Gemstore items is your best bet. Either the three minis, which are likely to be replaced, or the lovestruck weapons (as tormented skins are bound to crash, too expensive for too long, it’s been an unhealthy cycle thus far).

Why are you continuing to spend time to report on your bad loot rate?

Anet has appeared only once in this thread, with a level of disrespect that many players have already successfully commented on. The very title of this thread should give you a hint as well. Anyway, what did Anet say when, finally, it came with its “response”? Well. We looked at it, it’s in your head, case referred to the X-files, and we’ll continue to monitor the situation. By its response, Anet has shown that it does not look at anyone’s individual case reported on this forum regarding troubling droprates. Despite the fact that this reporting was extensive, and was done at Anet’s request. If it had looked at these individual cases, the problem would have been fixed by now, wouldn’t it? Or perhaps, even acknowledged?

TL;DR There is only one possible conclusion. The drop rate of open world PvE was nerfed heavily, and intentionally so. Anet only steps in if you report that the loot rate goes up. See the quick patch of 29 January: you reported good loot? Boom, “fixed” within a day to the same, horrible droprates.

You should also have learned by now that communication regarding droprates is a one way street. They are “announcements” to players, nothing more. There is no dialogue.

To clarify the point made above: even if you had received a weapon ticket it would have been a scam. I have 3 fused skins from 80 boxes; while it’s way better results than others, it remains just that. A scam. It incites gambling and exploits weakness. The problem is the company expects people like myself to say “the odds are fine, I received 3 skins!” But we’re all starting to realize now that this way of doing business is very, very shady, and should be put to a halt.

Killing 190,000 skritt won’t solve the inherent design problem, but it may help depending on how many people pick this up.

I doubt though that zergs will kill skritt rather than defend their keep or attack that of their opponent during a WvW season that rewards winners. So, more likely, it will attract farmers that take up a valuable spot on full WvW servers. Personally speaking, when I WvW, I want to help my server (gold league, currently 2nd place) win.

That is still a WvW oriented reward. The purpose is to make badges of honor useful for other types of gameplay.

PvE? Get a legendary useable in all game types! Run dungeons all day and – using dungeon tokens – salvage rares or forge a precursor.

PvP? Get an awesome dragon/shark/phoenix finisher to kill your foes in any of the three game types! Kill people all day and you will get these.

WvW? Buy a server transfer to the winning server to possibly get a nice looking weapon skin if you’re lucky! Earn badges to reduce the cost of things you no longer need for any of the other game types!

I know what you mean, there was an extra “Umpfh” to it in GW1. The stories were deeper, and characters were built out a bit further.

On the other hand, I must say I liked Tybalt a lot as well. Tybalt was awesome. However, it would have been nice to see more of him, do quests with him and do some crazy stuff from time to time.

I’m currently liking Sieran a lot as well, she’s really likeable, very nice voice acting and script, too. I very much enjoy the condecsending tone in which Gixx talks to her. It’s very, very funny (he constantly insults her: “you blasted weed”, “you leaf-addled reprobate”, “you whomp-leaved lunatic”, “you pernicious petal-brain”). My mesmer is level 40 now (although I’m in the lvl 50 step now), I really hope Sieran doesn’t die at some point. She’s awesome. Nice way to level up while my legendary ranger is parked for the moment (which shouldn’t be a surprise after the recent gutting).

GW2 Asia, economy?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Buttercup.5871

It will be quite a challenge. If linked to the global TP, there will be massive market manipulation. If they don’t link, people will open Asian accounts and, with their intricate knowlege of trading and every part of the game, will get insanely rich in no time. The precursor market in China will be an even larger mess than here, even if they decide to adjust the droprate in China by 1000 percent (in which case manipulation will simply shift to t6 mats and lodestones etc). I think the manipulation will actually be more controllable if they link China to the global TP straight away.

Buttercup.5871

@ Verdelet: you are showing us achievements that can be managed by investing time in a character, nothing more, nothing less. You have lost 2 out of 3 tournaments you played, and lost 1 out of 2 tPvP matches you played. Now, to be entirely clear, I’m not saying you are not playing your ranger correctly, or that I would have done a better job. I’m saying these screenshots only show you’ve played your ranger a lot, and that your contribution may not have benefited the teams you joined to the extent that you appear to be advocating.

More particularly, your screenshots do not address the issue that Jon Peters promised said would be fixed: (i) shouts and signets being “subpar” and “lackluster”, (ii) trait lines which lack viable choices, and (iii) skills that are too specialized to complement a weapon build. All of these are Jon’s words. If a dev states this, not recently but 5 months ago, this means there is a BIG problem. There is no point in talking this right. And not because I said it, but because the developer himself has said these are problems deeply rooted in the ranger class.

But congratz on those 2 legendaries!

Lock box gambling is unethical

in Black Lion Trading Co

Buttercup.5871

Some people in this thread are simply rehashing what they said in other threads… without reading the point of the OP.

The OP is not discussing the legality of this business concept, but challenging it’s morality. I, for one, strongly agree with the OP. These lockboxes incite gambling and exploit weakness. And don’t get me started on the legal definition of gambling; I purposefully won’t elaborate on this in this thread – because it is irrelevant to it.

I’d like to add when Anet said they would provide an alternative, namely, lockboxes as drops from monsters – that their attempt was not genuine. I have, just for the sake of seeing whether this alternative was genuine, farmed for five hours or so spread over 3 evenings to see whether any box would drop. None have dropped thus far. Yes I had magic find, and yes mobs drop like flies because i know what i’m doing. And no, that shouldn’t even matter, at least 1 box should have dropped during that time. The “alternative” offered is, therefore, not genuine. Moreover, you get hit with DR pretty quickly so the whole concept is self defeating.

Another observation: people always think that anyone who posts about the immorality of this concept got “burned”, like the first poster said. I have 3 fused skins, foostivoo, you name it, I have it all. I was always “lucky”. Does that matter for this discussion? Not one bit.

Ya’all missed the point of this update. It’s all green-ish.

If you want to show off your new special goodies from TA or Tequatl, you’ll surely want them to match the color of your armor. Mmmmm.

What a coincidence! You can now buy those in the gemstore! You’ll receive a[n unspecified]* chance to receive 1 of the 6 new green dyes from a loot table containing 25 dyes!

  • PSA: the fact that the loot table contains 25 dyes, of which 6 are “special”, does not mean your chance is 6 in 25 to receive a special dye. It only means the loot table contains 25 dyes. It could well be that one of the six “special dyes” is set to drop 25% of the time, whereas the other five “special dyes” are set to drop 2% of the time.

Stop it with the monetary value already. Recent case law points out that virtual items can indeed represent monetary value, and that you can have ownership over said items, even if Anet has ultimate ownership (the supreme court in the netherlands used the example of a passport, which, strictly speaking, is owned by the state; yet you can excersise ownership over it, it can be stolen and does represent value).

Is it gambling? Yes. Does it meet the minimum threshold for gambling? Depends on the country. The problem is that no country will enforce it even if it does meet the threshold. If Anet continues on this path, however, I could see people going to court with this on a no cure no pay basis.

My main gripe with this business concept is that it is morally corrupt as kitten. It exploits weakness and incites gambling.

Change in loot parameters or a bug? [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Buttercup.5871

Did you attempt this right after server sestart? Because i swear, i have started noticing that right after a server restart i “always” get a ton of rares in cursed shore, just like the pre november 15th patch. After an hour or 2, its back to normal.

I think you’re on to part of the cause of the problem.

The extremely reduced drop rate started for me after the lost shores patch. Let me start by saying that before that patch, I had 3 to 5 gold drops per hour. Consistently and without exception, every day. Now, I’m at an average of 1 gold drop per 2 hours.

Here’s what I observed. If ever you decide not to play for a few days, you’ll see a lot of drops in the first hour or so. After that, it’s back to normal.

After a server restart, boom, in the first hour or so, loot. Then, nothing again.

After you enter a new group: boom, loot! This makes me believe the loot chances of the other players are shared with you. After an hour or so, not so much again, but still not as bad as playing alone. And that is probably because not all players are affected by this problem. Thanks to them, you still have a chance of getting some drops, although not as many. It’s also the reason why, in some groups, there’s simply no loot for anyone after an hour; the group doesn’t include one of the “lucky ones” that is not affected by this problem. When you find yourself in such an “unlucky” group, just leave, and make a new group with different people. Suddenly, you will have loot again.

This whole group scenario thing became blatantly obvious to me when I was in a group of 4 people, with one guy consistently linking golds and exotics that he received from the same mobs we were killing. Mind you, his weapons and gear were crap. The others in the group, including me, were amazed, as they did not get this amount of loot, and their gear was a lot better as well. We all had better stats than the lucky guy, and more magic find. Our loot ratio was crap compared to his, but still much better than when we were alone, so we stayed with “the lucky guy”. When that guy left, suddenly noone received loot anymore, including myself. It was gray junk, a blue here and there – at best – but most mobs simply dropped nothing. Naturally, the group fell apart within 15 minutes.

My theory is that if you play the game for a few hours straight, you are kittened when it comes to drops. The DR is ruthless. The only exotic drops I ever had came after either a server restart, a group restart, or when logging in after not having played the game for days. Going to different regions doesn’t change a thing. Only one single event (which you only reach after completing a chain of other events) still gives consistent drops for me in Orr, the rest is borked. When that event is up, I’m there; I’ll solo it if I have to, even though that’s neigh impossible.

Some players are NOT affected by this, as I stated above, and as others have remarked in this thread. Those people not affected may count themselves very lucky, because I know there is a very large group out there like me. They are on map chat all the time, if you pay some attention to that stuff. They’ve been on this forum, in several threads, ever since the lost shores patch. Something went very, very wrong after the Lost Shores patch.

Teach me the ways of the Flip

in Black Lion Trading Co

Buttercup.5871

The way of the flip. Mmm. There is such a way.

When you play new content, you will see that temporarily, a lot of items X, Y and Z are generated with that new content. You know that most likely, this will not continue and supply will drop and prices will rise afterwards. Take for example the back skins from the gauntlet content. All the catcher and rose skins, zephyr backpack and even the lyssa recipes doubled in price within 2 weeks.

Another example. When you see the black lion company do something, think about what it will mean for TP prices. If people buy more keys – because they are on sale – what will that do? Minis from black lion chests plummeting? Check. Mystery tonics plummeting? Check. By looking at gw2tp.com you will see that this always happens during a key sale, but that after the key sale the prices recover.

In other words: buy low, sell high. And realize by playing content what it does for TP prices, and anticipate. It’s really not that hard.

I recommend that OP take a class in statistics and read about gambling and chance before getting much older. It will be a supreme help to him to learn about these things.

You’re wrong. Again, it’s technically possible to never get a pre from the mystic forge, but highly unlikely after 1100 attempts.
My beef is: Why me? Why is my account condemned?

Not just you mate. Try tossing in 2k rares and exotic greatswords and getting nothing.

It’s been explained to me that this is not solely in the realm of statistics though; it’s also tied to an engine that is unable to run “true” RNG. It’s quite difficult to learn a machine how to create true chaos, you need a lot of horsepower for that. So we’ve got a “simulated” or pseudo RNG, still very complex, which factors in certain unique properties affecting the outcome of RNG rolls. Such as, for example, the time of your forge attempt.

I commend Anet on this system, which is very labor intensive. I prefer it above any other “bringing new content” system I’ve seen in all other MMO’s I’ve played. It’s innovative and it keeps the game interesting. The only thing I fear is the extent at which Anet will let the RNG elements dominate this content. If they get that balance right (as well as class balance), it will be good indeed.

Just wanted to give a quick update on this topic. We’ve completed verifying every update from the november release, and there were zero changes to anything what so ever that would have negatively affected loot in any way/shape/form. We can officially confirm this as an X-files level conspiracy at this point.

We’re in the midst of evaluating every loot table in the game and running massive random roll evaluations table by table, as well as evaluating every system game wide that causes a player to qualify for items to determine if any issues exist in those systems from launch.

Will update again when we have another round of concrete information.

A couple of things.

Let’s start at the start. More than two months ago, a thread was started, and all threads that resembled the topic were merged into it:

It’s a thread in which hundreds of players provided 26 pages of data. The thread got closed, and players were requested by your staff, to again report on the loot they received. Some of these players have done this very elaborately, at your request, and on multiple occasions. They took the time to do it right, because you asked them to do it.

So again, hundreds of players reported to you, this time at your request. Just on the first three pages of this thread, these players were:

Is this issue really an oversight? Or is it a case of players who really want the item, but also want a shortcut to their goals?

Ehm, Smooth, whatta you mean, shortcut. You can’t acquire the friggin item through normal endgame gameplay.

Look, let’s compare this to the crazy charged lodestone. Which you need for crafting Sunrise, the Meteorologicus, five foefire weapons (including foefire’s essence), Mjolnir, Infinite Light and Wings of Dwayna. And more. Pretty much all the cool looking items, really.

Now. Here’s the creepy part. Let’s take a legendary, one of the most popular in the game – Sunrise – that uses charged lodestones. Mind you, this is a weapon which most classes in the game can use (unlike a hammer). Now, you’d be coming out two times cheaper using a charged lodestone recipe than this silver doubloon recipe. You need 250 silver doubloons, which are now nearing 2g each. That’s 500g right there for just the silver doubloons.

Shortcut… my kitten shortcut. That’s a game design oversight/bug.

Halloween math - trick or treat!

Halloween items 2013:

1. Mini: 20 thousand candy corn
2. Bag: 15 thousand candy corn
3. Recipes 1: 10 thousand candy corn, 10 thousand rare Halloween materials, 10g in elonian wine, and t6 dust.
4. Recipes 2: 10 thousand candy corn, 10 thousand rare Halloween materials, 10g in elonian wine, and t6 dust.
5. Recipes 3: 10 thousand candy corn, 10 thousand rare Halloween materials, 10g in elonian wine, and t6 dust.
———————————

Let’s assume the following

- Let’s say you spend every single evening throughout the whole Halloween event playing Halloween content only, three hours per evening for 27 days straight.
- Let’s say you manage to get one thousand candy corn per evening (which includes opening any trick-or-treat bag you get).
- Let’s say you manage to get 100 rare materials Halloween materials per evening (which includes opening any trick-or-treat bag you get).

By the end, you would end up with 27 thousand candy corn, 2700 rare Halloween materials (and other drops – which I’ll include in my calculations).

You can now get the following

At the end of Halloween, spending every evening playing Halloween content, you can either buy:

- a mini and a bag. You need to sell all non-essential drops to make this happen; or
- one of the three recipes. You need to sell all non-essential drops to make this happen.

If you decide to go with the recipe, you’ll need another two thousand candy corn, 120 lodestones, 270 orichalcum ingots, 40 globs of ecto and a legendary gift to get the final weapon skin [which, incidentally, dropped like rain last year without there being any crafting involved].

Trick or treat!

“We don’t make grindy games — we leave the grind to other MMOs.”

Your opinion

Whether you agree or disagree, please leave your opinion here on what you think of the above. My hope is that next year, we will see the spirit of Halloween restored in its former glory. Note that “Join the champion train in Frostgorge Sound” or “Play the TP” instead of playing Halloween content – in order to get Halloween items – defeats, in my view, the very purpose and spirit of Halloween.

@video, did you check John’s statement on things being acquired in several ways, etc. and actually think about what he meant by it? Whenever you see that, think “the forge.”

Shredded rags salvage into about 2 jute scraps. Jute can be upgraded into wool, one bolt of which is currently around 7 silver. Every price on the TP has a reason. People don’t push for high prices if there is no demand to match it (bolts of damask requiring bolts of wool). Every price is part of a circular system that is driven by demand. Which brings me to your statement about silver doubloons believing the price of that item being “OK”. I’m sorry but I can’t align that thought with your other statements. At all.

In your system, people would sell rags for low prices not knowing that they have a lot more value than they know. It allows for people to be used, ripped off, simply because they don’t know about the forge upgrade system. No, no I really don’t like that prospect at all.

The problem is, the person responding had no clue what he/she was talking about. I’ll break the response down for you

Only newly obtained skins…

The weapon skins on the TP are not “newly obtained”. They came from tickets rotting in a someone’s bank. They are no different than a skin rotting in someone’s bank.

… in select sets are tradable.

This is incorrect. It’s not “select sets”. It’s all sets. Sclerite, fused, jade, winter’s. This gave away Josh was used as a fall guy, he really didn’t know what he was talking about. He just communicated what someone emailed him.

In the past, we intended those skins to be account-bound and not tradable. After the change, these skins will remain account-bound and not tradable.

If that was indeed their intention, to keep fused/sclerite/jade/winter’s skins account bound, why are these skins on the TP in the first place? This message contradicts itself, and makes no sense to anyone reading it. It’s a cheap way of not fixing a clear mistake.

If precursors do get ninja-introduced

When precursor crafting get introduced there will be nothing ninja about it. A ninja moves fast, and comes suddenly when you don’t expect it. This is more like a massive steam-engine freight train with giant bells on it that is roaring its way across every part of this forum, stopping in every thread before it finally enters the Tyria’s Central Station, where a crowd has been holding giant WELCOME signs for so long they’ve become local weight-lifting champions.

Settler's Accessories. Need Staff answer.

I asked this question as well (but received no answer). Finally, I found the info in the “community news” section:

“In addition to the rewards from boss fights, all creatures in Southsun Cove will have a chance to drop these new rewards from May 28 through June 11:

Mini Reef Rider
Settler’s Amulet, Keepsake, and Ring"

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/community-news/a-guide-to-last-stand-at-southsun-cove/

In other words, these accessories no longer drop after 11 June.

Gold seller boasting about precursors

@Gaborkaldy: Nothing pushes a player anywhere. I don’t have a precursor, but I don’t feel “forced” to buy one either. Instead, I’m having loads of fun with Volcanus which I crafted the other day, while waiting for the scavenger hunt to start. I didn’t feel forced to craft Volcanus either, even though I spent a lot of time to get it.

As long as people have the notion that “hard to get items” give them status, there will be gold sellers to fulfill their needs. This is, however, not a reason to increase the droprate of precursors. Because if precursors drop like rain, people will just turn to goldsellers to get their gift of magic. They’ll say “we had to turn to goldsellers, because with all the precursors available, the t6 market suddenly exploded and Anet did nothing to increase the t6 droprate”, or something similar.

The fact that the precursor droprate is insanely low is a reason to increase the droprate, nothing else. These issues should not be confused.

Looks like you and the other player are trying to circumvent the gold/gems and gems/gold ratio, which I think should be allowed.
I see it similar to circumventing the TP tax by mail-trading. Risky, as there is no support if it goes wrong, but allowed.

Add Karma tax to buy orders?

This is the worst idea proposal I have ever heard for this game.

If I were an actual citizen of Tyria and you got anywhere near implementing this, I would raise an insurrection and there would be war.

A constraint on the ability of anyone to engage in commerce is distortion of the market. You will have fewer people participating which will mean shortages which actually makes the market easier for fewer people to control.

I don’t care if you’re a trader or a flipper or whatever – this is a horrible idea and it will only help power traders and hurt casual TP users.

Did you even read his proposal or the elaborate explanations he has given on many complex questions? If you provide no basis for your assumptions (shortages + fewer people participating as a result of a white karma tax) they can simply be ignored. I’m not saying that to be rude, but perhaps you don’t see you’re shooting yourself in the foot by not providing a more careful analysis for your very broad assumptions.

Sickening market manipulators

Some of these changes indeed were affected by bot bans, but some have nothing to bot bans, but are purely a result of market manipulation.

A much more disconcerting manipulation that is going on right now is the pushing up of the price on crystalline dust. This mat is used for anything and everything by everyone on a daily basis. Went up in price by 300 per cent over the last 3 weeks, with constant manipulation and pushing upwards. The so blatantly obvious pushing is well reflected in the buy orders. You’ll see buy orders that are not 1, 2 or 10 copper over the last bidder, but sometimes 50 copper. And not 1 unit ordered, not 10, not even 100 but 2500. This is a very easy and guaranteed tactic to have people overbid you. Once that happens, and the price stagnates at a higher level, the price is pushed even further up using the same tactic. It’s constantly being pushed up, with large gaps in the buy order prices which shows you it’s completely artificial. On the buy end, they’ll just buy up units until the price reaches a certain price level range, namely, the level that they want it to be. Also, manipulation has been made much easier now that the triforge amulet can be upgrade to ascended, which means everybody and their mother wants one (750 crystalline dust per amulet).

The t6 mats manipulation are peanuts compared to what’s going on with crystalline dust market.

It’s a real shame; I thought GW2 would be the MMO to really push being progressive on the gender front.

Wait. Waiiiiiiiiiit right there. What? You have to elaborate here because if any company did everything right in this respect, it’s Anet. The only other company that is on the forefront on this issue is Bioware. Anyway, you cannot blurt out such sweeping statements and not back them up.
