Permanent teleport to friend – I never even use the regular ones, but for people who do this could be a good idea. Couldn’t hurt at least, since the functionality is already there the cost to Anet to create it would be minimal.
Permanent sex change – this is already covered by the Total Makeover Kit. It allows you to change everything about your characters appearance except their race. So gender, height, skin colour, face, hair etc.
Uploading your own music – I don’t think they could do this legally without paying a lot of money in fees, since it would be basically broadcasting the song to anyone who comes to the guildhall. If only you could here it it’d be legal, but then you may as well mute the games sound and play the song through another program.
In case you’re wondering yes radio stations, shops, cinemas and other places that play music to the public do have to pay fees, or at least they should. The same is true of websites, although there’s a lot of small sites which get away with breaking the law because they’re not caught. (I always find it amusing when I go to a website for a photographer or something and they’ve gone to extremes to protect their images from being stolen, then stolen a song to play, or sometimes a whole album.)
Unless by ‘your own music’ you mean literally music that person has written and recorded, but I don’t know how they could police that.

Good luck.
I don’t think /rp is a good idea on the grounds that it’d need to be enforced and that’s just more unnecessary traffic for GMs and unnecessary grief targeted at players partaking in activities are are completely within the rules of the game.
So what about just splitting /me from normal visual emotes?
1. Already answered this, none because rpers will still use emote and we are back to square one with people too lazy to use chat tabs.
2. By telling rpers there’s a specific chat channel for them to use so the regular playerbase can filter them out, obviously they are the problem and they need to be regulated to a chat channel instead of people not using chat tabs.
Seriously I’m assuming it’s just willful ignorance at this point that nobody wants to filter it out with a chat tab.
My apologies for being willfully ignorant. Please tell me how to have a chat tab that has all /map, /say, /party, /guild, and normal visual emotes on, with /me emotes off.
Letting normal visual emotes and /me emotes be different doesn’t put anyone in a corner.
So who is really changing their gaming experience for whom here?
Well if emotes and /me emotes could be separated those that wanted to opt-out and still see normal emotes would need to make one change. That is all.
(edited by Miku.6297)
Really, cause the arguement I’m getting is “I like reading map chat but sometimes people spam and troll in it so could we make a separate map chat for them to talk in so I don’t have to make a separate tab for it on the off chance a guild member say hi in map?”
At this point we are going around in circles. And we are not forcing anyone to read emotes, hence Different. Tabs.
And how does the new channel not force them in a corner? Hey use this new channel so we don’t have to see you using -our- emote channel for your niche activity.
But you are IN map chat. Map chat is also not connected to another chat group. Would it be an issue if /guild and /map had to be all on or all off?
You aren’t forcing anyone to read them that’s true. At the same time, do they have a choice if they want to have all normal visual emotes on?
You have still completely avoided my questions…
How much change would it really be to RPers if /me and normal visual emotes were separated so you could turn of /me without turning off emotes? How does this put RPers in a corner?

Yea, Stale, that’s kind of what I’m getting from this too.
Please explain the solution for rpers wanting to keep using emotes and not be shoved into a corner because someone on a forum made a post about it? I really don’t see the reason why rpers should be punished for using in game tools. You have an Anet employee suggesting tabs in this very thread, is that not indicative of their stance on it?
And there would be no change since rpers would use emotes anyway and we are back to square one with people not wanting to use tabs. Unless you want to make a thread on the gw2rp forums about it and get their opinions, but we both know how that will go.
How exactly does allowing /me to be turned off while normal visual emotes remain on shove RPers into a corner?
If /me could be turned off and normal emotes left on it would literally have NO negative impact on RPers, they wouldn’t have to change a single thing. Those that didn’t want to see the /me emotes would simply opt out.
How ever the issue of people not being able to turn off just the custom /me emotes while leaving standard emotes on would be solved, thus solving the issue. So it’s certainly not “back to square one”
(edited by Miku.6297)
I agree with reducing emote range as it is currently far too large. What I don’t agree with however is the rp channel itself because the only argument for it is “I shouldn’t have to change my gaming experience and use different tabs, the rp community is a minority and therefore should change to accommodate me instead.”
Avian minis! I want the kitten raven finally
They did add a few new pets with Heart of Thorns but I’d like to see some more added.
It’s hard to suggest anything without knowing what region/s will be in the new expansion. But one day I’d love to see the phoenix/rainbow phoenix from GW1 make a return.

Have you never wondered why some of the ejections are almost immediate, and some are delayed? It’s the time it takes to travel (underground) from the entrance (Hop in) tube to the exit tube. The animation is like Wurms or Dredge traveling underground or the sonic tunneler (if I remember the tunneler right). The tubes do point in the correct direction so the art is not backwards. Plus, there are arrows on the map (mini) that show the trajectory path.
You get sent into the air AFTER you travel a short distance underground. Each lava tube comes in a “pair”, one is the entrance and the other one is the exit. You go in the entrance, travel underground a short distance from the entrance to the exit, then get launched into the air by the exit part of the tube.
The delay between entering a tube and getting launched into the air is actually you travelling underground between the two. And as said, you see a little particle effect and hear a tunneling sound effect at that point as well, its just sometimes hard to see depending on your camera angle. Much easier to see when someone else is using the tubes. Go stand around near one of the frequently used tubes and watch as people enter them, and you’ll see it.
Make no mistake, Gliding is, and may for always be, the best Mastery.
The second best?? Laval Tubes.
Oh my… they are lovely. Now, this is even after it took me several days to ‘grok’ the visual of them (you go in one end….. travel to the other end…. and pop out). For some reason, I never got the visual, and was quite confused that the art asset was “backwards” from where you were being ejected from. Then I realized I was dumb a.f. and there is even a little particle effect as you travel underground.
ANYWAYS….. the tubes are aweome. I wish the demise of 80% of all WayPoints in the world to be replaced by some regionally thematic “tube” because they are that much better than teleporting.
As far as the rest of the masteries? Well…. Jumping Mushrooms are “neat” but they don’t make much lore sense that you would need to mastery…. it’s just a trampoline (sorry Olympians). The adrenal shrooms could be cool, but they are never where you would actually give a ho—ha about them… so…….. mehhhhhhhhh.
The ‘Apple’ should have been the final tier of the Core Tyria ones (imo).
The rest of the masteries are poo.
BUT!!!
The Tubes almost make up for all the crappy masteries!! ohhh how I love the tubes….
(edited by Zoe.8310)
You do travel underground from the ‘Hop in’ lava tube to the ‘eject’ lava tube. You have to face your camera towards the ‘eject’ tube to see the animation. =)
I know we already got 2 skar skins for the face and two new amputated skins, but how about some more skar skins? Something as chest piece? Either without clothes and really big & ugly scars or some fresh bleeding scars or normal cloth skins that are ripped apart revealibg scars on the skin! (Optional withe cloth with red blood)

it honestly amazes me folks are complaining yet at the same time not. There are better places to craft too, like in Ebonhawke. I don’t think that you’ll really need to be worrying about reading say or emotes while crafting..
I can understand wanting to block rpers who ERP or are doing other reasonably weird crap. Otherwise..shouldn’t be a bad simple read. Or just move yourself.

I agree Dj, I think the issue is some people are taking the term “channel” in a really negative way. I totally agree a special command or “channel” that could be turned off for all rp style emotes would be the best solution. It would just be modified /me command or channel that could be filtered on and off at players choice.
Plus, emote channel is the most likely one to get spammed. And not by RP’ers. I can’t even recall all the times I’ve been in LA (where I spend a lot of time) and I just get a 3 minute wall of grey text saying “XxInsecure Player xX is busting out some moves. Some sweet sweet dance moves” as someone repeatedly starts and stops dancing. Because reasons I guess.
All the more reason to QoL the emote text to include clickable report/block names, like with /say.
And Miku’s suggestion of a separate channel/command is spot on. Those who are interested will keep it, those who aren’t will do the smart thing and shut the /rp channel off, while keeping /emote so they can see some game notifications. And those trolling the channel will be obvious, and thus easier to report (with clickable names in emotes).
It also does give legitimacy to RP as a play experience. If left on by default, it could signal interested players to finding roleplaying spots, and those who aren’t interested in hearing all of Rata Sum making out can unclick the channel and not worry about regularly blocking people. So would this RP channel be a zone wide chat, emote 2.0 or what?
Miku’s suggestion was /emote2.0, so the same (smaller) range and display, but moving it to its own channel, like you would have for /map or /squad. Fully opt-in or opt-out, which is better for everyone.
For me, I’d probably keep a chat tab with /map and /rp so I can occasionally glance and see what’s going on without losing my /emote notices from my main tab.
And +1 to Donari’s suggestion. Get rid of the grey and let the RP folks have some color in their /rp emotes.

“I’m finding companies should sell access to forums,

My resistance above to an RP channel was based on my perhaps faulty assumption that the channel would be akin to Map chat, ie zone wide. If it instead has a /say range but acts like /em in that it puts the character’s name at the start, I’d love it. Then emotes could remain their boring dull grey wide-radius selves and /rp comments could replace them, mixed with /say since sometimes one doesn’t want to describe an action, one merely wants to comment, and since about any color would be better than that grey, we’d get readable rp emotes!
Snip. Something about lumps.
I wasn’t lumping you with anything.
You asked me a simple question: What is wrong with RPers being given such and such a thing.
My answer was: Because it’s usually not RPers asking for such and such a thing.
That’s it. You took it personally when i wasn’t addressing any player at all. I said usually which I explained to you two replies ago. Because this isn’t the first anti-RP thread on these forums, and it won’t be the last.
I give up on the rest, I’m off to go RP.
The RP channel would not do a single thing to prevent the issue the OP is talking about and if anything might make it worse since it might result in more RP since it will make organizing the public and non guilded RPers a lot easier.
So I say make the channel if Anet wants to, but lol if you think it will be used for actual RP. /say and /e is where it will always be unless of course Anet goes full potato and bans it and then we will see a mass exodus of RPers. I’d probably jump off a roof with my pants on my head thinking I could fly too since in that world everything is kitten backwards.
Oh, and as for the "singling out RP’ers thing,: I really don’t have anything against RP people. I’m singling you out, yes. But because this is a forum thread specifically about RP. So, don’t make assumptions about me being hostile, please. If this were a thread about just people being vulgar, RP would not have even crossed my mind.
Yea well, but the problem is offensive speech. RP’ing isn’t against the rules, vulgar speech is. Just because vulgar speech is used in some RP’ing, it doesn’t casually relate the two. If you nip the problem of offensive speech by making all forms easily reportable and blocked then, there is no problem. Why would you attack RP’ers that have nothing to do with it? If 5 people in a row with blue shirts insulted you, do you go find a way to ban people from wearing blue shirts? (Hint: Kittens are kittens regardless of shirt color)
And really, there’s only so much they can do. If one is really thinking about preemptively censoring people just because they might offend, then I suggest turning off everything except party/whispers, and maybe not even that.
But then again, you can tell by the emotionally charged nature of this thread, that rational thinking is secondary. I think it’s very easy to direct frustration at anything associated with it. Nothing wrong with that, but sometimes it’s better to have people that are a bit distanced from the whole thing.
I don’t have any emotional investment in the matter. A lot of this RP makes me cringe, however the ones in Rata Sum make me laugh simply because they are just so unusual that it provides something else over the dreariness of emptying out inventory. Forcing them to be in their own channel would probably make some days for me dimmer, honestly.
And I do report the occasional immature edgelord for sprouting out garbage.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

1 – Bring down the emote range to /say.
2 – Give an option to disable custom emotes (/e /me).
That first suggestion I think everyone agrees with, RPer and Non-RPer alike.
That second suggestion is actually a very good idea, if possible to impliment.
1 – Bring down the emote range to /say.
2 – Give an option to disable custom emotes (/e /me).
Why anyone would have emotes on if they are not an RPer is beyond me. Friends still do the “Hey! Over here!” wave on your screen so you know they are waving at you and you don’t get “Silver Invader laughs” spammed 20x in WvW, but you do you. I’ll be over here enjoying the game and RP.
For example because guildies and friends always greets me with a /wave and I always have something open on my screen (TP, bank) if I’m somewhere like the Terrace so I never see the animation, but I see the message.
Turning off emotes is not an option for me. Those two fixes would fix all problems.
Those are the best solutions. I spent all of 10 seconds thinking them up so you know they are good!
But honestly the way RP works (a lot of people are clueless so sorry if I’m repeating known stuff) is we need to be semi public. If we are not we die out. Just like any aspect of the game we have turnover. We also need our own little sandboxes to play in. Public sandboxes that others can join us in, but if we had just one big box it would be chaos and unreadable.
We can hope Anet will do those suggestions, but in the end they are not too keen on throwing RPers a bone. Though this is more of a non RPer request… so I dunno.
Turning off emotes is an option since it is literally in the chat settings you just choose not to use it like I choose not to go private and let my community die off. You could also just ignore me and my kind. I won’t be heartbroken.
