new building skill and player owned houses

I wholeheartedly agree with this. GW2 needs to branch off from a “look what I killed” game and into becoming more diversified. Two examples of success franchises without combat would be “the Sims” and “Farmville”. GW2 should have customizable housing and a garden. The shear volume of virtual goods that could be added to the gem store could justify the development cost.

A big thing for me would be the shift in ideology of the game. From one of suffering, face it all we do is kill constantly, to one of life and growth. We could use more social responsibility mindedness in the game.

For Guild Halls vs Personal Residence, think of it this way, no way everyone is going to agree on how to decorate a guild hall. Also, for server resources, each account is able to create 5 guilds. Thus, Guild Halls could potentially take up 5 times more resources than personal homes could. At this point, I’d be happy with either or maybe the option to do both.

Honestly, this thread should have been stickied already along with the feedback thread about the new trait system.

They won’t do that because Anet wants the criticism to die, they don’t want to know what we think. I think that by this stage they want all the critics to give up and slink away from the forums (maybe the game, too).

For me, the most telling part was when the deleted the Facebook post about the Megaservers. FB is far FAR more public than the forum, and more likely to be the first impression of the game for new players.

Please stahp being a white knight for once and admit ANet’s mistake. All they do is closing their eyes and ears to problems, and releasing facebook posts about “Megaservers are the best” while we have 43 pages of complaints.

And don’t tell me “they have said they have a team working on megaservers”. Obviously it is not enough. 2 months, 0 improvement and 0 exact solutions to any given problems.

This argument breaks apart on its own. Starting with this: during the time ANet had to finish their unfinished game, other games out there have been released, finished games that are appearing in a moment in which GW2 has nothing appealing to offer, for one more whole long month. (Assuming that LS2 will be considered appealing by most of players who despised part 1 so badly).
Take my case: played since Beta weekends, tryed everything this game as to offer, and played every content literally hundreds of times. I played for almost two whole years, logging in every day, never taking a break from the game. I played even too much if you want, I ranked up in PvP to the point I’ve become bored of it. I’ve ranked up in Wvw and became bored of it as well. Know maps by heart, every single event, nothing new for me out there to discover. Did jumping puzzles despite I hate them from the depth of my soul. What should keep me interested in the game right now? To know what wonderous items they will add on gem store next Tuesday? Aha.

Why isnt Anet letting people vote?

Some of us simply want the game we were paying for.

  1. open world focus (where one never had to enter a dungeon for anything)
  2. metas/DEs added monthly to every zone, and stayed there.
  3. removal of DR so that if you chose you could actually play as a legit farmer without stigma
  4. the restoration/balance of all roles in PVE (CC, Healing, Condition builds)
  5. the restriction of all Ascended armor to fractal use only. (armor not weapons, because that’s what we were told it was for, fractals with agony resist requirements)
  6. making the home customizeable and extremely useful, while adding elements that allow for one to be social easily
  7. additions of cosmetics monthly that are not all focused in the store and won’t be restricted to make them cost 500 gold in the TP
  8. the restoration of the projects that allow certain functions to occur outside of the game like the mobile/web projects (to track guildies, to see global activity timers, to craft/sell using a web interface)

I don’t think voting will solve the problem because the last time they had a vote it was on topics they pretty much controlled they had very few real concerns that the players had in the forums at the time and the development time on the concerns they did look into took a long time.

Gw2 and most other MMOs are about community. By trying to integrate all these communities, servers, guilds, and groups we have effectively destroyed the very thing we play for….community. What is the point of going to a map to play with your guildies when it ques, or you end up in a different map. Human beings are wired to be communal animals. Take it away and we will find it elsewhere.

Sure, you can do Teq and some other mega-bosses…..but what about the other 99% of the time? Who wants to deal with different trolls, gold sellers, and bots? With the megaserver there is always another one to take its place, you cant block it and therefore you wont stop it.

As a primarily WvW player I enjoy the presence of the PvE community. They are a rock, when I come out I enjoy mingling with my PvE server mates and perhaps embarking on some unique adventure while discussing the battlefront stories. But alas….no more. I feel that my home, my sanctuary has been invaded my other-worldly griefers and I don’t even talk to ppl in LA anymore, I cant count on ppl being there, I cant check in to see how things went for the day. “So join a guild”….There is a lot of Inter-guild community…like the entire server. We can only have so many guilds. I used to enjoy my server but now I and so many others are so isolated. There was once a community, which, the megaserver effectively destroys.

Honestly, I am unsure how much longer I will play Gw2. It saddens me that such a wonderful and beautiful game has had the heart and soul of the MMO ripped out of it.

Good thing those lower pop servers got to kill Teq though right? Was it worth it?

Roll it back ANET!!

Megaserver is a mess..it doesnt put me in with people from my original server and it has a hard job of keeping me in same instance as my party, the map chat for EU is a mess unless you are multilingual and the temp fix chat is a joke, the lag at world bosses is stupid and just a dull zerg fest, and raising HP on those bosses will just make it duller, Megaserver should of been rolled out and replaced overflows only and our servers should of been left alone until all the bugs were worked out , doing server events now is just a annoyance and guild mission are still a PITA, the chat around them is toxic beyond belief and you’re new leveling system is laughable “to make it easier for new players” just makes it quicker for them to give up. we still have MegaMess and now you’re about to roll out a new living story which will just be a lag fest as all flock there and the filling of the maps with megaserver will have been completely redundant as everyone will be where the LS is even tho it didnt help timberline much anyway only ever saw a few extra people in there since it changed but that was nothing to do with server amounts all to do with lack of content in the maps, You had a great game, it had faults but only small ones now it still has those faults but also a big pile of tickturd sat on top..when are you going to get you’re house in order and sort out all these issuse..and i do feel for the RP communities that you’ve stressed out with this and WOW didnt you help the Goldsellers with it too never seen so many since the game began and ive been with it since the begining..tbh if i had the money to subscribe i’d play something else ..So ill Ask When are you goin to do the right thing and fix issues instead or hiding behind the new LS and this months Crown Pavillion/Cliffs event..nice try at a distraction but thats all it is

I just want you to fix long term bugs and actual find a direction and stick to it at the moment u swap in change direction with every 3mth update and now its heading towards the dull end of the scale not the bright new some of us saw in the begining..
tried the constructive way bored with it falling on deaf ears so he’s the rant and hope it gets ignored like the rest of these topics

Server based instances would’ve been a nice idea, giving priorities accordingly. Giving one instance per server, and others as filling ones. And of course, manual instance selection upon entering the game/zoning.

Example :
You are about to log-in to the game, please select an instance – Your home world is Piken Square.

Instance #1 – Piken Square (English) – ## Players Online – Recommended
Instance #2 – Jade Sea (French) – ## Players Online
Instance #3 – Abaddon’s Mouth (German) – ## Players Online
Instance #4 – Baruch Bay (Spanish) – ## Players Online
Instance #5 – International – ## Players Online
Instance #6 – International – Empty – Not Recommended

Auto Selecting in 30 Seconds (and counting)
And goes on

Or, if that requires too much IQ to understand, (Simply translating A-net’s claim about the trait mashup for being too complicated), add an “Automatically Instance Selection” feature in the options menu. And keep it on by default, we won’t mind!

^ Yeah that’s pretty much what I mean.

If you’re still on the forums, you haven’t quit this game.

Some players still watch the forums because they want a reason to come back, because they like the core game. But the updates and “features” added to the game since launch have shown them that the devs intend to go in a direction that is very clearly against what they wanted the game to be. Sometimes it’s hard to let go of something you wanted to believe in, so you check from time to time to see if anything changed. It hasn’t? Well maybe in another 2-3 months.

Sadly, Anet seems fine with just addressing concerns with LS2 and have chosen to ignore the big fat elephant in the room, namely the megaserver. That, in and of itself, is quite disheartening. Nearly 2 months is more than enough time for them to speak of the cough: QOL cough feature patch in April. It’s sad, since they’ve lost so many players due to their reticence. ::sigh::

And again another big patch, fixing various issues…….and no megaserver mentioning anywhere. Are you A-net people in denial? Do you refuse to see the mass exodus Skynet is causing to your game? Are we important enough to be noticed, or you simply turned your attention to China?

Of course Chinese players wouldn’t mind Skynet, as it’s there from day 1 for them, they didn’t see their over a year and a half communities shatter like we did. And of course, they don’t have the language issues we have. Just to refresh your memory, the “paper plug” you used for a… “fix” for EU players doesn’t work.

So i would appreciate a “Fixed a various megaserver issues” (or better yet : "Removed Megaserver from # of areas and main cities / LA due to overpopulation) on your next Tuesday’s update. Thank you.

A question I am asking myself more and more as time goes on without a reply to our concerns.

Anet says, correctly, that the majority of the playerbase do not use the forums. Admittedly, many here are present to whine and complain (myself included sometimes). But surely there should be some indication of the feedback of the playerbase reflected in the posts on this forum.

And yet we are still being completely ignored.

Kittykat it, I’m going back to Defiance/whatever worthy game I can find.

Outside of stupid guild mission issues, I can honestly say the megaservers has only changed my experience in one way: there are more people around.

Other than that, it feels exactly like it did before with Overflow. Going to any crowded spot would put you in an overflow with players from all sorts of servers. Which is essentially exactly how it is right now.

If that was enough to make you quit the game, then it honestly sounds like you didn’t enjoy the game in the first place.

The problem is, by overcrowding the maps, they have removed the life from the game. This game is about the player (or small group) against all the dangers and challenges of a wild frontier. The hero standing against monsters and dragons, the one who fights for hope where there is only despair…

And then 6 other players, all heading in random directions appear and scoot off to pursue their own goals firing arrows, bullets, laser beams and freaking unicorns all over the place.

It is 100% immersion breaking. Not to mention the complete and utter wreck it has all made of guild missions or anything that requires a large coordinated group.

I’m right there with most of the complaints and it’s painful to see that this isn’t something that people will just settle on. I see far less players on our server than before and far more reason to join guilds like TTS. I can’t even stress enough that not only the development time into the API, but the players that developed API based sites have been hung out to dry. All the problems the mega server caused, the only real benefit is more people on the maps, which in some cases isn’t even a benefit since bosses melt and they are on fixed timers, ensuring they melt.

I really wish i could see a positive worthy enough of the effort, but right now, I can only see negatives. I’m going to continue to QQ till i at least get a sense of server community back.

Anet really needs to come out with a full blown synopsis of the direction they are taking the game, because right now, these out-of-the-blue, unwanted by player changes are really causing people to be come very frustrated.

I know personally the mega-bombshell impacted me in a very profoundly bad way.
Changes to the mechanics of the Queens Gauntlet was a rather painful, frustrating move. Increasing RNG instead of decreasing is a bad move. Selling gem store items exclusively, that ties in to new content is a bad move. Lowering drop rates, farming possibilities and locking boss fights to specific times of the day are all bad moves. While i agree with doing away with the lower level champ farms, the rest is just blah.

Yeah, seeing map caps of 75+ isn’t working right now. I think I’ve seen an entire map pile on Ulgoth, and it was just ridiculous. I’d say drop it to 50, but then Teq and Wurm would probably be spread too thin on people…

Yesterday doing MAW, there were so many people in my shard that I didn’t manage to get credit for Protect The Supplies, Protect Scholar Brogun, Destroy the Dragon Totem or Destroy the Elite Guard because I just wasn’t in the right place at the right time. I wasn’t on a lowbie character either, I was using an 80.

What these event must be like for lower exp levelled character I have no idea. I fought at a Fire Elemental yesterday as well, broke off from fighting when it was at 80% health to res defeated player. and by the time I got him up, the event was over.

Completely ridiculous – Anet has reduced their own game into farce.

And to reiterate, the issue is not whether or not the Megaservers are being “improved.” It’s whether or not the player concerns brought up in these feedback threads are actually things that the devs consider worth addressing. Because for all we know, the plan is NOT to support RPers or large guilds. In fact, with further updates they may be making it harder for such things to exist because they want players to instead be in multiple smaller guilds. Who knows? But until someone gives real information, the assumption is that these things are not being addressed. Why is that assumption valid? Because they were brought up at the exact moment the megaservers were announced, a month before release. There was no dev response properly explaining whether or not those concerns were valid, instead opting for a “wait and see” approach. Well, release day happened and all those concerns are still there. And no response happened. And they continue to be issues for players even now. BUT, whether or not those are issues to developers is unknown. It could be the intended effect, and things like RP could simply be an “unfortunate but necessary sacrifice”, much like contested waypoints were. So that’s why we need an actual statement of dev intent regarding the future of megaservers. Those blanket statements made by PR just don’t have any real effect anymore.

CC Danicia is most probably not on the Megaserver team, and whatever she knows, I am sure she ‘s not freely allowed to share. Rather than hating on her as if she was ANet’s Avatar, think about all she’s doing: her job.

The hate she got from unreasonable voices in these forums is why I don’t mind when ANet is silent about issues-as soon as anyone replies, they just get some hate and “your comment isn’t enough!” Yet these very people tend to complain about ANet’s supposed “perma-silence” which obviously (to them) means ANet doesn’t care about “the playerbase” (which is usually a community among players, and not really “the playerbase”.) Under these circumstances, I would actually post less than they do (ANet is hardly silent-and not only about the gem shop, as is often stated-but many people just want to hear what they want)

In that regards, they are kinder than I am-stating an “official” response in these forums is bound to be unsatisfactory and irrationally hated upon by many. Ultimately I believe it’s a pointless exercise for them to try to convince haters that the megaserver is good for the game, if the latter have already made up their minds about it. “Inconsiderate”, “lacking in foresight” ANet just wanted to destroy their community and gaming experience in their minds, rather than helping to further develop the game.

Best of luck to all ANet employees as you try to move the game forward. The Megaserver needs refining, not removing, and I am glad you are taking that stance rather than letting yourselves be intimidated by all the hate-which as we all know, is hardly universal. No one should admit to a crime they didn’t commit.

(The above is not meant to mean that it’s “wrong” to dislike the megaserver-like what you like-but as my own lamenting about how people often choose to voice their dislikes; intolerance, lack of compromise (other players are important , not just my point of view), etc. Additionally, many people who have voiced their concerns AGAINST the megaserver have done so rationally and maturely, so disliking it is certainly no indication of someone necessarily being like the haters I alluded to above.)

If you can’t agree to disagree, and are just going to reply with more hate, just ignore my post altogether. I care not for unnecessary debates about games, and there’s no reason to expect we must always agree or otherwise hate each other.

We need to know whether our concerns about the megaservers are actually being addressed, or if ArenaNet is not interested in addressing them and is instead just working on improving their own design. That’s the point of all of these feedback threads. And simply acknowledging that it’s being worked on doesn’t say whether or not it will improve our situation at all. As the community coordinator, it’s part of her job to communicate our needs to the team, but at this point what the community itself needs is a member of the team to explain the future of the Megaserver system. And because no such person has made an appearance in any of the feedback threads, CC Dancia serves as the only line of communication we have with ArenaNet. So, maybe it’s unfortunate that she has to bear the brunt of the player’s dissension, but at the very least that means she can communicate that to the dev team. And until some level of clarity is given to us about their plans for Megaservers, she and any other moderator are going to have to continue to be a target of player dissension. Does that mean she should post nothing? Probably. Like I said, at this point posts like “We’re working on it” and “Wait and see” aren’t good enough and serve as a placebo for maybe a day or two (if that). When talking about “ArenaNet doesn’t communicate with players”, we’re specifically referring to developers or a developer representative. Obviously PR talk and generic statements aren’t going to solve the issue.

I myself actually stopped playing april 14th.
With the living story bugs every single time.
And when i heard about megaservers coming. I knew this would happen.
Its a shame because i loved this game, I have multiple legendaries that i grinded out with hard work.
But i do not see myself coming back to this game as I am mostly a PVE player and the game is pretty much dead to me now.

Ill check back from time to time to see if anet has done anything about this. But from their lack of communication with thier customers. I might not even bother doing that
