It is very annoying, and difficult to control. I’ve been in situations before where the bubbles for say weren’t enough for people to find me due to nearby obstructions.

I’m more than a little annoyed at the camera. If I go down during a dungeon I want to be able to watch the fight. I reposition the camera then 2 seconds later….OH look camera is floating away again. UGH. NO camera stay put. I put you where I wanted you. It really makes me feel sick when the camera won’t stay in one place. I tried holding it in one place but even then it still breaks free from my grasp and floats off. Okay…float off once when I die, but if I move it back for goodness sake PLEASE let me reposition it and let it stay put.

Yeah I’m a little annoyed with the camera changing to view your downed character. It makes no sense, especially in WvW/EotM when you want to see where the zerg went to let people know etc.

What is up with the camera while downed? When I’m revived I’m looking at the ground – not helpful to pull myself out of the situation.

Man, it’s weird how so many people seem to confuse “I don’t particularly like playing with groups” with something involving time, or not knowing how to find a group. It’s not like I’ve seen “lfg [ac/hotw/se/fotm/etcetera]” in map chat just about everywhere, or like I know that there’s an LFG tool in the Contacts section, really.

That was sarcasm, if you’re planning on missing the point there, too. No, I’m not going to re-explain the point; go read the original post if you’re having trouble. Carefully. Same goes for people who seem to think I meant it took too long to get together with, and do the dungeon with, a group, though you might have to read down to my second post, where I clarify the comment about time.

I don’t get the inherent hate displayed here for people who want to do things solo. Many have valid reasons to why they would like a way to enjoy the content at their own pace and time without being affected by others. Taking care of children and elderly, job, real life issues, etc etc. How in the world does giving them an OPTION to solo possibly ruin your gaming experience so much to inspire such contempt and sarcasm?

Even in this case, it’s nice to know these holiday dungeons are small and doable in a short time so even those who have irratic playtimes due to responsibilities have a decent chance to go at it without being disturbed, but what about normal dungeons that take an hour or more to do? They are effectively barred from that content since no one wants to do dungeons with people who go afk frequently.

Killing mobs in wild for gifts – Solo
Picking up presents in the wild – Solo
Bell Choir – Solo
Jumping Puzzle – Solo
Building Snow Men – Solo
Crafting Wintersday Items – Solo

PVP/Snowball FIght – Puts you in a group automatically

The only things you absolutely need a group for (that I know of) are the Tixx events.

And hey, it’s also the only way to get the 5 minipets, unless i want to spend gems. Rewards for limited time content should not be restricted to a single gameplay type.

You’re playing a multiplayer game and you’re asking for new content to be singleplayer. Why?

“Multiplayer game” doesn’t mean forced grouping. Many multiplayer games require no groups whatsoever.

How is it forced? You can easily solo the dungeon.

Whether or not I can solo the dungeon is irrelevant. So long as at least one player cannot solo the content, it is an instance of forced grouping. Limiting rewards to forced grouping content for any limited time event should not happen.

For solo players and holidays: Jumping puzzle is solo. WvW requires no talking to jump in with a Commander, Snowball Arena is random, just jump in and play. Bell game is solo. I could keep going. Heck, you can go farm presents solo. You know the big ones that spawn. The only thing that requires a party is the dungeon which takes 5 minutes top end to find a group for. I think calling it a pain for solo players is not true. There are TONS of things to do solo that I just listed.

Well, that would be great, except for the fact that the only way to get the holiday minis (unless you want to pony up real cash for gems) is to run that dungeon.

“But that’s no different than dungeon armor now” you might say. Except it is. Normal dungeons are permanent content. If I decide I want the armor, I can get to it in my own time, waiting to do them with my choice of people. The holiday dungeons are limited time access. People who want those minis can’t wait very long. If they miss out, they have to wait a whole year and hope the same content is offered.

All ‘tangible’ rewards for any limited access content should be obtainable via both solo and group play.

I live in a multiplayer world and the word solo exists. I wouldn’t mind a LFG tool though. I’d also prefer scaling to team size, just to cover all the bases.

I also wish there were either a solo option, or that it the dungeon were more like the Mad King’s Labyrinth. I happen to be a very social person, however, that side of me is usually something that is strongly integrated into my RL. I deal with tons of people at work and in my career, and though I enjoy it, it drains my reserves.

As an introvert, I recharge my energy, which includes my energy to be social, by being alone—and a big part of that is through gaming. I am not an anti-social person, nor am I a completely solo player; I’m an officer in a small guild, and I have friends. Holidays, though, are times when I’m over-exposed to social events in RL, and I especially feel the need for some alone time while gaming.

One of the things I love about this game is that you can be alone, but still be around people. That’s something it seems some folks have a hard time understanding. I don’t mind being in-game with people, but I don’t always have the energy to directly interact with them. I’m friendly and helpful, and I love the mob-type grouping because I can assist folks without committing to engage further with them.

Funnily, when I do have the energy to engage with folks in-game, I’ll RP rather than do raid/operation/dungeon/pvp/WvW content.

To be honest, I haven’t even done a single dungeon yet in the regular game, though the story seems to push me to it, and my main is level 49. I probably wont do it either. I don’t mind that, even if it means I never complete the story. Similarly, I haven’t even touched the WvW content, and am unlikely to.

The holiday events are fun, and I really did enjoy the labyrinth—I even did a little bit of the pvp stuff for that event (the fun of the labyrinth made me willing to try it), but found it pretty boring.

Sadly, I logged in today to play a little of this event before going about my day, but when I encountered the ‘a group of 5 is recommended’ notice, I went elsewhere then logged out. It’s not the type of energy or content I was hoping for, so I’m skipping GW today. I’m sure there are other players like me/us out there, too.

Random PuGs are not for everyone. Take my situation, for example. I’m a caregiver. As such, I can AFK with little to no warning, sometimes for extended periods of time, to deal with the person I’m caring for. I’ve often gotten kicked from teams for doing so, so I learned my lesson, and stay solo, or if they are around, with my small group of friends. This isn’t very often, though, and they’re mostly WvWers.

So yes, I feel the sting a bit.

You’re playing a multiplayer game and you’re asking for new content to be singleplayer. Why?

Have you played GW2 before posting this? The forced multiplayer takes up about 10% of the game, if that.

I agree with the OP. Its a pain in the rear to find pickup groups, who squabble and quit halfway. Give me the normal GW2 style “jump in and have a go” ‘solo multiplayer’ anyday.

My thoughts exactly.

That’s it. Just…holiday events are a pain in the donkey, if you don’t particularly like joining up with a random group of people and your guildies are offline. Not saying they’re bad, or unenjoyable; I’m sure the instances are more fun if you have a group, or don’t mind hopping in with a random group.

As it is, I’m finding Toymaker Tixx’s thing in the Grove honestly kind of boring – hordes of enemies and double-digit objectives don’t make a segment fun. They make it take forever – doubly so if, for example, you started with help, and then the help had to head to work (poor planning on our parts, I’ll admit).

I’d like to see a holiday event that works more like a Personal Story section than a dungeon, or perhaps a holiday event that adapts depending on how many people are in the group. Anybody else?

Seriously this is ridiculous, There is one guy who spent 75 dollars trying to get the 4 minis fromt he gift boxes and did not get 1. Why did Arenanet not just sell them in a 4 pack! This is beyoned unfair and goes against everything Arenanet has done with the gem store. I seriously hope people +1 this post so we can get Arenanet to put out a 4-pack sale for the minis. I refuse to spend money on RNG but will 100% spend money on the 4-pack!

Solutions to the mini pet issue

The thing is that 50% of the complaint is the minis from the chest and the other 50% of the complaint is only being able to craft two dungeon minis and having to buy the other 3 via gems. The minis issue is both sides, not one.

My personal solution for the chest minis is to bring back the Halloween system. Make it so we can buy a pack of the three minis (Snowman, Golem, and Elemental) and use the same forge recipe with stuffing to make the Quaggan. People were upset about having to buy the minis twice with halloween but at least there are multiple ways to receive the Quaggan for this event.

My solution for the dungeon minis is to make the dungeons a daily once the LA event begins. Give players that complete the dungeons the same reward for each dungeon daily so everyone has a chance to receive these awesome minis without having to fork out even more gems.

Anet wins because they get gems from the mini pack + another purchase of the same mini if people want to pursue the Quaggan via forge (unless players found him through other means).

Players win because we have various ways to obtain a lot of great minis and can still say, “Hey, I was there! I did the dungeons and I got all these minis. I wanted the rest so I forked out some gems and got the other 4 as well!”

Solutions to the mini pet issue

I think it’s been established that a lot of people aren’t happy with the way festival mini pets are being distributed. There have also been some good suggestions for how to fix it, but I’m worried they’re getting buried in between complaints and complaints about the complaints.

So what I’d like to do is collect them all into 1 thread, and try to find out which ones people like best. So with that as the aim please don’t post in this thread unless you’re offering a solution to the mini pet distribution issue, an improvement to an existing suggestion or voting for your preffered one.

Also just to clarify I’m not referring to the minis you get from the airship dungeon and/or buying direct from the gem store. I’m referring to the ones that come from the gem store chest – the Snowman, Festive Golem and Airship (and by extension the quaggan which you use them to create).

Here are the ideas I’ve seen so far, in no particular order:
1) Make the minis unbound. That way regardless of how they’re originally available everyone will have a chance to get them later on by buying them. It might be a small chance (because they’re rare or expensive or both) but that’s ok.

Some people won’t pay real money for them if this is an option, but other people will buy more in order to sell them and overall it will balance out.

2) Make them either cost real money OR be aquired through luck, not both. This seems to be the root of the issue, as it was with the halloween weapon skins. No one minds paying real money for cosmetic items, no one minds getting them by luck, but paying for the chance to get lucky is too many downsides for the reward to balance it out.

3) We buy a chest and get a bunch of random items, as now. But we are also guarenteed to get a ticket item and can trade a number of tickets for any of the items that come from the chest. So you’ve still got the gambling element, but with a maximum spend. We KNOW that if we open 30 chests, or 52 or whatever amount Anet thinks is reasonable we will have gotten enough tickets to get the item(s) we really want.

I know that there are many of these posts, and we’re not supposed to make multiple threads on the same topic, but the whiners are doing it, so unless we do it as well, it looks like the majority of voices are negative.

I just want to say I’m impressed with the event.

And maybe a short rant.

I don’t understand most (ANY) of the posts that say the event is a failure. It’s the complete opposite. Most of the complaints are laughable, like “OMG EVERYTHING IN THIS GAME IS RNG NOW!” And of course, by ‘everything,’ they mean they haven’t been able to get all the minis or endless/unbreakable items they wanted from gifts or chests. Many of them make exactly this argument: “I tried really hard and I didn’t get what I wanted, ANet is unfair.”

They’re called rewards and achievements for a reason, guys.

Do I love every single aspect of the Wintersday content? No.
Do I have to audacity to think that it should all be catered to my playstyle preferences? No.

That is all.

Happy Wintersday to all you reasonable people out there.

attonita.6327

This is an issue I have with GW2. While I recognize that yes, it would be pretty much impossible to call out your GW1 character by name or gender, I really expected them to be mentioned or referenced at least ONCE in a while. Mostly because 250 years is really not that long ago, and also because you have groups like the Priory and the Order of Whispers around. The Priory is engaged in finding everything about the dragons that they can- it would make sense if they looked into the gw1 hero’s story for helpful information. As for the Order of Whispers, they were THERE when your hero was running around doing all these things, and I have a hard time believing they would have not saved any record of this, particularly since their own leader was involved in the gw1 hero’s story.
I just find it really hard to believe that 250 years ago, a hero killed saved each continent, killed a god, faced the Great Destroyer, fought in Kryta’s revolution, helped Cantha with their afflicted/Ministry of Purity problems, and then subsequently disappeared from all records of history. I know who George Washington was, I know who Genghis Khan was, and if I wanted to I could read the Epic of Gilgamesh, which was written over 2,000 years ago by the ancient Sumerians. Why are the Tyrians so inept at recording history? It feels like there is this giant gap missing in the lore that nobody wants to talk about.

If Arenanet decides that your character never actually existed and it was the work of Mhenlo, Devona, etc., who saved the world I will be really sad. Though I love Mhenlo and everyone, it would make me feel like everything I did in gw1 didn’t actually matter.

Wizards Folly, and the massive tower therein.

in Lore

Posted by: Verteiron.8734

Verteiron.8734

My guess is that the Wizard’s Tower was a leftover from the previous races, which means it could have been Jotun, Mursaat, Seer or Dwarf make. My personal guess would be the Jotun; we know they lived high in the mountains and built “grand enchanted monuments” there. Just a relic of a bygone era, like the Eye of the North itself.

The floating castle in Kryta, I think, is a different matter. We know that some rocks near the Tarnished Coast just… float. In GW:EN we encounter plenty of them, just drifting in the air with no technological or magical apparatus to support them; the floating just seems like an inherent property. An enterprising soul might attach a big chain to one of those, haul it to a more hospitable place and build a castle on it. After that, regardless of your actual magical power, you can bet the locals would call you a wizard…
