Ah this post again, think how WvW and PvP players feel they are forced to grind pve for any Legendary and it takes a lot longer than 8 hrs max of WvW.
Two wrongs don’t make a right.
But it’s also not fair to make it so that PvE players can make a legendary without going into a mode they don’t like but at the same time not allow the WvW player who doesn’t like PvE to bypass PvE in order to make the legendary. That’s what BlaqueFyre is alluding to. It always seems like it’s the PvE players complaining about WvW requirements when I’ve yet to see a single thread started by a WvW player complaining about being forced to PvE.
Im sorry but, its not the WvWers complaining here, its the PvE guys moaning about a little bit of WvW and making these threads, but as soon as anyone who does not enjoy PvE counters anything about legendary’s and how we dont enjoy having to spent silly amount of time in PvE you get all defensive, and try and spin off to make it look like its us complaining.
And how do you think the WvW players feel about map completing PvE to get their Gift of Exploration?
Unless you wish to make a legendary weapon that was released after HoT, there is a means to get a legendary without stepping a foot into WvW: buying one straight off of the TP.
One should research how to make something before starting it.
However, I do think giving a PvP track for the Gift of Battle would be a good alternative means to do so given that players can now use legendary skins in PvP.
Wat u mean when say this? Eureka ab.. can’t on tp buy. Nor is GoE being require. So just GoB but explore only hot so yes.
(hes right to say so)
and what hard for explore hot? not entire world but just handful of annoying maps
We are still forced to PvE for any legendary and it takes longer than the 8 hours maximum that it takes for anyone to obtain GoB, but The players that make these threads and defend them don’t care that others are forced into game modes they don’t like for even longer to get the same items.
This is a ridiculous statement. I’m not a WvWer, why would I suggest more WvW friendly legendaries? That’s up to you ppl, not PvErs. The topic at hand is that the reward track is a pain. It’s long and boring and I’m still not actually being useful there. If you feel you should have WvW only legendaries by all means make your own topic about it, but there’s rly no need for this salty bitter QQ about how heartless we PvErs are.
Legendaries were originally designed to require all Game modes to complete, we as WvW players and pvp players have asked time and again to get access to Legendaries without farming gamemodes we don’t enjoy. All they do is add more Legendaries that require Pve, so I have no sympathy for you having to spend 8 hours in WvW to complete a legendary. Just saying you don’t care that other don’t like you game mode but have to grind it for a lot longer time and only want your preferred method of play to be validated…. so get over it you only need to ark for 8 hrs in WvW per legendary and be done with it.

Hmmm, it always makes me laugh that people are so blinded to think that only their preferred game mode should be how to earn a legendary, ever thought about how people on the other side of the fence feel? people like myself who dont enjoy PvE but are forced to complete the whole tyria world , which takes hell of a lot more than 8 hours for a WvW reward track, but you seem happy enough to let us have to sit through that grind, strange…
Do you need gift of battle to play this game these days?
To play the game, no. To make a legendary, yes.
and are you forced to make a legendary in order to play the game these days?
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
Ah this post again, think how WvW and PvP players feel they are forced to grind pve for any Legendary and it takes a lot longer than 8 hrs max of WvW.
Do you need gift of battle to play this game these days?
Yep. It’s mandatory- if you don’t earn a gift of battle within 100 hours of playing, you are instaported to WvW on log-in until you do.
Btw for anyone saying they are trying to get you to stop playing for awhile:
You have to be online for 30 min on the character, your DR won’t go away by being offline, so you are not playing less you actually end up playing more
If DR hits after 1 hour, isn’t that a good thing considering we’re actually meant to be taking a 5-10 minute break from computer games for every hour we play? All you kind of have to do to reset DR is log off and back on again really, or change character. It’s not that big a deal.
I should have the abillity to decide when I want to spend my time playing, the game shouldn’t dictate my game time e.e
and DR doesn’t get removed by going offline, you have to be ingame for it to go off.
Okay guys let’s just get this out of the way..
Fact: DR does lower the amount of ToT bags dropped from mobs significantly after around an hour of play (it’s around the same time the exotic bags stop dropping from boss mobs). It’s not clear that this is happening to everyone after an hour. What if DR is exactly the same and based not on time but on number of identical mobs tagged within a period of time within a particular map area?
This year, nearly everyone has specializations, there is much more community awareness how to tag efficiently, a few people know how to CC quickly, and the zerg races around nearly as quickly as the game would allow if there were no mobs. That means: we defeat the used-to-be-tough bosses more quickly and more people are able to tag more foes in more events more often.
Further, more of us have true autolooting this year compared to last and we all have salvage-all, so managing inventory is also much, much more efficient.
In other words, some of us hit DR more quickly because we’re actually farming much more efficiently than in past years. And DR has always been designed to put a cap on how quickly people can inhale resources from the aether, since it’s primarily an anti-botting tool.
In other words, what if ANet didn’t change a thing; we’re just a lot faster than we were before?
Regardless, there remain easy work-arounds:
- Swap characters.
- Leave the zone to clear bags out and do something else for 5-15 min.
You’ll still end up earning around a stack of ToTs per hour, just not 1.5 stacks/hour. That’s still 12.5 gold/hour from ToTs alone at the end of the festival (when prices will probably be ~5s/bag) and worth up to 50g/hour if you sell in 9-11 months
Yes, but if you can work around it like that, why even have it? Last years lab was just as bad.
There has been no new content other than lab which DR could interfere with in the same way (as far as I am aware), until Bloodstone Fen came out and there Cleric farm works the same way with DR and it does nothing to stop people from farming it just makes the experience more annoying. (Because of ML and how the new event maps were set up DR haven’t really been a factor)
DR is the same as DRM trying to interfere with Pirate downloads, it does not work. It’s the same way, it restricts legitimate players/costumers, because of illigal activity but it does nothing to those people doing illigal things, sure it might delay them a bit, but they will work around it.
It’s just worse with DR because here the price actually goes up on the item being farmed because it can put people off doing the content and therefore the loss the Bot owners/gold sellers would have taken, from taking a break because of the DR, is nulled.
So what I am trying to say is; It interferes with the legitimate player trying to have a Whole Experience without that experience being all chuncky, as going afk for 15 min in LA andchanging character does (why would you restrict people from playing their main?) and all these impeding mechanics, for what? Going after the bad guy by burning the whole city to the ground?
Be it an hour or 3 hours, DR, it’s just a bad game philosophy.
I would rather have them actually try to counter the goldsellers, than having a system that hurts legitimate players.

Just try and go into Lab with a character that has not been in lab and see how the loot drops a lot more than on your other chars and then see how it drastically becomes less and less
Also waiting for DR to disapear makes your really sour when you are using magic find booster and a third of it is wasted just waiting in LA or doing small events.
So people please stop defending DR as if it’s good it is not. It makes the gameplay and farm less enjoyable.
I love the game but when Anet does something that is horrendously stupid, I won’t just go “Oh but it’s okay because you can just go do events or wait in LA to reset” that is just dumb excuses people make to justify Anets actions.. You don’t make good gameplay by limiting people from doing what they like to do.
Don’t be a sheep.

The prices are extremely weird. At first, things cost a few cobs. Then around 10 cobs. This year? 100+ cobs. That’s pretty significant.
Honestly, not everyone has a spare two hours to wait for diminishing returns to kick in for another hour of running the lab. Some people put kids to bed and have two hours to do event stuff. I guess we should quit expecting festivals to be for fun.
This is a direct result of people who hoard candy corn all year and can afford to have dozens of cobs worth of candy corn before the halloween event even starts. They complain about nothing to work towards and ANet listens to them by increasnig the price of everything. Its not the best strategy, but at least there is a decent-ish amount of variety in the prices this year.
So, since a minority hoard candy corn for the entire year, Anet correspondingly increased the candy corn requirement for the majority? Sounds like the worst move I’ve ever seen.

Because we can’t be angry about both?
TBH, I disagree with all this. Its part of the game. You can’t just skip parts of the game. Its a story. When you re-watch a star wars movie, do you complain to the producers there’s a 5 minute dialogue scroll at the start of the movie?
no, of course you don’t.
And why would you, because you can skip it! right! just like you can fast forward a movie’s intro, you can fast forward the intro of the chapters. The reason they added the map travel token to a merchant in the map is so that the player has to experience the event AT LEAST once before they can fast forward it.
Put a message on guild tab about kicking inactive players after a fixed amount of time.
As for representing its pretty clear cut. You either have a full representation system or no mandatory representation at all.Generally guilds that dont require representation tend to fall on the sidelines over time.
I completely disagree about representation needing to be full representation. I represent a guild voluntarily while taking part in guild activities and take turns representing them while soloing. I have quit several guilds after finding out they required 100% rep.
There are number of items in the gemstore I’m indifferent to. In each case I didn’t make a forum thread about it because I figured no one would care.
You can’t compare temple events to hero challenges. Because those are not parallel. Temple events are meta events, like VB’s night phase or Tarir’s defense. The actual hero challenges in Orr are fairly simple.
Well someone could say that you can’t compare magguma Hero Challenge to Tyrian’s because they are worth 10 time more points, so it would make sense that they take more time or be more challenging to complete than the Tyrian’s one.
You only need 648 hero points to unlock everything on your character. You gain 398 just by leveling to 80 and there is 200 point in Tyria from challenge. That leave you only 50 pts left or 5 Magguma hero challenge to complete. There is far more than 5 easy single player hero challenge in magguma.
What I think is the problem is that people don’t want to complete 205 easy hero challenge, they complain because they would prefer to only do 25 hero challenge that give 10 pts each.
My warrior that I rarely ever play anymore is sitting on 364 spare hero points. I actually think devs made too quick of a decision on reducing the elite spec requirements. I actually find it mind boggling people are still finding it hard to get the hero points they need.
If this is a map competition related, consider https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Notarized_Scroll_of_Maguuma_Heroics

The main issue is the emote range. Say chat’s range limit is fine, but the emote one goes waaaaaaay farther than Say. As Donari said, a lot of problems would be solved if the emote range were made a lot shorter. As it is now, you can be a ridiculous distance away from the RP players and still “hear” the emote text.
I was going to reply about the subject but this is what I was going to say. If emote was short range as local/say chat AND names in emotes were interactable with those right-click option we wouldn’t have such issues (why isn’t the former a thing? Why can’t names in emotes be a link? If the issue is the formatting it can still be a gray text but an interactable link).
Hey, I don’t want to punish them (though having /emote fixed so we CAN report someone would be awesome.) I just want a way to remove the blocks of text that doesn’t hinder my general gameplay.
Turning off /map, /say and /emote is basically locking yourself away from the world, just to avoid people who are a bit too into the game.
Blocking them just for being themselves seems unfair – also, it’s not inconceivable that at some point they’ll have useful input, instead of just just spamming the chats.
Other than “it would take effort”, I don’t see why having a new selection of /Roleplay, that limits anything in it to itself is such a big deal.
Yes, this is true. If you find the content offensive, not because you don’t like any roleplaying, but because a certain segment of roleplaying is crossing the line into sexually-related content, abusive chat, truly “offensive” content in the standard definition of the word, then use the in-game report system, please, and the team will review.
How do we use the in game report system for /me?
You’d have to run around the area to find where the player is, then right-click their character and select the report option. For explicit/offensive chat, verbal abuse should be the correct category.
For something that appears in the chat screen, there’s no need to find the player. You simply right click the name in the chat window, and report.
You can’t right-click a name via emote though, but you could temporarily add that character name to your friends/block list, then right-click and report from there. Or just see if they said something earlier in /say
It’s very difficult to do so if the character has any exotic characters or something like IIIIIIIIIlllllIIIIIIIII. In any case, it’s evident that this is a weakness that trolls are exploiting. Also if you zone in, then you might not even catch a lot of their crap before.
On a side note, I do suggest people without an Airship Pass to go to Rata Sum! :p The RP’ing here seems much more mild, or at least I’ve never seen anything bad and a lot of the stuff is conveniently placed, much better than the nonsense that is LA at least. And the home instance has somewhat sensible node placement.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
Did you just type that while misquoting that other post in a less than flattering fashion?
I hope you have no glass in your house.
Misquote what? “That other post” is very descriptive.
Uhh… obviously the text that was quoted in my post?? There was total of 2 quotes in my previous post, connect the dots on which “the other post” could possibly mean.
Or at least I can’t find where penelopehannibal.8947 typed “blah blah blah”
Snip: Repeated blah, blah, blah.
Snip: Repeated delusion about the mass RP hate on this thread.
I give up on the rest, I’m off to go RP.
When I click on the post link, https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Something-MUST-be-done-about-the-RP-in-DR/page/2#post6355060 it goes to a post that looks nothing like what you quoted.
Dude, you are trippin’. I didn’t quote you anywhere on this thread. I looked at each of my posts and yours. No misquoting of you. No mentioning of you. No interaction with you. So again, WTH are you talking about?
And if you read when I responded to penelopehannibal.8947 as I did, it was in response to his intentional, snarky misquoting of me saying “Something about lumps.” It was an in kind reply, not a misquote.
RPers don’t bother me, but as someone else mentioned, wouldn’t an RP exclusive channel be a good thing for everyone?
Non-RP people could filter RP out and RP people could have their own channel to talk and not be bothered by all the non-RP chat.
Win-win IMO.
Yes and No. Yes because RPer’s could hook-up and organize better without emoting others to death. No because Rpers have always been a “targeted group” to be grieved by those that think wrecking other peoples game play gives them first seat on the short bus…
Such a channel would have to have moderators, which I’m all for.
I agree that RPers are a targeted group. They get targeted in say chat as well. They are going to get targeted irregardless. It is a shame, but it is going to happen unfortunately because there are always hateful people out there.
What I see here is a lot of people on both sides getting all bent out of shape for the suggestion of creating such a channel. Who cares? Use it or not. Is having one more option really that horrible? With a few exceptions, I see very few people asking that this new channel be created and all role players be exiled to RP on that channel only. If they are, then there is a problem.
because if they’re going to use resources to help RP, do it right or just don’t bother at all.
It begs the question of what is “right”. I read over the earlier suggestion about formatting cues in /emote, but all that does is make it easier to spam text blocks, which completely misses the OP’s complaint, which is the nuisance factor of large blocks of potentially-cringe-inducing text showing up via /emote.
The most convenient solutions ANet can deliver is smaller emote range and clickable names to make block/reports easier. Which would suit me just fine.
But, the suggestion does have me thinking what a really cool, very robust chat interface would look like. Something that would really encourage roleplayers to do what they do and have the tools to make it more interesting.
And if ANet needs a financial incentive, roleplayers are the ones probably more likely to buy extra character slots for character concepts over system builds and buy cosmetic items like outfits, possibly to suit a specific character. Just sayin’.
So I’d propose an actual interface, an actual Roleplaying Panel, on the same row as the PvP and WvW icons. It would be a place for:
- better emote/writing structure, including longer text buffers and formatting shortcuts
- range limited visibility so RP groups on the same map don’t talk over each other
- a way to find other RPers by acknowledging who is listed as Active and Open (instead of Private) and keeping Public RP visible in the chat window
- better report tools and more enforceable standards on content, so trolls actually get the ban hammer
- an option to mask names within the RP Panel so players can represent their own ‘NPCs’ in storylines without having to make alternates
It’s all stuff that a simple re-tooling of a chat window isn’t cut out for, and it’s a tool I’d love to see in place for roleplayers to make the most of their experience.

Also if you’re concerned about realism/immersion remember that these are fake cat ears on a headband (as are the bunny ears), just like the ones you can buy in all kinds of real-life shops around Halloween. (If you’re in a country that doesn’t celebrate Halloween just take my word for it, these things are everywhere.)
Considering Tyria has a tradition of celebrating Halloween, which includes dressing up, it’s no more inappropriate there than in real life.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
…Can’t tell if you’re serious or just wanted to see how many cat puns you could fit in a single post.
Also, this is a horrible idea.
Kinda why people are suggesting a /rp chat option, though. This way if you like to look into it, you can enable it, and if you don’t, you can disable it.
You can already do this.
And then excessive use of /me and RP-related content in non-rp chat can be seen as spamming, and constant use of unrelated talk in the middle of someone’s rp monologue while in /rp can be seen as interfering/spamming as well.
So basically, you want to be given the moral highground to rule over /me and /say? Because RPers would and should still utilize it if they deem it relevant.
So if it’s enabled by default, nothing changes in respects to getting new people into /rp, and quite honestly, the only people upset by the options are just people who want to be the center of attention of people who honestly currently do not give a kitten .
I’d assume some RPers would be upset because they’d request more tools to aid in RP like emotes, filters and chat organization tool, not a channel they’ll get reported for not using 100% of the time.
I’d personally prefer the devs keep the status quo instead of /rp if only because if they’re going to use resources to help RP, do it right or just don’t bother at all. Apparently, RPers are happy enough without added reasons to alienate, report and shun them further.
To clarify what appears to be misunderstanding the point is to isolate /me in the form of RP without affecting /me for general purposes. I.E., the /me command would be usable within the /RP chat option and only show within the /rp option, rather than default global chat. You can currently disable all emotes, no more, no less. What non-RP players are asking for is a way to block out the RP without simply disabling emotes and say chat, since those have value for other communities as well. Not so much just a separate chat channel but an entire filter based on whether or not said channel is activated. It’d effectively be a chat subset.
I’m not stating this as strict benefits to RP players but rather how both sides would likely see benefit. The separation here would offer fewer reasons for other players to isolate and report RP’ers; whatever happens in RP chat stays in RP chat, and then players who aren’t interested either disable it or have no right to report (within reason due to subject nature), since they’d need to be in the RP chat to begin with to see it. This cuts down on the frustrations from both sides where you have people reporting RP’ers for spamming or crude comments while non-RP’ers ruin the immersion of RP without being able to be told off for interrupting, since RP lacks its own ability to shut up say the normal say chat of those intervening.
The only reason why anyone should feel abject to this is exhibitionists wanting to showcase their RP to the entire world, which like I said, for an objective majority of players, do not care about. So what difference does this actually make aside from allowing the stopping of nuisances on both sides?
