No. 1st place should get nothing. The honour of coming top is reward enough.

The best rewards should go to the bottom teams, to boost them!

Also:
Reward-hungry people would transfer to low servers who need people, leaving the top ranking servers and freeing up the queue.

All Anet has to do is bring back Alpine then see how many players in all tiers play the BL’s 24/7 for 1 week. then everybody know the answer.

The answer will be the same as now. 1 scout will sit in each keep (if you’re lucky) and then when a blob attacks, they will call EB for the zerg. That’s all Alpine was ever about.

During prime time, a few guilds will roam about on the south of the map looking for a fight, and will attack a keep when there’s no enemies. Just like on Desert maps now.

Alpine is not some magical map where everything is wonderful and sparkly. I think a lot of these forumwarriors are looking at things through rose-tinted specs.

TL:DR

  1. [..]the gate was already down by the time the tower even showed it was contested.
  2. [..] it really is hard to see the point in even upgrading structures knowing that they can be taken so easily.
  3. [..] It takes away [from] being able to defend while outnumbered, having enough time to respond to enemy attacks
  4. There are several ways to resolve this: [examples][..]
  5. I posted this cause I wanted to see the opinions that other people had and if they have faced similar situations
  6. [..] spend an hour getting the upgrades then lose it in such a quick timeframe [..] it kind of takes away the point.

I hope you don’t mind, but I tried to cut your W.O.T down for lazy people.

I think you’re absolutely correct, defending is kitten as we’re back to giant unkillable zergs doing circular karma (and now WeXP) trains.

I want to say THANK YOU to Arenanet for;

  • New Dolyak Skins – they look event appropriate and I expect them to revert after the event
  • Siege (Rams, ACs etc look SO much better)
    • Specifically ACs, which look like recoloured guild siege – BEAUTIFUL. I’d love to have these (or a new recoloured skin) replace the regular Superior ACs.
  • Great Guild Fireworks – These are a fantastic way to celebrate capturing a keep! More of this kind of thing please!
    • I note with a little disappointment that the other fireworks from this event can’t be used in WvW.

I am pleasantly amazed that WvW got some (albeit superficial) attention! Woohoo!

Why are people so afraid of raiding?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

One word:

Elitism.

And this is why the game, which prospered so much at launch, didn’t feature any kind of “elite” or arbitrarily “difficult” content. And also part of why, HoT, an expansion featured as pleasing the “hardcore” crowd has failed in the eyes of a bulk majority of players when looking at sheer numbers.

Strictly speaking, not many people care. And those that do are likely too exclusive to not care about anyone not involved in their personal affairs.

Why learn to do raids in GW2 when WoW does it better and has a wealth of willing participants?

Personally, I did my raiding 10 years ago. It felt a lot like work and I’m no longer interested in doing a job when I get home.

  • Extrapolating on this, Guardians who spec away from shouts and boon-oriented traits, such as Meditation builds, are not playing as intended. Perhaps the traits need to be reworked?
    … I can’t see that happening because Guardians are in a good place, right?
  • Reroll OP warrior like everybody else, the only thing devs see as wrong with them is their movement.

No more bannering the Lord???

in WvW

Posted by: Svarty.8019

Svarty.8019

A very regrettable and disappointing decision. I think this epitomises an unhealthy “our way or the high way” attitude. It’s my opinion that WvW should be about players expressing innovation via siege placement, battle tactics and overall strategy. The degree to which these are actually allowed to happen is debatable, but bannering the Lord allowed for interesting methods of delaying/preventing enemy captures. I think it’s a mistake to take away fun things, especially ones that help thwart massive blobs.

1k gold profit a month flipping tp?

Svarty.8019

sadly, yes, this is true. but i have no idea of how to fix current situation on legendarys other than remove them from the tp, and make precurser have a increased chanse of drop and make then acc bound… but that would prob kitten me off even further.

I think they should take legendaries out of the trading post…
Legendaries should be a reward for playing the game and not for making money.
The recipe should be more about stuff like the badges of honor, karma, the dungeon gift, the gift of mastery, the icy runestones etc…
And I dont understand why they didnt put any item in the recipe that requires Glory.

I concur with this opinion;

  • There are many items which can’t be traded, why not legendaries?
  • Legendaries should be changed from being market-oriented in their requirements to being task-oriented so that people can have fun instead of just being expert traders, third-party gold-buyers or gem purchasers – as it stands, legendaries are tarnished with a bad reputation.
  • There are plenty of jumping puzzles and other achievements which could be made into a requirement instead of the tier 6 materials and ridiculously rare lodestones.

The legendaries are supposed to (sic) “show off your accomplishments and symbolise all of the things that you’ve been doing” (Lead Designer Isiah Cartwright – in this video) and “show everyone that you are a true master of Guild Wars 2” quoted from here. I think I speak for the entire community when I say that Legendaries fail to do both of these things and perhaps even suggest that their visual effects be changed to reflect the influence that the market has had in the acquisition of the legendaries, for example a trail of dollar bills or money that flutters out of the weapon on hit.

Here is a video which discusses the problem of legendaries being available on the trading post

Official Feedback Thread: WvW Skirmishes

in WvW

Posted by: Svarty.8019

Svarty.8019

Good points about skirmishes;

  • Gives short-term objectives to players,
  • Allows losing world to feel as though they achieved something,
  • Reduces the impact of nightcaps,
  • Allows a much clearer perspective of how each side is doing overall relatively speaking,

Bad points about skirmishes;

  • Overall, doesn’t seem to help with imbalance,
  • Slightly more complicated, especially for newcomers,

Other points

  • Skirmishes illustrate how most matches are finished way before Friday’s reset.
  • I would advise against developing a system to award more Warscore for holding higher tier objectives as this will reward an already dominant world.

The State of WvW

in WvW

Posted by: Svarty.8019

Svarty.8019

World Linking has resulted in a lot of players having no interest in the score because they know that it’s almost impossible to change tiers now (“good fights” is the reason the links are made, not “a chance at first place on the ladder”).

This means that WvW has become a zerg vs zerg game where the dominant server attacks keeps until they get a fight then they recycle the fight (wait for enemy zerg to respawn and fight in the same place over and over) until the other side hasn’t got enough players to put up any resistance, then they continue to attack keeps again.
Throughout all of this, they continually gain more points through PPK than their opponents can muster in PPT.

This is why PPK is bad. It makes dominant servers more dominant.

I beg Arenanet to make it policy to implement systems which do not make dominant servers more dominant. These are bad systems. Here are examples of what NOT TO DO:

  • shield generators make powerful sides more powerful – an enormous zerg can carry a LOT of supply for these extra pieces of siege
  • being unable to banner Lords has made powerful sides more powerful
  • being unable to use waypoints into keeps in between ticks made powerful sides more powerful

Arenanet has CONSISTENTLY made powerful sides more powerful despite logic and FUN demonstrating that this is NOT good for any kind of game.

When doing the balance segment, instead of going through every class without specific questions, perhaps it’s better to ask specific class balance questions.

Because I noticed last SotG went like this:

Q: Rangers?

Devs: Oh, blah blah…blah.

Q: Necros?

Devs: Yup, blah blah..

Q: Eles?

Devs: Mmmhm, blah.

This went on for what, 30 minutes? The devs’ responses were not very informative because there were no specific class balance questions. And also, you can make this segment much shorter by going to the core of things and asking specific questions for specific classes.

Also, try to phrase your questions so that it’s not susceptible to “Yes/No” easy-out answers. For example, instead of asking, “Are we going to see changes to Warriors next patch?” (Devs will respond with “Yup” or “Nah”), you could rephrase it like “What do you think needs to be changed for Warriors? What problems does the class have?”

A good indication of whether or not the devs know what they’re doing is to make them state the problem in their own words. Have them tell us what the problem is, and what their solutions are. Also remember to challenge the devs with thought-provoking questions. Don’t let them off the hook easily. They are being paid by the hour, so really exercise their brains with challenging questions.

This person took media studies. Listen to them.

Legendary Armor: Feedback [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Svarty.8019

Svarty.8019

My feedback is that it IS worthwhile spending some time to create content that people aspire to attain.

It ISN’T worthwhile spending an inordinately lengthy amount of time generating content that people will be forced into an unpopular game-mode to attain.

As with most things in life, you have to balance the time and effort.

IMO Arenanet spent far FAR too long creating legendary armour and although I understand that they wanted it to be special, I think making it animate, knowing that even static armour clips and takes super-long to make because of weird playable character models (I’m blaming the Charr model again, yes), Arenanet should not have attempted it.

I would like a type of legendary armour (simply for it’s stat-selection and rune refunding) to be available in other modes because there is no way I’ll ever touch raids. I finished doing those in WoW in 2006.

Why does WvW feel bad?

in WvW

Posted by: Svarty.8019

Svarty.8019

Pre-hot it was much easier for a larger force to get into keeps but the defenders also had more options for defending against a force that was inside the lords room. Bannering the lord and using the keep waypoint between events were ways to prolong lord room fights. Prolonging lord room fights allow a smaller force to potentially cut off reinforcements and whittle away at the larger force.
[..]
In short I believe that keep fights are important for keeping a 70/30 fight win rate between uneven groups, which is important for the longevity of the game. For this to happen I believe that keeps need to be redesigned to prolong the fights in keeps, not the fights to get into the keeps. Examples of this can be seen in pre-hot gameplay that has now been removed.

Many of these points have been identified many times over many many posts on this forum. But they remain as valid as ever because;

One game can only be so much. If you want more than that game can provide – look elsewhere. That’s not an insult, that’s logic. You might also make suggestions to the developers, and hope they adopt your proposal, but don’t hold your breath.

Ultimately, looking for another game is simply common sense and not something to be upset about – all games eventually come to an end (even WoW – actually, scratch that, not WoW. WoW will be there after humanity is long gone, still churning out raids – That’s automation, right there).

  4. make a poor decision to glide nearby
  5. only half of the enemy do so
  6. the ones who glided are wiped first and then the other half of the enemies

In the second fight;

  1. You steamroll a small group with a larger one. Nothing to see here.

In the third fight;

  1. same as second fight

In the fourth fight;

  1. The enemy begin in a good tight ball
  2. but it goes wrong straight away when they are pushed
  3. people run in all directions
  4. wipefest

I stopped watching here.
