Man this thread with the other makes me laugh. Not a dig at any specific person but…

“We’d like to thank our Gw1 players, go make them a small token prize to mark them, but don’t do anything that big to create an advantage”
“Ok, so no gear or too many boosters or anything. Any in game items will feel like it’s biased. Let’s just give them a sticker shaped like a gold star”
“Hey, guys, for your work in Gw1, you get this gold star”
(Most sane people) “Yay!”
“Dude, that’s totally not fair, I want that gold star too”
“But you didn’t play Gw1”
“YEA BUT ITS NOT FAIR”
“It’s just a gold star”
“I DONT CARE I WANT IT”
“You do realize if this star didn’t exist, you’d never would have wanted it. This game has lasted almost a year without it. You only want it because you see other people with it. "
“You suck! I’m quitting!”
….
" Dude this star is lame, I did more! I want my star to be bigger"

Developer: T_T I never realized we had 3rd graders in our audience.
Developer 2: Let’s just send them a postcard next time.
[Repeat same situation but with a postcard]

The retroactive rewards for achievement points are supposedly gated at one tier per day, and the first weapon unlock is tier 2 (IIRC), so the earliest we’ll start seeing people’s screenshots is tomorrow.

Dulfy has a gallery of some of the weapons to tide us over, though!

If you don’t like WvW, then there are a lot of achievement points (not titles, those are practically impossible in a game’s lifespan to obtain) you wont be getting.

Yes, but they are all neatly tucked away in the WvW tab, which I politely ignore, and are not sitting there mocking me on the LS tab, where I’ll likely get all the other achievments without much trouble.

Oh, and I play on a Tier 1 server, where our competitors have 24/7 coverage. A 10 man group trying to get through during Sky Pirates was insufficient to overcome the gankerfest.

And to be clear, if they added a section of the LS achievements that were all WvW or PvP focused, and had a meta achievement to wrap all of those together, I’d be perfectly fine. Having a meta achievement that 90% PvE, but you have to go WvW, is just obnoxious.

Hey there Jabberwock!

I’d like to clarify this for you and everyone else: Once you have unlocked the quartz node, it will unlock the node for all your characters, though the node can only be mined once per day per account.

Additionally, the node will appear in all home instances (again it is the same node so only once per day).

This means you can log onto any character you want, go to any home instance you want, and mine your node.

Redefining the glass cannon (updated build)

As i first laid eyes on the leaked patch notes, i knew i would be making this build… it took me a few days to perfect it, and a lot more days to actual record and edit it, but i have remade my initial glass cannon guide…

Guild Wars 2 – redefining the glass cannon necromancer (perfected tutorial)

I have finally find a way by which people that are looking for a shorter version of the entire guide can now have what they want.
At the same time people that want to hear the whole story, how and why everything was designed this way… they can, within the same video.

I have also went further in depth then ever before with the explications behind my decisions on why this particular combination of skills, traits, utilities and damage rotation… by adding a proof of concept in terms of math calculations of the actual DPS over a benchmark of 30 seconds.

FINAL STATS:

3501 Power (+875 from 25 stacks of might)
51-54% Critical Strike Chance (100% Critical Strike Chance while in Death Shroud)
106-110% Critical Strike Damage
1934 Armor
19372 Health
10% Boon Duration
————
+ the ability to act as a debuffer – by adding up to 24 stacks of vulnerability on a target
+ up to 75% overall damage increases
+ the ability to have amazing DPS even while having a DPS uptime of 100% = highest overall DPS
+ the ability to stack 25 stacks of might on your own

This new way of doing things, while it is a great effort… has brought me a “burst” of positive feedback in the day since i uploaded the video… so i really hope you guys enjoy as well.

If i missed anything or if you have any questions feel free to comment here, on in the comment section on youtube.

Enjoy

All these new topics about Achievements

in Bazaar of the Four Winds

Posted by: Nikkinella.8254

Nikkinella.8254

I love how all these new topics have suddenly started popping up now ever since they announced that achievement points would unlock new content. And they all basically say the same thing. They want to limit the achievement points you get from doing certain things, some even suggest removing points already gained from doing dailies and such to “make it more fair for newer players”. Such BS. Do they really think we’re that stupid? All are thinly veiled attempts for the “leet” players to stay top dog and prevent more people from getting the same shinies they have so they can feel special. You aren’t fooling anyone. If achievement points were really that important to you, you would have made these topics months ago BEFORE they announced you’d get exclusive rewards for it. You all just want to wave your kitten at everyone in town and say “i’m better than you because I have something you don’t!” And I love how all of them try to make some excuse at how it will “balance things out”. It’s fine the way it is now.

Most of the things they are suggesting are ridiculous and would actually prevent a lot of people from getting anything. I spend maybe 6 hours a day playing, most of that time spent in WvW and occasionally do a dungeon with some friends. I don’t have like 10k points like some of the people who are suggesting these asinine changes. I think i’m about 100 shy of 5k. Which is maybe 2 to 3 times more than what a lot of people I’ve seen have in WvW. Anyone can tell you the amount of points you get from doing mostly just PvP related stuff is small. You’re welcome by the way for all the bonuses you get in PvE from crap we capture in WvW.

Not only would your foolish, selfish suggestions screw over PvPers, but screw over newer players as well, even though you claim the changes you want are for the benefit of newer players who missed out on dailies. In conclusion, don’t fix what isn’t broken!

Achivement Points.

Playing a game everyday is an achievement. For those who can spare the time each day to collect them I say give it to them that’s the reason they are giving you achievement points in the first place for them.

anet wants people to log in everyday having them not count is counter productive.

This game is not a spitting contest let people have their guaranteed rewards. To much in this game already is not guaranteed and luck based.

How we communicate is everything, those truly out there to train, teach, and share knowledge will take the time to review their form and style of communication to reach the largest audience. For example, L&D basics tell us to deliver training material in Visual, Audio and Kinesthetic means. If someone delivers in only one style they are not taking into consideration the audience’s needs.

The same applies when sharing info on a communal forum for the betterment of the community, try to deliver your content in a way that will reach the majority of people and not the minority. And always attempt to stay away from indirect pronoun statements, as they will the majority of the time, be taken in the wrong context.

Delivering cryptic content only serves the individual delivering it, as anyone who does not understand the cryptic content could feel cheapened, stupid, and a myriad of other negative emotions, not a message I would want to deliver to individuals when trying to help and share knowledge.

Lets break down the initial post:

First it states its a PSA, giving the reader a belief that this will be a post to assist and inform.

It then opens up with “I find your ignorance amusing…” Which of course is a direct attack on the individual reading the post, since there has been no referent to the pronoun made at any stage.

We then continue with a base equation that has no valid backing, and moving onto a “your welcome” showing an expectant request from the reader that after being fooled into the post, belittled and then given a half displayed equation that they should be thankful and of course creating a pre-disposed requirement to thank.

You then continue your PSA still using the referent pronoun which of course the reader has now taken onto themselves as the source of that pronoun, you move onto a belittling statement advising that if the reader does not know some supposed (no context) information on the scepter that you are questioning their actual proficiency as a Mesmer. (Directed attack)

You finish up with another cryptic statement followed by a laugh, which at this time can only be directed at the reader due to the multiple referent points that were never defined.

Perhaps next time, spend a few minute’s re-reading your post before posting to make sure that the message which I am sure is in there somewhere, is delivered in a way that will assist and encourage others to investigate and learn.

To break down your ignorance of your attempt to show synergys with the Scepter with other MI.

Scepter 1 + scepter 2 does not equal Mirrored images, reasoning:

total cast time SS – 3+ seconds (based on distance from target)
total cast time MI – instant

Creation of clone button press requirements SS – 3 activations of primary attack plus 1 activation of secondary attack AND the requirement that you are hit while 2 is channeling.
Creation of clone button press requirements MI – 1 button

Damage outputted SS – White damage + block and torment
Damage outputted MI – Zero

Total recharge time for same effect SS – 12 seconds
Total recharge time for same effect MI – 45 seconds

Location of Clone creation SS – 1 on Mesmer, 1 at target location
Location of Clone creation MI – On Mesmer

On top of that using the subjective word of “Best” for control weapon, is always best prefixed with stating it is your opinion/perspective, after all in my opinion the Staff is alot more of a control weapon.

That is all.

Not so secret jumping puzzle guide/preview

in Sky Pirates of Tyria

Posted by: dulfy.1493

dulfy.1493

Hey everyone, as you all know, the Aetherblade jumping puzzle opens up this week! (It is still unclear if the jumping puzzle opens up today July 1 or tomorrow July 2). Here are some info to help you get started.

Where: Gendarran Fields – just south of Broadhollow Waypoint

http://i.imgur.com/OKgzIjM.jpg

Difficulty: It is not as hard as Mad King’s Clocktower but it isn’t something most people can finish in 5 minutes. While the puzzle is not timed, there are many steam jump pads inside the puzzle that can take a bit of practice to get used to. On some of the jumps, a mistake can be fatal and you will be forced to restart.

Rewards: You will be given an exotic shoulderpad (soulbound on acquire) in the puzzle chest. Unfortunately the skins are not new (for light it is the stately set, for medium it is the prowler set, and for heavy it is the heavy plate set).

Along the way, you will find three Aetherblade caches inside the puzzle. These caches are like normal jumping puzzle chests and generally doesn’t give you anything good.

Guide: Here is a video to help guide you through the puzzle (spoiler obviously). Note that the puzzle ends at 5:36 and the rest of the video show you how to get to the optional diving goggles at the very top for your #38th location for the Dive Master achievement

Added another video showing you how to get down from the very top using diving goggles for the dive master achievement

Additional link: A longer writeup with some pictures can be found here:

A Formal Complaint: Take 2

I really think that ANet didn’t think it through that far.

There was no conversation that started “Why aren’t more people running shatter builds.”

Instead, I think the discussion was “IC is too powerful to be an adept minor trait, let’s move it up a bunch”

The impact of that move was probably not completely thought out.

Anything I post is just the opinion of a very vocal minority of 1.

Build diversity? Every build now has 25 fewer points to work with because of the Illusionists Celerity change. All has been said already. My Mesmer is sidelined until something else is done.

Blood~

Or you simply play without that trait. It’s not necessary, and builds work mighty fine without it. Ofc it’s a very strong trait, but hey, that’s why it’s 25 deep into one tree.

Get off that horse dude, seriously. There’s more people around these forums with design or development experience than just you.

For situations like IC, there are two correct ways and one incorrect way to address them. Did it need to be addressed? Yes. Did ANet address it in the worst possible way that they could have? Also yes.

Correct way the first is if the trait is (nearly) universally taken, then absorb it into the base numbers and put something different in its place that makes for an actual choice. Correct way the second is to restrict access, but apply countervailing buffs to affected skills, or other traits which affect said skills, so that specs which lose access will remain at the same overall power level. There were many buffs in the patch, but none aimed at counteracting the effect of losing IC.

The incorrect way is to restrict access with no countervailing buffs, as that has the effect of a significant classwide nerf to all specs other than those which retain access.

Unless you’re trying to argue the position that virtually all mesmer specs other than IP Shatter were that overpowered and in need of a significant nerf (and good luck doing that without becoming the laughingstock of this forum), ANet screwed up big time on IC, no matter how you slice it.

Further, I would like to note that the IC change was not in the leaked set of patch notes which now appear to be from a late beta version. This means that the IC change was likely made at the last minute and likely poorly thought through.

Molten facility was fun and epic but not hard

That’s exactly what temporary content should be: fun and epic, but not excessively hard.

Let this dungeon be hard when it becomes a fractal (as they have been hinting it will become). While it’s temporary, it should be doable by an average group with any class composition. Think of it as advertisement for the future fractal.

The list of Software/Hardware and my thoughts——

Voice Activated Commands – http://www.dwvac.com/

This Software has soooo many awesome features. You bind phrases to individual keystrokes, macros of even modified keystrokes. You can use a phrase like “Fire” and bind it to use “F1” to switch to the fire element on your Elementalist.
It also allows you to activate a key ‘press’. What I mean by this is you can set up the software so when you say a phrase like “Shift on” and it will hold LShift until you say “Shift off”
The cons to this software is that it is buggy at times. The voice recognition is fairly basic and will make mistakes but for a price tag of only $18. It is worth trying out.

Razer Naga – http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-mice/razer-naga/

Let’s face it… We (if you only have one hand) need to utilize a mouse with lots of buttons. If we must use a mouse (and most games require them – GW2 is no exception) we need to have as many button accessible to our limited fingers. This is the mouse I prefer. Wireless, accurate, and glowy… with lots of buttons.
I opted for the Naga epic because of the custom coloring but the base Naga is awesome. They have released new Nagas with 8 buttons on the side if 12 is too much… but I barely have any problems with the 12 as far as mis-clicking.
For those who lost their right hand Razer has announced a left handed version but have been incredibly slow at releasing it. Keep pestering them. Send them emails, post on their forums and facebook. Tweet at them.

Scythe USB Foot Switches — http://www.scythe-usa.com/product/input/008/usbfootswitch_detail.html

I love them. The software took a while to figure out until I realized how simple it was. Drop down menu to select number of pedals. Then click on the box and type your keystroke. I can’t remember if the software supports Macros but it can work as a shift, ctrl or alt modifier or will utilize a modified keystroke. Once your customization is saved it will work in any computer without any software or drivers since it relies on the basic HID compliant drivers used by most USB mice and keyboards.
Them seem to be built a little more solid than the next set but have little customization as far as to the hardware itself. You can see the little wires exposed which worries me that the right object could fall in and cut them.

Fragpedal Quad option – http://www.gamingmouse.com/gaming/fragpedal/quad/

These are beauties. When I first opened them up I was amazed at how small they were, which is great for LAN parties as they fit in your laptop bag/backpack no problem. The software is more user friendly giving you the options of macros as well as modified key strokes. These, too, are also plug and play into any other system once they are set up.
These are customizable physically. With very simple modifications you can move the two pedals around on a single platform to make them closer or farther apart or add a third pedal to one. The sub-connection box only supports 2 usb plugs (I think) so it’s not a perfect set up to have 3 on one platform. Finally you can adjst how much effort it takes to click the button. They included these tiny metal rods and it took me a while before I realized you can lift up the pedal slightly and put them into grooves underneath the pedal to increase the height of the pedal off the switch.

My final recommendation is use a Joystick for movement. A simple jimmy-rig can have a joystick stationary enough to use it as your WASD movements. Software like AutoHotKey or Pinnacle Game Profiler

Kodesh.2019

The second addition to my computer gaming arsenal was a set of Scythe foot pedals. These are the 3-switch style and were a gift from my wife’s cousins. They seemed really simple to set up but it took me WAY too long to figure out the software. I was looking for popups or drop down menus to select keystrokes but instead you just had to click in the box and then type the key stroke it was way to easy. It works with shift, ctrl, and alt modifiers and can also work as shift, ctrl or alt. You also need to select how many pedals the device has and it gives you that many boxes. Hit the save and those pedals can plug into any computer and work without set up. (They are a simple HID device much like a usb keyboard so all plug n play) I bound #1 Weapon ability (auto attack), Dodge, and Use/Activate/Loot to these 3 buttons. I don’t like mouse clicking when I use the mouse for all of my movement so right clicking on everything had to go. Dodging was also a major problem so until I got these pedals I didn’t play much.

I knew I was going to rely on my feet more for gaming so I ordered a set of quad fragpedals. I liked the 2 sets of 2 style and with the cables I could position one set on either side of my first 3 pedals. I tried many different combinations of keystrokes take over abilities that I didn’t have bound before and was clicking but I was missing a good set of modifier keys so the left 2 became Lshift and Lctrl. The right side didn’t fare too well. I just found my right foot being glued to the dodge button in combat and the “use” button after combat. I put strafing on the right side but it is going to take me more practice to get good at.

That is my story thus far. I am still waiting for my prosthetic arm which I will be building an attachment for a Joystick. There is software that can convert axis movements to key strokes and I will finally be able to use my left hand (arm? lol) for movement again. This will allow strafing and back pedaling again.

Kodesh.2019

You either clicked on this out of curiosity or because you suffer the same limitation as me. My left arm was amputated above the elbow last December because of an accident at work. I am fortunate, as I am right handed but this has really brought a new level of challenge to my favorite hobby, gaming. I am not writing this because I feel I am important, to conjure sympathy or because my story is special in anyway, but because some people may find hope and the advice they need to overcome a similar predicament (or if you want to free up a hand for those chips and beer without gumming up your keyboard). In this topic I am going to explain my journey first before dropping software and hardware in a list because I want to encourage readers as much as inform them.

In the hospital I didn’t want to touch Guild Wars 2. I knew how difficult it would be without the use of the Keyboard and I was not about to create negative feelings of defeat towards GW2, a game I had come to really enjoy. Instead I played Minecraft. I have a Razer Naga Epic that I carried over from my years Spent ($15/mo please…) in World of Warcraft. That game had so many spells I needed the extra 12 buttons to maintain utility without swapping skills when switching between questing, PvP, and PvE dungeons/raids. For Minecraft I just remapped my run forward key to Keypad 5 and the jump button to Keypad 8, which is below or closer to me. I would hold run and be able to jump by shifting my thumb slightly. This slow-paced game made it easy to get used to the new play style.

When I was released home I slowly got back into GW2. I would only really log on to test different changes until I felt comfortable enough to play successfully, at least in my mind what was successful. I am fairly competitive when it comes to gaming so I was not going to return to GW2 as a noob. The first thing I tried after rebinding all necessary moves was Voice Activated Commands. This software allows you to use a phrase or several phrases to operate a keystroke, macro, or a shift, ctrl, or alt combo. I could bind the phrase “Heal” to press “q” and set “q” in game to activate my heal spell. So there I was… a guy sitting at his computer speaking out “Heal” “Judgement!” “Elite Skill” The downside of this software is that voice recognition software is not incredible accurate and it would sometimes require the phrase to be repeated. I had to bind a phrase to put the software to sleep and wake it up because I would be trying to talk to friends and my elite skill would keep going off. But even this was not a complete fix. During Skype conversations I would have to constantly say “stop voice” to put it to sleep because I could hear the software become active. The other awesome part is friends could shout across the room “heal” and blow my heal spell… All that aside, if you are not talking to people or have people in the same room it is actually very powerful software. The biggest downside of this software is the delay between the phrase recognition and the keystroke. It is not long… but when it comes to fast action.. it’s not fast enough.

Aetherblade Retreat dungeon thotz

1. Overall, I rate this dungeon an ‘B+’

2. The mechanics of the first boss were awesome to figure out. Was running in a pug and nobody had a clue what we were doing, so it took a bit of time to get everyone one the same page about the phases of the fight. Pity you only ever get that one time where you’re figuring stuff out.

3. The fact that the boss fight is all about the mechanics and getting into the the flow is fantastic. MOAR STUFFS LIKE THIS KTHX!

4. One minor critique of that fight is that through no fault of your own, the lightning walls can come into being directly on top of you. If the golems are close by when this happens and go after you, you’re going to die, and there is nothing you could have done about it.

5. Moving through the rest of the dungeon had just the right amount of mobs to fight and little things going on to keep it from getting boring.

6. The final boss fight is excellent mechanics wise. Again, it’s a blast figuring these things out. I’m as big a fan of Dulfy as anyone, but I really recommend avoiding her site until you’ve gone through yourself at least once.

7. My critique of the last fight is simply that it’s too long. It’s hard to get a shadowstepping enemy to stay where you want them to, and you have to burn off 10 shields. That takes a while. Then, when she unleashes the cannon, those barrages also last too long. I swear I felt like the last one was never going to end, and it’s not like it’s scary. If you survive the first thirty seconds, you’ll almost certainly survive the whole thing.

8. Inspector Kiel should be made invulnerable. She’s not really any help during the fights, and her ‘dying’ doesn’t do anything, so just have her wander along, taking in the sights, while the players do all the work (this is exactly what NPC’s should do anyway…they’re not playing the game, we are)

9. I want dodging to be part of the dailies during this entire event. First time I ran into those lightning spamming pirates I swear I had 10 evades in the first few seconds of the fight.

10. MOAR DUNGEONS LIKE THIS! Better yet, let’s keep this one while you make more. Yes, the last fight was bordering into the tedious, but most of the dungeon was all about figuring out the fights and getting into the flow of things rather than just big bags o’ hit points with one-hit killing power. So much better this way.

Hey I just met you – And this is crazy –

:(
i feel not fair about this
u should tell all player before release the patch or give 1/2 day before compensation to player who buy rich coffer too ~_~

nice filter on

Try and see it from the perspective of those that bought Rich Coffers. They had (1) no knowledge of the recipie and (2) zero chance of obtaining one. Yet they still bought them.

The compensation is very fair and generous from ANet, and I’m sure it’s appreciated by those it’s intended for.

nice filter off

What you’re asking for is ridiculous from then sense that with the current knowledge, purchase of a Rich Coffer yields a gauranteed return. Further it should be insulting to the intelligence of anyone reading this that you would think they can’t see this post as anything but the thinly veiled whine for free stuff as it is.

Dragon’s Revelry Starcake recipe :( not fair

yeah it means if we buy now we will not get compensation

It’s in the coffers now, if you buy now you might get it. They’re getting compensation for buying coffers previously because they had no chance to get what should have been in there. You don’t get compensation for a situation that never affected you previously.
