"Leaked" Engie Spec

I know saying this on a engineer forum is a sacrilege but, don’t you feel engineer is very restricted by kits?

The class is really built around the kits and an overall flexibility. Also the engie was designed to be played just outside melee range. With those two original design concepts in mind, our weapons are much more utility-ish feeling to better fit with kits. The combo of weapon+kits gives this ‘reverse ele’ set up; where eles have loads of skills coming from the weapon & attunements but fixed utilities, engie has a single fixed weapon choice and then loads of skills coming from the kits. As an added bonus there are very short (1s) weapon swap for kit dropping where as most other classes have 9s weapon swaps. Even if kits aren’t used engie still gets ‘two utilities’ per slot in a way due to the toolbelt.

In a way its kinda funny that the mechanic that gives us access to the most skills and in a very fluid/flexible way is one of the most complained about as restrictive to the class.

The end of game should be a quick montage of each of your winning team members doing a skill with their equipped weapon to slay the enemy team. All scripted of course, briefly, about 1.5 seconds each. Slight slow motion. Kinda like Tekken 7’s new feature:

Example: A hammer warrior will do hammer5 on the enemy, at a particular close up angle, then it will cut to the next player on the winning team, say, a necro finishing off an enemy with gravedigger at a different camera angle.

Anyone without a weapon equipped (and somehow managed to win) will do a stomp finisher.

Well,we must be honest with criticism, they left us with 2 useless weapon for 2 years, that’s right, and no one can remotely defend anet on this , and no one can say anything to the enraging peoples inside the engineer community.
But the last patch didn’t change anything for anyone in the end.
Don’t let your eyes go blind after you see rifle+warrior in the patch notes, cause they did nothing extreme on it,as on the all other classes in the patch notes.

I apologize for my english.

Parts of the Illustrious skins look kind of nice – the very ornate detailing can be an interesting substitute for a plainer piece in an ensemble. I’m not at all interested in a whole Illustrious armor set on any character though.

The leg medium looks enough like the humble Arah dungeon token set that I frequently get confused by very old NPCs wearing the latter.

The legendary armor has countless threads on this forums, reddit, map chat discussions, Discord discussions about how much of a disappointment it is.

A large portion of the community vocalised that they are sick of trench coats / puffy skirt outfits and we get one as legendary armor.

This troll attempt is not funny, and the constant ignoring / merging / unrecognition from the team is truly disappointing – most, if not all, people I raid with have transmutated their legendary armor.

Yet, I come across Light wearers and they can’t get enough of their legendary armor – synergised dye nodes, perfect transformation, no bs.

Wanted to spark a bit of QQ.
Nothing else to add really, Brazil did a good video regarding legendary armor.
The whole “silhouette” argument is a joke when you have outfits.
Nothing but excuses to validate Anets poor choices when it comes to medium armor.
Got the chest piece to see for myself and wow….what a letdown, my slyvari has a bra for some reason will be transmuting that crap.

Heavy looks pretty cool tho!

First thing i’d do, is replacing the hip shot animation with that of the Warrior auto attack. The Hip shot looks a bit silly.

IMO, the biggest issue is that every kit has 2 or 3 useful skills, while the rest is thrash, fix those and we should be golden,

also, i wouldn’t mind having as sharpshooter esque class, where specialized ammo can be used to swap out your basic rifle/pistol skills with more specialized ones.

Engineer new PvP meta

… I am tired of condi meta, it’s been there since the bunker one ended (necros, ahem) but it’s ok.
I want to know, what seems to be working on the engi right now?

Dude, where have you been since the beginning of HoT? How have you not heard of the keyboard mash scrapper build? It’s probably going to bore you more than the condi meta, but it’s a nice change for a time if all you’ve done was a condi meta, one which only recently came around since the flamethrower change last season.

The build I’m talking about is the same one the previous poster mentioned, except it’s entirely possible to bunksustain at mid and contribute greatly to teamfights due to either amazing heals (if wearing menders amulet) or just not dying and doing some pretty sustained damage. While you should make changes to the build depending on the team comps, it’s going to end up being the same playstyle for the most part.

Marvin tried replacing the role of an elementalist in the Unity tournament and we all saw how well that worked. The meta right now is pretty strict, and the simple fact of the matter is that the engineer doesn’t particularly shine in team fights right now outside of being a res bot.

Leave it to the tempest on your team, stick to the side points, and try and pull 1v2s in your favor. I don’t think it’s particularly bad advice to help in team fights whenever possible, but we are one of the better duelists at the moment and are capable of forcing their power roles out of team fights and relieve pressure off home/mid by frequently contesting if not absolutely pestering far.

It’s this type of play that won Zan the EU tournament, and I think he’s pretty much the model to follow right now unless someone else does something remarkable in the monthly ATs to come. Just do whatever you can to decap far without dying in the process. Throughout season five I went through 5-6 matches in a row without dying once, using super speed and the stealth gyro to re-position myself as needed. While I know a lot of time has passed since then, and we’re facing some different classes in season seven, not much has really changed regarding how the class is played.

Explosives has been utter trash in PvP pretty much since the core specializations update. The adept tier has all of a kittenty fall damage trait, grenade-kit exclusive trait, and a tiny damage modifier with a bad health threshold attached. The GM tier has kittening thermobaric detonate which is still utter trash and a condition trait that no one will take because the actual good condi traits are in firearms (and taking both is suicide). The only good things the line has to offer are niche kit-specific traits, the e-sports rocket, and accelerant-packed turrets which has been made a lot worse by changes to turrets since the core specs update.

^ You hit the nail on the head. Firearms used (atleast in my opinion) to be the fifth wheel under the wagon before elite spec changes (still boring, but now there’s some must have traits there like IP and chemical rounds which allows pistols to see some action) but now explosives is the king of mediocre in pvp.

In a way i still don’t know if i am to laugh or to cry at the realization that they managed to make explosives boring. Hell they even managed to make orbital strike underwhelming and meh in my opinion.

When the sea rises and all the other classes are buffed and uplifted while we remain unchanged as the water inches higher and higher ready to put us under then were nerfed

This is true. If most classes were buffed, and mesmer and engineer were not, then mesmer and engineer were nerfed by omission.

Its a very strong condi weapon,

Not really. The conditions on auto are a joke, mostly due to never getting the same buffs that other condition applying skills got when they reworked conditions, the phantasm is power based and the only other damaging condition is a random short poison in Chaos field that also never got the condi buff.

It is a good defensive weapon but that is mostly thanks to skill 2. Chaos field has been left behind by the power creep and chaos armor has a too high cd even if the protection was baseline, not to mention the attack that got attached to it is pretty terrible.

Regarding Staff, Phase Retreat and Chaos Storm, mainly due to the pulsing AoE interrupt and combo field, are the only things that are keeping Staff viable in my opinion.

No one can afford to run the Chaos trait line in sPvP.

The damage and conditions applied by Winds of Chaos (staff 1) are underwhelming. Increasing the duration of the randomly applied Burning to from 1 to 2 seconds and, as Ori suggested, improving the speed of the projectile and cool down of the skill would help.

Chaos Armor is better than it used to be now that it has an initial AoE attack, but still not consistently useful. I agree the cool down (30 seconds for a 5 second duration) is too high.

Chaos Storm did not get the same treatment as thieves Choking Gas (yet), which was nerfed due to it’s AoE daze and ability to control downed state situations. The pulsing interrupt is the most useful thing about this skill and the fact that it is a combo field helps. The random 4 seconds of poison is good, but the 1 second of Chill is useless. I would like to see the cool down of this skill reduced and Chills duration increased to 2-3 seconds.

Changes to staff are very unlikely however, as it is probably the most used mesmer weapon in sPvP outside of main hand sword.

That just speaks to the one-dimensionality of PvE being a DPS-over-everything kind of mode. The only time I remember ever really using the shield in PvE was during the Queen’s Gauntlet.

There’s no sense in Holosmith being a power-oriented specialization when there is no off-hand to accompany it.

I am a (mostly) pve player and I find it quite one dimensional as it is designed: simply put, you always take the best dps option, and that’s never gonna be shield. Unless the spec deals a damage so low you can afford changing to shield for its utility/cc. Like chrono does, replacing offhand sword with focus.

Core engineer lacks a power offhand so, if we stick to that rule, it will never have a power main hand. More restrictions to a class with the least possibilities in weapons and combinations between them. Wouldn’t be better if they compensated this issue with a spec with good mechanics and skills?

What's the point of playing this game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: RandomWolf.3986

RandomWolf.3986

I’ve been playing this game since summer of 2015. I was really into it at first, but my interest slowly decreased until I fully stopped playing it for five months. Then I came back and… really, what’s the point?

This game finds a way to punish players every chance it gets. I’ve been giving competitive modes a shot, and it’s just… beyond broken. I’m not a fan of the meta. I strongly believe people have the right to play how they want and be original to come up with their own sort builds while corresponding to a role. That’s what I tried. And I got punished for it. Whether it’s PvP or WvW, none of my 22 characters is able to do anything. A lot of players in WvW hold a major advantage most. How in the world did this mode once attracted low-level characters? I feel useless in group fights and I can’t solo against any type of class unless the other player is utterly inexperienced. The same goes for PvE as well.

Let’s not forget about how grindy this game is. How disappointing its latest content has been. The story was one of the main reasons why I stuck around, but ever since HoT came out it’s been just getting worse where I’m literally cringing at the thought of it.

It also doesn’t help that I feel quite lonely in-game. I’ve been trying to find new people to play with and joined several types of guilds. People aren’t just interested in me whatsoever. I don’t consider myself to be a saint or an kitten; I try to be friendly and even help new players. What I get are people who end up using me for some of their own goals, including new players. I give them my support, tips and ask and they just end up ignoring me once I ceased to be useful to them. The community is not what it once was. It’s bad. The people are just cruel and moronic. I was even stalked and harassed by a player. I got proof of its actions and reported it several times. I even sent tickets to ANet and nothing happened. The player is still out there, making new accounts to reach me again and again.

All I want is to have fun, but this game feels like a frustrating chore where nothing feels rewarding whatsoever.

For instance, you haven’t considered that doing so would lead to paralysis by analysis. I mean, if Anet took every change they made, then looked at how it affected ALL the other classes, then made decisions to proceed if something wasn’t ideal, nothing would ever get changed.

When you put it that way, that’s like how Anet does things already.

It was stated a few times on livestreams in the past that they also take into consideration perfect-case scenarios, which include how a change affects and is affected by other classes.

It’s a plus and a minus, but they do it. In the case of Elixir X, Plague, and Plaguelands; it’s more likely to be an oversight – which happens. It’ll either be removed or left alone as a forever-intended effect.

Raids aren’t PvE.
Raids are a very “special” PvE nook.

Scrapper can be “special”, no doubt. But it doesn’t work well in most PvE areas.

The same benefits apply in five-man content – in fact, even more so, since five-man content doesn’t have enrage timers and the occasional DPS check like raids do. So it’s more viable to sacrifice max DPS in exchange for more survivability, whether for yourself or to throw function gyros to res downed allies.

Similarly, in open-world content when you’re not attached to a zerg, or in story instances, you might find yourself alone against stiff opposition, where a few more defensive skills might be the difference between living or dying.

Basically, apart from open world bosses and farming trains (where it really generally doesn’t matter what you bring), raids are probably the circumstance where scrapper is least useful.

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.

If warrior rifle is underperforming and got buffs, where are changes to ENGINEER rifle then? I haven’t seen that build under viable builds for PvP. Just becuse Marvin outskills his opponents and is using it on his stream doesn’t mean rifle doesn’t need love. Actually there was no love for engineer at all this patch :/.

I didn’t play engineer years; because at every patch, it was getting nerfed non-stop. I plan to return to game but I want to ask this.

I remember a time that engineers were not wanted in dungeons and raids in pve; because of the nerfs, the engineer was became useless and do low damage. For pvp, it was not so good comparing to other classes long time ago as I remember again. So, I was left the game long time ago.

Is it still fun to play engineer and how is engineer effective in pve and pvp in 2017 ?

The returned players like me can survive in current game or no point to come back to play guild wars 2 at all ?

I don’t think you are getting it. This isn’t about “crap” in terms of “items of low value”. This is about “items of no value”, as I can’t do anything with them (not sell them, not gift them, not even use them!) except destroy them. That is not the point of BLC drops.

Honestly, I think you are not getting it. You keep buying those lottery tickets, perfectly knowing that 33% of the content of those chests is worthless for you. Then you complain that 33% of the stuff you get is worthless. Even without your permanent bank access, those items would be useless at some point. I don’t know how often you use those bank accesses, but I can imagine that " about a hundred" of them would be enough for most players to last a year. Personally, I use one per month.

Now, to the point of Black Lion Chests. The point is not that you get shinies, the point is that you buy keys. If you play the lottery and none of your numbers match, you get nothing. That’s how lotteries work, you pay for the chance to get something, but in most cases, you get nothing, or nothing of value.

This is a huge loss for me and everyone else in my position.

Indeed, BLCs are a huge loss for everybody who uses them and a gain for ArenaNet. That is why they exist.

Hello,

I would like to post a complaint. I have had to delete about a hundred Bank Access Expresses in the past months, because I own a Permanent Bank Access Express, placed in a Shared Inventory Slot.

This is a huge loss for me and everyone else in my position.

Is there a way to program the game to recognize a permanent item of the type in shared inv slots and to then not drop those one-time-use equivalents for players who own the permanent version? I am seriously losing interest in opening BLCs because of the high chance of receiving 33% of trash that I have to can right away.

P.S. If at least those items were tradeable or could be sent to a friend instead of having to delete them…
