Wow… I am pleasantly surprised to see this here

I am the Sandboxr app developer. If ANet really wanted to partner with us to use us for their 3D printing, that would be amazing. We would even set up a custom API with them to make it easier for the players to print them. I would probably end up getting back in the game (especially if they permanently remove the culling in WvW). I actually commissioned someone to paint a portrait of my Asura Necro character, I loved her so much. Would be awesome to actually print a character, especially with the software I have made =D .

What would you guys think if ArenaNet and NCSoft were to work with a 3D printing company and let you order figurines of your models? I know WoW did this with FigurePrints, but those prices are crazy, even if they’re up to 8" tall ($130 for those of you who don’t care to look it up).

I’d actually suggest Sandboxr (currently being Kickstarted, I’d recommend it to everyone, honestly, not just devs), since they’ll have such an open system available. ArenaNet would just have to give a model library to Sandboxr or the printer of their choice and export character data on demand for the printer to assemble the character parts. The end user could then pose it in the software of the printing service they pick, add accessories (like “attack blasts,” loot, or some kind of unwitting monster), and order it. I’d personally recommend something like 3" height at the tallest, unless someone wants a piece to rival their Rytlock figure from the Collector’s Edition.

Correct! I think some of you are making assumptions that living world means the stuff we’ve done the last few months and that’s all you’re going to see. My point is saying we’ve seen folks feedback and are adjusting that strategy to include a much larger mix of permanent updates going forward.

Dungeons will be part of this strategy, living world teams will be doing work on our permanent dungeons rather than them being ignored, the types of things you’re asking for will be rolled into living world updates to give a reason for them happening in the world. It simply means we’re going to be doing more of exactly what you’re asking for here in this thread, but under the context of a story of why it happens in the world, rather than just magically have it appear (as happened with AC).

Hope that helps a bit, I’m actually agreeing with a lot you, apparently that wasn’t clear enough!

Edited to add: We also plan to do a lot of reward work across the board, including on our dungeons, but we’ll go into more specific detail on that in July as a comprehensive summary.

I think that the Trading Post would be much more useful if we could sort armor by armor class sub types, i.e. a search for “Light,” armor.

Being able to search for “Leggings” as a subcategory is helpful, but it could be further streamlined by sorting out the Heavy and Medium armor types if you’re searching for Light armor specifically.

Edit: My room mate had another suggestion too – A “usable by me” check box. Brilliant!

Fire is because its AOE, and Im always fighting more than 1 person. But youre right, for 1on1 Lightning strike is better.

As for the Scholar runes, its a nice try, but seriously, even taking 1 hit, you wont be above 90% HP, and then that builds Effective Power drops to 4879, and it loses. When fighting skilled players (when it matters) you will not gain that benefit, and I refuse to use stuff that is to uncontrollably situational like that. I assume most people agree with me as well, for those that dont though, or those that dont take damage ever, your suggestion is very good. Your rune choice is for the instagibbing thieves of the world. But come back at me with another try, thats the only way we will learn and progress.

Let me start by saying this:
This thread is not for calling out Yishis, his set is very good, and what I imagine a lot of D/D thieves use because of his popularity. I’m just trying to determine what gear would give the best stat distribution, since other things dont matter so much, on D/D Thief. Effective power also does not mean backstabs are going to hit harder, it means your overall damage is going to be better. If all you do is try and instagib people, this thread is not for you, this thread is for discussion of balanced builds to determine the best possible stat combination.

So, funny story. I was browsing the forums, and I saw this thread:

Which includes a link to a build. The link was to a build website that includes an Effective HP and Effective power tally after you type in your build. So I thought, hey thats cool, I should type in what Im using currently and see what it says, then compare it to whatever else I can find. So I compared it to the only 2 things I could think of, Yishis D/D build (upgraded it to better food and all ascended gear (he was missing 1 accessory, I copied his rings for what stats to put on it) and the one the guy originally linked.

So I successfully managed to beat both sets of numbers on Yishis’ build with 10/30/30 and 30/30/10, and managed to gain 25% damage for a 10%~ loss in HP compared to the other, and I was wondering if a better set existed or if these were really going to be it. The objective in my mind is to sit around 21-22k EHP (as I find 21k to be about the magic number where you can avoid getting instagibbed) and have as much damage as you can get. Any input/insight/etc is greatly appreciated. Let’s get the best set for this nailed down so we can all instigate more QQ’s when we win those 1v5s against bads.

After this, we can talk about D/P, but I assume the gear there will end up being the same as whatever is determined to be the best for the 0 30 30 10 0 set.

We had this conversation, verbatim, months ago.

Two easy solutions:
Park a character in the appropriate level range (about 19-29 IIRC) at a jump puzzle chest and log in and open that chest every day. Silver doubloons will trickle in. Multiply this by as many characters as you care to or spend some time going from chest to chest.

Grab a few hundred/thousand tier 1 gemstones. Start speed pitching them into the mystic forge. ALL of them. If they promote up to tier 2 but aren’t silver doubloons, throw those back in also. You can get silvers directly from tier 1 promotion and more often (though less cheaply) from tier 2 transmuting within tier.

The price is what is was because it takes time to combine them, but NO ONE has the clout to control all the tier 1 and 2 gems simultaneously. Stick it to the manipulator and go about your business.

Glad to see people are catching on finally. It took months to get people to stop playing shout heal wammo builds. Took some more months to get them to run full berserker. And now they are finally using a proper dps rotation. Only about 6 more months until pugs are worth picking up.

Players were exploiting it by deleting and remaking characters, so we made it based on your entire account.

Edit:
Due to the reward being so high, and the upscaling for the living world, this was seen as being bad.

My curiosity’s too high to remain silent anymore:
It’s implicit now that you have a certain limit to the amount of gold per hour we can collect by playing Guild Wars 2.
Shelter/Penitent camp was overhauled =>less gold per hour
Ascalon Catacombs was overhauled =>less gold per hour
Citadel of Flame Path 1 is yet to be overhauled => 7-10g/h
Southsun Cove via this month’s event overpopulation + settler buff => MF gear users have viable alternative to CoF P1.
With Super Adv Box we could do the same as this yet it never got a 1 per day per account hotfix (BB were account bound granted).
World Bosses / Guesting was overhauled => less gold per hour

So this leads me to the following question, which price tag (gold wise) do you give to karma? Solo farming Canach wasn’t on par with CoF P1 gold-wise, but for me it was the Karma Keg that was the real target. No where in this game as far as I know we could get this much karma this fast. (5000 karma base -> 9750 fully buffed).

If there’s a limit of gold we can’t transcend per hour (or we get called on exploiting), may we please know it? We play the weaknesses of monsters and bosses and reap rewards I get it, I also get it that some players who rather play the Trading Post game do the same but in that interface. Yet it doesn’t seem that they have any limit of gold/hour.

It’s obvious CoF P1 will get overhauled, suprised it hasn’t happened yet. Maybe I ought to play less the normal game and go to finance/economy courses so I can play the TP game.

i agree- i completely frigging agree- they limit us and prevent us from reaching small goals. if we want to grind a farm/kill enemies ALL DAY, its OUR CHOICE. they made the game so we can play the way we want and feel good about it. when a “botter” comes along they say they had to NERF the farm when all they have to do is BAN the guy botting…not ruin it for everyone else doing the FARM legitimately.

-If anyone reads this…QUOTE ME on this if you LOVE the idea, will post on suggestions if i get 3+ Thumbs up.

Idea Anyone Reporting a player of a violation without spamming it, gets rewarded if the player is punished. OR introduce a Tribunal much like League of Legends.

- Community looks out for the game this way
- Players make money/get rewarded based on severity of the issue
- Players learn what not to do
- Reporters are reviewed when reporting someone so there is a definite log that can be linked to reward players that reported
- Violators Beware, you have a bounty on your head

Kicking offline party members - Fix?

I love this game, and I appreciate all the hard work the Dev’s do, and all the great content Anet provides us gamers, but sometimes I just wonder what’s going on up in HQ. A simple thing like being able to remove offline party members in WvWvW should be able to be fixed within one patch. This issues has plagued the game since the Beta weekends. in fact, I remember reporting this issue during Beta several times.

Can we please get an official response on this? Is this intended? Is this a bug? Will it ever be addressed? Are the developers aware of this issue? If so, is there an ETA on a fix?

I look forward to a day when we do not have to start our guild WvWvW reset nights by reminding people to remove themselves from party when they log out

Superior Sigil of Paralyzation does indeed affect Tactical Strike’s Daze in PvE (WvW). It does not work in sPvP (or at least Heart of the Mists).

It rounds the Daze up to a full 3 seconds, or at least very close to it. Watch the condition duration on any mob without Sigil and it’ll start at “1s” (0s counts as a full second) for a total of two seconds. With the Sigil you will see it start at “2s” for a total of three seconds.

I have tested this extensively. I have at least two of every Thief weapon, since exotic weapons are basically free now (1g+whatever badges…I have 6k+). I have a Sword with the Sigil and without. I can take some screenshots tonight if anyone wants to see the difference.

You’ve heard incorrectly. Once you transmute an item, it becomes a completely new and different item, meaning the mystic forge will no longer recognize it.

This applies to anything and everything, ascended back-pieces, legendary weapons (a transmuted twilight/sunrise can’t become eternity), etc…

All currently available APIs are accessed using simple REST-style HTTP URLs.


API Terms:

These API’s are wholly owned by ArenaNet, LLC (“ArenaNet”).   • Active – The event is running now
  • Inactive – The event is not running now
  • Success – The event has succeeded
  • Fail – The event has failed
  • Warmup – The event is waiting for certain criteria to be met before activating
  • Preparation – The criteria for the event to start have been met, but certain activities (such as an NPC dialogue) have not completed yet. After the activites have been completed, the event will become Active.

Guild API – BETA

This API takes a guild_name or guild_id. It returns public data about a guild, including its name, tag, and emblem.

The emblem data is currently only the text metadata that can be used to compose the emblem. In the future, we may be able to provide the emblem as an image through this API, but that’s not currently possible.

The colors in emblem data are color IDs that represent an color value. The color IDs can be translated using the color API detailed below. Emblems use the ‘cloth’ material value in the color. We do not currently have an API to resolve foreground_id or background_id to more useful information about the images they represent.



Map API – BETA

Optional parameter: lang

Returns a list of continents, and information about each continent. This information is meant to be used in conjunction with the world map tile service, and with the map floor API.

Miscellaneous APIs – BETA

Returns the current build ID. This can be useful for a number of purposes, such as resetting event timers due to server restarts.

The exact color applied to an item depends on its material. The different color/material combinations are enumerated in the API for each color.

Hi Thieves and Devs,

What was the main purpose of increasing the revealed debuff to 4 sec in Spvp? Lowering burst dmg? It made sense when the trait mugg was so powerful.

However, with mugg now being a shadow of its former self, dmg vise, is there any chance that we can see the revealed debuff decreased to 3 seconds in Spvp as well?

It would make a lot of stealth builds viable in Spvp again.

With the D/P Backstab build, how are you consistently getting into position without any sort of speed boost (Fleet shadow, SoS)? (As a side-note – the spec I run should also have an additional second of stealth thanks to MwS, but according to testing by another player on the boards, MwS is currently bugged and does not affect stealth gained by BP->HS)

I’m currently running D/P (25/15/30/0/0) with Devourers,SoS,Shadowstep and Basilisk. Good players tend to keep moving and dodging whenever I enter stealth; even with SoS, there are times where I have to decide quickly if I want to just let stealth drop or try for a front stab. Basically, what are you doing against players who know what to expect when you enter stealth?

For the backstab, patience and deception are your friends. Be patient with your burst and pressure them to use their defensive CDs (stun breaks, dodge rolls, etc). Once they’re gone burst them.

Positioning is something you’ll learn as time goes on. Think more vertically than horizontally. Get high ground and be patient, only go in for a kill when you can secure it.

P.S. I will not quit this game. And I’m always willing to answer questions – Through this post preferably.

Yes, node assault isn’t a very viable spec if the other team has an Ele (which always seems to be the case). The reason being is that there are no other classes with sufficient condition removal in a 1v1 to be able to outlast the bleed damage. However it can still be dealt with by a high damage burst class rotating to defend their home point. If you don’t see them and they jump you w/o a stun break you will die.

Venom share is incredibly strong but not a hard build to play and also one where I find isn’t as rewarding as backstab. I personally play D/P backstab, because I feel that if played correctly it has the most benefit of any spec.

The difference between D/D and D/P burst potential is minimal, while the trade off for it is huge. While you say D/P has less burst that is actually incorrect, it has a tad bit more, and gets stronger the lower initial health of the target. The only benefit of D/D is a faster and easier combo that is more forgiving on positioning. D/P takes a second to set up, however the damage comes at roughly the same time as D/D (maybe ~0.10 seconds slower). While this is more than enough time to use a stun break (as you can easily do with D/D) it’s a combo that you save until you know the target has no escape. Other combo’s can also kill squishy targets very easily (such as steal/backstab out of stealth). Additionally D/P provides an enormous amount of team utility with Headshot and Blinding Powder, as well as an excellent chase skill (when chilled) with Shadow Shot. Another benefit of D/P is that the stealth is guaranteed, whereas the stealth on Cloak and Dagger can be negated by a skillful player with a blind, dodge roll, or daze.

My name is Caed. I am a thief, always was and always will be. I am posting because I see a severe lack of high level thieves in sPvP/tPvP. I am not claiming to be the best or to know everything, but my knowledge of the class and game is extensive and my propensity to help others is gradually increasing. I have been asked to make guides and tutorials but I lack the time and equipment to accomplish that.

So my proposal to the thief community is this: I am here to help and answer any questions players may have regarding the thief class, whether it be skills, traits, gear, or play style. Positioning is the most important thing and something you have to learn based on the position of the enemy team and the map, as well as your preference on aggression, defense, and team orientation. Timing is incredibly important as well and you must be patient to ensure that your burst is not negated. After you burst a target you either leave for a teammate to stomp or you switch to shortbow and continue to damage other targets. Don’t undervalue your shortbow, it is one of the strongest weapons in the game.

Venom share is a team fight spec, it is still relatively squishy but you are able to get in more with the evasion on pistol whip. If you want you can sacrifice some damage and take a soldier’s amulet for some added toughness. Your main role is you give your damage dealer venom to ensure that they hit their target, second to immobilize/stun high priority targets, third to peel, and fourth is damage. You have an extremely high amount of mobility with Infiltrator’s Strike and Shadowstep, as well as condition removal on both of those and the trait in Shadow Arts. Manage your initiative carefully and keep an eye out for their high damage classes. Call out every CC you put so that your team can implement burst skills into your rotation.

This is a Node Assault build. Due to stealth not being able to cap nodes it is not very effective at holding a node. However with a constant barrage of AoE Bleeds, Consistent health regeneration, and the highest evade/damage skill in the game you are incredulously hard to kill. It takes roughly the same effort to 1v3 as it does to 1v1 someone with this spec. Keep an eye out for CC and make sure you dodge it, use your Steal and Cloak and Dagger as a mini heal. Drop Caltrops and Choking Gas on a point to keep constant pressure on the defender. Switch out Rabid for Shamans if against a heavy burst team (keep the carrion gem). This spec works better on Niflhel and Khylo.

Those aren’t ordinary boons – they are set bonuses that use the boon icon or something similiar, and thus can’t be removed by normal means. You know a boon is available to steal or remove when it has a duration attached (the white outline that ticks down). Compare the effigy’s buffs to, for example, the Butcher in HotW P1. You can steal his boons every time they refresh without a problem.
