Analysis on Desert Borderlands' unpopularity

1) We have a triple whammy hitting our small groups:

  • proliferation of t3 gates,
  • the removal of supply-cheap catapults (i.e. guild catapults which used to cost 25 supply) AND
  • no more +5 supply at camps

2) Then we have CLAIMING which has been delayed due to The Great Paywall of Guild Halls. This will make it very unlikely that small guilds ever get to claim anything – it’s big guilds or go home in WvW.

At the time of writing, I’ve yet to see an active Tactivator, weeks after the release of the game and despite guilds rushing to upgrade their halls in order to have access to them.

3) I think there are problems with the automatic upgrades – perhaps these should happen more slowly. I suspect that my opinion on this would change if there were more people on the maps.

4) The mobs in the Skysplitter event annoy me greatly because despite being about average to take down they have a long charge, knockdowns and are tricksy to fight because WvW players are traditionally in tanky PVT gear. I think this event needs looking at by the QA people – I know it’s meant to be just a thing to make people get into an open field fight, but on it’s own and without enemies it’s not fun enough.

In summary, it’s NOT a problem with the maps. In my opinion the maps are fine.

Hmm no review of Speed of shadows?

I would have liked to have seen this posted, too. This was huge for my build.

Most boring race

If you want lore, play Guild Wars 1.

GW2 lore is sparse and weak and refers to GW1 all the time, so players who didn’t play the first game don’t engage with what lore there is in the second game.

Lore wise, here is my opinion on the backgrounds (which is basically all Guild Wars 1 story, I think):
The story about humans being pushed back into one city is good.
The story about the sylvari treemother and the tablet guy is good.
The story about asura being forced to the surface world is good.
The story about charrs is forgetable. What was that about? They are disgraced because they are the race that prevents us having cool-looking equipment and clothes.

And the Norn weren’t even worth mentioning ;-)

Who?

The State of Siegeplay is Embarrassing

the best defense is to wait inside until the wall falls and then attempt to fight in the lord’s room or some other choke—attempting to keep the wall up is just a waste of supply. If you happen to be outnumbered in that engagement, you can buy a bit of time with suicide disables but otherwise are at the mercy of wherever your group is.

What is your assumption regarding the number of defenders?

I think we have to recognise that there are two types of attackers;

  1. the mighty zerg/guildgroup – You will need something similar to take it out, no matter what siege you have. One or two defenders can’t stop this.
  2. the soloer/small group – This is easy counter with just one or two defenders. Current defensive siege is perfect for preventing attacks by upto… [10ish?] players.

I think the main factor here is supply. If an attacking force can bung down enough point-blank catapults, a single defender on an AC isn’t going to have enough time to destroy them. This may seem like a very specific situation, but make no mistake, this (in my experience) is how the vast majority of WvW objective encounters happen.

I get the impression that a lot of people who say it’s difficult to defend an objective don’t factor in that it’s one guy vs 20+ much of the time. The one guy should get obliterated, although perhaps not that easily whilst he has a wall to stand on.

My opinion is;

  • Superior ACs are fine, except the camera isn’t predictable – you never know if you will be able to see what you want to hit until the AC is built. Vanilla AC is in a bad place tho.
  • Catapults shouldn’t do damage at point blank, or damage themselves with debris from wall or something. Vanilla could do to be slightly cheaper to make it viable.
  • Trebs are fine. The water field mastery seems too awkward to use effectively.
  • Ballistas – could do with a free-aim option. Otherwise they seem fine.
  • Alpha Golems are fine-ish. They should (imo) do more damage than Omega at point-blank, making them an feasible option (to point-blank as opposed to range) rather than a poor man’s Omega.
  • Omega golems are very fine. They need to remain expensive, no more duping. They also need to have the colour of the team they represent instead of always having blue lights.
  • Guild siege is beautiful, we need to see these amazing models more often, please! I don’t know what I’m asking for here, I just love the models. Models on the vanilla siege are largely prettier than the models on superior, but I’m happy that there is a difference in models. Thanks for this.

What is ONE change you'd make to your class?

Guardian – Let us move while using No. 3 on sword. It’s always been a clunky skill that is just kind of weird. Thus for the same reason Arenanet changed Warriors’ Staggering blow, it sword #3 should be changed.

It needs a Quality of Life change! (Obviously, this would require animation alteration on the floating Asura version, which is the reason I think it’s not been done yet).

My #1 issue?

  1. WvW team is way too small, out-of-touch and don’t LOVE their designated game-mode.

For the developers to stop saying “The Guardian is in a good spot”, and get out of that framework of thinking when it comes to Guardians.

I have played off and on since launch and now coming back I have a lot of time to play. The thing is I love pvp in mmos and this game kills me. I play a necro but looking to switch ( cause apperently i can play this class.). I jump in spvp and just get destroyed without being able to touch people at all. im using good build from metabattle and ones i know and i know my class. but icant kill anyone and i die instantly . What do i need to do to get better or understand this games pvp.

You are not alone.

GW2 PvP is terrible. It’s;

  • too quick, and
  • difficult to analyse what opponents are doing, and
  • you have to watch the debuff bar constantly
  • Add to this the fact that you need to know what EVERY class does and
  • the fact that your class CAN’T counter many of the classes
… and you have the recipe for an awful, anti-fun combat system.

There’s a massive learning curve and no time to climb it before you are beaten by better, more accomplished players on more complicated, “piano-player”, classes.

Jon Peters is to blame. #boycottAmazonGames

u die instantly coz 95% of the ppl focus necros.. so how about u change class? :P

Perhaps Anet should just remove this sack of kittens class and be done with it?

New Scoring Change - 21st Nov 2016

in WvW

Posted by: Svarty.8019

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-November-21-2016

Upgraded objectives now reward more war score per tick and when captured.
Points per Tick/Capture:
Objective Base Points Secured Reinforced Fortified
Camp 2 3 4 5
Castle 12 18 24 30
Keep 8 12 16 20
Tower 4 6 8 10
Sentries and shrines now grant 2 war score on capture.

Does anybody here see the logic in this?
I don’t see how this improves WvW at all. How, for example, does this tweak make weaker sides more competitive (in PPT terms, ofc)?

The megaserver has failed us.
1 map gets to do the event and hundreds of people stand alone trying to taxi into it.

BORING.
