Zerging is exactly the wrong way to be capping ruins, and I would be less concerned about how stupid you think bloodlust is and rather how stupid the opposing server is for attempting to do this.

It’s a waste of manpower, but actually not the easy to take advantage of. Because while the counter to this would be to go hit some valuable structures of the zerg, taking Tower and Keeps still takes significantly long enough that the zerg can easily abandon their ruins diversions and go wipe any counter attacking force, and then simply resume zerging over the ruins.

People also draw the wrong conclusion that the vastly better coverage and population servers are always the bigger zerg servers. Not necessarily, as having vastly more people means you also have vastly more to expend into small groups to patrol the ruins. The undermanned side is likely to be outmanned in the ruins to an equal degree that they are in the larger fights.

Devon Carver doesn’t care about what people in the forum say, as they’re an extreme minority in his opinion, so therefore, a way to see people reacting doesn’t exist, so he does whatever he wants.

Only way to see that a patch has a “negative effect” is that he sees numbers of players dropping..

Players will keep coming in WvW because it’s part of the map completion! How will ANet determine if the decline in WvW participation (if there is any) is due to a certain mechanic or not?

Oh hey, top server, just before the launch of leagues: even though you have more people we want to offer you an advantage in combat, said Anet, I guess.

I am so thrilled with this new content. We lost two keeps today- but wait! We held on to three capture points!!!!! Yay! But only for a minute, guess we will have to try and try again.

Oh and still enjoying the amahzing lag this is creating too! I really enjoy the delay in getting into the tower entrances that have a zerg of 40 people in front of it. That is my favourite.

The most disappointing part – this is proof if there ever was that things do not get tested. Issues such as the one displayed in this video are not found by TRYING to break the game or abuse mechanics. These are found by simply playing WvW as intended by the devs.

The example in the video above was done on purpose, timing the required boons and such necessary to maintain the 90~100%+ damage reduction.

You’ve said it yourself, MMOs are a very complex thing. For the sake of your playerbase, please allow players to help bug test these kinds of future features. There is no shame in having test servers, some of the longest living MMOs have given this option to players. Players will help test things like this for free.

The people speaking out in these discussions may seem a bit critical at times, but these people are passionate about this game and what it has brought, they want to see the game succeed as much as you do.

Bloodlust gives the server which has more people during off peak (or whenever) another additional huge advantage which extends on all maps to boot.

You can strategize all you want, simple fact of the matter is, if the other server has 50 people on the map and you’ve 10, you’re not going to hold the buff for that map nor are you going to be able to remove theirs, except maybe for very short periods of time.

The balance problem in this game has never been at peak hours or during the periods when the forces are similar. The problem has always been the huge amount of points the server with more off peak presence can rack up whenever the opponents are not around to fight. Bloodlust exacerbates the problem; now if you’re on the losing side not only you’re forced to leave one or more maps deserted due to lack of people, but on the maps where you can still afford a presence you’ll be forced to fight at a huge disadvantage.

And please don’t even mention stuff like “but you can have a 5 man group on your empty map trying to take back the buff”. Yes you can; the other guys can have them too, and in fact they can have more people, more easily, since hey… they’ve more people to start with in the first place. And it doesn’t take any huge amount of “strategizing” to manage the new stuff; it’s just a bunch of additional points to keep scouted. Also, losing the buff for a few minutes isn’t going to faze the winning server; the zone-hopping night blob can easily focus on saving the T3 keep under attack, then jump on the other map and recap the closest 3 points to get the buff back. In the end it’s not the minute-to-minute ownership which is going to make a difference, but whoever can have it up for more time in the long run.

I haven’t read all responses yet but most of the initial replies have a good point in that it unbalances the scene more. Seeing as the community has been requesting for changes in the past months, and this new map was what Anet has come up with…. putting capture points, they’d require something for people to actually care about capturing them. If it were something superficial or not really impacting the whole scene, people would just stick with the zerg and farm wxp, which in essence, makes this a failure.

I’m pretty sure that the reason behind the stat buff is to give importance to the objectives and the reason behind the closeness of the points is to divide the zerg (a zerg of 30 will be more effective splitting into 3 or 5 to capture the other points). With that, there’s nothing stopping a server with less coverage to muster up enough people to at least capture 1 point and continue round the other points.

This then partially serves as the solution to decrease zerging in borderlands since a lot of people will be preoccupied with capturing points. Thus, the server with less coverage will have the choice of contesting these buff capture points or capturing a tower or keep knowing that the numbers of the zerg of the server with more coverage is less than what it should’ve been. This choice is also available to the commander of the more populated server.

Let’s try to see what it does first before citing criticisms. I’m sure Anet would’ve seen what we are reacting to now, as it’s pretty obvious…. They have some underlying thing they wanted us to see here, we just (maybe) haven’t found it yet (it’s only less than a couple of hours since the patch anyway).

That is what is reality:

Getting rolled by 50+ in the ruins and ofc they already have the +150 Buff.

Result: Mission failed.

often at this time (midnight) i’d log my main, throw up my commander tag and lead the fight vs the enemy in a brave effort to hold onto a few towers in wvw.

tonight i’m not going wvw. why would i deliberately seek an unfair fight vs a more populated server with extra stats?

can’t answer? nor can i.

i would like to ask who thought this bloodlust idea was good and who allowed it to be implemented? then i’d like to ask that these people NEVER be allowed to contribute to balance or development of game mechanics ever again.

you should have learned from the orbs. guild wars is supposed to be the mmo based on the idea of a fair fight. this is anything but fair. fix it; remove the stats bonus ASAP.

Hi Anet,

I am not sure if this is technically possible since EB JP is a separate map now I hope it is. Can you please remove the bloodlust buff from the Eternal borderlands JP area atleast. This will allow the GvG community a field to continue playing. My guild is new to GvG but if WvW is going in the direction you are taking with flame rams dropping t3 doors with ac’s raining on the rams then we don’t need to bother upgrading/defending… The only other thing keeping me in the game is open field and GvG. So PLEASE look into this asap and see if it is possible. If you can make this happen the GvG/open field crowd can have fun in there until you realize how bad bloodlust is….

TLDR:
Please remove bloodlust buff from EB Jumping puzzle area so GvGers & skirmishers can use it. It is a separate map so it should b possible.

The title says it all, this “new” update is awful. So many people think so too. I have never seen such a bad update by the guild wars 2 WvW team. When I first got into WvW I thought this update would be great! But then I realized that you don’t get any karama, gold, or xp from capping the points. GvG are ruined. And this is just like the orbs. Devon, after I realized what just happened, I have lost a lot of faith in humanity. I’m most likely going to quit the game now because WvW is why I bought this game. And my friend you have just ruined it for me and many other loyal players. I do hope you remove this update, and just please, bring the dumb orbs back. It would be so much better and so much more enjoyable. Orbs were the best thing ever invented in WvW, and you just took them away. I kept playing cause I hoped 1 day the orbs would return. But, I was wrong and now i’m thinking about quitting game. Anet I know your going to delete this post but I hope this rang a bell for the people that work for you. Many listen to the players that payed money for the game you made. Just posting my opinion on this. Tell me if you have thoughts up quitting yourself. Evaluate the orb buff for a few weeks. Evaluate your server’s behaviour. Don’t judge badly because you’re losing. Be constructive.

I wouldnt be shocked, they need some positive publicity. They aint get that much of it so could make fake accounts to make it seem enough people love it so they arent forced to admit they were clueless in the design, had no idea what they were doing and have to fix it.

JESUS kittenING CRIST! This kitten is beyond any words… Devs making all sorts of mindless decisions for god knows what reason, if there is any reason at all… As I said in another thread some time ago what Anet basically does is “Hey guuuuys!! Look at us we are doing SOMETHING!” kitten meee…
1st all of this imbalancness could have been easily predicted, I mean, giving an ofensive bonus in the form extra stats, yeah what a great kittening idea, like the server which dominates the maps with numbers will totaly not touch those caps, at all… Jesus…. How stupid can someone be to even consider implementing such a thing, bring even more power to the already superior servers… like the numbers advantage was not enough. Instead they should have thought how to increase the capabilities of loosing servers, so the matchup could have some sort of balance.
2nd and more importnat, bugs bugs bugs… It almost feels as Anet doesnt have a testing team to verify the crap they release… And how could they not see that calculating the buffs will lead to so much lag? I’m sure they are aware that they have probably the lamest servers someone can buy… And their game engine is complete kitten…
3rd and MOST IMPORTANT: you dont do fancy bullkitten and include crap and lame things in a game, that suffers immense ammounts of lag even 1 year after release! This should be like prio N1! Fix you kitten game engine and servers, make the game playeble and than add your fancy lame bullkitten! Every time an orb changes there is a massive lag all over the kittening place! Completely unplayeble for now…

There are some limits but Anet incompetence pretty much crossed them all… Its like their intentions are to make WvW completely unenjoyable and unplayable, so they can drag more ppl in their imaginary “esport spvp” bullkitten. I simply dont have any other explonation now, this just cant be simple incompetence and stupidness…

I have to join in on this. I don’t post very often but this is a tragedy in game design. The new ruins are great, whoever was the level designer did an amazing job there are tons of new open field fighting opportunities.

But isn’t it obvious that the buffs were and are an incredibly bad decision in game design? Will one of the Devs please explain to all the people on these forums what they were thinking as clearly none of us understand.

It took 30 mins for the winning server to gain all 3 buffs and there they have stayed due to the huge groups that are swiftly moving through them capturing everything and holding everything.

Gw2 is a great game and I’ve spent a considerable amount of time playing, which is why I want them to keep on improving it and gaining more players. But at the moment WvW is not improving, these kind of badly thought out ideas are killing a game that has so much potential and thousands of paying customers.

Would love a response here but know that it probably won’t come.

I made a thread about this, but I’ll put it here too. The camp npcs being buffed could possibly make it even more impossible for an outmanned server to accomplish anything. Previously when my servers were outmanned/unrepresented I would at least solo roam to flip camps to feel as if I was contributing something. I’m noticing that this is much more difficult now that the npcs at the camps have +150 stats.

While most people will be able to adapt to it, I’m afraid this may alienate solo roamers/small servers even further.
