Disabled off-hand weapon with 2H weapon

The fact that you can’t wear a disabled off-hand with a 2H weapon is quite annoying when it comes to the setup of your invetory. As a thief, I like to swap between some amount of weapons, including the shortbow. The problem is now, that when I go from shortbow to dagger+dagger for example, it leaves a spot open, and a drop will fill it. Later, when I want to equip my shortbow again, my dagger will be in the middle of my drops. I always have to place it back to where my weapons belong in my inventory, and it annoys me quite a bit, and I think I’m not the only one.
I’m here with the suggestion to make it how it was on GW1. Let us equip a dagger with a shortbow for example, but have the dagger disabled (in the off-hand spot). All your weapons in your inventory will remain in place (a certain amount of slots), and nothing else will really change.
I think we should be encouraged to use more weapons sets than we can handle and this change would support it.

End-Game Content (Time Gap)

Before all the fanboys get themselves all tied up in a not; let me first start off by saying disregard all the non-sense talk about how it takes time to develop content. We all know it takes time to develop content; what I want to talk about is poor business decisions and planning.

The fact is they knew they had competitors releasing games late spring and early summer. I find it incredibly unlikely they thought they could ride the tails of the feature patch while those new competing games are offering fresh new content; but hey maybe they didn’t. So yes they have been releasing patches, but it hasn’t been exciting new content. Its been “filler recycled content” basically uninteresting, hence the reason for massive player decline due to other games being released. I’ve been an avid player since pre-launch and the last 3.5 to 4months there has been easily a 35-40% decline in players. Besides feature patch day which saw an influx of about 30% but then it dropped again about 24hrs later.

So we’re approaching my point. Why would they make such a poor business decision to not offer new fresh exciting content for 3.5-4months? Maybe they’re short staffed or maybe as I said above they need time; or more likely they just don’t have the resources. This brings me to my next point, that being planning. They knew for far longer than 4 months which is what they say is there developing lead time to produce content. They knew for far longer what they were working on, I’m willing to bet a lot of what we are seeing now has been worked on for over a year. Granted they told us a few weeks prior to this late sping early summer content dip; but why?

Gamers have 10sec attention spans. To leave their game with little to no new content besides a few festivals and whatnot most of us have left to new and better things. Another point I’d like to make is they think that hey, our game is free they’ll comeback. Wrong, it takes way more resources to get a gamer back once they have left. Meaning they have to produce absolutely incredible new content to get even a fraction of those players back in the game.

After almost two years I’d like to see new dungeons, new zones, new fractal levels and difficulties, new races, new classes, new weapons, and the list goes on etc… etc… I doubt this will happen. Im guessing when july 1st rolls around starting Season 2 LS were going to get pushed into one of the low-level jungle area maps; do some zerg-fest achievement fests; but hey its permanent now since they’re implementing a LS tab in the hero panel.

My predictions are maybe a new map, maybe one dungeon, a few fractal level difficulties, possibly a race, one already existing weapon for each class. I predict all this to happen near or at the end of season 2. All of this equals sad to see the game die when it could have been great

Source for this info? because according to anet they are ridding the prosperity wave right now with an incredible player base after only being out for one year.
“If you look at any game ever made, a year after release, sales are always dropping – that’s just very normal,” responded Colin Johanson. "

The game has been out 2 years August, not one year. I don’t know what game you’re playing, but most of the game is dead. What you’re experiencing is the result of the megaserver changes resulting in de-facto server merges without having to actual physically merge them.

Also your post is quoting anet almost a year ago. So this info is so way outdated it’s not even funny. Your post also proves my point they haven’t added much of any new content. Features don’t qualify as playable content. What good are features without stuff to do??

“… but we absolutely are going to do sweeping new features that you would traditionally only get in expansions – large regions, content and progression additions to your characters in the form of growth and professions and races. Those are all things that you will see in the lifespan of Guild Wars 2.”

This stuff aint coming out any time soon guaranteed. If it does pigs will fly out of my butt. Large Regions is coming out more than likely a year out form now which is going to be the 3 year mark.

Chances of a new race on July 1st are going to be a period (.) followed by several zeroes (0), followed by a one (1), finishing with a percent sign (%).

It will look something like this: .000000001%

So the chances of a new race are equal to the drop rate of a precurser? hmmm interesting :P

A new race would be something huge, something they’d be hyping long before it would happen.

If we end up getting a new race during the LS, the way I see it working would be at the end of a season instead of at the beggining. For example, using the Tengu since they’re the race I’d like to see next as playable, imagine the big finale of a LS being the Tengu opening the gates of the dominion of the winds and becoming a playable race, followed by a 2 or so Lkittenus like this year’s one, which would be perfect for whoever creates a new Tengu to level up before beggining of next LS season.

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

Hello, I come to the general discussion thread in hopes that more people might participate in an open discussion regarding development focus as a whole in regards to Guild Wars 2.

This is an open discussion with the community, please try to keep all posts constructive.

Since it’s release about two years ago Guild Wars 2 has seen great success, even achieving a massively successful launch in China! The game was recently revisited by a gaming website and re-reviewed the game, giving it a 9/10 points. (http://www.polygon.com/2013/1/24/3728326/guild-wars-2-review-second-coming)

I have nothing but love for this game, but there’s one area in particular that I have always felt alienated in compared to the other parts of the game, and I’m referring to World vs. World vs. World.

The developers have divided Guild Wars 2 into three parts:

Player vs. Environment or PvE.
Player vs. Player or PvP.
World vs. World vs. World or WvW.

Now each area has seen content added in the last 2 years, but I think it’s an honest assessment to say that WvW has not seen nearly the amount of development that the other two areas of the game have received.

I understand and agree that PvE should be the focus of development, it’s what Guild Wars 2 was made for, and they are doing a great job with the recent content! The Developers listened to the community, and continue to do a great job adjusting to what players are suggesting.

PvP has recently received a lot of attention and received lot’s of love from the development team. They listened to the community, changed the wardrobe system and added a fun and unique way to gain gear and tokens through PvP alone. (I wish I could get dungeon tokens from doing WvW!)

Now let’s look at WvW, what was promised was a map were “new” things would be tested, were the development team could try out new ideas, and perhaps tweak the way current WvW is played.

What we ended up with is something that feels more like PvE mode in WvW. The map is fun, but it’s not WvW, I’ve yet to defend an objective or have a large open field fight and it has no merit on the rest of WvW. The community has sated their opinions, maybe not in the most respectful way, but they’ve stated them.

We had a Collaborated Development thread 6 months ago, players voiced issues and came up with some really great ideas to fix them but nothing ever came of it. Not one change suggested has been made to WvW that was suggested.

It’s been over a year since WvW received it’s “Collaborated Development” thread, and I still continued to feel alienated. The community wants content, we want change. We want the developers to tell us “It will be okay, we are working on changes.” But all we receive week in and week out is very little, and that really hurts.

Where do you think development should be focused next?

More PvE content? (excluding the living story content)
More PvP content? (More maps, more tournaments)
More WvW content? (Listen to the community)

Cavendish, I think I might have an answer for that…
- Changes to instanced PvE have been minimal
- Changes to WvW have been minimal
- Changed to SPvP have been minimal

So where did all the resources go?
1) WildStar
2) Living Story
3) Making gem store items

4) China

In my opinion WvW lacks rewards for defending structures and fighting enemy players. Attacking and defending stategies are getting poorer, because attacking unprotected structures is more benificial.
The problem is the loot you get for capturing empty structures. You didn’t fight any enemy, but you get loot from veterans and champions which is equal or even more benificial than fighting enemy players.
Therefore whole servers are mobilizing a lot of players to play on times they know the enemy has few players. They run in a huge blob and flip structures on every map. This is widely known as PvD (player versus door), because there is hardly any enemy player they fight against and even if the 2-3 defenders should be able to destroy the siege of the attacking crowd, the attackers autoattack the door down, because they are so many. In EOTM this behavior is even worse. It became standard to capture structures in rotation.

In my opinion the rewards for capturing structures with high numbers of players are too high because of the lootbags and levels the NPCs give. Also the attacking event gives more benefits than defending.

My suggestions to improve the benefit for defending and fighting enemy players:

  1. No loot from NPCs or limit the lootbags from NPCs in WvW according to their rank – For example 10 player get lootbags for veterans and 20 player get loot from champions. This way there is less loot in huge blobs and the same loot for small groups.
  2. Better balance the rewards for events in WvW – at the moment capturing a structure gives too much compared to defending a structure, killing or protecting dolyaks.
  3. Give less rewards per player the more players participate in an event – cut down the rewards of blobbing and improve the status of smaller groups.
  4. Do not allow lowlevels in WvW – they cannot even use all their skills and the upscaling of numbers doesn’t help, because they have white/green/blue armor and the least you should have is exotic armor.
  5. Make up a seperate WvW daily – this improves the motivation to go into WvW and equals the lack of rewards the players get because of the reward scaling of events. Also add tomes of knowledge to these daily rewards because leveling in WvW is not possible anymore.
  6. Increase the loot from player kills – because world vs world massively lacks loot compared to other gamemodes, loot should be increased for killing enemies. Especially badges should only be given for killing players, not npcs.

If you make it like this, blobbing up and turning in cricles would give less benefit than splitting up and run in smaller groups. Defending a structure would give you more rewards than capturing, because you will get at least one event while the attacker only gets one at most.

Some nice add-ons would be:

  • Connect the quality of the loot dropped by a dead enemy to the WvW-Level of the enemy – by this good players get more of a challenge.
I know high WvW level doesn’t necessarily mean high skill, but there is a good correlation between skill and experience.
  • Block waypoints on attacked structures for 20s (or the time it takes to make one shot with a trebouchet from max range) with overlapping timestamps – this way you also need scouts on structures with waypoints to stop the enemies from hitting doors.
  • Make it impossible to port to any waypoint while being within reach of a structure that is infight – make it harder for the defending/attacking crowd to get away once they see that they will loose the fight. This grants more lootbags when attacking a structure that is defended.

Benfits:

  • more search for fights because this is the only way to get loot
  • less rewards to play in low-activity times – no enemy, no loot
  • more rewards for the not so popular events like pushing/killing dolyaks, defending structures
  • new strategies needed to attack better defended structures – I like complex situations

Risks:

  • it might become even harder to capture structures against enemies with higher numbers
  • no loot, because the enemy runs away all the time or there is no enemy on the map in the times you play

I hope for a constructive discussion. Maybe some points could get more elaborate but I am convinced this would change the modus WvW to be more like a PvP modus than a PvE modus.

What an selfish, naive idea to completely ruin GW2.

OP, and anyone else actually agreeing with the suggestion to add a subscription fee to this game just to ‘remove’ diminishing returns, I seriously recommend you reflect on it far more than now.

Not only would it annul a rather large majority of players from the game from the subscription alone, but the economy as a whole would take a sharper dive than ESO on release.

Just saying. Your wishes seem out of line, because Anet won’t pick any class that is even in the slightest filled by other classes, that would just make this game cheap with a lot of ‘different’ classes that actually do the same thing as others, with a different skin.

I apologize ahead of time but I just couldn’t help myself. Feel free to slap me. >.>

-this is the kicker for me; there has been so little in terms of WvW growth outside of account-bound WXP and the Obsidian Sanctum arena.

You can’t even give them credit for these two things.

Devon Carver was ENORMOUSLY opposed to account-bound WXP when WXP first appeared. And the funny thing is that at the same time, things in PvE were shifting from soulbound to accountbound (gold, karma, if I recall correctly). Look how long it took for them to admit they were wrong!

And the Obsidian Sanctum exists only because of that dev who griefed the GvG and cause a MASSIVE uproar within the WvW community. Anet almost had no choice but to do something. Had that dev not done what he did, you can be pretty sure we wouldn’t have the Obsidian Sanctum today.

I for one wouldn’t do much communication with a community like this. For realz.

It isn’t the players fault that they are frustrated with WvW being neglected, with communication lines non existent. It’s all ANet’s doing.

So you’d be just like ANet? You would neglect WvW then when called out on it just stay silent?

Cool, we already get that here.

Actually, I’d rather it be something more than as simple as this. Quite frankly, I’m shocked we cant hotbar consumables like food already as well. Why not allow something like that just like the weapon sets from GW1? Sure, changing those weapon sets would require being OOC, but it’d allow me to carry multiple weapon sets, especially on my guardian.

For example, if it allowed 4 of the OOC swaps, you’d be able to carry up to 5 different land weapon combos:

  • The currently equipped weapon set will be a part of Swap 1. For classes that can rotate between set 1 and 2, doing so would change the set in the Swap (Staff/GS on guardian, it’d rotate the Staff or GS in the Swap).
  • Changing to Swap 2 would unequip the currently active weapon (GS to continue example), and change it out for the contents of Swap 2 (Sc/Sh), and now rotating sets would be Sc/Sh and Staff.
  • Changing to Swap 3 and 4 would do the same as the above point.

Would it ever be possible for these two classes to have a weapon swap available when they are not in combat? It gets inconvenient to have to always open the inventory to switch weapons.
I don’t see any downside to this as the feature will be disabled during any combat situations and should require a small cool-down when combat is over before being able to swap.

I dont consider myself to have quit. I still log in daily but for all of ten minutes to do the daily craft and daily home node gather, I join the guild for about an hour over the weekend for the guild missions and im usually around for the first 1-2 days of the LS.

I dont feel anything for the game, I hate the direction ANET are taking it in, I think its mindless and one-dimentional and hasnt achieved anywhere near its potential and never will. But its free to log in and play so I exercise that right. I wont be giving any financial help to ANET until major changes are made to the AI, the reward structure and a huge improvement in immersion. But im still logging in.

Why bother I hear you ask? Why not just quit? Well ive been waiting 12+ months for the game to live up to its potential so I guess you could say im still hoping.
