A pretty fair change with this update giving us options to calibrate what our PCs can handle.
It’s funny how just a few mentioned elementalists, staff eles need a proper role instead of jack-of-all-trades. -_-
Rune of Mitigation
(1) +25 Healing Power
(2) +10% Protection Duration
(3) +50 Healing Power
(4) 50% chance to apply weakness for 5 seconds when struck while you have an aura (10 sec cooldown)
(5) +100 Healing Power
(6) Gain a random aura every 35 seconds while in combatwhat you guys think?
Interesting.
I love so much the open world, but I only appreciate running around in my alts while levelling them since it’s pointless to head back with my main.
As I said once, they must give new goals to people once they achieve something (hitting lvl80, getting an achievement that unlocks new possibilities?).
Overall I’m hopeful and looking forward.
PS.: Please, I beg you, do something about Dragons and their rewards please. >.<
I get this all the time. They are very mean to me.
Chris
I’m so sorry, Chris. I would hug you, but I blame you for anything that was ever wrong with the game by default.
And that is how it should be. I completely understand.
Don’t mean to be evil, but that’s a relief! Keep up the good work!
My prediction:
→ Hype Train toy: Shouts “working as intended” and “nothing is off the table” every once in a while.
→ New race for 3,000 gems (discount from 3,500 gems)
→ 2 new classes for 2,200 gems each
→ Regular salvage kits are removed from the game.
→ Waypointing will cost 10gems
→ Headache debuff: 50% chance of triggering during normal gameplay. Plays “This won’t end well.” every time you lose HP. Removed by Glorious Mouthshutter bought from gemstore for only 500gems each.
I’ll have to think it through, but looks pretty accurate.
Why ArenaNet? Elementalist is probably the 2nd most used class and you screw it up. I’m so looking forward to the payoff for this.
Things which should go to Material Storage IMO:
- Blade Shards – because yes
- Any Doubloon – because it’s where these belong, Sun Beads are there, why can’t doubloons?
- Petrified Wood / Blood Rubies – because these have a chance to be craftable items, if they’re never used then just discard… material storage are for materials, not a currency (which these are)
- Reclaimed Metal Plate / Chak Eggs – because these are becoming widely used for crafting, and as such they’re fit to material storage
- Tenebrous / Shimmering Crystals – just wanted to say I disagree with these, they enter player inventory on a slow rate so…
- Amalgamated Gemstones – gosh forgot about these, they’re already so part of the economy and crafting system; it should’ve been part of material storage since day #1.
These are the ones I remember from the top of my head.
I was at first, now my hype has been totally smashed as they continued releasing information but at the cost of not adding nothing new to the live game. I mean events, and content that you actually play. There’s been none. It’s like “oh look, we’re doing an xpac that’s all about mechanics and laying the groundwork, etc, and because of that no new content for ya, sorry everyone is too busy”.
Sadder part is as you said “oh look, we’re doing an xpac that’s all about mechanics and laying the groundwork, etc”. This is 90% a big feature patch….it doesn’t even feel like an expansion..from what they’ve shown so far. It lacks the “meat”…it just offers you “fries” and tells you it has “meat” flavor in it. It’s like they are trying to sell a “ground-laying” feature patch as an expansion..which in reality it should have been just a regular patch that lead to a proper expansion.
They either have close to nothing when it comes to the expectations of an EXPANSION…or they have the worst marketing&communications team i’ve seen…..or both.
Right now i am not enticed to pay for it. If i do get it, i will only do that after 2-3 months pass and see what ppl say, reviewers say..watch some livestreams etc…because right now it lost not only the hype but the trust i had for it.
You know, yesterday my guildies and I had a heated debate on how ANet is developing the game. Since the feature packs and mostly the NPE, ArenaNet has been on a “rework train”. Everything major is all “we’re reworking because we felt it wasn’t OK”, “we’re re-evaluating this”, “we’re strengthening the core because of…”, “we’re laying the groundwork”, etc. I am honestly sorry, but there are too many reworks and too few actual CONTENT, the “meat” you’ve stated. We’ve even been looking for a new MMORPG because the game has been feeling too much stale content-wise, it seems they can’t offer traditional xpac, but at the same time can’t offer ongoing content like they once planned. The activity in my guild has decreased a lot due to how boring it became to repeat dungeons to death, and they haven’t even revealed a release date.
*snip wall of text
Seems the 80s are coming back?
I connect with this. This is me.
Bwahahahah dahell man xD
Too much of a stereotype here. I play mainly females, but don’t act as one. Hopefully there’s nothing such as gender-lock based on your SSN (or whatever your country’s is), eh?
Yeah variable dailies!!!!! THIIIIS!
Somehow I feel a bit sorry for really needing rewards, it’s just that it becomes pointless coming back even though the world itself is beautifully designed, bringing new rewards will make it more fun to replay old content with friends and guildies!
I’m thinking of finding a party for daily map runs! lol (to RP and whatnot)
Awesome post Colin!
Think you’re pushing a bit too much with Obsidian Flesh. It’s justified for focus because of mid range nature and not much survivability as a weapon alone. Staff on the other hand has mass cc and heals. Removing Obsidian Flesh will just make the weapon pointless for the most part.
I will look into a refund aswell. I couldn’t anticipate it would break the animation, I took it would be the same as black one. It was a poor fix indeed.
Did he… did he just accept this idea and implement it? :O
Wow… is he really an ANet dev? xD
I own an ele and feel it pretty dark. lol
Eh :P
I have it listed under light mostly because of Water & Earth
Air is sort of in the middle. I guess you can sort of red-rover it to neutral o.ONecro takes the cake though for dark
Because I’m a baddie sometimes. Just… sometimes. :X
I have no problem buying an expansion, but I’d like an ending to each story without cliffhangers aswell. Just end it. Start fresh with a more creative background. They can start a plot by showing memories of something we’ll use, or don’t center the whole thing around the player. I am mostly fine not to be the center of everything all the time. It gets tiring every time. Let the other characters develop side stories on their own, and we can help them, but not like “zomg you saved the world”. Put more emphasys on the OTHER characters, let them play their own role. Let them be more independent, and have us make a participation. Just a participation.
How could you nerf Warhorn Heat Sync when Signet of Inspiration does the same thing it was doing on a class that can 1-shot people from stealth? Where is the logic?
How can it be overpowered for ele but fine for another class with a better health pool that has stealth?
I agree with this. Water Globe isn’t gonna cut it I’m afraid, despite being an awesome skill it is not what makes Warhorn shines, Heat Sync is.
As per title: Cantha and Elona aside (too broad of an expectation), what would surprise you the most? I myself would love Wizard’s Tower as something explorable, be it an instance, open world or through a raid. What about you guys, what would surprise you the most?
They could give us some kind of easter event… but they are to busy ruining game for some players =)
They bring new features as a manner to polish, but it turns out this polish will need to be polished even further… that’s way too much polish-fix-polish-fix-polish-fix-polish…
As long as legendaries aren’t stronger (stats) than ascended, make them earned HOWEVER you want. I don’t care. Account-bound the hell out of it.
I don’t want PRECURSOR WEAPONS and LEGENDARIES to be sold. The crafting materials is fine. Praise ANet.

Mounts? Seeing people approving this is so contradictory… oh well.
Tried 100g for the staff skin, the very first decent staff for elementalist I’ve ever seen and had to gamble to win absolutely nothing.
The lack of decent staff skins is unbearably disgusting.
+1 for Greatsword Wars 2, because stupid GS is never too much.
Loot should be mailed to you instead of losing it due to inventory full.
This is just another “i need something” thread which provides a method that the OP has to get those things.
If you need more mystic coins, get them from the TP like everyone else or save up the free ones you get until you have enough.
There should be a TP-free option of acquiring Mystic Coin in a sustainable way. Preferrably incetivizing exploring other parts of the game. Mystic Coins shouldn’t be this scarce.

I’d prefer to see the Sickiest Guild invited because they were actually able to take down the Vale Guardian more than once, and they most likely have a more clear behavior when it comes to meta, so their input wouldn’t be too biased towards the current horrible meta.
So yeah, making a legendary contingent on a single very rare drop is a terrible system. On the other hand chances are good that you will do more than the amount expected to get a precursor and still not get it without the RNG being broken.
On the flip side, making Precursors more available would increase the number of people working on a Legendary which will increase demand for the parts. If we increase the demand of already rare parts (the t6 fine materials), the price will rise.
Basically, right now it costs a lot of gold to complete step 1 (“get a precursor”). If we make step 1 cheaper, then you’ll have a lot of people who have completed step 1 and now need to complete step 2 (“get T6 fine materials”). All we’ve done is shifted the cost to step 2, so you’re really no closer to your goal at all, you just feel a bit better about your progress because you were able to check off a cheap step 1.
I’d rather start from ZERO today but having a reasonable way of obtaining the precursor than amassing a pile of gold for that single item. The progression feels way smoother, and I got a lot of people agreeing with me (including guildies).
I just hope they don’t come up with a lot of individuals absorbing dragons’ magic and forming an Evil Power Rangers group. I am serious.
I don’t know who is that Consortium but I want to punch him in the face. hahah
It looks like Roy Cronacher was behind these changes, so I extend my appreciation to him aswell.
That moment when you realize that smart positioning and playing different roles in a fight has been shortened to simply “trinity”. Man, do I love this so-called trinity!
@Edit
Current meta is about nullifying mechanics and dealing DPS. Hope ANet fixes this horrible flaw in their PvE content. Thank you.
This bar, when clicked, opens a functionless dialog window (the one with the currencies).
That window alone took them 4 months to introduce once discussed and now you want to make changes to some pixels on it?! are you mad? It’ll halt all development on anything else for another year at ArenaNet-pace™.
Besides, I’m sure they will take their own direction regardless of any of your text, then talk about it in some motivating menifesto, and introduce it Soon™ completely different to what you wanted, meanwhile having a CDI show /sorry/ thread on it to keep appearances.
… Even if its mere pixels your talking about.
Brb g2g, I have some ascended rings I need to salvage.
Wow that was acid, are you having a bad day?
But yeah, that wouldn’t be top priority.
The game is for casuals, learn it and move to other game (there’s a fine one coming 2013/2014).
Will it be possible for elementalists to have a burning condi. meta? Right now it’s waaaaaaaaaaaay too weak. It seems kinda surprising how well guardians will perform, but I for one would welcome a burning meta, we’re… elementalists after all.
They need to design new gold sinks, the whole economy should **NOT*** be only about precursors. Legendaries shouldn’t be sellable in the first place.
@Rebound, I haven’t thought about that and it does make sense… 2 years for ONE precursor, feels much more of a reward than a cake-pooping glowy cannon toy. :X
Well, on the positive side, the Avatar of the Pale Tree mini does have a firefly/glitter aura that rivals Faren’s. Still, her unblinking, thousand-yard stare only gifts her with slightly more personality than Trahearne.
Poor Trahearne, this won’t end well
To arms!
Love it. What I love the most is Tribulation Mode, it offers some decent challenge for the boredom that comes from the dungeons (since both are 5-man content).
Keep in mind that the main subject is about an ADDITION called “raids”, not wiping current dungeons or instances. So if YOU are satisfied with what we have now, by all means keep playing those, but aside from pathetical rage all these hatred posts contribute to nothing.
The unnerfed and actually somewhat difficult dungeon content, after the trait-related rescaling, has been limited to 2 dungeons + fractals. So yeah.
I’d love to see something that adds content for me, instead of demolishing it (hi, megaserver and NPE!), so I really hope that small guilds will be included without the need to search for alliances and switching the representation all the time.
Thankfully no one HAS to do ANY content in the game, it’s really all optional. If I don’t like fractals then I don’t do it, if I don’t like zerged events such as Tequatl then I don’t do it, just as simple.
@Edit
And for the love of God: raids don’t imply gear treadmill, it’s simply an originally instanced content for a medium amount of people (usually 24). ANet stepped away from gear treadmill, and I’m glad they did, what I’m looking forward to is skin-based raids.
(edited by Valento.9852)
We all want it, and that’s exactly why it ain’t gonna happen.
No we don’t all want to pay for an expansions with the requisite level cap increase and gear treadmill as ‘must have’ buys.
Who told you expansions mean level cap increase and/or gear treadmill?
Can’t lie to you, I trust ArenaNet writers. Sometimes the focus go amiss, but they have such potential for side stories, it just feels like they have yet to unlock all their creativity, and I personally found them to be pretty good at smaller stories/tales. It’s also a way for them to sharpen their story-telling.
I highly doubt GW2 will reach a good reputation in that regard. Challenge is a myth in this game, just get over it.
Tempest was never supposed to be a pure healing spec like druid. This was obvious since its reveal and is nothing new. Tempest is simply a failed support spec that relies on sub-par auras and does nothing to actually make them good. Tempest also brings some healing and boons as a bonus, but they are not enough to make it competitive atm.
I know, it’s just disheartening. Tempest is getting behind every other single elite spec. No funny PvP videos against noobs will convince me at this point, they have to show a role where Tempest does good, or we’re forced to completely ignore this spec. This game isn’t all about animation or ocasional buffs, it’s about SYNERGY, and Tempest is officially under tuned in every way now.
Hahah these forums get funnier every day. Raids are one of the selling content for the expansion, what did you expect?
What will happen to the expensive exotics?

Everyone KNEW that ascended weapons would come to the game, as will gear, why the whinning? LOL
What they have to do is to get rid of the 5s cd of overload attunement. I mean, the 20s recharge is enough of a punishement, no need to make us being stuck in one attunement just cause we want to overload it.
Im not saying tempest isnt viable… I can use shouts and warhorn in some of my builds. But overloads? Nah, never.
Now, just tell me: 5-second channeling, while in melee, without stability? Who summed up these combat properties as a good mechanics? Like all the mobs/players in pvp will say: oh hai, we not interrupt you, just channel and deal monster damage on us, we won’t break your casting. tehee
It’s not even as if we could channel FAR from the mob. The damage takes place in a PBAoE fashion, i.e., around the tempest……….
No. Just, no.
It’s about time! This is the major selling feature for a lot of players.
