Do you really want to see Scarlet responsible for the fall of Abaddon?

Wouldn’t surprise me if Scarlet was behind the fall of Abaddon as well.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Scarlet woke up the dragons.

Wouldn’t surprise me if it actually was Scarlet running away instead of Logan and killing Snaff.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Scarlet was actually Glint too.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Scarlet was Scarlett Johansson too.

I was debating about this with Devildoc the other day. Talking about how it was all speculation that Scarlet would be behind it all, while they were certain it would be. I thought to myself that maybe Anet would do something different this time around and not randomly make this about Scarlet.

Boy was I ever wrong. Really disappointed to see this is yet another “Surprise! It was Scarlet all along!” story. This had a lot of potential to be something different and interesting. Was instantly ruined by adding Scarlet to it.

Ive been extremely interested in Thaumanova lore since the beginning of the game, adding Scarlet in as the reason completely destroyed the whole thing for me.

Please stop adding Scarlet to everything, Its getting extremely annoying.

The worst possible choice, that’s who.

Come on guys. Enough of Scarlet. Enough of destroying asuran lore with this ridiculous sue character. Please. Please.

I could list the reasons why this was a bad idea. But other threads have done this already. My only thing to say is, as an asura player that loves their society and lore and history?

You are killing them for me.

It’s true that certain professions have an easier time simply dealing with soaking up damage with larger HP pools, but it’s arguable that this is clearly better than the damage avoidance or support mechanics of others. Regardless, adding enemies with endlessly increasing damage output and health isn’t really a very interesting way to add difficulty. That’s why we reduced the HP/Damage scaling in Fractals somewhat and started replacing it with the Mistlock Instabilities that you’ll find starting at level 31.

Observing players in the tower

An observation regarding the tower and complaints about its difficulty: people are still REALLY bad at the basics of the game and don’t seem to pay much attention to what’s going on around them. The tower is really good at exposing those two issues and punishing offenders accordingly.

I have run bottom to top numerous times in a desperate – and so far futile – bid to get the apparently mythical “green key” (notably even getting multiple keys on level two of only the blue and pink varieties…) and I’ve seen a couple of things over and over and over since the start of this event.

1. People pay no attention to the mines or the rings they create. Repeatedly I’ve seen groups run through the first and third floor mine fields with large numbers of individuals making absolutely no attempt to roll out of the blasts. I even see people who were downed by those blasts later run right next to mines and trigger them even when they could easily run wide around them

2. People repeatedly get hit with the warlock’s Life Blast volley because in Champ fights they just focus fire and ignore everything else. They stand there and watch it coming and don’t even blink, then wonder why they go down as if they just magically lost all their health with no warning

3. Not only do people frequently not bother to try and break cocoons, when cocooned themselves, they often just stand there waiting for others to break them out. Since the damage done by hitting 1 when cocooned is considerable, it makes it very difficult for everyone else to break people out if they don’t participate in the process themselves

4. People STILL, even after Southsun, pay absolutely no attention to stacking confuse and just continue to slap away at buttons even as they do thousands of points of damage to themselves in the process

5. People don’t understand how revives workittenep seeing people stopping an attack on an enemy with low HP that would rez a downed player on death to manually rez the person, even standing in AoE rings to do it so that they then go down as well. Obviously this is somewhat short-circuited by the annoying PvP-kill that was introduced for certain enemies, but many enemies in the tower don’t require that and killing them would still be a superior option to stopping an assault to rez a downed player

6. People will just mindlessly follow a blue hat no matter what even though that means nothing more than that they spent a hefty chunk of gold. On my last run we were running with a Commander who had absolutely NO idea where he was going and people kept following him anyway. I finally gave up and started running ahead to pop champ events so people would follow the map waypoints instead

I agree that there are some design issues with the tower. Notably the problem of having a large group that just runs through an area creating spawns they don’t kill that makes it extremely hard for a smaller group that follows behind to get through. However, it’s sort of hard for me to take complaints about difficulty seriously when I continually see a considerable chunk of the player base simply not exploiting basic controls available to them or applying a basic level of critical thought to their surroundings.

Part of what makes a game a game is that you are given a set of rules by which you operate in order to achieve some goal or best some opponent. If you’re not going to use those tools given to you, you can’t really complain that it’s too hard because you haven’t really tried to play it in the first place.

There is a spot in the middle of the Lion’s Arch harbor where a rock lies submerged just below the surface. This is a hazard to navigation, and there is no warning buoy. I am doing my job as a concerned citizen, standing out there waving off ships until the city engineers can either remove the rock or put up a warning.

In the meanwhile, it is getting dark. Could someone please bring out a light, and perhaps a sandwich as well?

What is does is start to reduce the amount of particles and details on effects once you have a certain # of them on screen. This system relies on us manually setting up a value for how noisy any given effect is so if turning it on does nothing in certain areas, we could simply not have set those effects up correctly. A cursory look at the data seems like they are setup, but there might be some caveats in how the Effect LOD system works that keeps it from turning on for those instances because it is an “important” boss. I’ll dig a bit deeper when I can.

Jon

And this is the problem. You (Anet) seem to have an issue with me, client side, controlling what I see on MY monitor. Instead you want to control it from YOUR side.

Give me the options, let me set my preferences, and be done with it. I don’t want an LOD to kick in. I want to hide useless, not needed visual pollution ALL THE TIME.

I don’t use my warriors Signet of rage because of the stupid, annoying golden bubbles of whatever I get from it, full time. I don’t want to see idiotic themed footsteps or annoying weapons spam. That being said, I don’t want to deny others from seeing it if that is their choice.

Client side. Please. Options, Please. The LOD setting does nothing to address the unrelenting, unwanted constant spam of Particle effects not even relating to combat.
Just standing in LA is painful.

It’s just like when we suggest a show/hide option for story prompts. Anet responds as if we were teenagers asking for whiskey and car keys.

No offense… but is there a point to this thread?

The last preview had almost 1000 replies and I don’t think a single line changed from the preview to live.

In case you are actually planning on making changes:

Necro:

Conditions simply aren’t viable in PvE. You must know this, i’m sure you actually play the game. Mark of blood was an underwhelming skill that was always just used on CD while waiting for other skills. This change doesn’t really make sense to me.

In PvE conditions need to be buffed, ideally with more torment coverage for necros. Changing dhurrmfire to 4 stacks of torment would be ideal for everyone. It would reduce the condition cover for necros in PvP, which would achieve your goal of reduced conditions there, and it would increase the PvE condition damage of necros in PvE where burn was useless due to other classes.

Of course all of this is fairly useless while the major problems with conditions still remain. You are essentially putting a band aid on my paper cut while my arm is still lying next to me in a pool of blood.

Everything the author said is spot on. He said most of what i’m saying in a very “easy to read and understand” way… btw thank you for the achievement.

Some of you say “ascended gear isn’t necessary” – but it is… If you don’t have it now, would be the same if you ran around with rare gear for the previous year instead exotic. It’s basically the same difference.

I agree completely – a no grind game turned into a pure grind this grind that game. You need ascended kitten and you have to grind for it, specially weapons (unless you get very lucky with drops and get the exact stats you need very often as a drop). You need dailyes/monthy for laurels, you need guild missions for commendations, you need fractals for rings and back piece, or you can farm sth else, but in larger quantities. Like if you want to make your ascended backpiece you can always grind kittenloads of t6 and whatnot, or money to buy them.
Then you need to grind daily events even after you finished the daily, but not really, but if you don’t you will take way more time to reach certain tresholds that hold the AP rewards, and you can NEVER get the AP you missed back. It could have been avoided by making 5 AP per day from dailies the maximum.
Also living story forces you to do achievements NOW or NEVER, which is exactly what Proxy said and I agree completely, not to mention I hold them responsible for us still not having expansions, upgrades to current game (except southsun, but that island just sucks anyways, it looks like it was forced out cause they felt they have to give us sth) or fixes to the broken stuff like before mentioned zhaitan fight.

Everything he said was completely true. Every promise they gave us has been broken. We started as a no-grind game, turned into a must-grind game. Free to play with many expansions that would be 6 months to a year apart turned into a fiasco of a living story that is mostly uninteresting with few exceptions, but the biggest problem, offers only limited time content, with, again, few exceptions. And because that has to be done immediately as it arrives or never.

Anet say it’s a chore they have put in front of them selves because us, but now it seems they have made a bad cause it wasn’t ready or they had no real idea so they just gave us sth they quickly made to fill a norm. On the other side it also means a lot of their time goes on living story when it should have been spent on giving us new maps and continent AKA horizontal progressions, which is what they promised in the first place. So a promise of nearly any vertical and much of horizontal progression turned into much of vertical and only limited horizontal progression with players taking a break mission out on much they will never get to see, and will hardly understand what’s going on at the time they joined us again.

I think the point that is worth stressing is that many of the problems touched on by the OP are entirely reversible, simply due to the fact that there is no compelling purpose for them to exist. There is no need for a separate reward system in sPvP, the bloodlust stat bonus, the extra stats on ascended gear (at least in WvW, which is where they matter), laurels being available solely from dailies, and so on. There are relatively simply methods for getting around almost all of it. The real reason why we will never see those problems solved has more to do with the unwillingness of a.net to reverse themselves even slightly on a given issue.
