As I see it, the OP doesn’t seem to be responding to the thought out comments on threads out there. It appears to me, that he is addressing the very very few, minority players who are unreasonable in their complaints. I notice the warrior defenders here have ignored the more thought out and reasonable complaints.

None of the his post address some of the trait combinations that are over powered when used with certain weapons and so on. It seems to me, that it would benefit some of the warrior community to branch out and level the other professions, because most of their statements are made based on the warrior in a vacuum, and appear to display little, to no knowledge, of how they compare to the other professions , when it comes to being able to accomplish various goals with in the game itself.

The issues players are actually complaining about, are not so much profession specific, but are actual only problematic in the context of certain builds. It is the builds that become common and thus, used by so many, that have the uninformed poster, speaking as if those build represent the warrior as a whole.

The key here is opportunity cost. People feel that warriors don’t need to sacrifice as much to gain something. I can’t talk about warriors or confirm this due to lack of experience, but I’ll just take your engineer example. Engineers CAN indeed clear conditions very well and certainly they can beat necros with a 409 build, but Guild Wars 2 is almost never about just 1v1 situations and I would think a hgh/409 build is significantly weaker in other matchups because you lose out on so much kit utility that is one of the strength of the engineer— some would argue you could just play another class at that point. You’re at the very least putting 4-6 in alchemy and sacrificing traits like backpack regen, invigorating speed, or protection injection. I doubt the expert engineers have simply ignored this choice.

If we compare to other classes that are worse off, we can see rangers that need to spend about 6 points just to have longbow not be useless, 6 to have signets actually work, and about 8 to have shouts be usable. Well, that’s not completely accurate at times, but if we look at what doesn’t work, such as rangers, you can see classes give up a lot to accomplish anything. A DPS guardian is made of glass and a bunker guardian pretty much has to invest almost everything in the lower 3 trees.

So I think that’s what people are complaining about that certain other classes have to pigeonhole themselves into something or more like many of the other classes are just badly designed.

Then again, I sometimes wonder in general if people have even played the class they complain about that much.

You seem to missunderstand having a weakness with being able to do things. Yes warrior cant burst out heavy single target long range damage like mesmer and engineer, yes they dont have a crapton of combo field like eles, yes they cant spam blindness and evade like a thief, but that arent weaknesses. They cant be used or exploitet against the warrior in any fighting situation at all. You can call them drawbacks but not weaknesses.
If i ask for a weakness i want to hear the weakness and not be basically told “hey look, they could be even more op”

Stat Combos

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

DiogoSilva.7089

Some stat combos with 4 stats distributed instead of 3
Note: total stat count should still be equal to 3-stat combos.

This benefits professions that rely on more stats the most, like the elementalist or the guardian, who generally want to have healing power or vitality in addition to their other specializations. This is especially important when moving those combos to pvp’s amulets, and even more so now that jewels are being removed.

  • (Main) Power – (very minor) Toughness, Vitality, Healing Power;
  • (Main) Power – (very minor) Precision, Toughness, Healing Power;
  • (Main) Power – (very minor) Precision, Toughness, Vitality;

More stat combos that enhance support or control builds
Note: unfortunately, there are not many stats that support those roles…

  • (Main) Healing Power – (Minor) Boon Duration, Toughness;
  • (Main) Healing Power – (Minor) Boon Duration, Precision;
  • (Main) Boon Duration – (Minor) Any;
  • (Main) Condition Duration – (Minor) Any;

How about all of them? Select the primary stat, then select the secondary and tertiary stats (no duplicates, of course). Sure, this would change crafting and ascended boxes a lot… but it’s a lot better than receiving a couple of nearly useless stat combos every year.

If that’s too much to ask, how about some combination of Healing Power, Boon Duration and Condition Damage?

On a personal note: I still hate you for what you did to Angorodon’s Gaze, Izzy. -.-

Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

The Pact justification

in Lore

Posted by: Kalavier.1097

Kalavier.1097

This….still makes absolutely no sense. Ok you want to lazily have the pact say ’it’s not our business’…but remember who they made the player become? The COMMANDER of the pact? So the commander of the pact is running about saving a city from ruin but couldn’t command even a small unit of the pact to….I don’t even….sigh.

It’s this sort of thing why I say the storytelling in gw2 is just abysmal and seems to want to contradict everything the player does (especially anything related to the personal story). I won’t even get into the ‘logics’ behind making the person whose wyld hunt is to NOT kill an elder dragon, create and lead a pact that killed an elder dragon (…well he technically didn’t kill the dragon but that’s what it’ll be written as-first born created pact and kill elder dragon) while the firstborn WITH the hunt did…well…kinda nothing.

Every time I start thinking about gw2’s story I become even more and more annoyed -__-

Trahearnes Wyld hunt was to cleanse Orr. He had the most knowledge of Orr compared to anybody else. IIRC, Caithe’s Wyld hunt was to kill the dragon as well (or dragons). And she was present at Arah. Trahearne never took credit so I don’t see him getting credit for it other then “He helped form the Pact, which did defeat Zhaitan.”

Also, AGAIN. You and others seem to be missing this giant, glaring, NEON SIGN fact.

Orders make up Pact manpower. Orders were present at Lions Arch and other events in force. Player character is a high ranking member of the order AND second in command of the Pact. Again, the only thing that the Pact didn’t send (in technicality) was it’s leadership elements and heavy gear.

I’m getting amazed at how people can’t understand this SIMPLE fact….

Claw Island gets taken, the three orders meet up. Player suggests pooling resources. Order leaders ponder who could command it (That wouldn’t show clear favoritism). Player Suggets Trahearne, a neutral but respected guy who knows a LOT about Orr and Risen. Order leaders accept.

Pact is formed with the various orders making up the manpower (while still keeping their home forces and actions under Order control) Pact goes on to kill/defeat Zhaitan (depending on your point of view).

LA gets attacked. Orders respond with lots of aid in manpower and getting refugee camps set up. They help reclaim the city aiding the Lionguard.

SO, Yes. Trahearne didn’t order the Pact to storm in. BUT HE DIDN’T HAVE TO. The local order forces (lead by the order leaders) helped the Lionguard in large enough forces to retake the city once the Miasma cleared out. Scarlet took the city in one night/day. We can assume it took a day for the Miasma to clear out, then another to get into the breachmaker and kill Scarlet. Then you have several days of cleanup and all which leads us to the timeline given by an npc medic. ONE WEEK.

I like the amount of people that don’t RP saying that having a bunch of non-RPers populating a map, more so than there are already, isn’t a bad thing. Trolling is a very real, and veeeeeeeeeeery annoying thing. Imagine, if you will, trying to go to sleep after a long day, but as soon as you shut your eyes over, someone comes along and slams a book on your face. And this happens for upwards or an hour before their arm gets tired and they go away. And imagine further that this happens on an almost daily basis, to the point where you question the life choices of that person doing so. I mean, sure, we’re not playing a game in the most traditional sense, but someone who only has the objective to annoy other people who choose to follow this route for several hours a week has something seriously wrong with them.

That aside, we all know that ANet doesn’t really care much about us Roleplayers. Do you really expect them to factor into their Megaserver system the people that sit and RP all day? How does that even work? On top of that, not every RPer is ALWAYS on that home server. Many guest, so they can have the benefits of a better WvW server, for example. Will it take that into consideration? I’m just saying that this Megaservers stuff is only going to make the lives of RPers more of a hassle, but nobody really gives a kitten because we’re largely a minority.

While we’re on this topic, by the way, kitten ANet, fix the sitting, kneeling and sleeping emotes so we’re not just clipping through stuff like mad. Oh, and more emotes, please. That would also be nice. And for the love of all that is holy, sittable chairs. Oh! And allow us to report people for interrupting RP. Seriously, you might not think it’s a problem, but we do, as stated above.

i would like to see a video of you running trough a dungeon with your guild without any support.

i cant believe people still dont understand that support is not depending on gear in this game. support in gw2 is defined by your weapons, traits and utilities.

You have no idea what you’re talking about do you? Take two seconds to do a youtube search and you can find thousands of videos of people running every single dungeon path in the game not only with no support, but with five zerkers, or even naked.

I have never even once seen a single dungeon run where support was warranted, let alone required. Maybe high level fractals, which have never interested me, but I’ve done speed runs in every path of every single dungeon but Arah and TA and never seen anybody request any type of support. You won’t find people refusing support either, except the full zerker groups, but nobody asks for support.

Granted I still have run support in dungeons, because I have several dungeon support builds that are a blast to play, and I don’t play for efficiency’s sake. But to say it’s required is laughable, you can bring whatever you want in dungeons and live so long as you have enough dodge uptime to avoid all damage, so yes because of that any build can enter a dungeon. But damage and dodge gets it done faster. And to say it is required can frankly only be said by one completely blind or ignorant to all of GW2s largest design flaws.

… for mediocore changes. The “big and great” feature patch so far is, removing the most minimal ever appearing costs in the game, repairs, that didn’t hurt even the every time dying newbies (not like traveling costs, that noone really cares about later). Free trait resets are mentioned TWICE in 2 separate blogposts, once it says you can do it for free anywhere, and the other says again you can do it for free. WvW exp and highend items being account wide is also represented as the most glorious thing ever done, but let’s face it, it’s just a “fix” that should have been done ages ago and takes minimal effort. I’m not a programmer, but I imagine it’s a swich on some devkit UI if an item is soulbound or account bound. The new traits are a nice addition, that’s for sure, but won’t make an impact on the game, not on their own. I expected many more changes (especially under title “removing restrictions”), like weapons that can be used in only main hand, can be used in offhand or something. That would have been the very minimal of my expectations. The wardrobe is also nice.

I must say, I’m happy to see the game changing and upgrading, but this is very very far from enough, to keep me playing. Most of the changes are aimed for newcomers.

Wardrobe? Great! I already have all the skins I wanted, I had 1.5 years to collect them. 0 new armor added.

Trait resets? Great! Now it saves me 30 seconds when I change between PvE and WvW. New traits added, this is done well – speaking in general, not about how good / bad those traits are.

WvW EXP and high end gear acc wide? Great! It’s a minor fix and changes nothing for those who already had this kind of stuffs. Those who have a legendary on a character are certainly very dedicated to that character, and it’s a welcome addition to allow item transfer between alts. But I can’t say it enough times this is a change so minimal, it is simply impossible to match the expactations that are based on the hype ANet built up, via speaking so highly about this patch, plus the lacking communication when people went to theorycrafting and wishes about new weapon skills etc. that should have been in a patch presented a way like this one.

More detailed LFG tool? Seriously? This is worth an entire day’s blogpost? I was propably hard to write more than 2 lines about it. A change that should have been mentioned as a sidenote somewhere, not as a “look at our hard hard work!”. I could appriciate it, if it would not be – again – presented as something fantastic. This is a minor fix.

Reworked runes, sigils. This is the big one, something I say easily lived up to the hype. I cannot say much until I tried the new system, but it definitly sounds like a great, fundamental change that REALLY required hard work and balancing, and has a big impact on everyday gameplay. Something I don’t really do, since the content didn’t really expanded since relase. But that’s another topic, about why changes to gameplay doesn’t matter to those who don’t play at all because they’ve seen everything already, many times.

Greatsword Stance?

in Human

Posted by: Templar.3418

Templar.3418

I prefer the female stance over the male stance.

One thing to note is that it’s not totally being dragged on the floor… you’d have to be one strong freaking woman to hold it that low in a position like that, dear god.

In my experience it’s actually fairly easy to hold it that way. The higher you hold it the harder it is to carry.

Too much nerding it out in the back yard with me weapon…/nolife

Don’t like how my character has his weapon behind him and most of his body facing towards the enemy though. Kinda asking to get hit/stabbed w/e.

Anyone play Dark Souls 2 lately? A stance similar to the way the character holds a broadsword/longsword with two hands in that game would be okay. It’s a fairly neutral stance. The character also needs to look aggressive with the bent legs and wide stance ready to act look.

I’d pay for that stance Anet.

Edit: Just in case anyone wants to know, the female stance is a real stance. It’s called the tail/long tail/dragons tail stance. Plus all the other names I’m sure it has.

I wish female humans held it like that, the way they drag greatswords behind them is sort of dumb…

I don’t have any experience with greatswords… But come on, dragging it with you is in no way practical in combat :P. You leave yourself completely open to attacks , and no matter how fast you are, you won’t be parrying anything from that position. Not even a super slow guy trying to hit you with one of those weights that you have to lift , that is actually too heavy for him to use :P.

Then again, I never held, or see anyone hold/use a greatsword. I’d imagine they’re at least twice as heavy as an average sword, though.

Anyone inexperienced or lacking the strength or co-ordination to use one will be slow.
Compare the strength of a person who has only just begun lifting weights to someone who has been lifting for years. The ole gym veteran can lift way more weight up with ease that the newbie can’t even get off the ground. Thus being able to move more weight faster. Also there is your body knowing how to react through practice and such/experience. A boxer can throw a punch way faster than someone who does not train or is not as experienced. When it comes to bigger weapons more strength and training = more speed.

Plus many great swords are only around 3-7 kgs or something around those numbers.

This is through my experience and logic. Though someone might tell you something different.

It’s because GW2 ANet wants you to see the cultural diversity of this game in the Charr, Norn, Asura, Sylvari, Kodan, Tengu, Quaggan, etc. and not in the human cultures.

They want you to set aside the intra-human cultural distinctions of GW1 because it would be unfair to the new playable races that humans have such a rich history.

They are trying to create an entirely new cultural fabric of Tyria where “species” are important, not “ethnicity”, because this is what they want GW2 Tyria to be now.

They own the rights to the game and can do whatever the heck they want. And they want cats, rats, plants, giant humans, bears, hawks, manatees, etc.

Krytans are white because they think it’s a neutral(and safe) tone.

The average human is not white.

He never stated that.

You should be careful with that “never”. The pilgrims of the Crystal Desert who build the ancient cities there under the leadership of the Ghostly Hero were quite aggressive towards the Forgotten. Then there’s the White Mantle’s rather uncaring push through the southern Shiverpeaks killing just about anything in the way.

The Elonians in the Crystal Desert were there trying to Ascend. The Forgotten were in the way. A case of the ends justifying the means for them. The Mantle were under orders from the Mursaat. The Mursaat wanted Chosen for fodder on the Door of Komalie. Pretty simple really.

And on the other side, it’s not charr in general – it was the Flame Legion leadership and coercion of the other groups. That much got made evident with Pyre – he could care less about killing humans. Derisive, sure, but he was much much more interested in killing the shamans.

It was the Charr in general. The Flame Legion thing was a construct of the GW2 writers to shift the entirety of the blame on them, nothing more. Can’t have a whole playable race as genocidal in a game with no factions. So they create this artificial evil minority who’s really behind all the hate and voila…instant get-out-of-jail-free card for most Charr. I really don’t see how that’s hard to see.

And if the charr were genocidal, they would have continued on after Ascalon (again). Which they didn’t.

They didn’t because they were slated to be a playable race in GW2, how do you not see that?

You’re twisting facts.

Ascalon was never Charr homeland until GW2 writers wrote it in last year…perhaps to quiet these forums, who knows.

Humans never tried to eradicate the Charr, the gods brought them to Ascalon to settle and humans stopped there. They could have cared less about them beyond Ascalon.

Humans never burned Charr prisoners alive for enjoyment…

The Foefire, and modern Adelbern for that matter, are not accurate representations of the Ascalon kingdom. It was written that way to give the Charr some moral footing in settling Ascalon for GW2.

Humans were never genocidal, Charr were.

Unshakable and Defiance ~ The bane of PvE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pandeh.5248

Pandeh.5248

Recent or rather not so recent information about critical damage nerfs has brought up a lot of discussion and it really does not solve anything at all. It hurts more armor stats than the berserker and it also affects traits, foods and etc. All in all it just closes the gap between the different gear types and brings nothing new to the table.

You can’t have another meta in GW2 PvE as long as conditions works as they do and the name of the topic;

Defiance
Unshakable

We will never see a improvement of fun game play in GW2 as long as all bosses have anti fun mechanics like these. CC simply just does not work, conditions lasts for a fraction of the original duration, you get 1-3/4 shot depending on gear/boons/profession.

What this leaves is DPS, there is no other valid play style due to these two buffs on meaningful enemies in the game. This is mainly a issue in dungeons, but it also comes into play for smaller group combat vs champions.

If they were removed over night in a patch, yes it would of been broken. Since the AI we fight have next to zero skills, all they do is hit for a four digit plus number.

Let’s assume they add counter measures and a varied amount of different stun breakers with a medium cooldown to these bosses.

This would of open variety of tactic, builds and even conditions would be viable in dungeons.

Simply having these two mechanics in the game is just showing how there is a deeper issue than simply zerkers being the best DPS.

If we had proper enemies without the bad mechanics mentioned above we would of not need to nerf specific stats. Make our abilities do more than dealing X damage to the enemy and we would see quite a different meta, or at least a viable different one.

My thoughts on why PvE is boring to me, I just simply can’t use my abilities because all the meaningful mobs have god mode hack to counter anything other than pure DPS making it feel very dull and repetitive.

Can someone explain stacking?

AtriustheGod.6785

What you’re experiencing is what I would call the “meta trickledown effect” This happens in just about every multiplayer online game with any level of depth.

1. The pros of the game analyze everything, do math, and figure out the effectiveness of a particular strategy.
2. The people who pay attention to the pros realize the genius of the idea and adopt it. These people have enough skill and understanding of the game to make it work.
3. Those people are seen using it, so more people assume that’s what you’re supposed to do and start trying it.
4. Eventually it’s considered “just what you’re supposed to do” and people without the understanding why or the skill to back it up still attempt to utilize it and fail miserably.
5. Other people enter in on these failed attempts and can’t understand why it’s considered the “best strategy”

Personally, I feel that newcomers to dungeons need to discover for themselves why berserker gear, LoSing and stacking are effective. I know I had to discover just how drastic the number difference was (500% or more overall DPS between Berserker and Sentinel), not to mention I had to develop the skill to dodge all the attacks with less HP and toughness. It requires a level of skill, and newcomers just don’t have that level of skill and shouldn’t attempt it until they are extremely familiar with the game’s mechanics.

Almost no other classes have this build diversity which is why the warrior new GM traits are lackluster. They don’t need to be more OP than they already are.
