Why do people keep using the argument that zerker gear users aren’t interested in having fun? Don’t you understand that some people get enjoyment out of seeing massive damage numbers?

But no, bad gear is apparently “more fun” and has “more flair”. You guys just … baffle me.

Sometimes simplicity and elegance is the best. Even when they are highly stylized.

I would like to see more lordly clothes for light armors, and especially a vampire-themed set. But certainly something more elegant, simple and/ or majestic. Not overburdened with unnecessary accessories and straps.

As far as pure PVE efficiency goes, Proxy is unarguably right about Zerk gear > all else. Simply put, once you have mastered the dodge mechanic and are at least “good” with it, the all Zerk gear is the best possible option for the overwhelming majority of PvE content.

However, (there’s always a “however” lol) … however, it has been my experience in both WvW and PvP that no one is as terribly bad a player in those venues, as the dedicated PvE “zerk” player. On average they have far less knowledge of their full catalogue of weapon sets than others, less knowledge of their skills and utilities and a very one-dimensional approach that makes them easy kills and a burden to your group.

Of course I am speaking in generalities, and there are many PvE zerkers that transition flawlessly to WvW and PvP. But exceptions they are, because the majority of the COF1 speedrun teenagers are incredibly lame players when facing actual human beings.

The dominance of zerker gear is not the fault of the players, but of this game’s balance and design. It’s a direct consequence of GW2’s innovative “party-roles-shouldn’t-matter” battle design.

Did warrior get buffed for running away?

in Warrior

Posted by: TheGuy.3568

TheGuy.3568

Simple answer is no no buffs to mobility. Warrior can not out run a thief unless they run S/X in both weapon sets.

For any warrior who think they are the ultra mobile elite.a a good thief will have shadowstep and bow or dagger. Factually if a thief just want to keep up with you its entirely possible because they have the gap closing mobility to do it no matter your set. There is no way around it. If you ran fro ma thief and got OOC the thief either blew their cool downs and you didn’t or they simply sucked.

While Warriors need Sword and GS with perma swiftness to outrun a thief, they can very much do so.

Sigh..

Bull’s Charge = 900 Rush 1,200 Savage Leap = 900 Whirlwind Attack =450

Total distance = 3,450
Total application time = 4 seconds

Shadowstep = 1.200 steal = 900 Infiltrator’s Arrow x 2= 1,800

Total distance = 3,900
Total activation time = Anywhere from 1 second to to 3 seconds Fast cast ground target could theoretically make it nearly instantaneous.

This is all assuming the thief doesn’t have any initiative traits. If he has base of 15 instead of 12 then you can get a Infiltrator’s Strike or a Heartseeker for an extra 600 or 450 range respectively. Even then at base iniative rechange of 1.33 seconds per point you could still get either one of these moves off in the time it takes for the warrior to complete his running way combo. CD reduction on warrior skills on GS would not effect the sprint portion of catching up.

Also note this does not factor in Infiltrator’s Signet, Roll for Initiative, Withdraw, and Scorpion Wire Wire acting as additional movement skills and gap closers. And does not factor in the use of Sprint for warrior.

Imo, a player using a skill should appear from stealth, did it hit or not.

It’s kinda stupid that the game helps them to land the hits from stealth as well as thieves being able to spam shortbow jump to somewhere while stealthed all the way. And I don’t think this would nerf stealth too much, it would still be a powerful tool.

I’m a bit tired of thieves using the “learn to play” argument when you complain about their undetectable 8k damage back stabs. They tell us “well, you should block it or dodge roll when you expect to get hit!” only to actually block it but get hit anyways because they can just spam number 1 on your shield until it goes down.

Blocking an attack from an invisible thief, mesmer, or any other class needs to reveal the attacker. I’m not sure why this isn’t like this to begin with.

Ranged vs Melee balance

When ever you start an debate about MMO mechanics with “In real life..” you’re on the wrong track.

Reducsing long range accuracy and creating forced misses is going to lower the over all dps of ranged weapons even more. Misses combined with dodges in blocks could mean you could go with out doing damage for an extended period of time. It would also be an incredably frustrating mechanic.

No one is using a sniper rifile in GW2, no one is even using a scoped weapon. Having a close range dead zone would create incredable class inbalances and any time a gap closer was used it would force the ranged user to switch to a melee weapon. This is helping ranged balance how?

Adding ammunition only adds tedium. No one actually runs out, it just takes up space. This also doesn’t add balance at all. It only adds an extra requirement for using the ranged weapon at all, not balancing it while it is being used.

Stuning boss every time he is telegraphing his special attack would make boss fights trivial. Not a good idea.

You’re right, if that’s what this degenerates into. But there’s no reason for that. Having attacks that you should interrupt isn’t the same as every battle being about interrupting the one big windup.

Exactemundo. Let’s take WoW here prepare for flamewars. You can say what you want about WoW, but they have a lot of brilliant encounters in the game. There you NEED to interrupt things otherwise you will wipe. The boss won’t get trivial if it still has other mechanics that require dodging etc. etc. But there are so many instances in other MMO’s where you NEED to interrupt/stun/silence/dispell whatever the boss is throwing at you in order to survive. It would actually give ‘CCers’ some meaning, because there is no ‘CC’ role, because you can’t CC.

Defiant needs to be reworked, perhaps it doesn’t work for all bosses, but most definately with most of them, Mai Trin being a good example imo.

Extremely well written analysis, Proxy. Kudos.

Pretty much full agreement for everything you’ve said. Defiant must die for PvE to thrive, and the more variation and improvement the better.

If I may expand on two things in this thread, I definitely agree about the added variation in creatures, and there’s a way to manage it that already exists within the game: the Tar Elemental. This brilliantly designed blob has a nifty feature that causes it to pulse AoE damage when affected by burning. The exact same tech could be applied to many different mobs. A skittish creature might be extremely vulnerable to fear (enhanced duration) but gain evasion while fleeing, thus causing fear to be a powerful way to shut down single targets in the fight. A massive machine might be unshakable, but forced movement effects break off parts and reduce its armor. A high toughness/low vitality character could be virtually immune to direct damage, but shares the pain of its conditions with its foes. Emergent mechanics that use the core conditions and effects and expands upon them will allow endless enemy variety without sacrificing the elegant simplicity of the current system.

As for interruption and the possibility of stunlocking, that is also pretty easily dealt with by improving how bosses activate their attacks. For instance…

-During pulse attacks, each pulse would have to be interrupted individually.
-Interrupting a homing projectile attack could cause it to misfire and hit a random location.
-A charge up move would be cut off by interruption, making the attack weaker.
-Frustration could build in certain monsters the longer they went without hurting anyone (kiting or interruption). After a certain amount of stacks, they become Enraged for a short time, moving and attacking faster with immunity to control conditions.
-Interrupting certain moves may cause them to hurt friend and foe alike when they fire.
-Some monsters may be made of multiple body parts rendered as individual creatures (multiheaded hydra, for instance). Control effects only apply to the individual part.

Etc. There are plenty of clever ways to ensure that stunlocking is impossible without rendering control completely pointless. The more intelligent the foe’s design, the more interesting the fights will become.

Yesterday we had problems finding 2 random players for CoF, there were barely any people at entrance, we were shocked. If it’s not a sign GW2 population is seriously droping i don’t know what is.

I love the wild conclusions people draw on no evidence.
For one, its one instance.
Also, a lot of people don’t just idle on the map of the instance they want to run. gw2lfg is used while running around doing whatever else while forming, getting into a group. Why would I idle on a map waiting for people to come along and hope they have room when I can other things and use gw2lfg?

i wish mobs could have skills more similar to ours, like in gw1, and some trash mobs in dungeon have less hp, they not only rewards nothing but takes for ever to kill, if they were reasonably killable , i think less people would skip (sometimes skipping it’s just dangerous and waste more time skipping badly than killing easily).

can you really imagine in arah path 3 killing all those spiders? seriously? and that is already the shortest path despite being so long…

Everything ANet said in the Manifesto was spot on what I wanted to see in an MMO, but they seem to have gone the opposite direction on some of it.

That’s true, but you have to understand the reason behind that. ArenaNet’s goal was what they described in the Manifesto – to make a MMO for people who don’t like MMOs. They failed. Like every other big MMO, as soon as GW2 was released it was filled with MMO locusts looking for a clone of every other MMORPG they have ever played. These players filled this forum with complaint after complaint asking for the same flawed content seen in the other MMOs, driving those who were hoping GW2 would be different away (and, truth be said, GW2 did already have many flaws seen in other MMOs by release).

When the MMO locusts began to leave (which they always do), ArenaNet panicked and rushed to add Fractals of the Mist and Ascended gear, something the company itself described as poorly implemented. This cemented GW2’s change, from a MMO for those who don’t like MMOs to just one more game trying to compete with all the other clones out there.

This change is in large part due to ArenaNet’s bad design decisions with GW2, but it’s in larger part due to the community of farmers, grinders, addicts and exploiters who jump from MMO to MMO and who (for now) call GW2 their home (until the next big MMO is released).

“I think that players are starting to mature past the point of wanting to be on that
treadmill, of being in that obvious pattern of every time I catch up you are going to
put another carrot in front of me” – Mike O’Brien right before Ascended weapons
