Can Flamethrower be Viable Post-Patch?

in Engineer

Posted by: nakoda.4213

nakoda.4213

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for using a variety of builds but grenade kit by far surpasses anything you want to do with flamethrower kit.

like what?

top end dmg? No one has ever disputed that.

but the Ft is superior at point control and damage mitigation. the best grenades have is a chill. you need other traits to add CC, reducing the room you have for cc removal.

ft has ft 3, 5, and is often paired with a rifle for rifle 2, and 4. add in a net turret and you have even more cc.

PLEASE, everyone, STOP trying to compare the two specs as if they were supposed to be the same. they are not. they are for different ways of playing. mace guardians do not complain about having less over all dmg than other guardians, but they bring different things to the table.

same thing for ft vs nades.

nades = high dps, some control.
ft = high control, some dps.

why is this so difficult for everyone?

Boundaries are for the effortless.

Week of profession

Hi Devs, Community,

I was wondering if introducing “Week of XYZ profession” could brind some good to interaction between players who report important bugs and mechanic issuses in character classes and Devs.

“Week” is an example, it can be 2 weeks or a month.
This way after declaring “This is a month of a Ranger”, 90% of Dev manpower (who work on professions of course) will concentrate on fixind and improving Ranger class and will spend a lot of time communicating with community, presenting changes, discussing about our suggestions and talking about their ideas of future changes.

It could work with WvW, SPvP, dungeons, events, bosses (I hope).

Getting control over Kit Refinement

in Engineer

Posted by: gimmethegepgun.1284

gimmethegepgun.1284

I think Kit Refinement would be a lot better if it changed the alternate skill of the kit (which currently is always stow kit) to the kit refinement ability. Then, you can choose when to activate it, instead of unintentionally activating it when you don’t want it.
It would even make the global cooldown not be THAT bad since at least you could reasonably control whether or not it would be available.

Of course, some people would have to get used to using weapon swap to drop the kit instead of using a custom keybind, but it’s a small price to pay.

For one moment let’s pretend the trait HGH did not exist and might stacking runes did not exist, maybe even grenade kit. Wat do.

I feel like the engineer can’t do any amount of damage without HGH or grenade kit.

When I read posts like this and people think the Grenade Kit is all we have, it makes me sad.

Yes, in sPvP, players have access to all pets.

However, there is also WvW, another form of PvP.

Recent posts have ANet mentioning they are thinking of WvW as a form of end-game content.

Much earlier posts by ANet had mentioned that HoM rewards would not give in-game advantages to players.

Ever since Rangers were no longer allowed to take 2 pets of the exact same type, having access to the HoM pet rewards has been an in-game advantage.

Those without the Black Moa cannot have 2 Moa pets with a Daze.
Those without the Rainbow Jellyfish cannot have 2 Jellyfish pets with a Chill.
Those without the White Raven cannot have 2 Birds pets with that great burst damage.
Those without the Black Widow cannot have 2 Spider pets with a stun.

These are in-game advantages for Rangers with the appropriate number of HoM points when we were told people would not have in-game advantages from HoM points.

I want one elite from every school of ability (for example on my ele, an arcane elite, a signet elite and a cantrip elite)

There should at least be one elite for each build, and then have a shorter cd more buildcentric elites from the same schools like gw1.

More skills!!

I’ve honestly run out of patience with this game now, Rangers were promised fixes months ago after it was admitted that we have many glaring problems with our class that make us “sub par” and “lackluster”. We have had absolutely nothing since then, no fixes, not even a response or acknowledgement from ANet about anything ranger related.

- Over 50% of our weapon choices and skills are useless, mediocre or bugged.
- Same goes for our trait lines but make that percentage about 70%
- Yes we can achieve good DPS with a pet but when everything in dungeons kills them in 2 hits we are basically guaranteed to have low DPS and low support (useless skills). Don’t tell me I have to trait for the pet or manage it better, if I’m stuck with a pet it kitten well better be useful (even untraited) if I have no choice other than use it or lose half my DPS. How can you not address this? It’s been too long, it is a core component of the ranger???

What I’m asking for is at least an acknowledgement to these problems or some kind of time-frame with how long this will take to fix if it ever will be. Myself, and the rest of the ranger community, are tired of waiting, tired of hearing NOTHING about our completely broken class, and I for one would appreciate knowing whether or not I am wasting my time playing my ranger if it will never be fixed. It has been 6 months…… at least tell us something.

Ranger update

@ Verdelet: you are showing us achievements that can be managed by investing time in a character, nothing more, nothing less. You have lost 2 out of 3 tournaments you played, and lost 1 out of 2 tPvP matches you played. Now, to be entirely clear, I’m not saying you are not playing your ranger correctly, or that I would have done a better job. I’m saying these screenshots only show you’ve played your ranger a lot, and that your contribution may not have benefited the teams you joined to the extent that you appear to be advocating.

More particularly, your screenshots do not address the issue that Jon Peters promised said would be fixed: (i) shouts and signets being “subpar” and “lackluster”, (ii) trait lines which lack viable choices, and (iii) skills that are too specialized to complement a weapon build. All of these are Jon’s words. If a dev states this, not recently but 5 months ago, this means there is a BIG problem. There is no point in talking this right. And not because I said it, but because the developer himself has said these are problems deeply rooted in the ranger class.

But congratz on those 2 legendaries!

A Daily Guide

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Incendirax.3567

Incendirax.3567

Good evening, afternoon and what ever time you may be reading this at. This is just a little helping hand to those who are having trouble doing their dailies in limited time. Personally, I am a very casual player, but I will come on for about 20 to 40 minutes a day to get my dailies done because I am not adverse to the “chore” feel to it that everyone is complaining about. I have thus posted this to help anyone with time constraints, and please not let this turn into a daily discussion thread; we have enough of those already!

Disclaimer: I do not claim to be superior to anyone reading this thread, and I apologise if I make any blank statements, though I will try to keep these to a minimum.

Following are the ways i do the daily requirements quickly. I will assume that you have at least one 80 at your disposal and have the money to WP, or serveral that you can keep stationed around tha place (which is what I do). I would reccomend using the Gw2 interactive map (search in google) if you are confused about where I mean.
1. Daily kills – I would reccomend waypointing to anywhere near a centaur camp in Kryta, as the mobs are easy to kill and respawn very rapidly. See Kessex Hills, Gerrandan Fields and Harathi Hinterlands.
2. Daily Gathering – My favourite spot is just north-west of Thistlereed Waypoint in Timberline falls. If you follow the hill up, you will see a Veteran Jotun guarding a cauliflower patch. Kill him, and harvest the cauliflowers. Then jump off the cliff into the water (dw this is obvious when you are there). Turn around, and swim into the cave (these is a large opening underwater). You will find a Rich Mithril Vein. If this is not yet 20 gatherings, these are 2 mitrhil nodes at about 5 seconds swin, and sometimes a gold node right infront of the cave.
3. Veteran Daily kills – I would reccomend porting to Irondock Shipyard waypoint in Plains of Ashford. Make your way west and you should come across a cave on your left. Inside, there are 4 to 5 veteran Sparks or Skelks than respawn very quickly, and they should be easy to kill for any moderately geared level 80 as they are only level 12 from memory.
4. Daily dodges – Some of the easiest attacks in the game to dodge are those of the basic Ice Elementals, as they are slow moving and easy to see projectiles. I would reccomend teleporting to somewhere like Wide Expanse waypoint in Dredgehaunt cliffs, and there are about 5 elementals directly south, as well as some jotun to the west.
5. Daily kill variety – this is the only one I can’t be much help for, but the starter zones (such as Plains of Ashford, Queensdale, and my particular favourite Caledon forest) seem to have the largest variety within the individual zone.
6. Aquatic Kills – teleport of Grawlenfjord waypoint in Wayfarer Foothills, and make your way north to the water. There are about 15 white fish (which count) that you can kill easily and some level 3 skelk to the south by the entrance to the cave in which a skillpoint can be found. This can also be done in the same place as daily veteran kills as above.
7. Daily healer – Just north of Nebo Terrace Waypoint in Gerrandan Fields, where a tonne of Human soldiers are lying there, just waiting for a kind soul to come along and rez them. Be warned , a lot of people know this, so be prepared to use swiftness to get from body to body!
8. Daily events – the best place for this is again north of Nebo Terrance Waypoint in Gerrandan Fields, but a lot of 80’s are doing this so it can be difficult to tag. Cursed shore is still a great option, as are the southern areas in Dredgehaunt Cliffs.
9. Daily crafter – just port to your Borderlands in WvW, and even if you dont have a 400 crafting profession, learn one refine some raw materials that you are sure to have hanging around. Raw materials are never part of recipies, only the refined versions, so what you are really doing is clearing space in your materials tab!
10. Laurel vendor – well…. What can i say? Teleport to the nearest city and run to the vendor; nothng could be easier!

And there you have it; a way to get dailies done in limited time. I am open to suggesttions and will update this if i get a chance. I apologise for spelling errors!

IRL has a much, much bigger gem store, player housing, tech stuff like Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle to back up its dynamic events, more pixels and shaders, an essentially infinite number of audio channels, cold beers and warm girls (and boys). It has a sub though, I’m missing some basic options and a character select screen. Also, the cashgrind feels much longer, possibilities for respeccing are extremely deep but very time consuming and there’s no attaching yummy cake to emails – yet.

I sense a cautionary tale in all this, for any community managers present or future who would care to pay attention…

An enormous, in-depth thread about problems with negatively-adjusted drop rates erupts on your forums.

You remain silent for far too long, then scrub the thread, replacing it with a request for information that has existed in the removed thread for months.

More time passes, before you then declare the following:
“Just wanted to give a quick update on this topic. We’ve completed verifying every update from the november release, and there were zero changes to anything what so ever that would have negatively affected loot in any way/shape/form. We can officially confirm this as an X-files level conspiracy at this point.”

Then you let the population that care enough to rally around the topic stew awhiles longer, allowing ample time for the thoughtless and callous to sling derision at the ‘conspiracy nuts’, until finally closing the thread with a post about how it was all actually quite true, and will be patched up in a matter of a week or so…

No apology, nor admission of responsibility for the realities of the issues that were causing such dissent and division in your community.

Trapper ranger overpowered

Abrun.2734

#1… i play ranger so this may be bias.. but its not very hard to run off a trap when you spring it… once you leave the range for the trap it those conditions well disappear after 1 second… so if you are a ranged class you have an advantage over the ranger in that he can’t use his traps effectively… however on melee.. u gotta find a way to keep us locked down.. RANGERS HAVE 0 STABILITY (Unless u run Rampage as one)! so you wanna nerf our condition dmg and leave us defenseless? kinda stupid if you ask me.. i think ppl should research a class more before they QQ about it..

i’d like info thats is niche and hard to find, with visual explanations. Like woodenpotatos videos on the various consumables (that you’d need hours to find and test reading the wiki) or lore (that requires a deep knowledge of the world, gw1, and flavour npc dialog that no one reads)

I dont really care about seeing some random guy play, or talk about HIS opinions on builds/balance without backing up with facts.

So You Gutted GS and Spirits

in Ranger

Posted by: Relair.1843

Relair.1843

While buffs to GS would be nice, maybe its meant to be more of a power weapon? I know it does have a bleed skill but every weapon can’t have everything. If that was the case let’s get some bleeds on longbow too The spirits definitely need a huge boost in hp/toughness, and why not give them some minor damage pulse within their radius of effect. Either that or make them immune to damage because as you said, the times when you’d actually need them, ie dungeons, champions, boss fights and wvw zergs, they implode if anything so much as glances in their general direction. That’s a problem with all summons except full BM ranger pets though, I sincerely wish anet would give spirits, spirit weapons, necro minions, thieves guild, turrets, etc some kind of blanket aoe damage reduction, as it is they are all utterly useless in almost any situation except casual soloing and 1v1 fights. Core, class defining abilities shouldn’t turn to worthless garbage when the going gets tough, that’s when they should shine.

I find it very difficult to avoid instant pet death vs bosses like kohler because they respond so slowly after you recall them. there’s at least a 2 second delay before they even start, and then they take the dumbest possible route and get pwned.

I vote that pets teleport back to you when you recall them. i’m tired of my pets being dead 24/7 because i have such little control.

I have to say I think making the WvW maps part of the world map completion was a mistake. I love the game but I have no interest in the WvW part but attempting to complete the world map is incredibly irritating whilst continually being attacked by other players. Surely there could be something introduced to highlight a players is simply in the region for map completion purposes and not to join in the general battling.
