I won’t lie. My inspiration for this topic is that I want the legendary Kraitkin as a staff.
SO, as you may have guessed, the idea is to recycle some of the old tridents to be used as staves. This is not a new idea, Arenanet, you did it yourselves with some of the existing sets.
Another reason for requesting this is that some tridents look WAY better than the spears in the same set. For example:
- The new Hero’s Trident: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Hero%27s_Trident.jpg
… would make a much nicer staff than - The new Hero’s Staff:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hero%27s_Staff
Then there’s Kraitkin. A majestic work of art that is doomed to be completely forgotten for the simple reasons that
- you can’t see as well underwater
- not much of the game is set underwater
- under water is not a very sociable place to hang out

So please, if not for me, for the trident artists in your squad! Make staff skins from the great old tridents!
The short answer is because you have to take the risk of attacking otherwise it wouldn’t be an interesting interaction.
If you want to discuss a mechanic that’s fine but I humbly suggest not assuming you know so much about design that you can lecture professional designers about something. It’s poor form.
I disagree. If we look at the defensive fortifications of real life, e.g. an arrow slit or boiling oil (where it can’t be shot from outside) the whole point is to give the defender an advantage. The OP points out that the opposite is true in GW2. Most of the time people avoid manning cannons and oil because they are so easily attacked.
Arenanet have more or less acknowledged that this is an issue in their implementation of the mastery system. Sadly, these masteries don’t go nearly far enough to remedy the situation and the devs seem to have forgotten about the system entirely.
I think people will slowly come to understand that this change is GREAT for weaker servers, and evens matches up a bit.
My simple question to ANET, why are you trying to create a grindfest in a game that simply does not need one?
Non-Grind Repeatable Content is the holy grail of gaming development. Parts of GW2 that fit into this:
- WvW
- PvP
- Fracdulls (with their increasing difficulty)
- New competitive league-table adventures, or whatever that stuff is (still not sure)
All of these things are being given a fresh lick of paint in HoT.
So Anet are addressing grind concerns, I think it’s wrong to suggest otherwise.
And again Arena net had screwed Dragonbrand. 5v1. What are the devs thinking.
Welcome to YB’s world.
Six versus one for months culminating in a Tier 1 to Tier 4 fall which will happen again and again and again to other servers until this garbage is fixed.
Don’t hold your breath.
This is what people don’t understand. With linking, there is no ladder. There are only “Good Matches”.
Rifle Thief: how does it make you feel?
Bored. I see two scenarios;
- It’s even more OP than regular thief or,
- nobody will play it
I’m looking forward to being one-shotted by invisible guys. Fun2017.
We need to be nice to our PvE brethren and embrace them, teach them, help them. They are the population that some servers lack.
There is an opportunity here to get lots of people into WvW, and show them that it’s not just a case of following a blue tag in a circular karma-train and/or getting battered by a spawn-camping server in EB. It’s up to us to show them that WvW is about all the other friends you meet and help and fight beside and …er… rez and then tease.
Invite these people into teamspeak and remember your manners (if you can – we all know that WvW can be extremely frustrating at times).
-Nothing major till feb patch.
I hope they realise that February is make-or-break for vast swathes of the WvW community.
No.
The game crashes all the time in big battles. I thought Arenanet would get that information in the form of “metrics”?
Nothing is safe. We’re at the mercy of monkeys pulling the balance levers.
Having said that, if you have Celestial, you will always have a bit of everything – regardless of what our merciless overlords nerf.

Again, a mechanic rendered completely useless in PVE because almost every single boss in the game has Defiant/Unshakeable.
I get mocked as being grumpy by my guildmates when I point out this enormous design flaw (in fairness it dates way back in the history of MMOs). My point still stands, though:
What’s the point in giving players abilities when the boss mobs just ignore them?
(edited by Svarty.8019)
Well, it’s Friday. I’ll give this a bump for a happy weekend to everybody!
Now I have to put something on topic in my post or it’ll get reported:
SO..
I agree with the original poster on many of their points.
I enjoyed playing with the Quaggan pearls, but I really like the ruins in the middle of the map and think the ruins are an improvement.
Regarding the 3rd floor of smc – I have some sympathy with the OP, but I think the spoils of war are the ability to treb your towers. This ability “forces” your side to take action, but it doesn’t mean they can roll over your keep. That’s why EB is such a good design.
Disclaimer: everything in this post is my opinion – this should be everybody’s signature, I mean… What’s wrong with stating opinion as fact? That’s what makes us human.
The Employee of the Month competition is already over!
jpnova.4572Where is GS Necro now?
GS Necro is lying on the floor, taking a kicking from all the other classes. Still.
That’s funny, mine’s a GS/Staff chill/condimancer, and I’m soloing champs all day. Kicking out 3~4k crits in AA, while dishing out 14~16k condi damage to boot.
I, too, wipe the floor with NPCs.
… so does every other class.
It makes players feel like they’re getting something when really it’s just some bits of blue and green rubbish.
Two unrelated bugs.
1) The asura summon 7-series racial elite is hitting upwards of 40k damage on players and 20k damage on paper gates.
That’s not a bug. It’s an improvement. This reflects true Asura superiority as the LORE dictates!
Working as intended, cry more noob etc.
What a peculiar situation.
The Legendaries aren’t done six months after HoT.
I wonder what the deal is here. Are the models done, or is it taking ages to set up all the quests to acquire them? Either way, it seems there’s too much effort going in – judging by the SXSW panel, the developers spend FAR too much time thinking. Just my humble opinion. I like that they are pouring love into their work, I just think the balance is off.
My opinion is…
Nobody at Anet loves WvW like we do. We have no champion there. It’s sad, but I gt the impression we’re in some kind of papered-over maintenance mode. That’s why I believe nothing significant, such as the sentries, will change despite the “Golem Rush”.

I’ve been reading a lot of topics and foruns about MF on GW2, and it looks like MF is not worth it at all, i mean, a gear only for MF. I already have a gear for PvE and dungeons, my main gear, and i was thinking in doing a gear only for MF, but all i’ve read till now just convinced me to not spend money and time on a MF gear.
So, is MF really works in this game? I know that MF only works on mobs.
There is a hidden luck stat on each character which matters much more than MF.
First of all 10 seconds isn’t really spamming,
I’d argue that it is.
secondly you can always dodge the earthshaker it’s way too easy to dodge.
That’s not necessarily true, either.
Add
- Towering towers – new upgrades to towers that make them taller (give them +siege range, particularly necessary at [colour_name ] Lake Tower on borderlands, as trebs can’t hit Hills) for each tier of upgrade.
Remove
- Incentive to zerg

Heavy Supply Bags are required item in Guild Hall upgrades (it says 50 – Scribing: Minor Supply Drop).
Here is the Wiki for Heavy Supply Bag: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Heavy_Supply_Bag
It states the (now inaccessible) Alpine WvW map as the only source of heavy supply bags.
Here is GW2 Spidy graph showing volatility (see the small graph at the bottom) – it indicates that there are no bags selling since the map was unavailable, in addition to an escalation in price way beyond anything reasonable.
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/9285
TL;DR Please can we have a way to acquire these now inaccessible, yet necessary, items?

They seem to be in maintenance mode now, not changing much for fear of breaking the game, and hoping the playerbase doesn’t quit before the xpac.
“Be the change you want to see”
Advice to budding developers (because Anet’s won’t learn): NEVER put stealth classes in a mulitplayer game.
So tarnished is the reputation of these so-called “Legendary” weapons, that they just don’t mean anything.
I believe that once the system is fixed (read: IT IS BROKEN NOW), Arenanet should spend some time creating new Legendaries that might actually garner the admiration of other players, rather than apathy and despondency.
(edited by Svarty.8019)
I suggest Arenanet implement a tumbleweed minipet for WvW players.
I think it would be ironic, apt and hilarious.
While I appreciate and thank you for working on fixing this encounter, the fixes you describe don’t encourage me enough to risk another 12 hour run.
Guess they didn’t wanted us to buy the new xpac. We need a BUFF rather than a nerf. But then again, I expected nothing from Anet.
No! No! You HAVE to play scourge because old classes are weak (now)!
I can’t keep my head up, I have to watch the conditions bar!
Those frogs in the beta footage have very big eyes…
I’d like to thank the developers for being open-minded enough to give this a whirl. Thanks.
Changing the final rewards won’t do it, you need a dynamic system which incentivises the two losing sides to attack whoever is leading at any given time.
(edited by Svarty.8019)
I agree with the OP. This should encourage people to explore more.
No thanks. Let smaller guilds have their place.
A few suggestions
- CDI acknowledged suggestion #1 – Implement an incentive to attack whichever server has highest score (at any given time)
- CDI acknowledged suggestion #2 – Spread the cost of building things across all owned structures, so the more you own, the weaker each individual objective is. Each side has a set total power (same for each side) and as they gain/lose things, that power is spread more thinly/concentrated respectively.
- Make binding roots a purgeable condition or stun-breakable.
- Walls and doors need to be MUCH stronger. The easy availability of Skill Points has resulted in masses of Superior Siege, combined with Rank Ability powercreep they have effectively made walls and doors much weaker than they were originally.
- Waypoints need to be looked at – while essential for mounting defences, they are also a huge bonus for those who are dominating on multiple maps – any further suggestions on this topic most welcome.
- Make Upgrades cost Badges of Honour instead of gold. Paying for upgrades with gold means I don’t pay for upgrades. /salute to those who do.
(edited by Svarty.8019)
Imho it should be free to leave the bottom two servers. No insult intended, but they seem to be total wastelands in terms of WvW.
So, from these basics assumptions, John Smith has decided to follow his former mentor Adam Smith and his invisible hand ?
Adam Smith would be rolling in his grave if he knew how people used his work to justify unfettered free markets.

I think it will be in PoF. #MarketManipulator

Advice to budding developers (because Anet’s won’t learn): NEVER put stealth classes in a mulitplayer game.
Stealth is quite simply a gamebreaker that is no fun to come up against.
This is not saying that we are against any adjustment to scoring, or against developing another mechanic to improve the capping system. This is simply saying that we will not be changing WvW based on some players’ idea of off time hours.
So… if you’re willing to consider adjustments to scoring or to capping mechanics, but not willing to base those on time of day, I can only conclude that any adjustments would have to be based on relative map populations regardless of time (e.g. a reworking of the Outmanned buff). Is that a fair assessment?
I would like to see an overall Garrison, where you are given a number of guards which is shared across all of your objectives.
The more you control, the more spread out the number of guards are, until you have very few defending anything.
For example, let’s say you have 100 (a random, but not unrealistic number plucked from the air for convenience’s sake) guards. If you have 5 objectives left across the maps, then each one has 20 guards (this would scale – so if you have a guard point, you would max at just a few, tower would max at considerably more and a keep would have no max.
Thus, if you are down to just one keep on a single map and all your other objectives were gone, you would have 100 guards, making it hard for the enemy to capture it.
Likewise, if you had 100 objectives across all of the maps, you would have only 1 guard at each, thus making it easier for the enemy to take your things.
This is effectively adding a “scaling difficulty” based on your success, and ties into this theme in other aspects of the game (notably Fractals). The more successful you are, the more difficult the game becomes, making it a constant, fun challenge.
Actually save yourselves is more known has " kill me "
When u pull condis from allies and get your boon corrupted….
I think the idea is that the guardian is shouting “Save Yourselves” to their companions, so they try to run away while the guardian dies. Such roleplay!

Hi Economists! Would you say that the proliferation of account bound stuff is a sign that the free market cannot exist and that it must always be regulated to some degree?
In conversations with my friends, they tell me we live in a “perverted” or “warped” version of capitalism and that total deregulation would be better.
For reasons known only to themselves, the sPvP playerbase is conspiring to have Retaliation nerfed in WvW. Video:
http://www.twitch.tv/guildwars2guru/c/2517953?t=13m54s
We have lots of retaliation and lots of our traits involve Retaliation. What should we ask Arenanet for in compensation for this incoming nerf?
I hope he brings his tinfoil hat.
