the conditionmancer, and now I don’t like playing any other build or class.
I have not found a time when I wish I had direct damage, and as everyone else hates running conditions I tend to get the whole stack of bleeds to myself, and with the new condition floaters, it is beautiful seeing 3k bleeds everywhere.
I’m assuming the threat mechanics work on damage because with this build I do find myself focused so much more than before, and this kills faster than the other necro builds (for me at least). So that’s my only complaint.
On another note, I agree with going into blood magic. But I choose to use transfusion for spike healing the team every 40 seconds.
Once again Nemesis, thank you
Oh that’s great Bas. Still at least with the YouTube sound thing I can listen to the back catalogue.
You guys have been doing great work with making this place less miserable and I’ve picked a few tips from your podcasts. Thank you
Well it took about an hour to get five podcasts from YouTube to my phone. I’m all set for learning some necro stuff, starting with episode one. Thanks for the help Bhawb.
Thanks Bhawb, that will give me a chance to hear if you get a chance to talk now ;-)
Oh I see. I listen to the podcasts as I drive my truck around London every night and as I run out of podcasts I find myself putting up with the aweful British radio. If I’m playing I can’t consentrate on the podcast, as such YouTube isn’t much good to me on the road with the extortionate data charges.
If any one knows how I can perhaps strip sound from YouTube videos I would be really greatful.
Shame about the problems Bas but keep up the good work.
If that’s what it takes. I would guest first before paying though. I’ll be giving pandion knights a try first.
I’m only looking because my current guild seems to have ceased activity.
Thank you. Will have a look over the next couple of days.
Hi I love the show, I’ve learnt a few things and I thank you for it. But two questions: what’s happened to the podcasts on iTunes? I am running out of things to listen to at work! And secondly, is there a way I can download the older shows that aren’t on iTunes?
Hi, myself and a friend are looking for an active guild on seafarers rest where we can either explore the world or play dungeons other than cof p1 without the dangers of pugging. They always go better with communication. We’re both about 25 so a guild not made up of kids is preferable. So who’s out there?
