The HoT expansion costs $50, available only bundled with a “free” copy of the core game.
When the core game goes on sale, it costs $10. We can thus pretty fairly feel that the “freebie” in the bundle is a $10 bonus value.
But the practical upshot for those of us who own the game already is this: by including the core game for “free” ANet has tipped their hand that they’ve effectively padded out the price of the expansion by 10$ (the cost of the core game at its lowest price) over what it might otherwise need to be.
You know what else costs $10? Extra character slots. Which is exactly what current players of the game do want and need with the expansion.
If ANet can afford to “give away” one “free” $10 value item with the $50 purchase of HoT, why can’t they do it with another? The value, monetarily, is the same.
This, I think, is why so many of us feel so slighted. Getting the $10 value of the core game is nice for new players, but it’s a thumbing of the nose at existing players who ANet must know would not want to spend $10 in that way. It leaves current (and often very loyal and long-term) players feeling like they pretty much have to subsidize the bonus value being offered to new players, while they themselves are left out in the cold, not given the one thing they really want which, mathematically, is a simple even swap out: an additional character slot.
The idea, certainly, is to generate more income by getting players to spend out on character slots separately. However from the consumer side of things, we can all see that if ANet can afford to give one $10 value freebie that they could just as well give another. It doesn’t make us feel like we are getting a fair value for our money. It makes us feel snubbed, taken advantage of, and resistant to buying anything.
I don’t understand the godkitten point of “initiating” with the bulls charge HB combo. Like seriously initiate that when people have Aegis, stability prior, and etc?
It’s better to use it as a finisher when they don’t have anymore stun breaks to be honest. But w/e, this build’s still out-dated crap I guess.
Thief just destroys PVP in this game, its not OP but its just such a unique snowflake that completely destroys everything that makes PVP fun.
If there are no thiefs in game you play one way and if there is thief you have to play completely different way.
You cant rotate like you normally would cause thief will always get to your close before you do and as there is no cooldowns you cant just expect that he decaps once and then you can leave close cause he can teleport across map just few seconds later.
If you are low on HP after teamfight you normally just continue playing cause you know no range class is able to kil you and no melee can burst you before teammates help you, thief can just teleport in burst you down and teleport out.
The teleporting just destroys any positioning in fights, you position against melee one way against caster other way but thief just teleports and bursts you no matter how you position.
Initiative takes out any strategy out of fights, you see thief uses interrupt yet you cant still cast your heal safely because he has 2nd 3rd and 4th interrupt, again all depends on thief and there is nothing you can do.
Its just some outer space class, everyone plays GW2 one way but thiefs just brakes all laws of game and play their way and forces everyone play completely different game when joining match.
ferocity was introduced exactly for the effect you describe. Why would anet re-buff crit damage?
I would like to see the SKIN’s NAMES clearly. As was before!
For example, “Azureflame” instead of “Zojja’s Greatbow of Fail”
Guess I’m not alone with this… Please support me! w/+1
Repeat after me… ’It’s just a game & she’s a fictional character’.
Well, LA just got a lot less fun. Focusing a game that is “play how you want” around open world raids (let’s not beat around the bush, LA is a raid now), you effectively cut off your bread-and-butter market: The casuals.
1) Condition damage is native to many classes, without the ability to turn it off. Then the gateway bosses for the “main event” hurt you with your own condition damage. Not cool.
2) Boss-to-Boss zerging is just about the max organization you could expect from a player base that never coalesces behind a single leader. There is no method of effective communication, and most people have no idea what to do or which commander tag to follow.
3) Making the knights a DPS check while severely nerfing DPS. Without the ground buff for each knight, you do 0% of your damage, while still having your condition damage reflected in your face. WITH the buff, you do 50% of your damage and still eating condition damage.
WHY ANET decided that this event needed to be more restrictive to its player base is a mystery. “Look at this cool new stuff we created for you! PSYCHE! You aren’t GOOD enough” is a poor business model. There is not even a “balance” for this content that needs to be maintained, since “end game” for us is Pretty Pretty Princess Dress-Up Party.
So I just tried that “Kill 3 Legendary Clockworks” quest. It is nothing but a DPS test. Can we please stop having quests like these?
These quests are saying:
If you are not using berserker gear, go home.
WHY would they make that stupid cutscene unskippable. I’m sick of wasting my time having to wait for this to play out and then getting owned by her bull abilities that bypass stability and dodging in 5 seconds like it was nothing.
I hate Anet so much sometimes. Like the character wasn’t annoying enough already.
I did not say this build beats every build did I?
I’m just curious, what build do you think yours counters?
Naked AFK upscale staff Elementalists?
This is a classic Play How You Want Thread
1. OP mades a dubious anti-meta claim.
2. OP is challenged on it using examples/proof/etc of why the meta choice is superior.
3. OP responds with amorphous comment about how it fits with his “playstyle” as if somehow skills work differently on his client than everyone elses
4. OP is challenged that, no, it is objectively worse.
5. OP finds one tiny, infinitesimally minute circumstances where it is debatablely useful.
6. Everyone scratches their head.
Last stand does not stop damage from conditions. I’ll happily duel you with my condition spec and swap to my power spec vs your hybrid but I already know the outcome.
Feel free to send me a PM in game. It seems words won’t convince you, maybe actions will?
All in all, to people reading this, don’t use this build. It will very much kitten you in every aspect of gameplay.
That’s not how it works. To put out power damage you need power, critical chance and critical damage. That’s how a power build works. It’s meant to out an opponent from 100% to 0 as fast as possible.
Conditions need just condition damage to be effective, however condition builds is a game of attrition. To wear your opponent down slowly, which mean you need to be a tank. Dire gear makes you that tank. Trying for both actually hinders both sides of the coin.
I’d love to meet the people you are fighting
Power and condition doesn’t work. Choose a power build or condition build. Not both. Defiant stance isn’t good if you want to be tanky, healing signet outshines it. PVT or VPT gear for power, Dire for condition.
Traits are too all over the place.
Unfortunately it just doesn’t work for me in high lvl fractals. I have a much better performance all around with axe offhand compared to mace.
Explain, specifically, how “it doesnt work” for you? Does your Mace not knock down the Ascalonian Fighters? Does your Warhorn not put Weakness on the dredge?
Explain, specifically, how offhand Axe gives you better performance. Does your Axe #5 magically have higher dps than just autoattacking? Does your Axe #4 do something other than add Fury you didn’t need?
I think it needs to be made ultra-clear: you are better of equipping offhand Mace and not using any of the mace skills than you are equipping offhand axe and activating any of the skills.
I hope no one seriously listens to this advice.
If you “don’t see” why mace is better than axe you really don’t understand.
Mace 4 = 4% dps boost for your team
Mace 5 = on demand aoe knock down for trash mobs or interrupt for bosses.
Axe 4 = useless Fury when every warrior build already had perma Fury
Axe 5 = low dps aoe attack that is worse than an auto attack in every case except 6+ enemies which happens essentially almost never
You would be better off with offhand warhorn than axe when fighting large groups of mobs, since the AOE Weakness is going to be very significant.
Against difficult bosses, you can replace the mace with off hand sword with energy sigil for the additional dodge and block.
Holy mother of misinformation…

Thank you, Proxy. This is the only fully accurate post in this thread, listen to this man.
celestial although it will take some time to aquire
can you tell me about your experience with celestial on warrior? I got the charged crystals now and was wondering if it’s wondering if it’s worth to make ascended celestial for warrior. My friends keeps telling me that it’s waste of gold ._.
It is a waste of time. There is no middle ground in GW2, because it’s bad. Trying to be good at everything means you’re good at nothing.
Celestial means you give up stats you want for stats you don’t.
Spoiler Alert
ANet, I think Marjory Delaqua deserves better than this.
You don’t need gazillion pieces of evidence to discover that Scarlet is going to attack Lion’s Arch. And the Captain’s Council in this LS is made to look so incompetent. You’re telling me that when an enemy’s probe is right at your doorstep, “Scarlet won’t attack LA so soon again”? The fact that it has been attacked before should make the Council deploy more forces in its defence.
The Aetherblades’ Retreat was in Lion’s Arch. Now there’s suddenly a probe in LA waters.
LA, lore-wise right now, is pretty damaged after the karka invasion in The Lost Shores, and the Aetherblades’ attack in Dragon Bash. People in LA should either be living in fear or fleeing from it.
For these reasons alone, it can already be deduced that LA has a high chance of being sieged, and if it were to be attacked, its losses this time would be exponential. Shouldn’t the bulk of the Lionguard across the continent be recalled to LA to bolster its defence? I mean, DUDE, this mad sylvari has FOUR kittening armies! She could march her armies by foot in broad daylight from the four corners of Tyria and still inflict heavy damage.
You don’t need Marjory to deduce all that. She deserves more.
The 10 pieces of evidence could instead be used to tell us more about her true intent. Right now, it is used to tell us only about her next move. Could the 10 pieces be cross-referenced and examined with past Guild Wars 1 lore (or perhaps craft NEW Guild Wars 1 lore by introducing us something that happened in GW1 that we never heard before, but fits in the circumstances then, or something between GW1 and GW2. Then we can extrapolate more accurately her motives.
What do you think about this, guys?

I think in this day and age, it’s a bit odd if you feel any strange feelings due to them being a lesbian couple. It’s more and more common for people to be in same-sex relationships.
Honestly, I’d imagine there’ll be no dramas in their relationship, Caithe/Faolain and Logan/Jennah cover the dramatic and complicated relationships in the game, we don’t really need another one.
Best way to fix this would have been to not implement higher gear tiers >.>
I just don’t understand why Warden II is so difficult for some people to beat. It is a fairly simple mechanic, run him over his mines when he is spinning, but people just can’t seem to get it down. Before anyone says that some people don’t know what to do yet I don’t accept that as an answer for any of the Wardens, and this is why. Not only are the instructions on how to defeat the Wardens written under their health bars you also have resources like the wiki to get the info you need, and if all of that somehow goes over your head you have about 15 different people telling you how to beat the boss in /map chat. Maybe it’s the server I’m on, maybe people are really just that inept at some things, maybe it really is that hard I just get lucky every time I run the boss and beat it, or maybe people just don’t care. Someone please tell me why simple concepts are beyond some people who attend this event and why we have to fail because of their ignorance on the boss fight. I’m honestly stumped.
Not everyone is analytical or attentive enough to notice the boss mechanics are clearly detailed under the nameplate. A lot of casual players seem to have the ‘SMASHBUTTONZ’ mindset and probably just afk as soon as they enter the platform..
Also doesn’t help that you have rangers who are clueless on putting their pets to passive.
In order to complete these achievements you have to succeed the Warden event (the entire event up on the platforms) without being hit by the Marionette. If you are hit, you don’t get it. If you fail the event, you don’t get it. Stay sharp and break that chain and you’ll have it.
So..in order to get what should be simple achievements, we have to not only complete the event without taking any damage from the Marionette while also dealing with the Champion Boss on our platform, but also rely on the other four groups to not fail their events, otherwise we get no credit what so ever.
…Oh sweet mother of poorly thought out achievements. Welp, guess I’ll be doing the Daily for the LS each day in order to get enough to credit to finish the meta.
.. but I’ve found I’ve already gotten bored and moved back to doing other things. And that never usually happens for me with LW content.
I like the idea of a challenging boss that requires a lot of coordination from a group.. it is an MMO after all. But these events just aren’t fun to participate in after trying them a few times:
- Too much waiting around.
- Too much annoyance trying to get a party into an OF that actually has a decent number of players in it.
- Too much failure.
- Too little reward when you fail.
I’m glad they don’t give out oodles of drops for each kill, as that would just encourage farming rather than trying to beat the event. But spending an hour and getting almost nothing for the effort stinks. And while I felt we should wait a bit before passing judgment on the difficulty, I think it’s pretty obvious at this point that these are too difficult for most people to be able to participate in a team that actually beats them.
I hope this doesn’t become yet another example of what’s all too common in MMOs: great content that clearly took a lot of time and effort to make, that gets ignored by most players because it needs to be tweaked but isn’t.
starting to worry anet isnt going to adress this until the living world content is already finished..
There’s nothing that actually warrants a preview. No new features or balance changes. Just more scarlet.
Probably not much to write about for this update.
They are trying to ‘hype’ it up like they did with the Queen’s Speech, which resulted in nothing.
As already mentioned a lot of player from Norway are having issues with high latency only in GW2 during day time.
Can you merge the threads for easier Network issues reports?

Sounds like a rather bad idea (even though I personally would qualify).
Hiding current rewards behind something that can no longer be completed is never a good idea.
