Should just remove aqua breathers and let us use our helmets underwater. Can continue to display a breather graphic on the character if ‘necessary’. Currently there is really no support for aqua breathers in the game and they are just annoying (and probably confusing to some regarding armor rune bonuses).
Zulu Ox Tactics [zulu]
This isnt about any specific class, just stealth in general and those few classes that have it.
Plain and simple. Having stealth should be the “reward”. What do I mean by this?
Well, usually, in most balanced games, having stealth is in and for itself pretty darn good. But here not only do you not put handicaps and ways to counter it, but encourage the unlimited use of it, and if you think that wasnt enough, give certain class for free one of the highest damage spell that has absolutely no risk and cant be countered not even with blocks (which doesnt reveal said class) but also give them boons while in stealth.
In most games having stealth is already awesome, to countrest this you have handicaps like :
- Slow movement speed
- Means to reveal them
- CC reveals them (roots do not count as CC)
- Damage Reveals them
- Certain damage threshold reveals them
- Chance to see them
- Damage penalty
- Cant heal or put boons for a bit
- Cant reset fights at will every 4 seconds, usually have to burn a PRETTY LENGHTY cooldown to get out of combat when things go awry.
- Take 100% more or even more damage while stealthed.
But here? Spam it, make it annoying, uncounterable, give them boons, free uncounterable damage spells, all that while having all the benefices that come from stealth.
I believe Stealth should be good enough, no need to give it so many good things on top of that while not having ANY way of dealing with it other than swinging your sword in the air (if you have a ranged weapon you are screwed) and wasting all CDs in the hope that something, just something will connect, and even if it does, you wont know, and it will for sure not be 8k damage, which would only be fair considering certain classes free access to it every 4 seconds.

Even if it doesn’t (and it might), I’ll willingly drag stuff to my char to throw into the wallet just to get it out my hair! Gosh, I’m so happy about that! If its actually a wallet, and doesnt have the 250 stack limit…I may die of happiness.
It will not have the 250 stack limit. Currencies in the wallet will act the same as karma and gold do currently.
Account Wallet for Currency
Keep all of your currencies in one easy-to-find location! This Wallet holds dungeon tokens, coins, karma, laurels, Guild Commendations, Fractal Relics, Badges of Honor, gems, and glory and makes them accessible to any character on your account. Upon logging in with each unique character for the first time after the Wallet has gone live, that character will have all of their currencies deposited into the account-wide collection.
My only question would be whether or not it knows to clean out your bank tabs as well as your character…?
What are those things you think could get some tweakings?
The main tweak necessary is in the players’ head. “Iconic weapon” in this context actually means “I want ArenaNet to follow all fantasy stereotypes and so I’m going to complain until the weapons do exactly what I think they should do”.
Guardian’s shield is a group support tool, focus works for self defense. I couldn’t care less if someone thinks Guardians are “paladins” (WoW is over there ->) who should use shield for self defense. Same with Elementalists and staves – daggers are more damage focused, staves are more suited for utility, and that’s working rather nicely as it is. No need to change how those weapons work due to a player’s narrow point of view.
treadmill, of being in that obvious pattern of every time I catch up you are going to
put another carrot in front of me” – Mike O’Brien right before Ascended weapons
Engi-elementalists are only on the top-secret test server dude. You’re crapping all over the NDA.
But I agree, the Calamity Bombardier downed skill is overpowered under certain conditions. However you have to consider the following:
- In order to get the kind of instant turnaround you’re describing, you have to trait it with Pyroclastic Laser Velociraptor-Maelstrom and Shrapnel Holocaust Smilodon-Frappe, which are both Grandmaster traits, as well as Precognitive Artillery Guidance Gnomes, and your choice of Banshee Aetherstorm Apparatus or Bio-mechanical Wendigo Mandibles for taste, if you like the combo of Vulnerable/Poisoned/Bamboozled/Weakness more than Bleeding/Chilled/Hoodwinked/Weakness.
- Doing so prevents you from taking any of the traits that contribute to the Titan Cataphract build where you focus more on the Bazooka configuration of your two-handed Mountain Cleaver, which can construct skeletal iron golems and knock them backwards in time to assassinate John Connors. I don’t know if you’ve tried that build, but it’s pretty strong, especially when you’re fighting things in the Phantom Zone. So there’s definitely an element of sacrifice in blocking yourself out of anything higher than 10 in your Skynet trait line.
- In order to get the true instant-rez effect, you have to toggle the Avatar State (F3) before you’re downed. And in case you skipped the part of the tutorial that explains that (blah, blah, blah, where’s the skip to the end button, I don’t even care that they hired Liam Neeson to be the voice of the apocryphal hidden interdimensional Seventh Elder Dragon of Heavy Metal if he won’t shut up about our class features, am I right?), doing so risks breaking the cycle of Reincarnation if you fail to rally, which would leave Fire Lord Ozai free to ravage the Earth Kingdom with his armada of flamethrower zeppelins.

For a game which has its entire end-game progression based around weapon and armor skins, it amazes me on how inflexible dressing up is.
We keep getting barraged with new skin after new skin, but guess what? Many of us are stuck using 1-2 sets because using the new skin either forces us to override our old skins, or buy an entirely new set of equipment.
What if one of the skins I’m using is discontinued? If I transmuted it that skin would be lost forever so I guess the only real option is to get an entirely new piece of equipment. The price of an exotic piece of equipment isn’t bad, but what if you have a rune or sigil which costs over 5 gold? Even worse, what if you need a second ascended item, which we will have armor and weapon versions of soon enough.
Then we have storage space. What if I want 2-3 looks for every equipment stat I have? Suddenly I have multiple storage tabs filled up with skins alone, and that’s only talking about a single character!
We could really use a more flexible system for armor and weapon skins, similar to that used in SPvP.

Nope they need to be harsher. Over-achiever and no lifer come to mind.
Anyone who plays less than me is a noob.
Anyone who plays more than me is a no-lifer.
Resident Thief
…if they didn’t have Achiever in them?
They are, for reference:
Respected Achiever
Acclaimed Achiever
Heralded Achiever
Masterful Achiever
Personally, they seem like a bit of a mouthful to me. This is not to mention they’re the equivalent of the Kind of a Big Deal title track from GW1, and in this there was no mention of ‘Achievements’.
Being able to add Respected, Acclaimed, etc. as a title to my character seems fairly cool to me, but Respected Achiever just sounds silly (achiever is not a word you expect to hear used very much).
The character is born as a hero who later becomes a member of an Order and gets promoted so that at the end he/she become a simple filler in a big army with some to no responsibilities at all who kills the huge dragon threat spamming skill No 1.
What do we do now? Living Story.
So we dropped from The Hero of… to Mr. Nobody in 80 levels
This is a first in all my RPG games playing history.
leman.7682, thank you for your constructive feedback! The way you analyze AoE/condi/boons is extremely helpful.
As others have already pointed out, we have to be delicate about some of these changes. I know it can be frustrating for you guys, because it feels like changes are coming slowly at times, but please understand that a bad balance patch that is rushed is not a good balance patch. Balance is an extremely important aspect of the game, which is why we can’t just rush changes without allowing the meta to adapt.
There are so many things to consider when balancing a game, so I would like to list out some examples so that you understand the depth here, and why we go at the pace that we go out.
1. Consider the current meta.
- We play the live game for several hours a week on our off time. This means that after 9 hours of work in the office, we go home, and we play the game (which is essentially more work, as we are taking that time to analyze balance and the meta). I know that playing a game sounds fun to those of you not in the industry, but when you’re analyzing it and trying to determine if things need to be changed, it’s not just a casual-fun kind of situation. Please try to consider this, and think about how you would feel if you dedicated most of your time to something that people constantly bash.
- We read your feedback. Be it on the forums, or in the game. Most of our devs will discuss balance with players in the game.
2. Consider the creative mind of the playerbase.
- Sometimes, there are really good builds that are not discovered for months on end. This is affected by our current playerbase, as well as a revolving meta.
- This is not meant as a slight, but the truth is that sometimes things are changing so quickly that you guys just don’t have time to explore new builds and find that one gem that has escaped others.
3. Allow previous changes to settle.
- This ties in to the previous two listed. The balance changes we make are very deliberate and calculated. This means that we need to give you guys time to find the gems that we have put in the game, and then allow the meta to adapt to your creative mind.
edit: hit post reply too soon
4. PvE
- Yes, I know many of you have a gripe with this. However, we have to consider all aspects of the game when balancing. We can’t just suddenly split all the skills in the game. Also, splitting skills can be really jarring, and a huge barrier to entry for new players to join us in PvP land.
5. The game should be fun.
- I know this goes without saying.
I will put this in uber formatting awesomeness for emphasis, because I’m sure some of you will miss it. Please understand that this only scratches the surface, and is not everything we think about when balancing the game.
Ps. this is what happens when you ask for transparency. Allie writes an essay during her lunch hour xD

So tired of reading all the kittening about.. how this sucks.. or I want this… Or do this.. Or do that…. Can’t you people appreciate the fact that your playing the best MMO out there?
I can understand the fact that you want them to excel….
But really?
Can you people say thanks? Is it that flippin hard?
Just Sayin…..
That is all….
Dead mobs don’t attack.
The main goal to winning this game is surviving the DEAD. That’s right, the first thing you have to do is literally run and hide from all the future dead players. Hide and hope none of them find you because if even one finds you, you’re dead.
The dead players have an absurd amount of control over the game in it’s current state. I’m all for letting the dead players contribute to the game to speed thing’s up and have fun but to give them direct control over the outcome of the entire match is depressing. Giving them the ability to knock down a player dropping everything and summon a huge insta-kill karka above their grounded body or being able to instantly apply a 20 second(?) 6 stacks or torment is just too much.
The game has a lot of potential – could have been my favorite mini game – but right now, certain mechanics are making this the least fun mini-game to date.
The dead players are more of a concern than the other survivors. The whole game is just screwed up.
Did this around my house http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zS1cLOIxsQ8
My reaction for the coming patch.
FEEL THE STRENGTH OF THE EARTH
Vicodium – Ranger (IX) Coldsnap
This was my reaction to it. Might as well make this a ranger reaction thread.
PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald
The amount of stupid in this thread is too kitten high!
It’s not about asuras. It’s about the horrible camera.
How to fix the horrible camera:
Step 1. Give us an option for how high or low we want the camera angle to be.
Step 2. Give us first person view.
Step 3. Watch people rage about the positive changes.

I’m waiting for someone to drop in any minute and complain about the rewards from the chest.
