This is my main concern too. The large majority connected to our Teamspeak are now authenticated through this, which required little effort on the player’s part to do so. TS is announced in map chat, new people join, a couple of clicks later and they get WvW channel access.
From my side I can change things to follow how you want the APIs to work. My concern is take up from the player’s side of things, and having to offload the extra complexity onto them.

its an l2p issue if youre confused about or destroying things you get from a reward track. and if you do something silly like repeat the dry top track more than 19 times, you need to educate yourself about it and other tracks.
you play pvp at the highest levels. you have the mental capacity to figure out what you want and dont want from reward tracks. use your brain.

Surnames help in almost every situation.
I think this needs to be extensively tested.
I will now be accepting emails with 500G attached. After receiving them, I’ll confirm the receipt and then you can attempt to send me another 500G. If I’m unable to retrieve it, I’ll inform you.
Hey, we all need to pitch in to keep the game safe and bug-free, right?
When I make requests on /v2/account I’m getting the {"text":"ErrBadData"} response again.
This is happening if I use my own client_id or the gw2_api_demo one.
They will look into this next week.
See GitHub Issue https://github.com/arenanet/api-cdi/issues/19
You’re now able to create OAuth Applications, manage them, and use them to create apps that can request data from authenticated APIs!
WARNING – This is all BETA-quality and may be subject to change as we discover bugs or just decide we don’t like the way it’s looking at us.
I’ve documented the process in a few images, hopefully you find it straightforward. If you find a bug please file an issue.
Sorry it took a bit longer than we were hoping for, this latest patch caused some excitement that we had to tackle first.
Perhaps it is time to get better at the game, and not to rely on blobs?

Nope. Just because this is a problem now it does not justify reverting the changes. The camera features outweigh this little problem by far – instead i suggest ArenaNet to rework how siege can be placed, and which requirements a placed siege’s location has to meet in order to be able to target x location.
And you (or the uploader of the video if its not you) wrote it right into the video’s description: Anyone who wished to have a better FOV would just play windowed mode and squint the window a little to achieve this. Multimonitorsetups have the same effect. So why revert something which everyone should have access to instead of having a closer look at the targetting mechanics of siege weaponry?
Any news on this yet?
Those went in yesterday so barring any other excitement hopefully will be shipped next week.
We slipped on this release date (PAX and Rezzed are exciting); gonna try again next week.
ID is immutable, Name is not. There are situations where an account’s name will change, though they are rare.
Characters do not have an immutable identifier that we can expose
Would their profession fall under immutable (assuming it’s accessible)? If that could work, maybe doing something with the character’s creation date could mix with that to make some form of ID.
Account ID + character creation time would work
I’ll have to dig creation date up and throw it into the character blob — that should be in there regardless.
I’ve also been toying with the idea of exposing SHA1(character-guid ++ salt)
as another alternative. Not sure how much I like that approach (has some minor issues on the backend w.r.t. resolution back to character-guid), but it seems like a somewhat reasonable workaround.
Typical forums.
Players: Anet doesn’t communicate with the people on the forums.
Anet communicating on forums: Sorry but there will be a delay for the next update due to technical reasons.
Players: Why you no update on time! I’m so mad!
LOL. There is some truthiness in your post. However, the amount of players who are “mad” is still not enough in my opinion to justify a policy of not communicating.
However: since 99.9% of my complaints on these forums have to do with what I perceive to be extremely poor communication on the part of ANet, I can’t let this thread go by without acknowledging that they did the right thing here.
Seriously, that was great communication and it made me a very happy player.
Thank you Gaile. Please continue to rock. You always do. :-)
It’d be wonderful if commerce could clean out the buy orders for any order thats ‘buying’ the item at below the vendor/minimum TP allowed sale price.
Is there any chance that we (API forum users) could get a guaranteed invite for the closed beta test? For you know… testing purposes…
I know Perl isn’t exactly fashionable these days (darn young whippersnappers), but it’s still my script language of choice. So have a Perl module, and get off my lawn. :P

It’s as offtopic as it gets, but I just wanted to throw in that I’m really amazed by these threads and the work on the repo. This is real collaboration and motivates me as a developer immensely.
Thank you for working with us!
Due to the current Overwolf App Contest… is there a (rough) ETA or priorization for the upcoming API functionality? I could start implementing without the API up and running as long as I knew that the functionality would come within the time frame of the contest.
My informal roadmap basically looks like this:
1. Get the OAuth2 application registration bits deployed.
(1.5. Pat’s /v2/continents additions.)
2. /v2/account/bank, /v2/account/materials.
3. /v2/commerce/transactions.
4. /v2/characters.
So, basically all authenticated endpoints which aren’t really useful within the scope of a desktop application. No timeline for those, but that’s the general order they’ll probably happen in. The other endpoints I’m working on still need a bunch of manual verification (looking at /v2/skills, there’s a lot of wonky stuff still coming out of my current implementation) or are otherwise still in a half-implemented proof-of-concept state.
you guys do realize that necros can remove resistance….
and 15 seconds of resistance is no more harder to deal with then berserker stance.
Just a quick heads up that the release of the first beta authenticated API is being delayed until at least Monday of next week (2/23). This is due to a variety of not-seen-in-development configuration issues we’re slowly working our way through.
Once the APIs are available we’ll have a post announcing it and providing very basic getting started documentation. More complete docs should be on the wiki soon thereafter.
Sorry for the delay everybody, and thanks for bearing with us while work through this.

i would be really excited about a possibility to have guild chat outside of the game too, maybe somewhat like twitch allows to connect to their irc: http://help.twitch.tv/customer/en/portal/articles/1302780-twitch-irc
Guys, I was super excited at the PAX South announcement, but now that I’m seeing more and more of the new systems, I’m suddenly gripped by an unshakeable fear that things won’t be as ridiculously awesome as I think I deserve, and I’m terrified that I’ll have to work to achieve character progression, and why can’t all the content be instantly accessible and infinite in quantity?? The sky is starting to fall again! I swear it’s really happening this time! /s
tl;dr could we all stop instantly speculating about how bad things might (but probably won’t) be? I swear after every new announcement the forum fills up with “my concerns about X” and it’s ludicrous. if you’re scared of becoming less interested in a video game, you should just be grateful for how easy your life must be.
What makes you think the druid has anything to do with healing? The Druids were simply humans who left society to become one with the Maguuma jungle, so a ranger having a druid specialisation would simply be using attacks that have something to do with the jungle and a synergy with nature.
L2p.
Thank you very much.
Really enjoyed your post, Jaymee. Though I am not in your situation, I can easily see myself having the exact same perspective if I were in your shoes. Honestly, for someone to tell you that you are “wasting” your time displays an appalling lack of sensitivity, in my opinion.
Though it’s funny, as I type this, I remember a few years ago, in a different game, I was, briefly, in a guild with a guild leader who was disabled and also spent a great deal of time online in-game. At first, it was pretty cool, logging in and knowing she’d be there. But then came the day that she testily informed us that she could see no reason why each of us could not spend 4 hours per day gathering materials to donate to guild upgrades.
Four hours. A day. Doing nothing but running around in-game chopping trees, mining metals, and harvesting plants. After working at least 40 hours a week (and often more), if I had come home and spent four hours gathering materials I would never have had time to actually play the game.
I didn’t share that story because I thought you were in any way similar to her. I don’t get any kind of vibe from your post that you expect everyone else to show the same level of commitment to the game as you do. But it does illustrate that no matter where you fall on the scale of time invested in the game, everyone needs to be aware that we all have the right to choose our own level of commitment to our gaming hobby, and no one should be made to feel bad about that choice.
Thanks for sharing your experiences, Jaymee! :-)
Not sure how you got that conclusion. He didn’t imply at all that all (meaning precursors that existed before HOT and the precursors that will exist after HOT) the precursors will be apart of the collections by the words you posted. By the words you posted he literally just said they’re going to be introducing new legendaries and precursors for those legendaries. He says no where in that quote about previously available precursors being available through collections.
watch pax. They were discussing that currently precursors are the hardest part in a legendary, therefore precursors will now be gotten trough the mastery system. Old ones as well.
That is my understanding as well.

I will never understand this compulsion that some have to get EVERY SINGLE AP, even if it means doing things they don’t like.
Did you ever consider that these are set up to be merely token rewards for people who really like each particular activity? And to ensure that they continue to get at least a small reward, even if they choose to play (something they like) an awful lot over wintersday? Or that they are not designed to be something where every player has to do every single one?
This game gets way more fun once you accept that you can’t/don’t need to do every single thing.
