You’re gimping yourself if you use venoms. They only work in venomshare builds which are already one trick pony kitten builds. There are far better utilities than venoms. If someone lets himself be immobilized for that long then he deserves it.
There’s a reason you very rarely even see these so called “venomshare” builds. They don’t even work in pve btw.
You know what really grinds me gears? It’s when people yell nerf whenever someone finds something on a thief that works. Whatever works for a thief is always OP it seems….. I say it’s bad players who can’t admit that they’re bad.
If you camping 1200+ spot you not getting any party buffs and not providing any buffs for party. This is the reason to be insta kicked in a good group. Any weapon that can only be used at 300+ range is very selfish by nature and useless in party from a team play perspective.
You can blame players but imho blame is on you, and I used to main a ranger and kinda know what I’m talking about

I hope not, that Ivan Drago quote makes me laugh every time.
It’s quite annoying.
Eventually, it will also break you. As its destruction continues, and its power flows through your inventory, your tolerance threshold will slowly diminish, until it inevitably also destroys you. It’s the only proper course it knows, and will continue it until its task is completed.
It’s really quite remarkable!

Food.
Personally I use Candied Dragon Rolls/Omnomberry Pies. But Plate of Steak and Asparagus works very well, and gives you that bonus power.
I hope this helps anyone who was lost. Any feedback is gladly welcomed.

Was it you? Did you see yourself in the mirror?
I have a lv 23 parked at a JP for the daily chance at a Silver Doubloon, but since the Fractured patch, I haven’t received any. I know RNG, but I was averaging 2-3 a week prior to the patch, and now I have not received a single one.
Has anyone else seen a change in the drop?

I wish Steal was an interrupt that gave us a version of whatever skill we interrupted.
1) Be Thief
2) Infiltrator’s Arrow halfway through laser room, using left side of wall for guide.
3) Infiltrator’s Arrow to end of laser room.
4) Start using both consoles on the right side, when done, Shadowstep to left side, start using that console.
5) ???
6) Profit.
Nobody else even has to get across. It’d also work with Mesmers (Blink) or Necro (Flesh Wurm) or Elementalist (Lightning Flash), but you’d have to wait for cooldowns.
I’m tempted to do it a few more times to sell spots for gold, now that a person in the comments mentioned it.
Hope this helps anyone who wants to try it.

As my uni work has finally been lifted from me, I was able to upload the alphard solo guide video thingy, its an add on to my original commentary guide thingy for arah p2 for mesmers, and it shows both my original technique idea, as well as the technique used by the guys who duoed alphard and posted it here recently.
Enjoy if you wish, if not, have a nice day on the exotic dungeon forums.
Similar to the Queen’s Gauntlet arena where you get to choose which monster to fight you can practice your class skills in the Dungeon Boss Arena.
Some Characteristics of the Arena:
- Players will have the option to choose which dungeon boss they would like to face and give it a difficulty from easy, medium, and hard. (Hard mode is probably going to be for the Hardcore Veteran Players lol )
- Each boss will be in their respective environment (For Ex: If players pick Lupicus they will be teleported to the center of arah and prohibited to leave the boundary and go explore the dungeon.) this way veteran players can teach new players how to use the environment to their advantage.
- The bosses in the Arena will not drop any loot because their sole purpose is for players to practice their skills/builds on the bosses.
New players can practice their class builds/skills and become more familiar with the boss mechanics. Instead of players going into the dungeon for their first time not knowing anything about the boss and having their Guild/PUG members finish everything and leaving the dungeon with little to no knowledge about the boss mechanics they can practice in the Arena before going on their dungeon run.
Benefits of the Arena:
- Veteran players can teach new players their group style of killing different bosses without having to spend extra time skipping dungeon trash mobs for a teaching run.
- New players won’t have to wait for a group to run dungeon to practice on the boss.
- Hardcore Veteran players can choose their favorite bosses to solo/duo (Ex: Lupicus) and record their personal record.
- Experiment with new builds, trick, and skills that will be most effective without having to worry about holding your party members back.
- Allowing some of us to do something instead of standing in Lions Arch. ( This is a joke btw please don’t get kitten)

This is my first topic made on the Spvp forums so here go my thoughts on the current state of pvp and the outlook on Esports. While many of us have our own idea’s of what needs to be adjusted and what pvp needs to be relevant and how we should be rewarded. We all have idea’s of what should take priority, whether it be balance, rewards or whatever. Here’s my take on it,
Balance should take presedence above all else for pvp. For me, a somewhat balanced fight against another player is all the reward I need. The recent changes to glory and adding vendors in the HoTM are nice but honestly, balance should be the #1 priority. I’m not saying you can’t do both because i’m sure they’re different teams for different content.
Here are my opinions on what needs to be adjusted:
-All proc on crit traits should be changed to a counter system. What I mean by this is instead of it being a mindless proc on your opponent, let it trigger every few critical hits with a counter on your bar so your enemy knows when to dodge/block. This will promote counter-play which is great for balance. This should also apply to passive traits that apply too much of a benefit without any thought process involved.
-Adjust Defensive/Condi amulets. I don’t like the idea of having amulets that are both tanky and provide damage. You’re getting the best of both worlds, this should NEVER happen. You are supposed to take a loss in this game when you spec into something. Whether it be damage, support or bunker. There needs to be give somewhere.
- AI/Passive skills should never see the light of day in a tournament. These skills should be available for new players to break into the game but should never be taken seriously. These specs require little thought involved and provide too much benefit.
-Skills that require effort(activation) should be heavily rewarded compared to those that do not(passive procs). This goes back to my previous points if you are to keep passive skills/traits as reliable as they are.
If anyone here has any other suggestions, please post it.
Indeed, requiring players to farm temple events in order to make ascended weapons is bloody annoying. Let’s come up with some solutions that can be summarily ignored.
Solution #1: make the mats tradeable. I know some players who complain that they have too much dragonite ore and not enough empyreal fragments. I have too many empyreal fragments and not enough dragonite ore. It would be great if we could help each other out!
Solution #2: Mystic forge recipe to convert empyreal shards to dragonite and vice versa. Something like 5 empyreal stars, 5 mystic coins, 5 piles of crystalline dust and 5 philosopher’s stones to produce 1-5 dragonite ingots.
Solution #3: The fractal fortnight meta achievement had a dragonite ingot as a reward. Problem is it can only be done once. Make some repeatable achievements with this sort of reward, could be multiple ones for different gameplay areas.
PvE, PvP, WvW? A good all around choice I believe would be Scholar Runes since they are best for PvE, as well as good for PvP and WvW if you play a zerk build.
Well, now that we finally have the stats for the new Ascended Armor, its time to do some math! This thread is not for the discussion of trait setups or builds btw. This thread is only for discussion about the math behind gear sets, food, sigils and runes.
Part One
Best Possible Physical Damage.
To find the best setup for the best possible damage gear set, we only have 2 options to look at. Berserkers and Assassins. Every other piece of gear has defensive stats on it, and we do not want any of those! This is going to assume youre one of those people running 30 Deadly Arts and 30 Critical Strikes.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fYEQNAoYVlUmKO3eS5E/JA-jQxAYfBRCCQxtIas6aMlLRUNA-e
We’ll Start with this, since it gives us all the numbers we need other than Armor stats, since theyre new we’ll have to manually count those. Also since Scholar runes have been proven to be the best runes for increasing damage, we’re simply going to use them. If anyone would like to question this decision, please feel free to do so, and we can compare math between them and… whatever you want later in the thread.
For slot skills, Assassin’s Signet is a pretty common use slot skill, so we will be adding it, and comparing damage when the power is active, and when it is not.
2019 Power (1839 w/o Power Signet)
1426 Precision
62% Critical hit damage
Ascended Body: 106 main 76 sub 5% CD
Ascended Pants: 71 main 50 sub 4% CD
Ascended Hat: 47 main 34 sub 2 CD
Ascended Gloves/Shoes/Shoulders: 35 main 25 sub 2% CD
106 + 71 + 47 + (35 * 3) = 329 Main
76 + 50 + 34 + (25 * 3) = 235 Sub
5 + 4 + (2 * 4) = 17 CD
We’ll also add full bloodlust stacks to both sets for every calculation, and for the first calculation, we’re going to skew everything as far into working out for the Assassins set as possible by stacking as much power as we possibly can, to see if it ever has a hope of winning, because I do not believe it does.
Oils/Stones:
916 Toughness
916 Vitality
916 * (61/1024) = 54.56640625
916 * (40/1024) = 35.78125
55 + 35 = 90, this is less than Toxic Oil adds, so we will be using those for +100.
Berserkers
1426 Precision + 300 Precision + 235 Armor sub stats + 100 Oil stats brings us to
1426 + 300 + 235 +100 = 2061 Precision Total.
2051 Precision is 59% Crit Chance, 2072 Precision is 60 Crit Chance. Adding 3 precision infusions should be better than adding none, but we’ll have to check and make sure.
Critical Hit Damage: 62 + 30 traits + 17 armor + 10 food = 119%
Berserkers – Main Stat Power – DA30 – CS30 – 25 Might Stacks – Assassins Signet – Sweet & Spicy Squash Soup – Toxic Oil – 3 Power/3 Precision Infusions
(2019 + 329 + 300 + 250 + (35 * 25) + 100 + (5 * 3)) * ((1 * .4) + ((1.5 + 1.19) * .6)) =
7830.432 Damage
Assassins
1426 Precision + 300 Precision + 329 Armor main stats +100 Toxic Oil
1426 + 300 + 329 +100 = 2155 Precision Total.
2156 is 64% Critical Hit Chance, so 1 Precision Infusion, 5 Powers.
Assassins – Sub Stat Power – DA30 – CS30 – 25 might Stacks – Assassins Signet – Sweet & Spicy Squash Soup – Toxic Oil – 5 Power/1 Precision Infusion
(2019 + 235 + 300 + 250 + (35 * 25) + 100 + (5 * 5)) * ((1 * .36) + ((1.5 + 1.19) * .64)) =
7918.4064 Damage
(edited by wish.1027)
7918.4064/7830.432 = 1.0112349357
In this example Assassins managed to win by 1%, but we should be able to fix a simple mistake in the Berserkers set to have it win. We’re stacking way to much power, if we just changed our food to Curry Butternut Squash and traded 100 Power for 100 Precision Berserkers will win.
1426 + 300 + 235 +100 +100 = 2161 Precision Total.
2156 is 64% critical hit chance, 2177 is 65%. Lets check 4 precision and 0 precision infusions, 4 should win.
Berserkers – Main Stat Power – DA30 – CS30 – 25 Might Stacks – Assassins Signet – Curry Butternut Squash Soup – Toxic Oil – 2 Power/4 Precision Infusions
(2019 + 329 + 300 + 250 + (35 * 25) + (5 * 2)) * ((1 * .35) + ((1.5 + 1.19) * .65)) =
7938.6255 Damage
Berserkers – Main Stat Power – DA30 – CS30 – 25 Might Stacks – Assassins Signet – Curry Butternut Squash Soup – Toxic Oil – 6 Power/0 Precision Infusions
(2019 + 329 + 300 + 250 + (35 * 25) + (5 * 6)) * ((1 * .36) + ((1.5 + 1.19) * .64)) =
7916.3248 Damage
So there we go, we managed to use correct food and Berserkers wins. And it goes without saying, if you remove any of the Power buffs, Berserkers just pulls further and further ahead. And, if you have 25 stacks of might, youre probably in a coordinated group and also getting fury, so lets look at that too.
Berserkers – Main Stat Power – DA30 – CS30 – 25 Might Stacks – Assassins Signet – Curry Butternut Squash Soup – Toxic Oil – 2 Power/4 Precision Infusions + Fury
(2019 + 329 + 300 + 250 + (35 * 25) + (5 * 2)) * ((1 * .15) + ((1.5 + 1.19) * .85)) =
9217.2795 Damage
Berserkers – Main Stat Power – DA30 – CS30 – 25 Might Stacks – Assassins Signet – Curry Butternut Squash Soup – Toxic Oil – 6 Power/0 Precision Infusions + Fury
(2019 + 329 + 300 + 250 + (35 * 25) + (5 * 6)) * ((1 * .16) + ((1.5 + 1.19) * .84)) =
9201.7388 Damage
Assassins w/ Fury
(2019 + 235 + 300 + 250 + (35 * 25) + 100 + (5 * 5)) * ((1 * .16) + ((1.5 + 1.19) * .84)) =
9204.1584 Damage
Assassins w/ Curry instead of Squash, 6 Precision infusions:
(2019 + 235 + 300 + 250 + (35 * 25) + (5 * 0)) * ((1 * .3) + ((1.5 + 1.19) * .7)) =
8031.257 Damage
Assassins w/ Curry instead of Squash, 6 Precision infusions + Fury:
(2019 + 235 + 300 + 250 + (35 * 25) + (5 * 0)) * ((1 * .1) + ((1.5 + 1.19) * .9)) =
9274.759 Damage
And Assassins is winning again, lulz.
Standing next to a banner of discipline w/ fury
Assassins w/ Curry instead of Squash, 6 Precision infusions
(2019 + 235 + 300 + 250 + (35 * 25) + (5 * 0)) * ((1 * .02) + ((1.5 + 1.19) * .98)) =
9772.1598 Damage
Berserkers – Main Stat Power – DA30 – CS30 – 25 Might Stacks – Assassins Signet – Curry Butternut Squash Soup – Toxic Oil – 2 Power/4 Precision Infusions
(2019 + 329 + 300 + 250 + (35 * 25) + (5 * 2)) * ((1 * .07) + ((1.5 + 1.19) * .93)) =
9728.7411 Damage
Lulz, go buy your Assassins gear for when you have even close to max buffs, because that isht is winning.
Outside of having max buffs, stick to Berserkers.
Removing Might Stacks:
Assassins – Sub Stat Power – DA30 – CS30 – Assassins Signet – Sweet & Spicy Squash Soup – Toxic Oil – 5 Power/1 Precision Infusion
(2019 + 235 + 300 + 250 + (5 * 5)) * ((1 * .36) + ((1.5 + 1.19) * .64)) =
5888.8464 Damage
Berserkers – Main Stat Power – DA30 – CS30 – Assassins Signet – Curry Butternut Squash Soup – Toxic Oil – 2 Power/4 Precision Infusions
(2019 + 329 + 300 + 250 + (5 * 2)) * ((1 * .35) + ((1.5 + 1.19) * .65)) =
6102.438 Damage
Removing Assassins Signet:
Assassins – Sub Stat Power – DA30 – CS30 – Assassins Signet – Sweet & Spicy Squash Soup – Toxic Oil – 5 Power/1 Precision Infusion
(1839 + 235 + 300 + 250 + (5 * 5)) * ((1 * .36) + ((1.5 + 1.19) * .64)) =
5514.1584 Damage
Berserkers – Main Stat Power – DA30 – CS30 – Assassins Signet – Curry Butternut Squash Soup – Toxic Oil – 2 Power/4 Precision Infusions
(1839 + 329 + 300 + 250 + (5 * 2)) * ((1 * .35) + ((1.5 + 1.19) * .65)) =
5724.708 Damage
Ok at some point I think I did something completely wrong, cause wtf, why is assassins winning now? lulz. Just get Berserkers weapons and Trinkets and Assassins Armor I guess, w/ Scholar runes, Butternut Curry Squash Soup, 5 Power/1 Precision infusions, and Toxic Maintenance Oil for when you have max buffs, All Berserkers when you don’t have them =3
Unless someone can prove this wrong? Good Luck with that!

I really only enjoy Thief. Managing Initiative, the ability to shadowstep around, stealth, big crits. I really enjoy this play style. I’ve made a few alts, but none of them have interested me. I’m a Thief, always will be. I can’t wait to see what the next patch brings that I have to adapt to.
No stunbreaks? Are you actually going 5-venom?
Just take 2-3 venoms and use stunbreakers …
You don’t need all 5 venoms to be effective. Even if your traits are venom based, you’re still SHARING it with other ppl so multiplying the trait by x times. (with X being 1 to 5). In a 2v2 fight venom sharing is very annoying to the other side. 5s immob on both targets (if clustered) and you can also time basilisk to hit before immob is cleared (unless they use a condi clearance, but immob isn’t prioritized in universal condi clearance).
I however agree with the healing. 36s cd on the healing is very long. It’s discussable equal (due to venom share but more likely inferior) to HiS so it should be at most 30-35s (traited 24-28s)
GL – “The Afternoon’s Watch” [OATH]
I think there is a deeper difference. Many of the people I know who watch MOBA or other streams (myself included) do so while doing something else. Every minute of gameplay isn’t make-or-break, so it is something that can be flipped to when the action heats up. I can check my bank statement and listen to the commentator. GW2 isn’t like that, WvW has enormous stretches of downtime and sPvP has almost none. A WvW stream is often dull because of the build-up to real action (for a viewer, watching a supply run is Zzzzz), whereas a PvP stream requires way more investment because of the constant changing action. If you flip away from a PvP stream and flip back, you have missed way more than flipping away from a few last hits in a MOBA or a scout dying in an RTS. You lose context very quicky if you leave the stream for any reason and it becomes noise.
The killer is that instead of investing myself 100% in a stream like that, I would rather just be playing.
Any Thief PvE build that isn’t based around DPS is a joke and should be ignored.

So that’s one page out of 17 in this thread wasted by just one person. Excessive trolling cannot be grounds for banning on this forum?
Obviously anet is allowing it.
Dear Grouch, my question is.. at what date will we be seeing a Pistol Whip buff?
Sincerely, Ozie.
- Current unopened chests: To open, or not to open
- Rank Tokens/tournament tokens With people that were late to the “horde your glory party”, and instead bought a bunch of chests, what can we expect to see done with the hundreds of rank tokens we now have from the salvaging?
- Achievements attracting new players immediately. With MMR being admittedly too high at the default level, what is being done to ensure those players aren’t immediately lumped in with seasoned players when they queue up for ranked tournaments as rank 1?
- Money/Glory spent on leveling tomes. Will the gold being spent be far less than the gold that would be spent in crafting? For around 4 gold I can get 10 levels from cooking. Will it be far less than that if I buy individual tomes?
- Duo Queue – Is there anything on the horizon to improve queueing for 2 friends? Right now, the option is team queue, where you’ll almost definitely face a full 5 man team, or struggle in hotjoin to get and stay on the same team.
- A way to differentiate between a PvP and PvE version of an item – Is there any way to possibly add a blue glow or some other easily identifiable way to see that the version was earned in PvP? There is something prestigious about being good at PvP in games, and it should show aesthetically.

Adding more utilities to the game is a great idea. Healing skills though? Why healing skills instead of utilities that could be creative and useful? Building other classes around the warriors healing signet instead of just nerfing healing signet sounds like what this is to me.
Because most utilities are boring and worthless and one more of them would be a drop in the bucket compared to a choice of one new healing skill? They’d need to create at least a batch of 4 new utilities per class to turn heads.
The healing skills are by far the most exciting choice you can make. Utilities are as I said mostly boring/useless with 1-2 so overwhelmingly more powerful than the rest that they are on everyone’s bar, Elites are a massive, universally disliked disappointment compared to the GW1 approach, and weapons are mostly chosen for you anyway. There’s always exactly 1 good melee set per build (of which there aren’t many viable), and exactly 1 good ranged set.
So that leaves heal skills, which together with traits shake up my playing style the most. A thief with Hide in Shadows plays completely different from one with Withdraw, for example.
But yeah, I hope together with the new skills they also rebalance the other 3 heal skills. Some classes need it dearly.
