Considering there hasn’t been a traditional gem store update since June (unless you count the booster change), I doubt there will be anything new added to the store come tomorrow.
With that said, they could surprise us.
it is a shame that in the USA Anet one is using game stop which is not that great by any means . if they went with another one like amazon it would give a more better and easy way to get this game. since from what i get there will be no disc,s at all coming with this game at all . so we in the USA are stuck with our choice of game stop or the gem store. not sure how that works out for thos wanting a second account. maybe after the game comes out Anet will let amazon sell it too
Both AmazonUS and AmazonUK sell Heart of Thorns for pre-purchase, only that the former is a digital serial code and the latter is a box with the code on a pamphlet.
An issue would come with some weapons already found in the game, for example, ascended weapons of a different stat type, but of the same weapon type.
In that case, the weapon already has a different colour depending on which stat type it is associated with, so unless all ascended weapon types are then given a baseline colour, it would bring some issues.
What the white star indicates is that this is your most recently played episode. If you hover over it, I think it states that.
It is annoying for it to have a different symbol from all of the others, but so far there isn’t anything we can do to change it back to the normal golden star (as far as I know) without causing another episode to have the white star instead.
That one can’t ever be entirely “completed”.
It works similarly to the “Agent of Entropy” Tradesman achievement which will cap out on the number of points you can acquire, but will still keep on counting how many times you salvage even after you can’t earn anything further from it.
Some suggestions do get through to Anet, so it is worth posting suggestions in the off chance they are implemented in some way. Aside from that, we have been told the developers do browse the forums on occasion, and stumbling across suggestions always gives ideas.
Of course, don’t expect every suggestion to be implemented.
An example of one that made it into the game is the Custom Mail Carrier.

You can find a summary of Season 1, including some descriptions about who the NPC’s you are playing with are, on the wiki page here: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Living_World_season_1
Further, there isn’t currently any way to replay any parts of Season 1 of the Living World, but it is possible that in the future, ArenaNet will add all the story of Season 1 into the new ‘Story Journal’ and allow all players to experience what occurred during Season 1 (likely, but not certainly, with a small gem fee to unlock if you had not logged in during some parts of Season 1), but currently, there is no way to experience/play it.
I just bought HoT a few minutes ago. I’m worried that I might not get the gems at all. I will just log out and wait for awhile, maybe watch some anime or something to keep my mind off the stress ;(
If you don’t receive your gems after 72 hours (and you definitely purchased the Ultimate edition), I recommend you contact support to receive your gems.
It isn’t redundant, as HoT purchasers are also getting the core game with no restrictions, whereas free players still have restrictions on the core game.
As far as I know, they are only used for the Spinal Blades. So unless you plan on using them to make the ascended piece for alts, destroy them for extra space.
They should at least change the idle animation to the same as the Elementalist staff idle animation (as Druids use the staff for casting, not for melee like the Daredevil, so holding it as if you are about to hit someone with it is a little strange for the Druid).
1) This will sound harsh, but it is not Anet’s fault if you decided to not play the game since its release.
2) By microtransaction currency, I presume you mean gems? Veteran players are not given free gems for having bought the core game before it went free to play. What us veterans got was a free outfit, and if you pre-purchased the expansion, a bonus character slot.
3) You don’t have to buy the expansion to continue to play; if you like, you can easily wait a few months after October 23rd until HoT goes on sale and you can pick it up then cheaper if you still intend to play.
I find it interesting that this was suggested a week ago and it went nowhere.
Yet this thread suddenly boomed.
What exactly seems to be the problem here?
Silk price has been quite stable since ascended armor got introduced, so i dont know why they should cut its demand by 33%, 50% or 66%. It would bring it back to vendor value in no time and even add additional demand on all the other tier cloth, which would go up in price.
In the past month alone, the price of silk has increased 50% from approximately 2s to 3s, and it will keep on rising until some months after the expansion releases.
that would be nc soft, not anet.
nc soft decides all the money things.
anet works for nc soft.they can still get 100% revenue for sales on their own website (buy.guildwars2.com)
they will be earning extra on sales on steam.nc soft is just too greedy to look past that.
Except they would lose out on some potential 100% income from purchases on their website which players might instead purchase from Steam, thus giving NCSoft (you are right there, apologies) the potential for less income.
This YouTube video has someone playing around with updrafts.
Very recently a thread arose talking about this topic. Effectively, they are a finite resource as you can no longer obtain them as far as I know, so the price will keep rising. I do recommend you read the thread I have linked above, as it gives answers better than I can say.
You will be able to use all existing characters to play HoT once the expansion launches on 23rd October.
The beta characters you are using now are solely for that – the beta – and will be deleted come the release of HoT. This is to prevent players from receiving new items and progressing the new systems (masteries etc) before the expansion actually launches, and of course, to test.
I agree that the new icon is difficult to see, but I think it would be too confusing to simply change it back at this point if Hero Points suddenly had the Skill Point icon.
Perhaps they could simply change the colour of the current icon to something that is clearer on a map?
I hate to say it, but RNG is RNG.
I had the complete opposite luck that you had; I never found a single fossil for the entire time Dry Top was being released during Season 2, but in the past two weeks of roaming there I managed to find two fossils from the chests.
As a side comment, I found that I actually get more zephyrite keys from the piles of sand than bandit keys, but then again that is also RNG.
It is part of the beta weekend; I don’t know if live characters can test it, but beta characters certainly can.
And it is a new system arriving with Heart of Thorns to provide incentive for returning to older maps.
“The “Full” threshold is slightly different than the other ones because it doesn’t have an upper limit. So some servers can be just slightly above the threshold and marked “Full”, and some other servers might be well over it, and also marked “Full”, even though their populations aren’t really balanced.
The intent is that since you can’t join or transfer to a “Full” server, their populations are going to diminish over time, until eventually they reach “Very High” again. At this point, all “Full” servers are going to be balanced. This won’t be right away, though, since we’re not kicking anyone out of their servers."
Well, personally I only had bad experiences with games that went f2p or had f2p servers. I can’t think of one game that has a nice f2p community. Now the veteran players are forced to mix with the f2p players (sorry for all those nice f2p newcomers, I really don’t want to insult you). That’s why I am worried about this move from Anet.
That is true. The only other free-to-play game I had played was LotRO, and the community there still managed to be mature regardless, even in the starting areas, so I don’t have much experience with bad f2p models.
I guess it is good that free accounts won’t be able to use the map chat here.
It was not an annual event. And there is quite a difference between August 6th and May 20th in a calendar year.
As long as you created your account before January 23rd (I think) 2015, you will get your veteran character slot within 10 days maximum.
If it doesn’t appear after that, I would contact support.
And then trolls would make human walls blocking off entrances to towers and the like.
I would also find that collision would make combat more stiff and clunky, not having nearly as much freedom of movement. The combat just doesn’t seem fit for GW2 to have player collision with other players.
But that’s just my opinion.
A quick update on this one -> After feedback from presenting the original hero point count – we decided getting to level 80 will give you enough hero points to unlock all the core skills and traits entirely. Doing hero challenges (aka skill challenges) will simply allow you to earn all the skills/traits earlier before level 80. With the release of HoT, there will be options to spend the excess hero points earned from doing hero challenges in the world.
There are a number of other changes on 6/23 to make the experience from 1-80 more exciting, better-paced, rewarding, and fun as well after having the time to evaluate and player feedback from the updates last year.

That is awesome to hear! I was worried I would lose 20% of skills on most of my characters that didn’t do any world completion, but that comment is reassuring now, – looking forward to it!
InterviewAfter the announcement of HoT, many players were concerned that the old game content would be left in the dust. Unfortunately, that is partially true. But Johanson wanted to reassure players that even though there is a lot of focus on the new HoTness, events like Halloween will still continue and patches will still come to the old game. Johanson believes that there will be plenty to do in the old game for free players. – Source
So Halloween will still be running this year, but as to whether it is before or after the release of HoT, we don’t know yet. It is possible it might be dropped alongside the expansion.
There is no such thing as “decreased returns”, only luck – I have been playing for nearly 3 years, and have only ever had one drop from a mob.
With that said, Heart of Thorns is introducing a new method of acquiring precursors; through that of a tyria mastery scavenger hunt which will award a specific precursor after completing each one.
Although, these scavenger hunts can only be completed once per type of precursor, so you will only get one of each type.
They converted Skill Points into Spirit Shards, and Skill Point challenges into Hero Point challenges, so you still have Hero Points which you will be using to unlock and complete your Elite Specialization.
Since you are given enough Hero Points at level 80 to maximize your core Training, any extra Hero Point challenges you complete will go forward to unlocking your Elite Speciliazation come the release of HoT.
Whatever happens in the next update, it will be about what is inside that hole the drill is working on.
Not 100% correct.
It will be about to go on the drill. There is an arena and plattforms where we probably will kill scarlet.
Then that wouldn’t be a very fitting ending to Season 1 that will ‘rock Tryria to its core’.
Likewise to Season 1, Season 2 of the living story will be delivered (more or less) on 2-week updates of content for free, as long as you log in during those 2 weeks. As such, each update will be, metaphorically, a small piece of a puzzle which will over time create a completed puzzle.
If you want an expansion sized amount of content, I recommend you log-in for 30 seconds when each update arrives, store up all of the updates, and then play through it all when the last update of Season 2 ships. That should give you a plethora of content reasonable to that of a regular MMO expansion – and for free.
I would hug you, if only there were an emote for it.
If you had suggested this some months ago, I would not have agreed to a token system. However, with the recent wallet changes that allow for new currencies to be added easily, I don’t see the trouble in adding a new currency that will allow players over time to finally get the item they are looking for.
Of course, if too many new currencies are added, it will make the game feel a little more grindy no matter how it is implemented.
guild wars just lost a long time customer for making this game free to play and placing restrictions on accounts, i have played this for 3 years your vets are getting the shaft in this free to play game
I am a veteran, I don’t feel I am getting “the shaft”.
If you are leaving because Anet introduced a severely restricted free-to-play GW2 account for players to test the game and buy the full edition if they like it, then I hope you find an MMO that suits you and isn’t already free-to-play (might be searching a while).
Sorry if this was answered but I didn’t find it in my searching.
Is it possible to purchase a physical copy of HoT and still receive the pre-purchase bonuses? namely the free character slot?
Any purchase of the expansion, physical or digital, will reward the free character slot for ‘veteran’ players (having an account before January 23rd), and the additional items (including another slot) for the deluxe edition upwards.
Basically, you will be given a code when you the expansion from anywhere, and you use that code and apply it to your account to get the bonuses – all codes should give you the bonuses depending on what version of the expansion you paid for.
An example of where you can get the physical edition is from Amazon UK.

1 – Will it go beyond DX9?
2 – Would it survive by remaining DX9?
3 – Windows 10 coming out in 2 day is Direct 12 encluded.
4 – How high should the next X Pack go without looking kitten?
1 – That is up to Anet to decide. If they find that spending resources there will benefit them more than take away, they are more likely to do it. Otherwise, the game still looks brilliant graphical wise, and so an update to DirectX may not be necessary.
2 – Yes.
3 – Included in Windows 10? Or for GW2? If the latter, no.
4 – I don’t know about you, but the upcoming maps look pretty dang impressive and beautiful, without any upgrade to higher DirectX. I’ve played a couple of other MMO’s that don’t look nearly as sharp as GW2, even with higher DirectX enabled.
That song title is surprisingly apt for the Verdant Brink “night” phase.
I know that the developers stated a while back that the night time we experience in beta is an early iteration of the one ready for release, but as this is the final beta weekend, part of me is worrying that some aspects won’t be too different (at least in terms of atmosphere):
The lighting should be much darker and grimacing, the sound design should be given priority over music and the mobs should be more challenging (although there has been a mysterious nerf for the mobs in this beta, so that shouldn’t be an issue for release). As there has been such a large emphasis on supposed “survival” when night hits and that players should be facing a far greater challenge, I have yet to actually experience this feeling, nor feel alert that I could be attacked at any moment.
Of course this is my opinion though, so I am sure some like the atmosphere in its current state, but I would just like to know how different is the night we are experiencing in beta from the one we will experience at launch?
(Side note: I’m loving the beta so far and I’m looking forward to the 23rd, but I just hope the developers are hiding more aspects of the map for launch to surprise us. At the moment though, Verdant Brink isn’t that exciting outside of its gorgeous level design)
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. They killed Drooburt! Prepare to be kittenned Mordremoth!!
(The big question is, where did all that money he collected go?)
Why did you create a new thread when you already had one open that answered your question perfectly?
Thanks, then if someone new will buy HoT, then that person will get standard Gw2 and expansion yes?
Correct, as long as they are buying from the GW2 website or from the updated list of sellers such as Amazon, as there are still some copies of solely the base game out there in retailers.
Definitely need some more incentive to encourage players to actually look everywhere for survivors.
Unfortunately, that is not possible.
When you pre-purchase Heart of Thorns, you are given a single code; you can either apply that to an existing account and it will be upgraded to the expansion, or use it to create a new account which will have access to the core game and the expansion.
There is no possibility to give the “core game” to someone else as you will only get the single code.
It’s a skin for something that is not available yet.
Don’t worry, when you double-clicked it, you simply added it to a skin collection for something that will be unlocked with the release of HoT, so it wasn’t destroyed.
The glider will be part of the mastery system coming with HoT, which will allow you to glide through the new maps that come with the expansion. You will be able to change the appearance of your glider, which is what that skin is.

I think all chat colours should be customizable in the options settings. That would solve all issues here; those that want to change the colours, and those that want them to remain the same.
Any class can be viable for any dungeon in the vast majority of cases. However, it is unfortunately more often than not that some players will be less inclined to accept one or two professions, which are commonly the necromancer and ranger (though, that doesn’t mean those two professions will never be allowed to run dungeons; I run dungeons on my ranger regularly).
As for WvW, any class is perfectly acceptable. If you want a larger role in WvW though, Guardian’s have a lot more usage with their shouts and good AoE stability which is perfect for groups. Elementalist Meteor Shower is also a good one for destroying siege that is tucked away on walls.
So really, I recommend you play the class you are most interested in, as any class will be able to do all types of content. It will only be some of the players that may stop you in regard to dungeons, but you can always avoid those types of players. If you need any more information on the professions, you can read about some of them here.
And of course, welcome to Tyria!
Keep in mind that free accounts cannot mail items or coin to any other account, so using a free account to benefit their core stolen accounts is pretty much impossible to do. However, free accounts have some access to the Trading Post, so they could run it through there if they are desperate.
I doubt we will be seeing private overflow farm servers, and if they do become common, Anet can get polish the Legendary ban-hammer.
In a strange sort of way, tonics could be considered a form of “trading card” in this game; you can trade (most of) them, battle with them and get rewards (well, achievements) for doing so.
