In my experience duelling requests can be used as a very low-level form of harassment, not unlike begging for gold or asking to be ‘boosted’ through content. Even with an auto-decline feature or showing as ‘anonymous’ in a game, if someone is near you and wants to duel/get money/be boosted they will simply click on you and whisper/say incessantly until you are forced to block them. Obviously this can happen in pretty much any aspect of the game anyway, but duelling adds another method and ‘reason’ for doing so.
I suspect that is part of the reason why a lot of people who are not interested in duelling are concerned that even an auto-decline tickbox would be insufficient to keep duelling requests, spam and harassment at bay. I understand that some people like duelling and that is fair enough. I am not particularly interested, however, and I would like that choice to be respected as well. I have doubts how well it would be, given that there are already a number of posts in this very thread claiming that the only reason people oppose duelling is cowardice, based on what appears to be no evidence whatsoever.
Given that duelling already takes place in WvW (at the windmill, usually) and there is the option for custom arena fights, I don’t feel that adding a duelling option into PvE is really needed. If it happens, it happens, it won’t make me quit the game, but I don’t think it would add much overall.

So the queens jubilee is together with the 1 year celebration of gw2. I can’t wait what they have in store for this event
If you want to duel in order to know who is the best/ more skilled/ whatever then you have the custom arena.
If you don’t want to use them because you won’t be able to use your food/ascended gear/etc.. then you aren’t looking after a display of skill but simply want to show up your gear : it won’t be a fair duel, deal with it.
If you simply want to try your PvE build against foes then use it on LA dummies/ Orr mobs / whatever. You don’t need a whole new concept for that.
As said numerous times: open world dueling: no
Dueling in an instanced zone (not the custom arenas): yesCare to give more information or defend this reasoning? >.<
First of all, dueling is against the spirit of the game in PvE, cooperation between players instead of competition. I don’t think something that goes far against the very philosophy of the game will ever be implemented. But that’s only theoretical and non-sense anyway, the devs are known to change their philosophy from time to time – up to a certain extent-.
I don’t want to see players dueling around me while I’m exploring out there and try to reach a far vista or poi. Not only it clutters the screen with particles and effects it may also attract unwanted attention -see: mobs-. Depending on where people might decide to solve their issues, they might mess up events too. There are a lot more things to consider with dueling everywhere, boons, conditions, hit by mobs, rally by mobs maybe an issue too. If you disallow all these, then why do it in the open world?
Since we don’t have an inspect feature or similar, what about low-level challenges? No matter how good downscaling is, it’s by no means perfect.
Duel requests can be easily avoided with an auto-decline feature, and an auto-block PM feature from anyone that might even think to send dueling PMs “coward, come fight me!” and the like. Oh and removal of said person from map chat/say chat, everywhere I don’t want little kids to spam requests on chat. To add to that, a ignore/auto-delete function on the forums about any dueling balance issue post.
The game isn’t built around 1vs1 duels, that’s a simple undeniable fact. If they focus on duel balancing even for a single minute of their balancing process, the game will be ruined… There are already loads of balancing issues, let’s not add more.
I’m all for testing your PvE build against other players, but not in the open world, a special arena in WvW would be ideal for it.
I still have not seen an answer to the question, “Why would ANet implement a free feature that would compete with an existing paid feature?” I suspect if dueling is to ever get beyond the wish stage, that question has to be answered. Don’t think “goodness of their hearts,” think “money.”

The commando is already in game right now….watching you.
Well, I hate JPs, Minigames, Dungeons and meaningless living stories, and people that like those got tons. And they happily tell me.. if I don’t like them, don’t do them.
So, in that spirit, I would love hearts in Southsun and new areas. And.. if you don’t like them, don’t do them.
^ That is a BRILLIANT idea!
ANet, get your artists on it, STAT!
Engineer by far. Here’s why:
1) We can do ANYTHING. It’s possible to tailor an engineer build to be as specialized as you want, to work in any area, any role, and any situation. There are dozens of glass cannon damage builds, we are one of the few professions that can actually get away with playing support, and we have more bunker builds than we know what to do with.
2) We’re skillful. For the most part, doing something on an engineer is somewhere between a bit and a lot more difficult than doing it on another character. We have to work to be a bunker, unlike the guardians. Our damage relies on a very unreliable skillshot in nearly every glass cannon build (grenade kit :P), while warriors depend only on one ability. However, when we do it right, we do it better. Only engineers can survive 1v5s indefinitely in WvW. Only engineers can stunlock enemies to death with the quadturret build. Only engineers can keep 20+ stacks of vuln on 5 targets with their standard DPS rotation.
3) We’ve got character. All the other classes rely on strong arms and fancy magic. We have access to neither, so instead we build ourselves up from nothing. The guardian and warrior are big dumb brutes, the ranger is a hippy, the thief is a jerk, and all those scholars are wierd magic-users. We, on the other hand, build our own weapons. We use the products of our own two hands, and we use them well. We can’t throw a boulder to launch our opponents, so we make a landmine that does it for us. We can’t magically bind them to their location, so we invent a glue that will keep their feet stuck. The other professions live on luck, or rely on brawn over brains. We rise above them, and create ourselves into what we are today.

In My opinion GW2 has really captured the essence of mass multi player online gaming.
To Begin with, I have never come across an mmo where you can solo so much content if you choose. I think being able to solo content and run into a group event by chance and simply join in is amazing. Having so many things that can be done without being forced to join a guild to advance is awesome.
I like the Idea of being able to do my own thing when I choose, run into people, join in with them ,if I choose, without being stuck to one particular guild or group.
Thumbs up GW2 for your new generation mmo game mechanics.
If there are other mmo’s that share this type of mmo gaming mechanics, by all means, let me know which ones they are.
A special achievement
A Communal Boost Bonfire that provides a boost to karma gain, experience gain, or Magic Find for you and your friends
A consumable boost for 24 hours of 200% Magic Find and coins from kills
3 consumable Fireworks to celebrate the moment in style
Facebook is a poor way to measure the number of active players and even more so when the reward is garbage. Even if I used facebook I wouldn’t have hit like for that reward. The day Anet gives us a crazy skin for liking though, I bet you’d see a huge increase.
We are also playing in a game where grinding and doing dungeons for a crazy amount of time doesn’t get you as far as in other MMOs. I feel quite safe when I take time off from the game. I might miss a couple of achievements, but I don’t feel like I’m ever going to fall behind in terms of gear.
The numbers make sense to me for the kind of MMO that GW2 is and the way it rewards time played. Not everyone enjoys this style of gameplay, but clearly a large amount do.
I’ve read a lot of posts from people who quit/hate the game/think its dying. You aren’t going to hear much from the people who love the game though. We’re too busy having a good time. A lot of us finally found our perfect game and we are sorry if it’s not for you, but this game is anything but dying in my eyes.
It just seems like this thread is a magnet for the people who could not get into the game and who could not adapt to the innovation of Gw2. So they come here to vent. Sadly the opinion of those who are no longer playing does not matter because obviously they have moved onto better things.
However…why are they in Gw2 forums? Not all games are for everyones likes but it is pittyful to try bring down the game for people who like it because you do not like it.
Hell hath no fury like a GW1 veteran scorn. If they didn’t want GW1 vets to be upset about GW2, they shouldn’t have used the ‘Guild Wars’ name and they shouldn’t have marketed it as a sequel. ArenaNet brought this upon themselves.
Some GW 1 vets like the game though. Seems a whole lot of people running around with GWAMM titles if you ask me.
scratches head What are people talking about? Do you actually look around when you’re playing the game? I see tons of people playing. I think it’s time people stopped talking the game down in some twisted effort to convince people that actually enjoy it that there is something wrong with it.
I’ve played a few mmo’s and frankly GW2 is my favourite one out of all of them, no it’s not perfect, but NO game is.
Not to sound like a fanboy but ArenaNet has really made a great game and people realize that after they leave the game to move onto other MMO’s. I have seen so many people who have left the game return these few months because the combat and the creativity in other MMOs does not exist the way it does in Gw2.
Although Gw2 still needs improvement it is working hard to keep gamers invested in the game. It is releasing new balance patches every fortnight. They really have made great progress since launch and people are seeing that and it is the main reason why people are coming back to join the game. End game is not the games end anymore because now players are living in an evolving world.
The final reason comes down to…“You can not please everyone!” This would be clear to anyone who has run a guild or a bussiness irl. GW players always have GW to go to (I do). However although there are things I miss from my old MMO, I adapted and evolved with Tyria. That is the way of life itself, evolve or die.

I’m still waiting for this unreleased hairstyle for the female ( and ARMOR!!! ) from the beta Pictures:
How about a pitcher plant backpack or venus fly trap quiver for non flower themed back pieces?
I personally really like them. Maybe they’ll come out with something you guys will like in the later patches.
If we complain every time they throw us a bone, we’ll never have nice things
“Throw us a bone”? If they hand these set out for free, yes, that’ll be a bone. saying you don’t like a PRODUCT is not is not saying you don’t like a GIFT.
But if they make a product most ppl don’t like, they should CHANGE THE PRODUCT.
And who is “most people.” A couple of nay-sayers in this thread? Is that supposed to be representative of the community as a whole?
I LIKE that Phoenix armor. I WANT that Phoenix armor. If this product that I WANT is changed because of a few entitled forum posts, I would be seriously angry, and I’d bet there are plenty of people who want all 3 of these armors that would feel exactly the same.
Cleverly disguised complain thread is not so cleverly disguised.
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”
Not that shocking tbh, Anet never really made a big deal about the likes save for the initial announcement.
I would “like” GW2 if I trust FB enough to create an account there =P
I’m not suprised at all, GW2 has no steam anymore.
Can we please stop throwing money into the RNG boxes and expecting amazing results? Lottery tickets, or grab bags, or sealed booster packs, or whatever . . . simply aren’t an economical way of getting what you want. Be it money, a specific item, or that rare card/miniature/item you’re looking for to complete your collection.
I’d like to say you have my sympathies, however my cynical side is starting to choke that part to death when I see topics like this. Because every time I do, I start to wonder how often people need to touch the paint before they realize it’s wet. It’s been well established the results are (usually) not worth the money put into it.
The Black Lion Chests have always been (nearly) pointless from a game mechanics standpoint. The skins which float in and out of their drop tables (including the Mystic Conduit parts), and related “Special Boxes” are simply not a good use of your (real) money. If you must play at them, go for Gold conversions to Keys. Or do the new character turnover for keys (pick some personal storyline you want to check out, do it past the first chapter, and move on).
But please stop spending real money on the keys and expecting your mind to be blown by the drops?
On a positive note, you got enough ticket scraps AND a ticket to trade for skins. Congratulations. Pick something you like, or hang onto them for a later event if you don’t like any of them.
I’m just going to pay the 3 silver to waypoint to work tomorrow, thanks.
New Achievement: Go an entire Living Story update without whining on the forums.
Regarding the Newbie headgears and other uniques.. I had not a clue, when I first created, that my choice would give me unique bits of armor, nor did I know that if deleted, it was not replaceable.
They could stick in a very simple quest, in the new player zone, close to start point. Call it “Crafting for the Novice and Absentminded”
Hello young Hero, or.. Old hero as it may be. In case you find yourself intrigued by the fine art of crafting, or, like many, have misplaced a certain family heirloom, I have just the solution. I have.. a few recipes that may be of service.. for a paltry bit of coin and a bit of service. I need wood, to make parchment for my recipe books. Fetch me X logs, a bit of silver, and Ill give you some one of a kind recipes.
Reward could be recipes for the starter unique armors, soul or acct bound, entry level crafting req. One time per char by profession. I dunno. Or all lights, all meds, all heavies, choose one type.
Has to be a better way to get these restored than by creating/wiping characters.

Personally I feel that crafting should allow the user to design the appearance of their armor. As an end game which focuses mostly on aesthetics, this seems like a must. Crafting should be like character creation, where you have templates and sliders.
It’s counter-intuitive actually. Scraps are supposed to be the consolation prize, however, as it stands you have to be lucky to even get the consolation prize.
So it’s no longer a certain consolation, but an uncommon consolidation prize.
This is what you get for voting Evon.
