Thank you August Team (Queen's Jubilee)

I’d just like to thank the Team of this Month’s update.

Placing the story instance at the start of the event was a great idea.
It’s a nice way to explain what happened to the great collapse and putting everything in context.

Even more, you guys did a great job on the story of that instance. The characters really felt like they had personality, and the events happening during the opening ceremony were pretty interesting. It ended with some questions left unanswered, that we will hopefully know more about in two weeks.

Who’s the mysterious figure, is this Scarlet? Does Countess Anise have an hidden agenda?

So thanks again for this focus on the story, and I hope this is the quality of things to come lore wise. The pacing was great, and there’s just enough content to “tune in next time” to know what happens next.

Bittersweet feeling about the Bazaar

in Living World

Posted by: gurugeorge.9857

gurugeorge.9857

I was in the Bazaar today dropping in my last votes for Ellen (yay Ellen, boo to RNG), when I suddenly felt a bittersweet feeling that this beautiful place, with its beautiful music, fairytale atmosphere, fun things to do, and cute conversations, would be gone soon.

I then realized that I was feeling exactly the same way as I used to feel as a kid when the circus was in town, and then it was gone.

That, to me, is a type of immersion I’ve never felt in an MMORPG before. It feels a bit like a … well, like a living world.

More please!

A big thankyou to the ArenaNet team.

I’d just like to give ArenaNet some well deserved positive feedback.

I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 since the beginning and in that time seen how some players have embraced its take on MMOs while others have found the lack of some conventional features (trinity etc) somewhat disconcerting.

For me personally I adore this game, the gorgeous and detailed environments, the love and design that’s gone into every corner, the expertly crafted jumping puzzles that in themselves are worth playing the game for. The fact I have five maxed out level eighty characters might tell you how I just love to run through Tyria doing whatever takes me fancy.

When I look back and count all the additional content we’ve been given (for free!) it’s staggering. I was especially impressed with the quality and size of Christmas, Halloween and Southsun. On top of this we’ve had new dungeons, fractals, Superbox, the living story and much more. Then ArenaNet decided (rightly so) to get their house in order and it went quiet. Many of my friends sounded off with ‘bored and nothing to do’ and left the game. I’m now seeing many coming back after hearing good things.

The living story did start really slow in my opinion and so some people may have been jaded by this but Im really happy to see its now taking off and getting huge support from the community. It’s natural to want people to love the game you love but I couldn’t disagree with many when we started this and it had the ‘is that it’ feeling.

This latest chapter with the Aether Pirates is just fantastic, it’s challenging, well designed and most of all, lots of fun. I spent hours in the jumping puzzle last night pulling my hair out! The guys who made a zeppelin, hidden in a holographic mountain I take my hat off to you.

It’s almost a sigh of relief, your now pushing your player base with content that is really making them sit up and pay attention. In addition we have a lot more to come, your reworking of rewards in the wings (finally!) and a commitment to adding new content every two weeks is very encouraging.

So yes, I’d like to say a big thankyou and congratulations to ArenaNet for sticking to your guns, providing an almost impossible amount of additional content and listening/acting to the feedback from the community.

I hope your all getting the holidays and down time you deserve!

Genophix

A big thankyou to the ArenaNet team.

We’ve been given a large amount of content in a relatively short amount of time, and we haven’t been asked to pay a dime for any of it. I’ve never seen a developer so dedicated to giving their players such a good gaming experience in all my years (no short time) of gaming. Things aren’t perfect; it’s unlikely they ever will be. That’s just the nature of these things. But your effort and your passion are not unnoticed. Nor are they unappreciated. So here’s a well deserved “thank you.”

Where's GW1 in GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Mirta.5029

let’s go trough the list of what’s wrong with your post.

Instead they copied WoW

1. may I ask how did they copy WoW? Was it the gear progression? Or the raids? Or mounts? Or…? Nothing is alike WoW in this game. Hell GW1 is more like WoW than GW2.

GW1 was a next level mmo

2. I wouldn’t call GW1 an MMO. Areas (except for cities) were instanced, not open world at all.

traits = wow masteries

3. remember that put in points system in GW1? Is that alike WoW masteries as well?

single classes with each their own set of skills

in GW1 you could pick up 2 professions, but the skills that you would get would still be limited to the professions that you chose. So each class still had their own set of skills.

Trading post = auction house

a lot of GW1 players are happy with this innovation. Unless of course you prefer standing in a town yelling for hours…

Open world

kind of a defining point of an MMO.

Long time required to level

no where as long as it requires in other games. I don’t remember a single other MMO where I could hit cap level in under a week.

Mining, woodcutting, etc..

and unlike WoW you don’t train these as professions. You pick up a gathering tool and gather if you feel like it.

Paid waypoints

intended as a gold sink, otherwise the economy would inflate.

Dodge to counter the dmg of EVERYTHING instead of taking the correct skills to counter your enemy

so you would rather we would have the old school combat system of stand there and cast? And just in case you forgot – a lot of classes can block, feedback, reflect, retaliate.
4. I’m a player that picked up GW1 for its story. So that’s why I played it. Not to grind. Not to speedclear. You’re asknig for a very small audience to answer you.

About the current music

in Audio

Posted by: MeGaZlo.9516

MeGaZlo.9516

I created this theme earlier in the discussion section. Because I did not notice the existence of “audio” section. I confess.
so

First things first, I want to say that Jeremy Soule is my favorite composer. I have 4 discs with GW music, and I must say that over a third of the tracks are not used in the game, many are rarely used, such as at the phases of the personal stories. I think it’s a waste of potential. Personally, in my opinion, the music in the game is extremely important. And it’s great part of the overall experience. Ignoring these moments, you deprive a large proportion of the game atmospherics.

And often there are flaws, moreover: for example, in Orr suddenly begins to play an easy, relaxing tune from queensdale. The atmosphere immediately goes nowhere.
Or, in dragonbrand, for example, plays unobtrusive, easy music too.

I would like to see some correction in this regard pls, if it possable.

There are many beautiful compositions, barely involved in the game. Such as “The Seraph”, often encountered in the trailers before release. “Heritage of Humanity” – same situation, only in the opening human video. “Snaff’s Workshop” not even played, well, in the Snaff’s Workshop… strange. “The Walls of Ebonhawke” – brilliant soundtrack, but… there is not inside the walls of Ebonhawke. “The Vigil Goes to War” – perfect composition for Kryta locations. I’ve heard it only on the disk. “Ventari’s Legacy”, good music for Grove. “Tyria Awaits” – good underwater music. “Tengu Wall”. “Zhaitan” – never heard it in Orr. “The Darkness Will Fall”. “The Saga of the Norn” – must be in Hoelbrak. “The Vaults of the Priory”. “The Charr Triumphant” – suppa-duppa mega music, it MUST be in Black Citadel at least, not only in Tequatl battle. “Here Be Dragons”, excellent track, but it sounds only in battle with Zhaitan. I would like to hear “Scales of Issormir” more often too. Oh… and of course a individually aboit “Fear Not This Night” composition. Branded music, not occurring in the game AT ALL. Plays only after the murder of Zhaitan (where it just did not have time to listen), and a piece of it in the grove vistas. Sadly…

Well, enough of text. I hope the basic idea I opened.

I know that the game has even more music than there is on the disks. I would like to see some “rebalance of soundtracks” around the world. In the capitals, for example, in the remarkable places and so on.

Uninstanced Salma, new walls.

What’s up with the effort to keep players out? Is it causing issues with the game?

Genuine curiosity here — I don’t use it. I know lots of players who do; to hold events, regular RP, use the hospital, etc, etc.

May 28th patch introduced more invisible walls. Obviously the intention is to keep players out. Why? Do they NEED to stay out? Is A-Net not aware of how widely the place is used?

Dialog, plz.

Inspector Ellen Kiel: Okay, I’ve got settlers, Consortium bureaucrats, and Captain Magnus, all yelling at me.
Inspector Ellen Kiel: The settlers are getting restless. Plus, the local wildlife is getting frisky, and we all know how that ends.
Inspector Ellen Kiel: Magnus wants it all sorted out before the upcoming festival begins.
Inspector Ellen Kiel: Personally, I’ll be happy if we can just keep everyone from killing each other.

Aggren Vicegrip: I need out of this place. I hate the food, the water, I hate the air. And the sand? Hate it.
Consortium Agent: You there! Your break’s over. Get back to work.
Aggren Vicegrip: And I hate that killing that jerk wouldn’t matter. They’ll have a new jerk in place by morning.
Aggren Vicegrip: I’ve been itching to hurt something. You just volunteered.
Inspector Ellen Kiel: You hotheads are only making things worse.
Inspector Ellen Kiel: You can’t win. The first thing a Lionguard learns is how to end a brawl.

Inspector Ellen Kiel: Right: any more violence and I’ll use all of you to chum the waters of Sawtooth Bay.
Aggren Vicegrip: Go ahead. I’d rather be shark bait than a prisoner.
Inspector Ellen Kiel: You’re not a prisoner. You signed a Consortium contract to be here.
Aggren Vicegrip: Because there was an emergency. Now the emergency’s over, and I want out.
Aggren Vicegrip: And I don’t want Consortium mercenaries on my tail for the rest of my life, waving that stupid contract.
Inspector Ellen Kiel: I’m sorry, but my hands are as tied as yours. You signed it, so you have to stick to it.
Inspector Ellen Kiel: In the meantime, quit stirring up trouble, or you’re fish food.

Henrika: I’m sorry. We were after the records… the contracts that keep us here. We just wanted to be free.
Henrika: He had a plan, and we were getting desperate. He said nobody would get hurt but the Consortium.
Henrika: He was… a sylvari. Kind of a snob. Tough, though. He knows this island inside and out.
Inspector Ellen Kiel: He… of course he does. He spent a lot of time here exploring the place. Didn’t think he’d ever come back, though.
Inspector Ellen Kiel: A reckless sylvari who knows Southsun Cove, and has a grudge against the Consortium? We’re looking for Canach.
Inspector Ellen Kiel: At least we’ve got something to go on. Now to see where it goes.
Henrika: Remind me not to sign any more contracts. Ever.

{{Thank you Kasaeva for finding this one}}
Inspector Ellen Kiel: Tell me everything. These buildings seem to be the target. What’s inside?
Subdirector Noll: That information is strictly on a need-to-know basis. And mind your tone. The Consortium is the victim here.
Inspector Ellen Kiel: Fine. Have fun being trampled and eaten until someone who needs to know shows up.
Subdirector Noll: Wait, wait. Given the circumstances… These are simple storage depots. Tools, supplies, records…
Inspector Ellen Kiel: Why would wild creatures attack caches of tools, supplies, and records?
Subdirector Noll: Figuring that out is your job. And just so you understand the stakes—this isn’t an isolated incident.
Subdirector Noll: Our Southsun records on the mainland have also been targeted. Destroyed, in fact.
Subdirector Noll: The originals here are all that’s left. I’m having them collected so we can protect them, but I want Lionguard assurances.
Subdirector Noll: If the Consortium loses this important asset, the Captain’s Council will hear about your incompetence.

I’ve compiled a list of the conversations between NPC’s that are relevant to The Secret Of Southun storyline. If I have missed anything, please let me know.

Lord Faren: Is that you, Kas? My dear, dear friend, I haven’t seen you in ages. What a coincidence, us both being here!
Lady Kasmeer Meade: You were on the same ship I was, Faren. I saw you trying to hide.
Lord Faren: Not from you, dear lady. Perish the thought. No, I was merely… assuming a low profile.
Lord Faren: My exploits drew some unduly harsh reaction back in ol’ DR. I felt it was time for a sabbatical.
Lord Faren: So I am traveling incognito to enjoy a temporary separation from my established social circle.
Lady Kasmeer Meade: What a marvellous idea. I was attempting that very thing.

Lord Faren: I never “fled to Southsun Cove.” I… came to secure my reservations for the upcoming festival.
Lord Faren: But what about you? What brings you to this fair island?
Lady Kasmeer Meade: Business and pleasure. I’m fact-finding for Jory, and I heard this was a one-of-a-kind resort.
Lord Faren: It is that. One with a reputation for dangerous fun… well, danger, anyway.
Lord Faren: Truth be told, I was rather counting on that to discourage any other visitors from DR.
Lady Kasmeer Meade: Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone you’re here. If I did, I wouldn’t have you all to myself.

Lord Faren: So you and Jory don’t do bodyguard work. Too bad. My body could definitely use some guarding.
Lord Faren: I was trained in single combat, of course, but I’m currently facing a much less fortuitous ratio.
Lady Kasmeer Meade: Right, you were Swordmaster Bongo’s prize student. Your parents paid extra for the title.
Lord Faren: Well I don’t like to brag… wait, what?
Lady Kasmeer Meade: Sorry, I meant “training.” They paid extra for the special training that made you so formidable.

Lord Faren: I’d be an excellent pirate. “Captain Faren, Scourge of the High Seas.” And of the high-end taverns.
Lady Kasmeer Meade: I can definitely see you with a cutlass and a corsair’s hat, swashbuckling the day away.
Lord Faren: I like the sound of that! That is to say, “Har! Yar! Avast!” and so forth.
Lady Kasmeer Meade: I suggest calling yourself Faren the Tongueless and remaining silent until you’ve mastered the lingo.

Lord Faren: I’ve built us a house with my own two hands. You’re not the only noble who works, you know.
Lord Faren: Now we can stay here together forever, rent-free!
Lady Kasmeer Meade: That’s sweet, but are you sure it’s finished?
Lady Kasmeer Meade: It looks more like a foundation. For a hovel that’s designed to lower property values.
Lord Faren: I’m a trend-setter, my dear. Soon all our friends will have beach homes like this one.

Lord Faren: Why not? You’re here, I’m here, the waves are crashing romantically upon the shore.
Lord Faren: It’s not like we’ve never kissed before.
Lady Kasmeer Meade: We were eight.
Lord Faren: And I’ve carried a torch for you ever since. Surely proof that my love is no mere schoolboy’s trifle.
Lady Kasmeer Meade: Yes, well… not to change the subject, but I think you need to wax again. Your stubble is showing.

Lord Faren: Have you heard the scuttlebutt? The Captain’s Council is simple riven over the upcoming festival.
Lord Faren: Half want to honor tradition and make the traditional profit.
Lord Faren: The rest think it’s bad form to have a dragon festival in the middle of a dragon war.
Lady Kasmeer Meade: I understand it’s a delicate subject, but isn’t the council always at each other’s throats?
Lord Faren: Only when they’re not trying to stick knives in each other’s backs.

RTL "change"

I’ve played an ele since release and have taken the RTL changes gracefully, it was too strong to begin with.

Now? I’m in pure shock and awe. I can’t keep up with warriors. I can’t catch rangers with sword. As scepter/dagger, I can’t even leap off of tall places to gain extra distance, it really doesn’t feel like 1200, and you still get an RTL rubberband at the end of it, so it may as well be 900 with having to make the distance up (mind you I have a powerful computer with a fast connection).

Went out for a little bit in WvW, it feels totally useless. This hurts, guys.

I hope this doesn’t sound like a complaining post, I don’t mean it to be, I just wanted to inform. Good luck to you all.

I can’t stand the controls. My brain is hard wired to move with the left hand, and attack/jump with the right hand. That’s 26 years of conditioning to try and undo. Not going to happen.

This plus 2.

Seriously, I know it’s just a flash minigame done on the side but for future input, never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever EVER put movement on the right hand, attack/jump on the left. You’re completely screwing with people’s familiarity with platformers, and yes it makes the game more challenging, but not in a fun way.

This is what is called “Artificial Difficulty”. Yes the term gets thrown around a lot, but in this case it is absolutely true. Difficulty that is based on not being able to see your surroundings so that you can react, an unhelpful UI, and awful controls constitute artificial difficulty. Challenge from content is good, challenge from terrible controls is just frustrating without being fun.

I’ve had no qualms about the controls because arrow keys + letters are what most keyboard flash games use, and so do emulators of gameboy games and all by default. Anyone who’s used those will beg to differ with your thoughts.

It probably has nothing to do with making difficulty. It’s just that for some people this is the norm control scheme.

Important Note:
I encourage all of you to explain why you would like the Super Adventure Box to stay as a permanent addition.

My reasons are, this content alone restored my childhood. I just spent all night constantly playing this content over and over with glee. I’ve never nerdgasm’d so hard in my entire life. The classic Bowser laugh when you are fighting a boss or die, the rupee sound effect when you pick up Bougles, and the monkeys from Donkey Kong. I mean, seriously.

This would seriously be a great addition to players to go mess around in for some R&R after a long day of grinding, world vs world, or PvP. It’s very fun, very engaging, and just all out amazing!

Separate night and day gamma settings

Here’s my “problem”…

With a gamma of 1.00, the day looks awesome in game, but the night is just not a night, it’s not dark enough.
With a gamma of 0.75, the night looks awesome, but the day is too dark and looks like an eternal sunset.

My suggestion would be to give us two gamma sliders in the settings, and when you switch to night, you also progressively switch to night gamma. This way, those who like it as it is actually wouldn’t be affect, but those of us who would like a bit more “realism” and immersion could just adjust the setting to their liking.

If the only options at the end of the day were that Anet has to make the concession to keep Cantha uniformally one Asian culture moving forward, or never have it then I bet most of us would accept that concession even though it sucks that they have to be “sensitive” to those issues for political reasons. There’s a lot that goes on that we never hear about and never will hear about, and have really no right to hear about at this point in time in regards to the business and relations portion of ArenaNet and the game. As Josh said, many of the developers would love to return to Cantha, I bet many of them would rather do it sooner than later, but there’s probably a lot they have to do in order to move forward with Cantha and I sincerely hope they will and if there’s a way for them to make it happen I am sure they will.

That’s a very good way of putting it. I certainly don’t know where, when, or how the decision was made. I’m just a map artist. So I’m not in a position to critique it. I also don’t know the extent of the decision. For all I know it was some producer in Korea who doesn’t work there any more and the next time it’s brought up there will be no problem. Or maybe there will be one or two tweaks that will fix the problem. Who knows?

Greetings,

If you read or post on our official forums, you may have noticed the +1 button next to each post. Recently, we have updated this system with more features and visibility for you, the players. You can find the full forum update notes here. This post is to familiarize you all with the new features in our +1 system and how they affect you.

Added a link to user profile pages which shows posts that a user has +1’d, ordered such that top-most is the most recent

Added a link to user profiles to show highly rated posts ordered descending by score

When visiting a user’s profile page, you can view all posts that user has +1’d starting with the most recent, or see all of their own posts that have been +1’d by others sorted descending by score.

Both of these options are opt-in, because we respect your privacy and don’t want to force you into sharing information you are not comfortable with sharing. As such, you may not see these links in other user profile pages immediately. You will always see these links on your own page, regardless of your settings.

To allow others to view these pages on your own profile, click on your display name in the upper right of the forum, then on the following page, click “Edit Profile”, check the last two boxes and click “Save changes”.

Popularity is divided between popular and very popular as well as per-thread and forum-wide

What this means is that there are two levels of popularity, categorized “popular” and “very popular”. Currently these are indicated by a thumbs-up icon that appears next to the +1 button. If a post is very popular, the thumbs-up earns a star that appears within said icon.
Our future plans include updating these indicators to something more visually striking. Until then, this is how you will know if a post has achieved popular status.

There are also two levels in which posts are gauged for popularity, on a per-thread basis and forum-wide. Forum-wide popularity takes into account +1s from within a set time period across the forum. Per-thread popularity takes into account all +1s in a thread. Visually, a forum-wide popular post will have a red underline beneath the thumbs-up icon.

Over the next few weeks, we will monitor thresholds against post-scores and make adjustments as we see is necessary to ensure accurate display of popularity indicators. Going forward, if you read a post and like it, press that +1 button. It’s how you let us, and other players, know that you liked what you read.

I understand that some of you are disappointed that you cannot guest on worlds in another region, but considering the complexity of internet routing, our main priority is to ensure that players have as much of an uninterrupted game experience as possible, which is the reason why we have two datacenters.

I’m sorry, but you did promise something before the game went live, before people chose their worlds.

Here at ArenaNet, we’ve always held that you should be able to play with your friends, whether they’re next door or a continent away. Today we’d like to outline a number of policies and technologies we’re implementing to support this belief.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/a-world-of-choice-the-regions-of-guild-wars-2

This was posted in a blog by Regina on August 16th. I chose my world with this in mind. I picked a world where most of my European friends where, because I could play with my American friends once guesting was live. Now, you say you told a lie back then. Or at least promised something without checking if it was actually possible.

Either way, 12 days is ample time to prepare as a community with our friends. It is not like the patch comes out tonight and we are all out of luck.

Unfortunately, I am not talking about a couple of dozen people that I would need to try to round up and get moved to one dataserver or the other. I am talking about thousands of people.

The GW2 Roleplay community is quite large and both sides are well-ingrained on their existing servers. Contacting, much less moving, everyone is a logistical impossibility at this stage, and it’s not likely that either server would have enough room to house everyone who’d try to transfer if we attempted it.

Guesting solution - "International" Server

in Suggestions

Posted by: TottWriter.8591

TottWriter.8591

Seeing as the NA and EU are going to remain separated when guesting is implemented, as a halfway measure would it be possible to create an “international” server which people from any region can transfer to for guesting purposes, without a WvW matchup?

The idea would be that it is for people on either datacentre to mutually guest to, for the purposes of PvE. As such, it wouldn’t necessarily have a resident population, much like an overflow server works now, but would be available at all times for people in different Data Centres to be able to PvE together outside of an instance.

I don’t see how it would be functionally any harder to implement than Overflow servers, seeing as players from NA and EU can play together on those. All it would do is offer a permanent flag for people to head to, specifically for PvE grouping. And seeing as it would only be for cross data-centre guesting, ping and other matters shouldn’t be quite so bad, if everyone else is guesting the “regular” way.

Something like this would be utterly invaluable to the RP community though, as well as international guilds.

“When Guild Wars 2 launches, you will also have the option to play with your friends on another world with our free “guesting” feature. With guesting, your characters can play on any world where you have friends—with certain restrictions. For instance, you will not be able to participate in WvW while guesting.”

Truths – Can’t participate in WvW.

Falsehoods – At launch
Any world

The RPing community chose Piken Square and Tarnished Coast as unofficial RP servers because we knew, thanks to quotes like this, guesting would let us play together.
Now we’re sorely disappointed.

I’m really dissapointed. I was really looking forward to jump between the two RP communities Piken Square and Tarnished Coast. Guess I’ll have to stick to Piken now.

What is the point of global guilds by the way. Why should we be allowed to make international guilds when the only way to actually have a guildmeeting is to ask people to pay Arenanet gems for a transfer? This is really beyond silly.

Guesting is useless! How can we not cross regions? My partner and I are usually in two different regions and we can’t play together because of this? I have friends all over the globe and GW1 was all about different districts and worlds. This is so ridiculous. I’m so disappointed. ANET could have at least made this clear at the very beginning. MMO’s are meant to be global. I’m SO angry about this guesting system. It’s not even guesting!

I know a lot of people in the RP community are and will be greatly saddened by this news. Many people were eagerly anticipating guesting to play with friends on either side of the Atlantic, assuming that this would be included since GW1 allowed it.

The community already struggles somewhat with a lack of official recognition, and it’s a shame that we are still going to be fractured by this when outside the game it is relatively close knit, with players switching between servers at the moment on free transfers.
