Thinking about it, it could be that the values I was using to determine crit chance could be xx.51% crit chance, and that it does round on the character screen, since that would also put 21 numbers between each value. But even then, if it rounds in practice as well as on the displayed information, those 21 values are still what we want to hit. Here’s my handy list I keep in a notepad document.

is there nothing that can be done to merge the EU and NA PvP? like, if not a merge (lag issues would be intense), then maybe work on allowing PvPers to guest on EU (or NA if they’re european) on off-peak hours, kinda like GW1 districts.

My understanding is this would require a total overhaul of the way the game systems save data and player interactions across worlds, plus put really large latency and trans-cont cable down-time issues into play. All of that being said, it may not be impossible, but it’s not going to happen any time soon given other priorities. It’d be super cool though even if it was just for PvP, I always loved that aspect of Gw1 when I saw we were up against a Korean team and I knew we were probably doomed.

Hey seeing as every thread keeps getting deleted destroyed the 90% bad posts but also the 10% constructive ones Im starting my own thread in direct response to JonPeters regarding the need to know finer details of what our problems with PvP are…" the devil is in the details " as you put it Jon.

This may not be 100% accurate but as a GW2 veteran in all aspects of the game here is my take.

1) Communication – It appears there is a lack of communication with playerbase and higher up devs like Colin Johansen ( spelling? sorry ) regarding the state of PvP. With the playerbase you are worried if your behind schedule you may get alternative outburst saying " We were promised x you didnt deliver on time /rage ". However I feel that majority of the PvP community would rather know what your working on and you be open with us and then have to wait say 2 weeks to a month if you are behind on a certain feature etc. Than be kept in complete darkness. Yes there will be those mad about you missing a deadline so to speak but communication > darkness.

Regarding communication to higher devs, as PAX showed it appears that the higher up devs such as Colin aren’t aware of the state PvP is in. You need to be vocal and assertive and constantly be going to them explaining current issues, telling them what you are working on and some ideas that the community have thrown out. Now if you have told them but Colin still wanted to say " Nothing exciting is coming for PvP we wanted to make a game thats easy to follow along and we are happy with what our PvP has accomplished " . ( I’m paraphrasing ). Then you need to keep saying to them…well no. Theres some major issues here. What Colin could / should have said to the PvP question. " Great question we definitely understand there are some key issues in PvP at the moment but we are working closely with our PvP team to iron them out, having experienced both feedback from our players and devs over this year we are still proud of the accomplishments we have made so far regarding PvP and plan to keep moving forward to make PvP in this game even greater. "

That statement to me, is still PR loaded and delicate. But it acknowledges our concerns. Now thats assuming they are aware of PvP issues but still chose to make that statement…In my humble opinion that is a problem with those higher up devs making a questionable choice of words…Heres the flip side perhaps the higher up devs don’t even know the real issues with PvP? If thats the case then Jon that falls on the PvP dev team in not telling them. Again goes back to being vocal and assertive. Get all up in their grill!

2) Playerbase and lack thereof – Another post in another thread mentioned some details about 17,000 unique players doing Solo Q. If thats the case I think we can all agree that number is quite low. The playerbase needs to improve before we can consider " esports " or even " competitive PvP " at this point. I believe the issues regarding playerbase are 2 things. First is the overwhelmingness to new PvP’ers. Leave this to the community, through streams and youtube videos etc FOR NOW we, the community can educate newer players. YOUR JOB now, again in my humble opinion, should be PvP rewards and balance.

First off rewards you need to bridge the gap between PvP and PvE. Dailies for example. If you complete a daily you should get mystic coin/s laurel jug of karma as well as PvP stuff….and as such you should be able to complete a mix of PvE and PvP daily achievements to get that daily done….or all PvE or all PvP. So now a PvP’er can gain PvE related items. PvP should also grant silver / gold. PvP should also grant you levels for PvE / World v World. And of course…overhaul the PvP specific reward system. This is a must, you must incentivise PvP’ing. If you are stuck for ideas on how to overhaul the PvP reward structure tell us, be open about it and the community can give ideas.

Second part of this is balance and I feel you already know a lot about what we expect balance to be like, so I want to focus specifically on PACE OF THE GAME. PvP is too fast at the moment….you should look to reduce all damage specifically condition damage. Slow the pace down. We want burst to require a team effort, not a single class spamming off global cooldown abilities like an ele etc. We should be able to see – " Okay we have a team fight here the guardian went in and split the team up with shield 5 oh wow the mesmer has been split apart from his team, the warrior jumps on him with his stuns while the thief bursts him down, Wow great play there. " and that should happen over the course of 5-10 seconds. Methodical in play not this glass cannon thief just backstabbed someone and he died admist spamming aoe.

3) Final thoughts – Theres a lot to accomplish here and if indeed 17,000 is the number of players we currently have participating in Solo Q its understandable why a company wouldn’t invest much in that game mode. But you have to look past that and trust that the combat system and potential of this game is ridiculous. Please have faith in your own product and tackle 1 step at a time.

First and foremost, balance and pace of the game, and reward system for PvP including overlapping for PvE etc. These 2 should be your top priority from here on out until you get them done! Amidst that be vocal with both community and your higher up devs. @jonpeters and crew Your community while having some volatile members too…will rally behind you if you can push past the small playerbase numbers and how that warrants less attention that other areas. If you push past that and give us these key features and talk to us, communicate and fight for the amazing PvP this game can have you will grow tremendously!

You get all you need by playing the game, not sure how that’s a grind. 500 Dragonite ore? that’s 25 Meta events, or 5 days MAX. There are cheap ways to get to 450 crafting AND you can sell the items made at that level.

I’m doing things I’ve never done before to get my Asc weapons, having a blast and have not seen this “grind” you speak of.

Not to mention, you don’t need to have these weapons. It’s a personal choice to go for them, just like Legendaries.

There is a lot of hate being thrown around concerning the introduction of ascended gear and time gated crafting, so I feel the need to post here and clear something up for the general community.

Whatever demographic of gamer you may be in, you aren’t the only demographic being catered to.

Before you pull out the pitchforks on me, let me explain myself a little.

Some people like to see the numbers go up. Some people want purely aesthetic rewards. ANet stated at one point that they didn’t even want LEVELS in the game, but that alienated so many players that the game would have been doomed from the start. ANet could have thrown their hands up and said FINE, here’s your kitten levels! Enjoy the WoW clone!

But they didn’t. In the end they made what was probably the most sound design decision they could. They made levels irrelevant overall, but still relevant to the player in terms of progression.

Now here comes the other boogeyman of MMOs: Vertical Progression. I need to make this VERY clear…Vertical Progression is nothing more than the introduction of new gear levels over time. It is NOT inherently a bad thing. “Gear Grind” is a TYPE of VP, the most easily abused and the one most common in MMOs. ANet isn’t infallible (as the ascended gear being dropped on us with fractals shows), but they are showing remarkable levels of awareness in regards to what the players want out of gear, and they are taking responsible steps to make sure the majority of players get what they want.

You wanted more numbers? You got:
Ascended gear.
You wanted to remove gear grind? You got:
Time Gated Crafting, ensuring that the vast majority of players can easily keep up.
Long periods between gear releases, ensuring that even the most casual player can have the gear with minimal effort.
Farming Events Where the casual player can join in the living story to get enough materials to cover just about anything

As an experiment, I have only played 1 Invasion per day, only done my dailies as part of the invasion, and only completed the living story. I made 20gp this week in gold rewards/selling lower tier items, and got enough mats from the higher tier items to craft an entire set of exotic gear. I have no significant magic find. I don’t eat MF food. I just play for one invasion per day. Hell, I afk’d for the last half of an invasion and got 30 greens and over a gold just for being there.

TL;DR: Gamers as a community have condensed legitimate game design concepts into buzzwords that trigger kneejerk reactions.

To the people who will be responding to this, I’d like to ask you in advance to take a moment to think about exactly what is going on here, and exactly what you want to accomplish what your post. The cleaner this thread is, the more likely it is that ANet will join the conversation and actually communicate with us instead of trying to wade through pages of rage and whining.

@ANet: Communication & Transparency go hand in hand, and aren’t limited to player issues. We need to understand EXACTLY why you make a given decision, preferably before you implement it. Feedback is only useful if it’s something you can change afterwards, and the debacle when Ascended gear could was first released could have been avoided entirely if you had had transparent discussions regarding their introduction beforehand. My advice as another member of the industry: Add links on your to-do list to subforums for that feature, in a forum called “upcoming content”. Moderate the hell out of that forum to cull whining and raging, so players can hold real discussions about the features, and you can get valuable feedback.

Chess is a crappy tactical turn based RPG developed by a bunch of monkeys.

Right away you’ll notice Chess has no storyline. Instead, all you notice is the the White army and the Black army are fighting each other over a battlefield. Note the “a battlefield,” because Chess only has one story map.

As for the actual combat, it’s extremely dull. Each unit can kill another with only one hit. This means units with a real good movement ability dominate the field (more on that bellow). There aren’t even any combat animations or anything that happens in combat. One unit moves on it’s space and “captures” it, and the piece is removed from the game with no form of action or special effects.

Yawn.

Chess has kittenty class balance. The Queen is flat out overpowered while your actual front line units, the Pawns. can’t do kitten. I think the developers were afraid that no one would use the female character so they buffed up her abilities really high but now theres no point in using any other unit.

The rest of the units suck. Rooks can only move in 4 directions, same with Bishops. Boring. Also, whats up with the Knight? It has the most bizzare combat abilities of all the units. They’re kittenly hard to use cause they jump around like kittens to move and attack. The devs should have named this unit Ninja, since Knights didn’t jump around like that in real life.

Worst part, is the king. You see, the devs decided that if your king gets captured, you instantly lose the game. W-T-F? This wouldn’t be a problem, except that he can’t move for crap. Seriously, the most important unit in the game can only move 1 space a turn? Good luck keeping him alive while every other unit in the game dances around him.

Unbalanced classes, lackluster gameplay, and not to mention repetitive 1 hour+ games. Chess is not worth the time or your money.

That wouldnt actually fix it. It would need to remove revealed, block you from being able to get revealed applied again for 1 second, stop you from being able to backstab for 1 second, and stop your auto attack when it activates to actually fix the trait and make it work as intended.

The best suggestion I ever heard, was to change it so it drops black powder at 25% HP instead of stealth.

Try my 10/0/0/30/30 build (if you like, run Zerker amulet and jewel, it works quite well too). I’ve played S/D + SB for ages and I’ve been hugely successful with this build.

ya iv tried that build also but no shortbow… double S/D and with 3 init. on weapon swap trait. ya its good especially for boon dependent bunkers. but now im back to my old school build D/P + shortbow cuz i just learned how to do 4HS in black powder i can do it almost 80 – 90% everytime ima doin it! so addictive

So what exactly is the point of liquid karma now?

All karma is account wide, therefore no reason to pass a jug / drip / vial / thimble / etc to an alt.

Boosts no longer work on liquid karma. No reason to even allow the jug / drip / vial / thimble / etc to waste space in my inventory.

Just hand out the karma directly and spare our mice a few clicks.

Here is a list of the current active Custom Arena commands. Note that some commands remove the progression of your server upon usage. This means that using a no progression command will hence forth cease your ability to gain glory and rank points for that match.

Tournament Commands: These commands were established to aid in running custom tournaments. Using any of these commands will turn off progression for the remainder of the match in which you used it. [Example: using /gamestart will not allow any players in the match to accumulate glory or rank points.]

  • /gamestart – Forces the current game to start. Disables rewards and stats.
  • /gameend – Ends the current game. Disables rewards and stats.
  • /setscore – Sets each team’s score, and is clamped to victory score. (total points needed for victory) Example: /setscore 150 499 where the first number is red team score and second is blue. Score can be set before the match starts in the ‘waiting for players’ phase.

Administrative Commands: these commands require you to have the designated player targeted. You do not need to type that players name. Simply acquire your target and type one of these slash commands.

  • /memberadd – Adds the player to the list of members for the server.
  • /memberremove – Removes the player from the members list.
  • /guildadd – Adds the guild of target player to guild list
  • /guildremove – Removes the guild of targeted player from guild list
  • /ban – Sends the targeted player back to the lobby. Adds their name to the list of banned players.
  • /unban – Removes the targeted player from the ban list
  • /kick – Sends the targeted player back to the lobby.
  • /teamswitch – Switches the player from their current team to the other team
