that humans being skinny is part of the lore? I mean, it is a fantasy rpg and they never said that humans were the same as us. Lol I dunno. Nothing to get stressed about.

Or it’s a more ‘medival’ setting which involved lots more physical activity, meaning more people are ‘fit’ compared to modern day.

And all player characters do a lot of physical activity, so they’d be at least somewhat fit/athletic and not fat.

120 sec cooldown for 6 sec boon = balance?

Thats Guardian Sanctuary.

It actually doesn’t apply a boon, but it heals you and allies, blocks projectiles and prevents foes from entering.

80 second cooldown for 10 second duration boon = balance?
Thats Guardian Hallowed Ground…

It pulses 2 seconds of stability 10 times. That means if you stand in it for the full duration, you’ll have stability for a total of 20 seconds. The same counts for your allies who stand in it.

Thief - combat mobility is too much

You are not squish if you can evade all damage including channeling ^^ with 5 possibilities to reset combat per minute.

food for thought.

no, you remain squishy.

thief is the ultimate “all or nothing” profession. either we kill really fast, or we’re dead meat. either we completely null the damage coming to us, or we’re dead.

so yes, it’s a profession with a bunch of evades and blinds, because the moment a hit slips through, we’re one foot in the grave already. god help us if a condi necro manages to land some attacks.

other classes can take those hits to the face and walk away, unless they’re eles/guards (the other two low base HP professions) on a glassy build. but thief only has the option of a glassy build. and those eles/guards also have active defenses of their own, on top of damage better mitigation.

so i’ll tell you the same thing i told OP: if thief mobility is so unfair, try playing one without using the mobility and tell me how long you last.

Stop being so logical. The forum is too busy crying that we didn’t side with the child going into brat mode.

I don’t know why I bother, but I’ll say it once again: The main complaint here was the lack of any option to have your own personality. The fact that people disagree on whether to side with Taimi is testament to why personality options are good.

You would expect this sort of “can’t do anything about it” character disagreement from a TV show or a book, not a video game.

No, the main complaint I see here looks to be more like “Why can’t I completely screw over the summit and kitten off the Asura rep who agreed to possibly come to the meeting. kitten thieving adults robbing from disabled children. CURSE THEM ALL!”

I can see possibly talking about granting more rights to Taimi over it, or at least making sure she’s involved in any tech problems about it… but I’m seeing people saying they’d rather completely lose the Asura race support instead of having Taimi give up a device.

THEORY: Why the focus on the Pale Tree?

The focus is on the Pale Tree right now because Mordremoth is a plant-affecting Elder Dragon.

Also, there may or may not be “A Very Bad Idea” in the summit being gathered right there where the only thing keeping Mordremoth at bay is the Pale Tree’s will.

I wanted to smack Taimi upside the head when she had her tantrum. Tyria depends upon WPs and her narcissism (seemingly the nature and nurture of Asurans) could have cost Tyria dearly. We could have lost both the device and and Taimi. Her behavior is classic Mary Sue.

As commander, I would give her lecture on war profiteering…

I’m loving the fact everybody is being so high and mighty and not considering the very fact of the two results that could be made from this.

A: Taimi keeps her device. Phlunt doesn’t attend the summit, the support of the Asura doesn’t get given and we lose that much help and aid.
B: Taimi loses her device, but Phlunt attends the summit and we have the chance to get the full Asura aid.

I’m sorry, but threatening Phlunt makes us lose Asura aid. siding with Taimi does the same thing. Yes, we might want her to keep it but the PC in universe should be smart enough to see it’s a sacrifice that MUST BE MADE.

I think your all over reacting. You made a statement of something like “well, if you really want to keep it….” implying that you would back Tiami; but, she immediately interrupts you saying that she will give up the invention. Clearly this is because of the need to hand over the invention to the Asuran council so that it can actually be put be put to full use and probably so that its benefits can be fully explored.

I actually read this post before doing the story and was quite bummed about being forced to steal my friends invention…but when I actually saw the story: I realized you guys are just over reacting to the concept. You weren’t even chasing her down to get her invention from her….you were chasing her because Braham said that she was running into inquest territory and was likely to get herself into trouble. Which she did.

“Phlunt, if you’re backing out of the deal, then fine. Taimi, turn off your device. We’ll order the Pact to start destroying waypoints and gates immediately.”

“What’s that? You say I can’t do that? I can and I am. I am the Commander of the Pact, and I AM IN CHARGE HERE! If you are unwilling to do your part and help us against the dragons, then we’ll do it without you. The cost to you and yours will not be considered. Leave, or I and my team will execute you and leave your corpses for the vultures. Once the waypoint network is destroyed, the dragon will attack the only place such energy remains. The rest of us will have time to gather our forces while it devours Rata Sum.”

“What’s that? You were, perhaps, a bit hasty? Yes, I thought so too.”

First, the PC is not in CHARGE here. He is just the SECOND in command of a military group, so he/she can’t make this kind of decision alone, cuz Trahearne is in CHARGE here. And I think the title is now more like an honorary title since, he/she doesn’t even sniffed near the Pact for a year or so.
Second, yes you are the “boss” of the group, but you seriously think Braham and Taimi would murder innocents? For you?
Third, if the PC would have the power to kill a member of the Arcane Council, and state that the Pact will not protect Rata Sum, all of the asuras (since they are arrogant little kittens) would leave the Pact and take their genius and technology with them. No more laser cannons, no more golems to do the dirty work. And remember the asuran technology played a huge role in taking down Zhaitan.
Fourth, it’s not stealing, the Council just wants to examine the device, since it is one of the greatest accomplishments of all time. And they would give it back to Taimi when she becomes older. Taimi is just being a kid (since she is one) and makes a big deal out of it.
Fifth, the World Summit is near, the PC, the one who should talk about collaboration, and making peace, just threatend one of the world leaders. Sure everyone will say: “That’s a fine man there, I should listen to him”.

If you would screw up whole Tyria because of a kid can’t part ways from her invention, when she KNOWS that it must be done to make the summit happen, then go on please. Let the world sink into the belly of Mordremoth, but at least Taimi will die happily.

Geesh, I’m seeing a lot of mixed reactions.

Phlunt stole nothing. Taimi is under-aged. It is Asuran Law that her inventions are under the custody of her superiors. For outsiders like us (Charr, Humans, Sylvari, and Norn), this may seem like stealing, but it really isn’t.

Honestly Phlunt had every right to claim the device for testing and documentation.

First the device works on the waypoint system, a very important system of Tyria. It is only normal to study the device to see if there are no unforseen side effects (like attracting Modrem). Also since the waypoint system is very important it is only normal to document it in case they have to make changes/inspect to the system (otherwhise they might have some serious problems that they can’t find because it isn’t documented) or they have to make a new one if the old one is broken.

Secondly, the device attracted modrem during the demonstration. It is unwise to leave such device in the hands of a child. The only reason she didn’t die was because Braham and the PC were there. So unless you want Taimi dead it is best to keep the device away from her.

Thirdly, Taimi is still a child. A child that still needs education not in inteligence but in wisdom. Leaving a device that affects the waypoints in immature hands is just waiting for disaster.

Finally Phlunt is the head of her ‘school’. If something with this device goes wrong then does not only Taimi suffers a lot, but the ‘school’ will suffer a lot as well. So to protect his ‘school’ Phlunt can’t take no risks since the device affect all the waypoints.

The argument that it is for the ‘greater good’ is in my opinion (I don’t know what the writers think) just something the PC has to say since Taimi is very pridefull and stuborn.

I’m not OK with Taimi being present at all. She’s a child, she doesn’t belong in any of these areas. Not only is it completely unreasonable to bring her into hostile territory in the Maguuma jungle, but leaving her in a cave that attracts both Mordrem and Inquest? Even with a guardian that’s ridiculous.

The asura are a race of geniuses and as far as I know Taimi does not have an expertise background in waypoint studies. I’m confident that somewhere out in Tyria there is an asura that understands waypoints well enough to do what Taimi did, or even better than her.

Now we have an example of where being a child not only makes Taimi inappropriately vulnerable to an attack but also has her immaturity waste out time, puts her in danger and generally distracts from dealing with more important things. Taimi needs to go home.

Actually, as a Commander of the Pact I think it is way more in-character that the player character defers to the Council Asura, instead of giving in to Taimi who – despite being a traveling companion and genius – is still a child and has acted irresponsibly several times throughout the story. That’s of course very much in-character for her, but from the viewpoint of a Commander it is clearly the better choice to defer to the experienced Asura of the Council. Phlunt might be a snarky kitten like most of them, but he probably didn’t obtain his position (in a culture that seems to be based on meritocracy) by being incompetent.

/sigh

You have a point. However, expecting Taimi to just roll over and take it is wrong. You should be making it VERY clear that Taimi is the inventor, and she WILL be getting full credit in official records. If he tries to claim credit for it or any related inventions, he’ll look like an idiot that steals his best ideas from children.

If need be, I’d do this by giving Taimi a battlefield promotion to the Vigil’s lead expert on the matter, with all requests for information about such subjects needing to be directed through her. (And then, have a quiet talk with her about not abusing her new rank, unless she wants to be buried in paperwork and never see a lab again.)

I don’t know if stating such things to Phlunt is even necessary. As far as I’ve understood (though I might be very wrong, I still have to make an Asura character one day!) stealing others’ inventions seems like a no-go in Asura society, a vile thing that’s more like associated with the InQuest. As far as I’ve understood Asura culture, it’s much more of a proof of one’s intellectual superiority (and thus granting more prestige) to invent something from the ground up, as opposed to stealing the ideas of someone else. To me it seemed like the Council wishing to examine it for the benefit of Asuran society as a whole (as they kind of built the waypoint network), since it’s obviously a groundbreaking device. I doubt that they would claim it as their own and erase all Taimi’s credit for it, since that just doesn’t seem the Asura way.

As a Pact Commander, I assume the player character is at least basically aware of such cultural customs, having worked extensively with the various races under his or her command.

Also as a Commander, giving Taimi a rank in the Vigil would be highly irresponsible, because she’s still a child. There’s actually a reference to that reasoning: somewhere around Vigil Keep there’s an NPC conversation that involves an enthusiastic kid begging a Vigil member to allow him to join their ranks, since he wants to help save the world. The Vigil guy seems endeared, but tells him that he can’t join them, because he’s still a kid. Eventually, he tells him he will talk to an officer (can’t recall that part exactly), to see if he might be allowed to help as a squire of sorts, cleaning swords etc.

Condition vs Power: PvE team construction

in Profession Balance

Posted by: oxtred.7658

1) a condi warrior deals more damage than a berserker one on a heavy armored target, so yeah, conditions are already outdamaging pure power ( with free toughness on top)
2) The cap issue has been acknowledged by anet, it’s a strict server problem, you can’t keep track of 5×25 bleeds, at least that’s what they said.
3) You can play how you want. Just join any “all welcomed” lfg or start your own. Sure, you won’t be accepted for a speedrun in rabid, how’s that surprising?
4) The only way to make condi more suited for pve without destroying pvp is to split the skills and mechanics, and we’re used to anet not wanting that.
All in all, yeah having condi builds viable in groups would be a change. But they are already so powerful in all other game modes where berserker doesn’t shine, meh. Condi builds already deal too much damage for the amount of toughness it provides, imo. Also, if conditions are calculated for each players, that means125 vuln stacks. lel.

Play how you want means “Let people play how they want” as well.

If someone’s trying to catch a TV show or has to get to work so they need four zerkers, let them get the zerkers.

If you want to do a dungeon with a build you like, do it. Only the speedrunners care about full zerk, and some people play the dungeon just to play it.

But play how you want isn’t limited to solo content. The problem is there are people who wish to play how they want and they want to run dungeons as fast as possible…and that’s okay.

There are plenty of people who will group with you if you’re not zerker. Easy enough to advertise your own group or join a casual guild. I run dungeons with support people in my party sometimes, no big deal.

But I’m not really sure about the total point of your post beyond expressing of frustration. You can already play the open world any way you want. It’s just the instances when you have to deal with other people that it becomes an issue.
