I bought GW2 because I liked the idea of being rewarded for exploration. HoT punishes exploration by making me grind events in order to explore.
I would’ve preferred if the story wasn’t gated behind masteries, if the zones were fully explorable without masteries, and if masteries were completely optional features that granted cosmetic rewards.
I played for about 3 hours last night and that’s as much time as I think I’ll spend in the HoT zones. Such a waste of money. Wish I never bought it. GG Anet, you’ve won.
I don’t PvP. This is strictly for PvE.
They do no damage, have poor AoE, and are very fragile. You must use all of your abilities and careful consideration to take down veterans, whereas a basic guardian can just run in guns blazing and take them out. I see no advantages to running a DH over a basic GS guardian, save for the ranged advantage.
Agreed. The trinity is a better system than what we currently have.
Leveling is an archaic means of “character progression” that serves zero purpose in 2015. Thankfully ArenaNet was smart enough not to add another meaningless 10-20 levels for us to grind out with Heart of Thorns. MMOs should allow us to progress our character through things like the mastery system or specializations, not meaningless levels.
If anything they should add an instant level 80 tome in the game shop. Or birthday boosters or something.
Does anyone know a good build for general pve? I find it hard to make one that has a good balance of damage and tankyness. I typically use GS/mace and shield if that matters.
Who uses a balanced build in PvE? :P Go zerk or go home!
I just like running around the world and doing group events. I hate dungeons and fractals..

Our damage even with a berserker build is average. Our bunker/tank option is passable, but you trade out so much damage for utility that I don’t think it’s worth it. However, seeing as it’s the only viable option, most Guardian players just go with it.
The only natural condition we apply, burning, lasts for half a second. On use it’s like 4 seconds, but then you have to wait for the recharge. Yeah you could spec for condition duration, but that’s detrimental do your damage output. Which is already average.
Our health pool is hilariously bad, even with the gimmick of aegis/blocks. If you don’t build defensively you will die very fast. I get what they were going for, but the block system needs to be changed if it’s going to justify us having such a low natural health pool.
Half of our weapon skills are useless. Why the shield, the iconic Guardian weapon, is the worst skill, I’ll never know. Other honorable mentions include the torch, hammer, and mace. Scepter needs range increase.
I get what they were going for with the Guardian. But when I feel like I tank better and do more damage with my Thief, something’s wrong. We need more build options. HoT will either fix it or make it even worse.
Does anyone else think we need a good 2-3 more races in this game? The current selection for a guy who wants to play as a cool looking MALE in this game is pitiful. If you like playing as the typical pretty female, then you’re probably fine. But for those of us who like playing as a rugged adventurer, we don’t have many options. Here’s what I think of the current races from a MALE perspective:
Charr are too fat and look downright ridiculous. If they looked more like their concept art then more people might take them seriously. But they look weird in armor. Maybe they should be redesigned to appear more athletic and toned?
Humans are too pretty. I don’t want to play a thief who looks like he part time’s as an A&F model. I want a battle hardened, ugly thief who looks suspicious and untrustworthy. Too bad I can either make a soft looking drag queen or a polished pretty boy. More options, please.
Sylvari are actually ok and I don’t have too many issues with them. They look good in armor for the most part and have a couple of solid face options. But even then some of the faces are too girly and soft. Where is my “desecrated by fire” face option? Why is there literally zero variation or experimentation here? You’re supposed to have fun with unique races.
Norn are what humans should look like. I play as a Norn because they look like manly men. I made a Norn with long, unkempt hair and giant mutton chops/a braided beard. They have good stern but not model-like faces. This is a solid race.
Asura are so stupid I’m not even going to bother.
So, PLEASE, can we get some more options going? At the very least?

well nvm I guess the forums bleeped it out lol
I want to name my asura necromancer “Zenz Mckittens” will this name get me banned? I don’t know so that’s why I’m asking here.
arena net has already lost 764 brownie points with me. Forced me to play other games.. deleting my posts and merging it with others…This “event” is actually cutting into the notion of buying the xpansion. 3 days ago I was willing to throw $ at them…but not anymore.
trololololololololllll
I don’t know what airplane crash people are talking about. Arena Net doesn’t have to take into account your ridiculous “opinions” or sensitivity factors when creating an event.
With that being said I find the event to be pretty annoying. I don’t like the screen flickering but that’s my only main problem.

they should have an option where pressing the ` key or whatever makes the cursor glow/pulse with a noticeable color.
Can’t wait for the jumping puzzle leaderboards! Thanks for asking that question btw.
1. I’d like to know how the developers plan on keeping sub-specializations on an even playing field with their original counterparts. So for example, we know that rangers will have the option to become a druid, but what’s keeping every ranger out there from changing into a druid? Will I have any incentive to create a ranger and stay as a ranger? Will druids be more mechanically advanced than the ranger? Will all rangers be expected to specialize as a druid?
2. Another question I have is what the developers’ stance on meta builds are. Are meta builds encouraged? If not, are there any plans to widen the viability we have when choosing traits? Where does ArenaNet see the trait system going in the future?
3. Will we see more jumping puzzles?
And will you be doing an Angry Review of the expansion when it launches??

I wonder if people that ask for an armor that costs maybe 15k-20k gold, already have
alle legendary weapons and still sooo much money ?
And here I can barely hold on to 50g
Some things to be cautious of:
-She is a young girl, right at the age where she will really start feeling the effects of media pressure on women, to be sexy and unhealthily skinny. Guild Wars 2 is no exception when it comes to negative media—the female characters are often hyper sexualized (see female humans, female norn). Make sure she has a healthy understanding of what is real and what is not, a good body image, and the awareness to resist the casual sexism inherent in a game like this.
God people like you are the bane of my existence. Get real for a minute. A little girl isn’t looking at a video game character and wondering why her kitten doesn’t look like that. And something tells me your definition of “unhealthily skinny” is what normal guys would call a banging body.
The only sexism in this game is YOU.
Thanks for making this, it’s just what I was looking for! I don’t switch my build out so it’s important to have a balanced build that can do a bit of everything; which this one succeeds in doing. The only thing I changed was swapping out Writ of Exaltation for Superior Aria, and I’m using Retreat for the swiftness as well. I think I also switched out Writ of Persistence for 2h Mastery, but I’d have to double check that.
Instead of flower pots or Dr. Octopus claws?
I saw this build suggested on a youtube video and thought it was a pretty good start for what my goal is. Basically I want a go-to build that deals decent damage but offers good survivability and group support. Think of a “jack of all trades, master of none” build. Something that will work in dungeons, wvw, boss farming, or just running around in different zones.
Anyways, this is what I have:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fVAQFARl0ApVo1CxcI8DNR8QVVAg9TEFV617QMcEA-w
note I didn’t create this build
As I said before, I like it, but was wondering if there are any tweaks I could make to better improve on what my goal is.
I think it would be cool if gw2 had player houses like in archeage. only in gw2 you should be able to build it anywhere you want. this is what the people want.
What was the logic behind making the clock tower an instanced race? I spend more time waiting for the ‘event’ to start than I do actually playing the jumping puzzle. Maybe in the future we could have regular jumping puzzles?
I’ve nearly completed all of them. My favorite one is the Southsun Cove one, so you should make more like that.
So whenever I do a WvW match everyone always follows someone with a commander title. I looked around and found out that the only thing you need to purchase the title is 100g. If there aren’t any WvW achievements associated with buying this title, why do people blindly follow them around? What’s stopping me, someone who has no idea what they’re doing, from spending $50 USD on gems and converting them to 100g to buy the title?
I just started playing again after quitting around November. I had a heavy zeal build that put a lot of emphasis on spirit weapons, but now I’m hearing that spirit weapons suck and zeal is the worst guardian trait. Is this true? I’m using some copy/paste 0/0/30/30/10 build right now and hate it, but at the same time want to be effective.
I created a Sylvari thief with the intentions of him being a silent assassin. I imagined him having a sharp, deep voice with a cold tone to it. Sort of like a “I-don’t-want-to-be-messed-with-so-kitten-off” type of voice. However, whenever he says something in the game, I consider deleting him just because of the amount of stupid his voice has in it.
For those unaware, he says things like “my power has no limits!” or “in the name of friendship!” in a super gay voice that makes me want to punch something. It would be like the Terminator having Justin Bieber’s voice. This is NOT what I imagine my kitten thief sounding like! I want a voice that makes my enemy’s blood run cold; not something that sounds like I’m handing out hugs or holding hands with everyone.
Hopefully I’m not the only one who feels this way. My Norn guardian’s voice is pretty supid too, but at least it sounds like a grown man is talking. I can live with the horrible catch phrases the characters like to say, but the voice tone is horrible.
I’m going to make a new character, and it’s come down to either a ranger or a thief. I like playing archer type classes in other games, but I’ve seen a lot of negativity towards the ranger and am having doubts. Are they really in a bad state or are people just overreacting? I’m going to blow a fair amount of gold to powerlevel via crafting so I’d like to know before I start buying the materials.
I just hit 80 and I’m not really sure what to do.
sorry don’t think you can get a second chest…i know i tried.
People from my guild got it a second time.
I thought it was really fun, but the reinforcement waves were too long.
We will offer character name changes through the Black Lion Trading Company/Gem Store in the future. It’ll be a while, I think, but it is coming.
That’s awesome. Thanks for the info
Hey, I was wondering if there’s currently a feature that allows you to change your character’s name. I’m asking because I have a level 50 that I would like to add a last name to. Since it’s at a fairly high level, I don’t want to recreate it just for the sake of having a different name, but it is something I would definitely want to change.
If this feature isn’t available, I think it’s something that should definitely be added to the game. I’d be willing to pay a lot of gems (even $15 which I think is what WoW charges) for a character rename service.

It looks weird when viewing your map, but when you’re actually in the zone you wouldn’t know it’s a rectangle.
Thanks for the info. Do you have any idea when “a later date” is? I guess what I’m asking is would it be more logical to just remake my character or wait (a week for example) for the possibility of a roll back?
So would it be better to just recreate the character or wait for them to add the restoration feature?
Hey everyone, I recently deleted my level 32 Guardian by accident. I wasn’t paying attention and meant to delete a different character. But anyways, this was my main that I’ve been playing since the 3 day headstart and I’d really like to be able to get it back. Is there any way that a restoration (just this once) can be used on my account? I understand that people who got their accounts hacked have account restorations, so could the same tools be applied to my account?
Thanks
