Why did ANet name a profession "thief"?

Because the class thief has always traditionally been a profession in the RPG genre, dating way back to early fantasy novels and early table top role playing game such as D&D, A-Net decided to take a traditional path when they chose the professions for this game.

Well in literature or films or games several normaly criminal acts a depicted as romantic or adventurous. Think about the picture of pirates and compare it to some news about nowadays pirates. It’s robbery. Have you never seen films about bankrobbery? The cools guys with the incredible smart plan?

Also the view on war and violence in general is often highly romanticised in games or films. So I don’t think that thiefs have the same negative meaning in a roleplay context as they have in real life.

Umm… Becouse a Thief is a Thief.
They don’t have to be stealthy in this game so assasin should be the wrong name. The sub-category of a Thief could be Assasin but if you trait yourself outside shadow arts… Go for no stealth and venoms instead and you may be umm… A defiler :P
A rogue is more of a vanderer, someone who have learned to live on the streets… The word Rogue suits no better just becouse it is used in WoW.
But something that will always be there is the ability to steal and what classes steal stuff?

Because one of their profession mechanics is “Steal.”

Then that would also be part of my question as well. It is inherently incriminating, and I question the nature of Tyrian society where profession like such is regarded “acceptable.”

Clearly a person who doesn’t understand the nature of the post. You call my question a demand for “nerf”? Dear god…

Thief is fine. Would you have preferred, Robber? Burglar? Bandit? Caper? I didn’t think so. Thieves are all about the stealth, and the challenge.

Imagine a parallel universe where the Thief was originally named Caper.

“Caper is fine. Would you have preferred Robber? Burglar? Bandit? Thief? I didn’t think so.” Nice confirmation bias right there =)

I remember back in the early days of Ultima Online people could actually be thieves by using their stealth skill to open other players’ inventories and try to take items.

Can you imagine the amount of paranoia and rage if thieves can nick your legendary out of your inventory?

Add “Disco Inferno – by The Trammps” to the stun phase of the Tequatl the Sunless encounter. It would make it so much more immersive and motivational to defeat such a big opponent.

“CAPS LOCK/TOGGLE

best key ever

as caps lock is a toggle on/off key, you can map it to highlight items & objects

At least until other options are availlable.

Checked it in game, you won’t be linking skills this way.

Pressing a key doesn’t seem like a lot of work to me, and certainly not gamebreaking. Chests and nodes, etc. should be “looked for” and not handed on a silver platter IMO that is part of the fun “Finding”. I don’t understand the reasoning for “the game should be doing by itself”.

One is an annoyance, not only because of its frequency, but also because it is an immersion breaker (the golem). The regular character dialogues are simply overused – not immersion breaking and not intentionally annoying.

Verily, a stereotypical golem voice on a piece of equipment that clearly involves Asuran technology is immersion breaking.

Annoying? Certainly. Along with cries about Grape Justice, Grenth’s Spicy Embrace, and Summoning the Wins.

But immersion breaking, it is not.

Dear Gaile,

first of all i want to let you know how much we appreciate that someone like you
finally starts talking to us.
Communication in GW2 forum is one of the worst jobs on this planet and you are still polite and very dedicated. Thumbs up

But i noticed something and was wondering how and why you give your answers.
They usually remind me always of my customer relations classes in economy at University.
It always starts with assuring the talk partner you acknowledged his opinion or complaint. But then you make sure the topic is moving somewhere else.
That remind me of my political classes….

So i would like to know why we don’t get any answers relating to a topic.
You know what i mean and i say this with the most respect.

A typical conversation example would be….. (just made up)

“Players:
Dear A-Net i am unhappy with recent content and would like to know,
do you plan new Dungeons or Expansions

Gaile:
Dear player thank you for your most important question.
We here at A-Net are absolutely aware of your thoughts and i can assure you
that we talk about these topics.
In fact we had a meeting yesterday talking about it.

The meeting went well and we had some catering with amazing cookies.
They had some powder sugar on top and had kind of a vanilla flavor.
My husband used to bake them like that. If someone is interested i can send out the recipes…………………….
Someone else has a question ?? "

I know you people have a tough time to deal with some strange people in here.
But i am absolutely sure that a majority of people looking for answers
can handle any answers coming back.

When people ask for weapons or what ever….. why can’t you answer
“No, we don’t plan new weapons or Yes, we are already working on it”

I know you since the GW1 days and you are actually known for going AFK to get some answers from higher authorities before coming back.

What happened………… why is even the the most plain and simple stuff turning into excuses ???
When people asked for communications, they actually asked for answers not
for random communications.

I say all that in a most polite way and want to make sure you are not offended by any meanings because this was not my intention.
I just want to point out that the community is able to handle direct answers
and that a healthy relationship must be strong enough to handle answers we or A-Net
don’t like.

I/we would appreciate it when more direct answers are coming our way.

Thank you for your time

A big fan since GW1

I’m glad we can’t use our weapon skills while in death shroud. Death shroud skills are half the reason to use it and create very real choices made on a moment-to-moment basis.

I already get a headache from people writing “:)” or “)” after everything. It’s kinda like saying “Look, I am happy, do not misunderstand me!” after your every sentence. It’s annoying overexposure.

Subtlety is a virtue.

It’s not like saying “I am happy”… it’s like smiling while talking. Emoticons are to convey the non-verbal parts of spoken conversation, in a medium that only allows text. Of course, they can be overused… just like people can be overly emotive while they’re speaking.

Complaints of Tera bossfight?

“I keep getting one shotted.”
“It’s unfair for melee.”
“I’ve fallen and I can’t get up”
“I can’t handle challenges.”

but for real why are people complaining about the boss fight? I mean I went in clueless of what was awaiting me with a Guardian with GS/Sword/Focus with a support build. The process of killing the Teragriff was rather difficult with only Sword 3 and Focus 1 as my only range abilities. However, I got through it and found it fun. I hope I’m not the only one.

The thing is, how do you think Mordremoth is spreading his vines through Tyria? We know that all the vines are part of his body, after all. So does every vine lead directly to him, or does Mordy send larger vines into major regions which then form something like cluster roots from which the smaller vines originate?
If we look at the labyrinth as just that, it would make sense for so many vines to be in one place. The fact that A-Net made this cluster explorable just adds some more gameplay elements.
That’s why I personally think that labyrinth actually fits into the setting. The only thing that bothers me a bit is that we never got a lore-related reason to collect these nightmare fragments.

Good Job Anet!

I understand everyone has a different opinion regarding the update, and sure I think its a bit too short of a story, but I really did like the gameplay of it. To each his own but I just wanted to let Anet know they are getting some things right. I am equally honest when they are doing something wrong.
