Very well phrased, I agree wholeheartedly.
However, I hope that Anet actually have been taking our feedback to heart and that this interview reply was just badly phrased.
Subpar writing, rushed releases due to the two week update cycle and then crammed achievement requirements to give the illusion of player interest through activity. Like I’ve said before in other threads, I sure hope Anet uses other ways to measure fun factor than AP accumulation and time spent in zergs.
Again, nice post!
I just skimmed most of it. and I do agree on just about everything you said. The “Origins” story doesn’t depict or even correlate to what is going on in the game. Would it have been better if there was a glimpse of why she is doing what she’s doing? Yea. Like you said, we dont’ see any of this ingame.
All we see her say is “DIE DIE DIE” and she laughs. her character does suck, not very well written. The origins is decent in writing, but the delivery of Scarlet in game is bad.
Hopefully it will be up soon. I can pretty much tell you what it will say though:
1. Something something, Scarlet is back
2. Participate in fight against giant Margaret Thatcher for a chance at a unique backpeice.
3. NEW UNIQUE REWARDS introduced with a BRAND NEW world boss.
Marksmanship:
1. Keen edge – is not affected by wilderness knowledge.
2. Opening strike – not viable. Poor concept.
3. Alpha training – not viable. Poor concept.
4. Precise strike – not viable. Poor concept.
5. Piercing arrows- arrows should pierce by default.
6. Signet of the beastmaster – signet’s active effect should be granted to the player by default.
7. Remorseless – not viable. Poor concept.
Skirmishing:
1. Primal reflexes – cool down too long.
2. Agility training – pet should move faster than players by default.
Wilderness survival:
1. Healer’s celerity – swiftness should be switched to stability.
2. Shared anguish – cool down too long.
3. Expertise training – change to +500 condition damage.
4. Oakheart salve – change to reduce condition duration of bleeding, poison, burning 33%
5. Hide in plain sight – change camouflage to stealth.
6. Bark skin – change to increase duration of protection 50%
Nature magic:
1. Circle of life – change to increase healing spring duration 20%
2. Fortifying bond – change grant vigor to stability.
Beastmastery:
1. Instinctual Bond : change to pet gain quickness when you are disabled.
2. Master’s Bond : change to increase base pet stats by 35 points.
3. Compassion training : change to +500 healing power.
Ridiculous build for wvw. Aim was to get largest crits possible. Expect to top 20k even vs rank 80 players. Very much a glass cannon spec, but hideously good fun to play.
Try it and enjoy.

It may appear to look as thou this is a qq thread but it’s not my intention,
The devs look like really nice peeps and im sure they are, they just have a nice way about them and i like them, i wonder thou what actually happened with gw2.
Things from the manifesto are quite the opposite, grind for example, i am sure the devs have been asked this before but idk, why the change? what happened? was it necessary? was the manifesto a ideal to strive for but in reality not really possible?
Does anyone have any links to the devs explaining why the game isn’t like the manifesto?
Again this isn’t a qq thread, i guess they had to make these changes but id like to know why.
sigh Scarlet did it…
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

Ascend:
1. to move, climb, or go upward; mount; rise: The airplane ascended into the clouds.
2. to slant upward.
3. to rise to a higher point, rank, or degree; proceed from an inferior to a superior degree or level: to ascend to the presidency.
Hi! I’m wanting to discuss the position of ascended gear in GW2 in it’s current state. Currently, ascended gear is the “vertical” progression of the game, and gives players a very small advantage (~5%) over players decked out in Exotic gear. The main purpose for ascended gear is for agony resistance in the Fractals of the Mists.
I’m here to propose a change for ascended gear that will open up more potential uses for it and explain why this is a useful change.
As it stands now, it takes a very long grind to obtain this gear. Thousands of materials, hundreds of gold, and hours of grinding is in store for those attempting to acquire ascended items. Let’s look at the materials for just one set of ascended armor:
-1500 Dragonite Ore
-1500 Empyreal Fragments
-1500 Bloodstone Dust
-90 Obsidian Shards
-120 Skill Points
-Many, many other various miscellaneous materials.
I don’t know about you, but thats a lot of stuff to acquire. For a 5% stat boost. And this is all for a small minority of players who are really getting into higher level fractal missions.
Seems like a whole lot of work for very little benefits, don’t you agree? Here’s where my suggestion comes into place. For those of you who have a legendary weapon, you know just how amazing it is to be able to change the stats on your weapon on the fly whenever you’re out of combat.
Bring this feature to ascended gear, ANet.
Now keep your pants on, fellow Tyrians. I know this sounds drastic. “Why should ascended gear have the same features as a legendary item, something that is far harder to obtain?” Good question! To that, here is my answer:
There are currently 18~ stat prefixes in the game. Once you’ve unlocked a single piece of ascended gear, you now unlock a new category under skill points called “Ascension”. This screen is where you to to unlock stat prefixes via Skill Points. Think about it: how many skill points do you have just lying around, gathering dust? This would be a perfect way to give players a reason not only to spend Skill Points, but to also want ascended gear. How many skill points does a stat prefix cost, you ask? I can’t say! But if it’s anything like ANet’s new skills that they’re releasing, I’d be just fine with 25 Skill Points per prefix.
This system would give players a lot of versatility with their builds in top notch gear, and give players reason to actually grind for it other than Fractals and a measly ~5% stat boost. Guild Wars 2 is a game that raves about versatility and build exploration, and I believe this would make good to ANet’s claim.
Like the idea? Hate it? Think it needs something else? Sly remarks? Comment below! Let us make discussion, fellow gamers!

Add to this:
10. No competing for nodes! There is nothing more maddening in other MMOs than fighting through 15 mobs for a rare node, only to have someone else ninja the node for you.
11. Travel that doesn’t involve horrendously expensive mounts or having to walk through a zone to get to the next. I remember those days of EQ1 with the epic runs across territory just to get to the area you wanted to be in…and I don’t remember them fondly.
12. Things to do – Yes, people complain about not having anything to do, but seriously, there’s really a lot. Some of it may not be to one’s particular liking, but if you look hard enough, there’s always something going on.
13. The world – like the game or not, the world is absolutely one of the most beautiful and detailed worlds I have ever seen in a game. There are mountains, snow, jungles, day-glow plants, forests, plains, cities, ruins, graveyards, water, and giant coral structures. The details in everything are so fine as well. Your footprints in sand fade as if they’re washed away by the water, you raise dust when walking on the paths, you have shadows, and there are minuscule bugs, birds, and other “ambients.” Grasses move in the breeze, and even your hair moves when you do. Even after running over the same ground for over a year, I still have to stop and just look at stuff from time to time.
14. Finally, there are the people who play. Yes, there are kittens, but in general, the people I have met have been wonderful.
So, yes, there is a LOT of things they got right. Thank you for reminding me, Proxy.
… People know about the trait. If you think after months of people shouting about Heal Sig that you’re adding some new information here with Adrenal Health you’re mistaken.
Ranger is broken. Warrior is fine as it is, there’s a few class that needs buffing, one of them being ranger.
30/30/30/30/30 builds are becoming very popular – not to mention the trait that allows 4 weapon sets.

This is a soloqueue roamer build. I’ve played this build almost exclusively since the last leaderboard changes, and it’s got me to top 25. I’m not the best warrior ever, nor is this any kind of super-secret sauce op build. It’s just a kitten fun, non-meta build that’s proven to be successful in soloqueue.
First:
I made this build because I missed my burst warrior. Meta warrior builds provide better aoe, and can have a bigger presence in teamfights. This build however, is a true roamer; mobility and single target burst dps/lockdown are the strengths. If I don’t think the team comp needs that (maybe some thieves on the team already), I reluctantly switch to GS/LB* or another class.
Traits/gear:
I’m not going to bore you with a lot of trait explanations, just point out the big ones.
- Burst mastery and mobile strikes are central to the concept of the build. You get on demand immob breaks with both weapons, and frequent eviscerates.
- Power line is a solid investment for your axe damage, and it grants the very underrated minor: “building momentum”.
- Cleansing Ire vs more damage. I tested both, but the added sustain from taking cleansing ire + healing signet wins out. Most fights aren’t won in one burst rotation, this trait keeps you in the game longer. If you want to play man mode though, switch to healing surge + 30/0/0/10/30**.
- Lyssa runes supply much needed precision and a big condi clear. I typically try to save my lyssa proc to be my condi clear when I can’t get a cleansing ire off, then pop zerk stance and do my dps rotation.
- Shield reflecting is just awesome to use. Try to reflect pin down vs LB warriors, rapid fire vs. power rangers, illusionary duelist vs mesmers, scepter spam vs guardians.
- Sigils are up to personal preference. I put a suggestion up there, but you can use others. I’ve been playing around with more crit chance, not sure if it’s worth it.
How to play:
The most crucial part of this build is playing against your enemy, this isn’t a faceroll build. You’re going to get creamed if you try to burst while blinded or weakened, or waste skills on a prot/stab/aegis opponent. The good news is you have the dps to take out any class/build in the game, as long as you land your hits.
The second most crucial part of this build is managing CDs. Every stun and utility is precious, use them to accomplish a goal, not just because they’re off cd. Fear me in particular has huge teamfight impact, and while it can be used to deliver dps, it should be a last resort. Ideally you try to win a fight without using any of these tools, so they’re available for down state management. Zerk stance is great for rezes against condi pressure, stab for safe stops, fear for rupting stompers/rezers, etc.
What else?
- Only use final thrust on a <50% opponent
- Your standard burst juggle is Mace #5 -> Axe burst-> Swap -> Shield #4 -> Sword #3
- Sword is a great tool for engaging and disengaging, use it. Leap to los cover if you’re getting lit up, start your eviscerate from behind LOS so it doesn’t get dodged.
- Eviscerate during enemy dodges/evades (practice your timing), for nearly unavoidable damage.
- Really there’s lots of combos and set-ups to be done if you get creative. Flurry can be used to land final thrust, or axe autoattacks. While in melee range, axe 3 to cripple then fear to land big axe AA dmg.
That’s about it. Not always easy to play, but fun, rewarding, and something different. Let me know questions/criticism, I love discussing stuff.

‘*I shouldn’t say reluctantly, I love gs/lb. Never been a huge fan of hambow gameplay though.
**Playing 30/0/0/10/30 is so unforgiving that it forced me to get much better at playing this spec, and it’s fun.
They are gold sinks, and absolutely necessary for a healthy in-game economy.
I was kind of disappointed that Tixx didn’t visit the cities this year. He made a b-line for LA and bypassed everyone else… Maybe they were all naughty this year?
Please fix it! People I blacklisted should not be able to join my party, ty.

Dunno if anyone complained about it before, but they look really ugly. My main is warrior, so I wanted to get ascended for him, but the heavy armor look really turned me off.
Now you will say use transmutation stone. Ofcourse, I will if I ever craft a set.
Was it intended to make the BiS armor so ugly? I guess so. Very clever move by Anet. Make the crafted armor ugly and then sell the good skins on TP for gems, plus the transmutation stone price if anyone wants some other armor skins. Hell, even the draconic armor set looks way better than the ugly ascended ones. Way to go, Anet!!

Hey, everyone. We’ve been reading all your feedback about the Flamekissed Armor Skin that was released into the Gem Store yesterday.
Although the Flamekissed Armor uses the same mesh as the Tier 3 Human Cultural Armor, it was not our intention to create an armor skin that so closely matched the existing Tier 3 Human Cultural armor set. The intention was to use the mesh as a basis for creating an armor set that stands apart and is distinct in appearance. However, after reading your feedback, we agree that the Flamekissed armor is not visually distinct enough from Human Cultural Tier 3 armor.
We will do a few things to address this issue.
- We will temporarily remove Flamekissed Armor Skin from the Gem Store.
- Players who have purchased Flamekissed Armor Skin will keep the skin.
- We will make new art for the Flamekissed Armor Skin that achieves our goal of making a visually distinct and attractive armor set and does not closely resemble the Human Tier 3 Cultural armor.
- Once this new artwork is completed, we will then update the Flamekissed Armor Skin so that all existing sets that players have purchased get the new art. We will also offer the Flamekissed Armor Skin for sale again at that time.
- When we update the Flamekissed Armor Skins with the new artwork, any player that has already purchased the set and who does not like the new, updated look, can get a full refund by contacting Customer Support.
Note that there is no ETA on when this change will happen. We need to work with the Character Art Team to determine when we can have a new armor skin ready, and this could take some time.
Thank you everyone for providing your feedback. We appreciate that you took the time to let us know how you feel about the new armor set.

Wintersday 2013: “How Scarlet Stole Wintersday”
Hopefully this thread maintains the constructive criticism these forums require and not be deleted.
I really enjoy this game for a lot of reasons, from dodge rolling to WvW. The world was rich an immerse the moment I stepped foot into it. Once I caught up on the lore by playing Guild Wars 1, I really appreciated the story.
Then a weed named Scarlet was introduced. Sure, she felt a bit wacky, but I was okay with it at first. Then she started cropping up in everything, and it began to feel forced and unoriginal.
Now she is behind the Thaumanova Reactor and there are aether-looking items around the world with a sign saying “DO NOT TOUCH” (clearly of Scarlet design), and I’m just done.
ArenaNet writers, your players are speaking to you.
Listen closely; this is the important part:
We do not like Scarlet Briar!
Tarnished Coast
Who would’ve turned out to be Scarlet is some stupid plot twist.
