Some people don't like hard mode

The same problem that exists with nearly everything else in the game, is also here. That is, why do the content if I can just do the best farm and buy it?

Because apparently more challenging content is more fun for a number of people (or so we are told, quite forcefully, on other threads) so wouldn’t you do content because it’s fun? Why on earth would somebody deliberately give themselves a less fun experience if there were no difference in reward between the more and less fun options?

Either the “more challenging content” crowd actually mean that they want more/better loot; or they find challenging game play a reward in itself. It’d be nice if people were a bit more honest about which of those options is true.

trickster mesmer with on death clone effects have been removed completely. This type of mesmer often relied on tricking people into attacking the wrong clone. Picking and killing the wrong mesmer resulted in various negative effects.

Yes, my trickster build is currently dead in the water. It relied on clones spreading conditions when active, and then dealing several conditions when killed; the only time I ever currently use shatter is if I know I can get 3 clones back immediately without blowing all my dodges. There’s also Chaotic Dampening as the staff recharge trait only being effective if you have chaos shield active … thus giving away which one of you is the real mesmer … so can’t use that one then. For the duelling line I’d be very happy to sacrifice my inflict conditions on destruction traits for the three minor traits but I’m not interested in the adept or master traits. I’ve noticed a few of the skills actually seem to defy synergy … rather than being a trade-off they say “hey these two skills really complement each other … shame you can’t use them both” troll to the player. For example metaphysical rejuvenation (gain regeneration when health drops below 75%) and illusionary membrane (gain protection when you gain regeneration) look as though they should be in the same line but not at the same level (eg. one at minor, one at adept) whereas in fact they are both adept skills in the chaos line.

Frankly, if they’d let us select minors in adept, master, and grandmaster slots then quite a few of my personal issues would melt away.

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: binidj.5734

binidj.5734

As with so many others, the new content is beautiful and fun and would have had me playing for hours and hours just for the joy of it … and possibly grinding some cool skins.

But the the gear treadmill that alienated me from so many MMOs in the past is raising it’s ugly head in a game where I felt sure I would never see it.

I loved that getting top-tier gear was so easy in this game, it meant that I could level alts without feeling that I was missing out on any content with my “main” and that the GearScore horrors of “another game” were left far behind me.

However the game I loved hasn’t changed and I’ll keep playing it, but come paid expansion time if I’ve been left behind on the treadmill then I will have zero incentive to part with any more money.

The solution is simple, reduce Ascended stats to be completely level with Exotics or (and I think this is a better option) dump the notion of Ascended entirely and give us agony resist upgrade items (with no additional stats) to slot into our jewellery.

Quite enjoyed playing GS Reaper (knights gear, scholar runes), damage felt pretty solid but the chill was pointless as it didn’t seem to affect anything I was fighting … even bats were flapping out of range of me! Chill duration needs to be increased by quite a lot I think. At the moment, dagger/warhorn is a far superior combination than just using a greatsword; and that’s a crying shame because I really want to like greatsword.

So Arena Net promised not to add better dungeons or gear? Meaning once you hit 80 zero progression at all?

Yep. And some people actually think that’s a good idea. Kind of sad, really.

And yet, knowing that, you paid for the game. Why would you buy a game you thought was sad?

Those who bought it knowing that it was horizontal progression did so because a number of them (like myself) have run on the gear treadmills of other games for more years than some players have been alive and are, quite frankly, tired of it.

Fuzzy Animal Hats

in Last Stand at Southsun

Posted by: binidj.5734

binidj.5734

Well let’s go from the sublime: The riding trousers and boots are some of the best-looking medium leg and foot items in the game in terms of looking “in-keeping” and yet they are town clothes only.

To the ridiculous: The legendary pistol (the only option) is a squeaking, hooting, party-gun that, to my mind, if it fitted any thieves or engineers at all it would be a tiny minority; the “disco-ball” mace is much the same.

There are ludicrous items that can be worn into battle and sensible items that can’t, I’m not sure you can say that one particular item is any worse than another. Frankly those people who want to look daft will be able to, panda-hat or no; it’d be nice to give people the option to mix and match more skins … even if you assigned an armour type to items worn outside of town.

2) Boss fight, extramally easy. Boss was down to 1/2 hp in the matter of seconds and was constantly under CC (I was playing alone, npcs did the CC). Suddenly the cutscene. Me and most of the NPC except 2, dissapear. One of the NPCs is shouting “Oh no, we can’t beat the boss, it is too hard”. Then the npc is standing in front of the boss. Boss hits it. After a while, another NPC breaks in and says: “Leave her alone”. And stands still. After several seconds, it shoots from pistol. Boss turns and approaches the NPC. Cutscene is over, Boss stands in 1 place, 2 NPC from cutscene in 2 other places. Me and rest of NPCs kill the boss in few secons. Then I saw this scene from screenshot. Sad music. And the txt: “Oh poor sam.” I guess he was supposed to die? But from what if the boss was no threat at all? And why we didn’t rez him? I was rezzing npcs all along the way… and during the boss fight, but not now?

This was, indeed, utterly ridiculous. I just can’t think of a means of fixing it, at least certain other deaths make some sort of sense … this was so poorly implemented that I was too angry at how little sense it made to feel anything at all for the NPC.

Mordrem Invasion Update: 11 September 12:30 PM

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: binidj.5734

binidj.5734

To address the issue of very little reward and characters tagging events and then running to the next in order to get their quota I have the following suggestion:

1. At the end of each event spawn a chest containing some blooms.
2. At the end of the meta-event (in addition to daily bonus) give blooms to all participants based on the number of events completed in the zone.

This will stop people tagging a few mobs and running off (because of the chest) and will give everyone a vested interest in completing as many events across the map as possible, breaking up the big zergs. It will also give people a decent number of blooms because surprise surprise we can’t all play 24 hours a day for the entire weekend!

Also please reactivate karma and exp for the events, it makes no sense that they have been removed.

One thing I’m finding is that it’s crazy difficult to actually get event credit when there’s a zerg at the event (trust me, I try to avoid them but the number of events is so small that unless you play out of hours you aren’t going to find a small pop event) because the mobs just melt. In scaling events please don’t buff mob damage but rather increase (significantly) mob numbers (ie. increase the frequency and distribution of the spawning globes) so that everyone gets a look in.

Finally, didn’t you learn from Southsun Cove not to do short duration events? Absolute base minimum duration of the invasion should be a week, not a weekend.

I would be bitterly disappointed of we get less playable area than one of the vanilla regions by which I mean, Ascalon, Kryta, Shiverpeaks, etc. and a comparable number of maps. From what I’ve seen, the triple-layered biomes don’t actually mean triple the land space, as there are kittening great gaps all over the place, making the three fit together a bit like a jigsaw. I am hoping that Verdant Brink is an extreme example and that other maps will have more conventionally traversable terrain in each biome.

I strongly suspect that I will in fact be bitterly disappointed.

Guild System Improvements

Officer of The Grey (Tarnished Coast & Piken Square)

Issues that are affecting our guild right now:

Guesting – We formed during Beta and it seemed at that point that guesting would be an intrinsic part of the game. Do please get a wiggle on and implement this sooner rather than later. This is something that crops up every day in our guild.

Last on – It is demoralising to see a large number of guild members offline and only a handful on. For all we know some of the people on our roster haven’t played the game past launch. All we as officers can know is that people haven’t been online when we’ve been on so we can’t be at all certain who is no longer playing and who is just playing during “dark” hours.

Representing or not – It would be nice if people not currently representing just didn’t appear on the guild roster. Although ours is a social guild, the effect that having multiple members flagged as not representing has a negative (and potentially exponential) effect on the morale of our active members. We don’t want to get shirty about non-representation but the current visibility means that we are having to in order to fend off further disintegration.

No more 'preview' for all armor types?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: binidj.5734

binidj.5734

Hey everyone. This is a fix that is working as intended. As these armor types were never designed to be worn together, it resulted in some graphic issues when previewing them.

The graphic issues with previewing non-wearable armour types were no more serious than the preview issues I have with the armour I can wear. The change seems wilful and ill-considered, I know this isn’t a game designed by committee but really at the moment it seems that ANet are actively trying to annoy the customer base by “fixing” bugs that either never really existed (preview panel) or which were beneficial to characters (Super Elixir), whilst long-standing features (Guesting) or bugs that affect characters negatively (underwater combat invulnerability/reset) appear to fall by the wayside.

If there were graphic issues with previewing non-wearable armours then why not fix the preview bugs rather than just disable it? I mean, this is probably a pretty low priority item on the list but honestly I’d rather have the bugged version than nothing at all.

[Suggestion] Bring back 1-time events

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: binidj.5734

binidj.5734

I remember the karka event too, when I pass the stone-encrusted ancient karka I always remember the time that I saw it happen. However I never want to see an event like that again, ever. Not because it wasn’t utterly memorable (it was) but because in making events so time-limited ArenaNet excludes a whole bunch of its players and creates bad feeling in the community. Also remember all the people who disconnected and couldn’t get back into one of the maps where the event had actually advanced? I’m fairly sure they wouldn’t want it back. Even I, who have quite fond memories of the event, tend to forget the slideshow combat as my FPS went into the realm of fractions and the waiting around defeated desperately hoping that someone would find you and rez you so that you wouldn’t have to start all over again on a new map.

What I treasure are the repeating events (like Halloween … especially the epic first one) which add content to the game which can be revisited (and built upon) for years to come. I like the sense of anticipation as the festival draws near, the redecoration of the cities, the madness as people run around completing the events. All without the pressure of a short duration event or the sinking feeling that with a one-time only currency, if you can’t afford the thing you want then you’ll have a bank slot cluttered up for the rest of time in the desperate hope that the event currency will return.

Essentially everything that the mordrem invasion wasn’t.

Stop putting skins in black lion chest

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: binidj.5734

binidj.5734

I agree, stop. I bought a LOT of keys, because I really wanted 3 fused weapons in particular. I did not get a single claim ticket. So I am done. I am not gonna buy another thing from the gem shop. If you just had to put the claim ticket in the black lion chest the least you could have done was make the drop rate not so dam low.

That’s not what I’m saying at all.

Buy stuff from the Gem Store, just don’t buy anything that is RNG-based; so no crates/keys, etc. It is only if the non-RNG things (like Rox’s Quiver or the Quaggan Backpack) sell better than the RNG items that NCSoft/Nexon will stop pushing them so hard.

I want to support this game, and I do … but I don’t want to support a mechanism that makes me enjoy the game less.

Of course the sad truth is that there are still goons out there with more money than sense who will blow £100 on Southsun Chests and then complain that they didn’t get a weapon skin.

So you want elite spec unlocked right away?

Yes.

With all skins unlocked as well including all new legendaries? billions of each mats in the bank? All maps unlocked with an instant teleport to wherever you want option? Dev Menu? OHKO button? Cheat mode?

No.

I don’t even remember anyone crying at GW2 release because they didn’t have all their skills and weapons unlocked right away.

Correct me if I’m wrong but the new Maguuma zones are pitched at level 80 characters? However they are also the only zones where you can effectively gain the hero points to get your traits and skills to the point that they should be on a level 80 character. So, in order to complete the level 80 content (without leeching), you need to do so with your current spec and then switch to your elite when you have sufficient points to be productive. So that’s not unlike levelling one character in order to play another in content you’ve already completed … and that’s just odd.

How in the world do I deal with Retaliation?

As a mesmer I try to ensure I have chaos armor on me at all times. When an enemy hits me with chaos armor on they can get 1 stack of confusion. If they have retaliation and continue to hit me the retaliation from the confusion ticks hits me like a truck.

How does this force me to play better?

I like the idea of retaliation but the execution is just bad.

Really? Retaliation works on Confusion? Well if that’s the case why on earth doesn’t Confusion work on Retaliation? I’d love to see Mesmers and Guardians edging nervously away from each other, with the occasional pair of smoking boots when one or other had got careless. =)

In all seriousness if Retaliation does work on indirect attacks like Confusion then that is a broken mechanic.
