Fix dynamic events!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Valento.9852

Valento.9852

It has passed almost three years and there are long-standing bugged events throughout our beloved Tyria. I can’t help but think you just don’t love the game core anymore… don’t you devs remember how you raised the events flag as THE game-selling feature? Events should be at the very least fixed. I was planning to create a topic to suggest expanding them, improving the current system and adding more to it, but how can that be possible if the base event chains are simply bugged?

Actually it’s worse than just being bugged, players have to pray to RNGsus that NPC’s don’t bug out and stop progress. Players do sometimes fear they’ll lose all their progress, be it instance events (dungeons anyone?) or open world events. It’s about time you fix your… events. We have to be extra cautious to get around them or we’ll be stuck and will have to redo from the start, or just give up on a chain event.

I see some GW1 bugs are now immortalized as development for that game has been halted so you could focus on GW2, but I didn’t want that development posture to revive here. You don’t just forget about an old event because you’re too focused on the next xpac, many players bought the core game and fell in love because of central Tyria no matter how hard you try to push new layouts. And that’s ok to be honest, just remember there are altoholics here that play the game multiple times and enjoy every time they play through a zone… only to find the same bugged events all over again.

This is frustrating, ArenaNet, I tell you. This is frustrating.

Raids are coming to GW2!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Valento.9852

Valento.9852

For those who are talking about Damage/Damage/Damage, follow a guild raid in WvW and you will see that’s not the case at all. Control and Support are equally important, if not more important than Damage, in a PVP setting. Lots of different stats are being used (Berserker is not the dominant stat combo) lots of skills (and weapon sets) are useful and powerful and not just a tiny few that complete the “best” PVE builds.

Mechanics are here, stat combos are here, the trinity (Damage/Control/Support) is here in any form of PVP. I believe before the Raid CDI they should do a Mob CDI, how to redesign every single mob to use more PVP-like abilities that will make PVE better and not just Damage/Damage/Damage.

I’m with you. We have many skills and there should be some kind of importance using one or another, it just feels we only have to burn the most damaging skills and be done with it. PvE became just: DAMAGE.

[Suggestion] Story journal tales

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Valento.9852

Valento.9852

Hi everyone.

Long ago ANet writers wrote what they called short stories, which were basically pretty chunks of Guild Wars 2 lore told outside the game, through blogposts, and as such added some depth to soon-to-come characters (such as Marjory and Canach). These stories were well-received by some (like me), while others hated them because for them these stories were an excuse to add lore to the game which were supposed to be told in-game. The devs listened, and stopped writing those.

Later on they introduced the Story Journal, a tool to track each step of personal story and upcoming Living World-related stories, the framework is used to this day and works like this:

  • Tracks Personal Story by default, containing 8 chapters
  • Tracks Living World season one summary
  • Tracks Living World season two
  • Tracks Heart of Thorns story

Each tab contains its chapters.

Since the stories tend to focus on Elder Dragon related stuff and sometimes the central plot rushes towards the end (Heart of Thorns arc, Eir’s part to be specific), it may make the story a bit lacking because some details go missing, and sometimes a character lacks depth or backstory (like short stories).

I would like to suggest devs add a tab to the Story Journal called “Tales”, in which they could add small side stories to add weight to the narrative, and the world itself. This idea is inspired by the short stories because I loved them so much.

I’m going to list how it would work mechanically, but I know that this may be difficult and $$$-consuming to produce, so if things are too difficult and not worth it, I’d understand. Here’s how it would work:

  • One (or max. two) instance(s) that would start somewhere in the world of Tyria, with a few NPCs that make up the ambience.
  • The story would not be focused on us, the player, but on some other figures or characters either well-known or random in the world.
  • The instance would have voice-acting to add immersion, and maybe just one cinematic or none (if this is too expensive).
  • To accommodate the player in the story as not to interfere but still make a play, depending on the story and to make sense we could be transformed into another race (don’t hate me on this, the focus is the lore anyways). The class/gear/skills/etc would be retained of course.
  • Each tale would reward with (one-time only):
    • 5 or 10 Achievement Points
    • A Package of Tale Reader (1 Class Specific Box such as the one sold be laurel vendor, maybe 1 cosmetic stuff such as mini or back skin, and 1g)
  • Each story would cost 100 gems (for revenues).
    • I’d like to add one more thing for revenues, and hopefully this next suggestion is fair considering tales would be optional: additionally the Package of Tale Reader would contain 1 Tale’s Paper token, amassing tokens would lead to a vendor that sells weapon skins. (Warning! no one is forced to do these stories, it’s just another more forgiving way to profit, specially when you compare to Black Lion weapon skins)

And that’s it. I’ve attached an image of how I imagine it would look. If you have constructive and respectful feedback I’d appreciate.

Thanks!

Concerns about ANet development behavior

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Valento.9852

Valento.9852

Hi there, guys. I’d like to express my concern about ANet reputation throughout the years when it comes to consistency on delivery. This is not a hate thread, it’s a legit concern.

See, it all started with Living World season 1 when updates were frequent, and a balanced mix of open world/instance, and a few items both in-game and gemstore. Soon ArenaNet realized the manpower needed to keep up was too huge or else it would work like enslaving the devs to create such amount of content. This is, too much content and unable to create for the stablished schedule. They decided to stop for reasons such as difficulty to maintain, and zero replayability value, but the main point is: it seems they hadn’t foreseen this could happen.

Second, they came up with Story Journal and season 2, and declared LS updates to be biweekly. The new framework allowed for replayability, but nobody replays just for the sake of replaying a story chapter, there wasn’t (isn’t) incentive for such. The schedule seemed to be settling down, but then they gave up on that aswell. Again, they hadn’t foreseen this could happen.

Third, there was a gigantic content drought while creating the expansion. This made the entire community overhype HoT to all extremes, regardless of everything Colin had been stating, that the xpac would be what he showcased on the reveal and players shouldn’t expect more than that. He was honest. But that seemed like a PR speech and we maybe could get more things, or maybe shortly after the xpac there would be LS3 (yeah…). Well, no. Everyone devoured the content to death, and partially that was because the content wasn’t much in terms of depth. It’s also important to remember that it’s been long since ArenaNet started reevaluating the game way too much, and polish, and redo core, and “improve the base game”. Feature Packs, and HoT were all about polishing stuff… but I have a feeling that they were actually fixing their true intent since the game’s launch on 2012. It’s a separate story, but I have a feeling the game launch was rushed. But anyways, they hadn’t foreseen players would consume the content in the blink of an eye. That was because it lacked depth, while the new mechanics for the millionth time “improved the base game” to allow for… more… in the future.

It draws a pattern that’s worrying:
1. They’re always strengthening the “core”. I think the core will never be strengthened enough. There are always these new frameworks to allow for more content, but the content is never delivered, instead we get new frameworks. We don’t want the plate anymore, we want cake. It’s been so long that their philosophy is so centered towards frameworks that it saddens me.

2. They always come up with schedules, and always go back in their own word. They cut content because they’re unable to do it. Do they even have meetings for this? Well, I think they do. How could someone responsible in there not realize some things can’t be done in time? Are they going to postpone new legendaries? Or maybe re-schedule the LS from 2-3 months (as we know from Reddit) to 6 months? Well, we’ll never know. But it’s clear now that they are horrible with scheduling content, and this saddens me aswell. For how much I like the game.

3. Content drought has become another part of the company behavior. It’s not my intent to make devs mad at me, or MO. But we got facts on hands: you guys postpone things and make up stuff, but the players… the players aren’t so blind. We know what we’re getting, and to what extent we’re getting. And you, ANet, is always making up little things as big, and time passes, and the amount of content is always so underwhelming that it takes the shine from HoT away. It didn’t matter how awesome HoT was, the content drought before, and after it was so long that folks are stopping to care how brightful it once was. Content drought damages the game in a way you rarely see in other MMO titles out there, F2P included.

So yeah, I just wanted to get this out of my throat. Some decisions, and behaviors make me really sad about the game. I am not leaving GW2. I even bought GW so I could understand more from the aspect I love the most: the story. But there are things that… really make me sad.

First, your quote is wrong (I remember when I first wrote that quoting from an early interview, and I stand correct to this moment). Second, you can’t change the attunements! They are the core of this profession and will always exist! Elite specs will work on top of attunements, and this is expected.

[BW2] Feedback Thread

in Elementalist

Posted by: Valento.9852

Valento.9852

Why I think Tempest crticism is mostly innacruate:
People want Tempest to be overpowered. They want it to power up Elementalist rather than be an alternative to Elementalist.

With Fresh Air S/W Tempest, I’ve never had a problem ever with the 5 seconds wait time for Air Overload. Now, there is a very big problem with Earth and Water Overloads: when you need the protection and the heal, it’s often too late. However, what you can do as a S/W Tempest is Cylcone —> Lightning Orb --> Air Overload. Go into might stacking combo and by the time you return to air, Cyclone and Lightning Orb will be mostly off cooldown if you take the 20% off Warhorn Skills. Cyclone is on a 11 second cooldown and you can overload while it knocks because down and always have access to a blind on your 3 skill. Then a smart tempest will abuse LoS and overload to an enemy who cannot hit them. With a Marauder Amulet, Air Overload can 100-0 a glassy ranger.
Yes, Tempest is not perfect. Please don’t listen to people who demand it to be perfect. It should be balanced, not have every tool in the game. Our shouts don’t have to be absolutely perfect: yes, some could do some work, but they shouldn’t be the absolute strongest kitten in the world. Eye of the Storm does not need to give lightning Aura: that’s just people wanting even more on a class they’re not fully certain how to play to make up for the difficulty of Overloading, which should not be an issue if they work around LoS and Cyclone.

Your feedback is highly biased. There’s another thread that screams “Tempest issue: NOT A NUMBER PROBLEM!”, as in we’re not asking for more damage, or more healing, but working mechanics that you can actually use, and well-stablished trait line. You can see most of the elite specs provide more focused gameplay with interesting and synergic trait options, whilst tempest ones are all over the place and unfocused, and on top of that we have easily-interruptible overloads (mesmer, necro, warrior, ranger, engineer, etc etc pretty much all classes can daze/stun/knockback you from afar, in PvE this holds true for a lot of HoT creatures aswell).

See, I still think 50s on “Shock and Aftershock!” is balanced, despite what people say, when it provides a powerful projectile reflection, but your view about the tempest issues seems too narrow. No one is asking for “more”, we’re asking for “different”, and they’re simply throwing old gameplays into an elite spec and calling it new. At this stage, as it looks quite impossible to go back to the drawing board, we’re simply asking for tweaks to overloads and mainly traits. Again, not a NUMBER issue. Think it through.

Elementalists! Let's discuss legendary staff

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Valento.9852

Valento.9852

So, I’ve been thinking, I believe that many elementalists love staffs (maybe not the staff skills, but the staff itself), and didn’t like the rainbowy lollipop.
How would you like the legendary for elementalists to look like, if you were in charge of designing it? Comment about the appearance, and mainly the effects (body glow effects, and footsteps effects).

I myself would like an staff specific for elementalists that would have a base default look, and would have swirling auras based on the element, upon switching attunements. The foosteps would follow that same element, that would be rather cool, the devs can do whatever mechanics they want to I see this as a possibility.

And you?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Valento.9852

Valento.9852

Though you’ve already talked about it, I’d like to know if you’re still considering putting the season 1 in the game? As far as I know, while you put that small summary, a dev has spoken you’d like to bring it to the game. Would you have permission to tell us if you’re, I dunno, working on it? At least slightly? We have fractals that takes slices of season 1 during two great events (Molten Alliance with Rox ‘n Braham joining forces, and the Aetherblades’ culminating in Mai Trin going to the jail). So it might be possible? There are open world story instances in personal story and living story already, so maybe the Marionette fight could be re-scaled to make it possible to solo? You could add NPCs that mimic the three lanes’ fight, and make the player participation one-lane-only, and make it easier during the platform’s phase…. solely for the purpose of story-telling.

I mean, I’m sure it will be plenty of work, but I’d pay for it even being there when it was first released. I love the ability to replay LS experiences, and a few friends of mine have always dreamed of knowing each step Scarlet made during her episode in the world of Tyria. The Tower of Nightmares is a grand ambient that particularly my guildies are very fans of!

I know that during the early years of GW2 folks complained about Scarlet arc, and that they were too anxious to know the mentor, and maybe at some points they outraged because the story didn’t feel like it progressed, but looking backwards it was (is!) a great story, and it holds much value for me as a player. I really hope you bring it back.

WP's Tempest Build

I know where ele fails to offer party-support. Most classes can already give all those might stacks, and important boons, PLUS fixed damage modifiers, so they surpass us. You know what we’d need to make a huge difference in raids, making us eligible for being picked?

Party-wide Condition Damage modifier. We wouldn’t be taken for all raids perhaps, or for some wings there would be parts where we’d be kind of useless because direct damage would be better, but having an AoE condi damage buff would make us have something specially unique. Plus, we know that for longer fights condi damage is way better. Maybe something tied to burning, like a constant chance for the party at spiking burning on critical?

I don’t know, druid/rev combo surpass the need for tempests support-wise, and druid have a godly party damage modifier trait, and berserker still fulfills a major DPS role with party-wide fury+might. All of them can outperform us.

Not only in Brazil, but many countries have bad people who act in a childish nosense way and can bring bad things to the game (RMT’s don’t even exist here), if you generalize that behavior from one game to all the others then you’re taking it a bit too far.

BWE 3 Tempest Specialization Changes

Lightning Orb: It would be great if we could swap location with the orb on 2nd tab. This would make it a great and unique tool for mobility and also improve damage on enemies standing still or moving elsewhere, since we could make the orb move through them twice. Also just make it move into the direction the character is facing.

Oooo. I do like this!!

I like this aswell. Something I told on my first feedback is a weird lack of mobility from the weapon itself, totally contrary to being “tempestuous”, and actually it doesn’t make sense from any angle…

Will they expand horizontal progression through collecting special itens to craft glow effects for skins (like enchanted dyes that makes armor glow)?

Wow… you used all slots? ArenaNet, give this man/woman a hug now. xD

I hope they give us a slot expansion discount soon, I’d like to buy 3 more.

2-3 months between LS3 Chapters

Is this the future strategy to market “content”? Locking LS progress behind 2-3 months schedule? I know this is mostly rumour, but if the aforementioned info is true these chapters better be bigger and much more filled with content than what we had with season 2. I don’t think PvErs which are attached to lore will be happy with such delayed chapter releases.

Anet forgotten there's underwater gameplay?

If I’m not wrong, an ANet dev once stated we won’t be getting much of UW combat due to how impopular it is (as mentioned by Konig), so there would be fixes and such but no addition whatsoever.

IMO that’s very sad, not only because I made Kraitkin (yep, I did), the whole concept is fun, maybe lacking a bit of “action” but it seems to me that’s the very nature of this system. And man, if you look at Frostgorge Sound or Straits of Devastation, plenty of water everywhere! :P

I’ll pass this on to my entire guild and make sure each vote goes to Evon.

@Edit
Hopefully they’ll adjust fractals, perhaps polish them a bit more and give them a new purpose, as of now I have very few reasons to ever do them.
