Because GW1 was instanced, ofc you’re not going to see all the bots -.-
the Radeon 6970 would work perfectly imo.
I have the 6870(which is slightly under the 6970), and that performs exceptionally well, with everything maxed (except super-sampling ofc), and a very good, smooth framerate (except in lion’s arch though, a ot of clutter there pulls the fps down a bit).
So i’d imagine a 6970 would do even better than my card, and it comes at around $170-200, which is comfortably within your budget.
Heres a quick side-by-side of your card, and the 6970:

Sooooo many things, but one thats at the forefront of my mind atm is:
When i first entered Gandaren Fields, from the norn side, i was doing events in the snowy area, also doing a few heart quests etc. I eventually did everything in the northern snowy part and i found a cave with a lot of ore in it, so yeah, i thought i’d grab all that. Whe mining the ore, i realised the tunnel kept going, with the prospect of even more ore i kept going, and i ended up on some random hill, mining ore at the bottom of it and i road going up the hill, i couldn’t see over the crest of the hill’.
I don’t really know why, but after collecting the ore, i felt intrigued to know what was over this hill, so i followed the road, and when i came to the crest of this random hill, i saw a gigantic fortress appear, seemingly out of nowhere. It was Vigil’s keep, my first time seeing it, completely randomly, and starting from wanting to colect some ore in a tunnel.
A little silly perhaps, but i thought it was awesome :P
I’m rather ashamed to say, i haven’t been playing GW2 in the past few days. not because I’m bored, or that i have nothing to do, I just have other things to do(Dishonoured, the Total war mega-pack i got on sale on steam, as examples), and now that i’ve started my second year at uni, my free time has been severed completely. (Yet saying this, i’ll be back when the halloween updates go live, they look amazing, and i can’t wait to see the mad king)
So i don’t have time at all to play GW2 at the moment, but the time i’ve spent in game so far, that time being around 200 hours or something ridiculous, has been easily worth every penny of my purchase, why, it’s been so fun, i bought a copy for my brother so we could play together, and he’s now got 200 hours + on the game as well.
This is easily the best MMO i have played to-date, and i can’t wait to jump back into the game, when my schedule calms down a bit.
Cheers Anet, keep up the work for Halloween!
I’m not particularly fond of the current way the commander book is working.
People with more money than brains, can simply buy their way into a commander role, and i don’t think this title should be able to be thrown around so easily. It should be a prestigious thing, a commander is someone you should want to follow, not simply because he’s a blue point on the map, but because he has either: earned his position in some way or he has been given his title by the server community, because of his/her role they have played in WvW.
So here is my suggestions, for the betterment of the commander title, in my view.
A commander title should be:
A title put upon 4 people (hopefully one for every BG), that lasts for two-three full time games.
The commander title, should only be bestowed on people, whom have been voted into the position. This ensures only the people who deserve to have the title, get the title, though the commander title should most likely give off more powers, but i digress.
To get into the running for these elections, you would have to put up your name, while also paying a fee of 10g+(so not everyone passing by Lion’s arch can, or will, put their name onto the running. Only people with firm backing will go for it. I.E. leaders, or trusted individuals, of big WvW guilds), onto the ballot papers in Lion’s arch. After a few days or so, the elections will begin, they’ll run a week(the week the current commander titles will have run their course) or so.
Of course, we shouldn’t take away the powers of the individual, people still should be able to make squads, possibly with a simple gold sink of 50g+(a ‘captain’ book or something), but these ‘captains’ would not be seen by everyone on the map, like the current commander books. But, they would be seen by the commander, so that the commander can communicate with, and delegate responsibility to the captains of individual squads. These captains would have all the powers of the old commander title, but would only have those powers inclusive to their squad only.
These suggestions do a few things. First, they help to build, and facilitate, more organisation inside of WvW, by the breakdown of the ‘Commander’, whom should be the leading role for the entire battleground, and the ‘captain’ who leads his squad, hopefully under orders from the commander.
Second, this helps create a community around the way a commander is chosen, and it helps get people more involved in WvW and helps make this commander someone worthy of following.
Thanks for reading.
race change and name change are understandable. Race change because: personal choices(the ones where you make your character) are tied to race, thus they are tied to personal story. It would be incredibly hard to change these without many bugs are screw ups. Name change: because they want to build up a good server community. If someone can be a kitten, then escape his kittenism by changing his name, it kind of falls apart.
Though, if Anet don’t put in an appearance change feature into the gem store, they will seriously miss a trick there. I already want to change my rangers appearance, I’ve made his head way to small and i want a different body type >_>
i hate AC. Every molecule of my body hates that place, I refuse to set foot in it every again.
Yet, i love Caudeceus’s Manor and i absolutely love Sorrow’s Embrace (that last boss on story mode was incredible).
I’ve pretty much quit my level 80 thief for now, until the orr zones get fixed (it’s rather funny and tragic. after the last patch the temple of balthazzar event started working for awhile…a good hour or so, then the southern invasion decided they didn’t want to send out their reinforcements any more, and just like that, zone broken again. Sad really.), this is because i’ve become somewhat of a completionist when it comes to zones in GW2. That meaning, i won’t leave a zone until i’ve atleast taken part in every meta event chain, to it’s completion, since some of these chains are excellent and great fun, and not being able to play them feels like i’m skipping content and leaving zones unfinished.
I’ll continue playing my ranger for the time being, hoping every day, that the Balthazzar event will finally be fixed so i can finally enjoy the zone to it’s fullest.
I think, one of the things that is really needed, is an F2 ‘scorpion wire’ type ability, that steals from range.
Easily implemented i would think: the player throws a wire to the enemy and the player gets the stolen item (think of it like a grappling hook in zelda games).
aside from that, i do believe thief could do with some more class based utility skills. Perhaps removing shadowstep from sword and the utility skill, and then replace it with a universal shadowstep/return skill? with a longer cooldown probably to compensate.
what the hell did i just read?
yeah yeah, great patch…
Too bad Temple of Balthazzar event is still bugged on Gunnar’s Hold :/
Gunnars Hold – EU
Event is stuck at ‘reinforcements form the central invasion have arrived. Waiting for reinforcements from the north.’
But even when the northern invasion fully succeeds, it doesn’t send the reinforcements. Also, the central and southern invasions are both stuck.
loving Orr so far :/
you don’t have to immediately go to orr you know…
I’ve just turned level 80 now, and i am now just starting Straights of Devastation.
Go do some other zone, or go to wvw to level, or do some dungeons.
Charr Thief, level 80.
Happiness rating – 8.5/10
well, in sPvP, you’ll be put into random teams, so you won’t be able to party there.
However, in WvW, you can just go into the same party, queue and then meet each other when you’re both inside WvW.
Forums are not the place to get a true feel of the game.
Indeed it isn’t.
Take for example WoW. The game is obviously successful (many MMO’s would sacrifice people to Zhuul for 9million people throwing money at you each month), and many people obviously really enjoy the game. But my god, touch those forums and you can’t understand why there isn’t a lynch mob formed to get Greg Street (aka Ghostcrawler – a lead designer) for ruining their game. It’s crazy.
I agree with DusK, partly.
I do enjoy the zone (well, on my second pass through it on my alt i enjoyed it. The first time the zone was, for lack of better explanation, broken), it has beautiful scenery and it is a joy to play through. The skritt city where you help them bunker in, to defend themselves until things have ‘calmed down’ was enjoyable.
But i do agree with the OP on one point, the zone does lack a major story across the zone. There’s Norn’s in the north drinking, dredge in the centre north digging, krait attacking quaggan in the southeast, inquest messing with grawl in the east, the Pact attacking risen in the southwest and asura being…asura in the west. The place is a clash of different events, story’s and ideas, with nothing linking them together for a coherent storyline.
I’ve finally done Sorrow’s Embrace today with my brother, and i just have to add this to the list of ‘good things’: The last boss in Sorrow’s Embrace story mode, the fight is just awesome and extremely fun.
This is a small ‘good thing’, but it does kind of highlight the sheer detail that has gone into the game.
When you type /sleep, your character makes snoring/sleeping noises. I’ve never seen this in an mmo before (i guess i haven’t played enough), so it’s nice to see(hear?, w/e) things like this put into the game.
Ever heard a Charr /sleep? it’s adorable :P
Keep it up Anet, loving every moment of this game so far.
Darn, poster above me, beat me to it.
Yeah, i feel really bad when i take down Risen Quaggan.
Why Zhaitan!! you will pay for this!
I’m sorry, but i 100% disagree with the sentiment of this thread.
Downscaling has got to be the best feature in GW2, as it has always been my pet hate in any MMO, that once you get to max level, 90% of the game is useless to you and becomes underused by the entire community, it’s such a dreadful waste. But Gw2 has gotten rid of this for me, and i find it fantastic, especially now that i don’t feel constrained to what zone i can level in, or what zone i can farm DE’s in etc.
Besides, imagine how ruined the game will be, wehn you’re leveling a new character and some level 80 comes along and one shots every mob, forcing you to receive, either, no reward or most definitely a bronze.
Everytime i come to a new town/outpost w.e, i make it my business to get acquainted with every NPC’s dialogue there. First, they give good information on the general story of the zone, but they also give nice bits of info, like lore tidbits and rumours that can lead you to little dungeons where chests are, but, also because you can get some funny banter from people, and when you go around, talking to everyone in town, you do tend to run into all the NPC to NPC conversations as well.
I really think Anet needs commending on this, as it is such a great feature to put into the game, it does really add more life to the world.
P.S. if your in the Order of Whispers, you can get extra dialogue from random NPC’s.
Best idea ever it actually feels, at times, like you are apart of a web of agents.
I can just see the marketing now.
Screw the pandas. We have polar bears.
Polar bears kill things. They are far more threatening and cool :P
Funny enough, i find the music to be the weakest point of the game, in certian parts anyway. While some of the music is great, hardly any of it gets played at the appropriate times.
Example: the battle of fort Trinity.
This quest is supposed to be an epicly big battle, where you’re fighting back against Zhaitain and show the big bad dragon you mean business, and what music are you subjected to throughout the entire mission?
low humming noises…
EPIC!!!
Earth Elementals.
10sec cripple, wtf.
…
…
Can i have your stuff?
Screw the Kodan, i want to play as a Largos.
.. or a quaggan ofc.
I do like the people, simply saying ‘2deep4ubro’.
People do like to act pretentious over the internet don’t they?
The message of the trailer is so contrived and horribly portrayed. You could slap on a Pepsi logo at the end and it would still make sense. (getting rid of the five seconds of gameplay of course)
The part where the guys walks across hot coals, i still can’t help myself from laughing at the trailer though “oooh look! the guy is talking his first brave step into a new game! amagd deep!!”
Why GW2 is not going to be the next WoW
Stopped reading here tbh, as this pretty much sums up everything wrong with this thread, as well as explaining most reasons you probably didn’t like the game.
If you play a game, that tries it’s damnedest not to be WoW, like WoW…you’re gonna have a bad time.
The problem, as far a is can see, is that the game uses Nvidia’s FXAA (Fast approximate anti-aliasing) which is a terrible blurry mess, which even a lower form of MSAA is much better visually (as far i’m concerned anyway).
Any attempt to force any kind of other AA, through CCC, has been hindered by game crashes and black screens, so one can assume the game doesn’t like having AA forced upon it. So, i think, until they release new graphical options that allow us to get rid of FXAA for something better, it’s either turn it off and learnt to deal with jagged edges, or learn to live with the flickeriness(if that’s even a word) and blurr form FXAA :/
I’ve wrote, and deleted, about three long posts before making this one. Three long posts that really kept repeating the words ‘atmosphere’, ‘drama’, ‘excitement’ and ‘emotion’ over and over. Because that’s what i feel is a real issue in some portions of the personal story. Missions can ultimately feel void of any atmosphere(you see? they keep creeping up) by, really two main things:
- Extremely slow pacing of some parts of the story, parts of missions that call for lots of action and an energized environment, have you effectively walking around doing nothing for too much time. It’s really not good enough :/
-Music not matching the situation. I’ll try not to put in spoilers, but in one big battle at level 70 where you’re fighting alot of undead in a fort, you effectively have no music to try and up the tempo of the whole affair. The only thing you are subjected to is some low humming noise (exciting right?) which, while fine for the dramatic part of the very beginning of the mission, it’s a very bad choice for the rest of the mission, where there is supposed to be somekittenaction.
When you get right down to it, these are the biggest issues i have with the personal story, since i love the game overall and i love the story overall, it just lacks…emotion in parts where there is supposed to be emotion, and it lacks atmosphere and drama in parts when dramatic things are happening. It’s rather hard to explain, and if you have had that same…lack of feeling as i have experienced, then you might know what i am talking about. It’s a real shame, and the only thing from keeping me from falling in love with the personal story aspect of the game.
The pacing of these big missions really does need to be looked at in the future. You need to feel immersed into what’s happening and all the details like the lack of energizing music, and the slow pacing of the entire thing, partly due to the insane difficulty at times, and also other things, like you needing to do needless busy work during missions(do i really need to flip both switches before the gates close? is that extremely vital? am i the only person available or something, in a fort full of people?), just builds up to hamper, what could be, some seriously epic moments..but at the moment, it’s not there
…
IMO of course.
Right. So you assume that they were being “lazy” for making the zones squared off for you. Let me get this straight, take out the squared off and how do you divide each zones with the right zone transition triggers and such? I mean come on, you guys always have something to whine but at least for this kind of thing.. No offense but you just showed us that you are the kind who know only how to PLAY a game instead of ever MAKING one.
It’s not that they are surrounded by mountains, or each zone is an instance. It’s that every zone is the shape of a rectangle in some patchwork way of putting zones on the map. It makes the world feel less believable and less natural.
Again, it’s a very small complaint that hardly has any impact, it’s just a strange design choice.
The only reason i can think of them putting zones to the world like this, is that it makes it easier to add new zones in the future? like filling the world in, piece by piece like a jigsaw puzzle.
Guild wars 2, is not DAOC
Guild wars 2, will never be DAOC
some people are bloody glad it isn’t, and will never be, DAOC
Stop trying to turn this game into another game.
Half of the things you have suggested, go directly against Anet’s philosophy for the game, and will therefore, never be put into the game.
/thread
depends on the build really.
A venom share build, it has to be Thieve’s Guild.
For a condition/Bleed build, it has to be Dagger storm
For a normal venom build, without venom share, basilisk.
Yes, every zone is instanced off with mountains separating it because the other zones are impossible to walk to. It does take away from the visceralness
Just to make sure this point is made clear, since i don’t think some people get it.
It’s not disappointing and a bit lame, that all the areas are surrounded by mountains on all sides, that’s understandable. What’s pitiable is that, if you look at every zone, each one is shaped like a rectangle, in some patchwork way of putting the world together.
It’s just a bit odd, but like i’ve already said, it’s only VERY minor, but the complaint exists non the less.
Yes, this does irritate me as well, as it’s rather disappointing to see such lazy zone layout on the world map, and even though other MMO’s like FF11, had instanced zones with a heavy use of mountains to block off the edges, almost none of them were completely rectangular.
ahh well, it’s only a minor complaint really, it’s just a little disappointing.
Hello, not going to make this really long, i just thought it would be great, when searching for armour on the trading post through the filter box, a new box appeared where you can pick ‘medium, heavy or light’.
This would make shifting through loads of armour on the trading post, trying to find one’s relevant to you, much simpler.
Cheers.
Kind of an odd combo since, as far as i know, conditions themselves cannot crit, so a crit/condition build is a weird amalgamation.
You’d be better off trying for a crit/stealth build of some kind, or a full condition build by mostly by putting those 30 points in critical strikes, into deadly arts, and then spam LDB until your fingers go numb.
ANet seem intent on nickle and diming for almost everything. Trading post, and the fact that they intend to charge you for character slots and even to switch servers says enough.
Because all MMo’s with a sub fee, offer server transfers, race changes, faction changes, character slots (ever played FF11? you had to pay for every single character slot) etc, completely free?
uh huh, thought not.
Some people, insisting on spouting their nonsense :/
I feel rather annoyed at GW2, mostly because i have completely lost interest in paying for a Sub fee :/
And that is quite annoying, since because of this new found attitude, i may miss out on Elder scrolls online/MoP/Revamped FF14, three MMO’s that do look promising in their own way. But, i just can’t bring myself to justify a subscription fee any more, not after the sheer amount of content GW2 offers, for a box purchase and a very optional cash shop, those MMO’s just don’t seem worth it.
SPOILERS
If you choose to ally with the skritt after you save Demmi, then choose to steal the explosives from the centaurs, Tybalt talks a lot more about it and drops a lot of hints about him and his accident.
From the calculations i have seen, and to put it very bluntly:
Toughness is best for long sustained low damage, which doesn’t include conditions.
While vitality is best for soaking up burst damage and conditions.
Make of that what you will, but if you are trying to build a defensive survivor build, it will always be best to have lots of toughness and vitality, not just only pumping all your stats into one.
For some reason, when i have depth blur effect checked in the options, instead of it only blurring distant objects and environment, it’s instead blurring everything, even NPC’s within a metre of me.
Here are two links to two pictures, one with depth blurring enabled, and one without:
Depth Blur on
Depth blur off
These NPC’s standing right infront of me are incredibly blurred.
As it stands, i can’t have depth blur enabled when it messes with the games graphics in such a way, i’m pretty sure this isn’t how depth blur is supposed to work either.
Just for information, I’m running the game on:
GPU – AMD Radeon 6870
CPU – I5 – 3570k
OS – Windows 7, 64bit
There is no formal ‘healing’ class in GW2. Instead, all classes are given a special tab on their screen for a self healing ability (some classes can have aoe type heals that heal more than themselves however). Also, water attuned elementalist do have very good support type healing moves, but that isn’t a healing class either, healing still mostly comes down to you personally looking after yourself.
did you really check the tech suuport forums?
because there is a thread on how to configure AVG firewall…
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Configuring-AVG
perhaps searching more thoroughly before taking a pop at Anet and getting angry, will get you better results in future :/
Realm – Gunnar’s Hold (EU)
Zone – Iron Marches
The DE, linked with the meta event ‘Devouring the Brand’, where you escort the two guys across the lake has been stuck in stasis for the past few days now, preventing the entire Meta-event form continuing.
One of the NPC’s doesn’t even seem to be with the group that is travelling across the lake, and the other NPC is just stood completely still in the middle of the lake, doing absolutely nothing.
Please fix this, as it is incredibly depressing when you run into events that are bugged, it really limits the enjoyment you get out of the game, when you can’t even play the big zone events :/
