At the rate they fix/balance stuff, they’re very very lucky there aren’t any other comparable games out there. If there were, I would have left long ago.

It’s sad that we talk about balance changes and class updates in terms of years rather than weeks or months.

on wiki says it avoid CC… wich is totally lie since ive been interrupted and even KD quite some times while in midle of Renewed focus… wonder if some skills are bugging in some circunstances.

Likely a lag problem. If a person CC’ed you (on their screen) before you activated renewed focus (on their screen), it’s possible for you to get CC’ed when you think you’re safe.

yeah its strange, but it didnt felt like lag, i think theres some mechanics that gets borked up, since it didnt happened just one or two times, there must be some skill that is “overpassing” in some circunstances.

Just like sometimes we could clone ourselves with Wall of refflection as copy guardians, when mesmers used i think it was with a specter skill atackign our WoR.

Issues like this can be caused from simple latency differences too. A player with a lower latency than you has the upper hand in most circumstances. Even if you both hit your keys at the exact same instant IRL, their lower latency will cause their action to hit the server and be processed first. This results in some maesive desyncrinization on both ends as well. On your end you may not see their attack until after you defended, but on their end your defense didnt happen until after their attack went all the way through. Unfortunately these situations always work out better for those with lower latency… coincidentally, the same desync issue can benefit high latency players in PvE… atleast as long as they arn’t to high..

Please stop assuming I’m a guy… I am female.

with my sentence about the 9 peoples commenting,I meant to say “only 9 peoples commented”,so may be open a thread on reddit will work better, for visibility and for ammount of reply.

In any case,i feel is depressing to see our only power weapon for core engineer be in that state , after 2 years, untouched .

I mean, they touched the core weapon of every single class, every single class,to make some adjustment.
And of course….we are invisible untill we make a post of 1000 peoples commenting,or some youtuber with big visibily speaks of it,or someone is able to open a thread on reddit and gain enough reply.

This is painfully stupid, the balance should be spontaneus, especially in that case.

Also because , from what i see , there is no more “big” youtubers playing engi , no offense to any streamer , but i’m old school 4 years old (well since right after the beta) engineer main , and i lost track of all the major streamer that used to play this class, especially after HoT .

I apologize for my english.

Can we also mention that engineers lose all their legendary effects when they use a kit?

Can I just point out how kittening annoying that is? I’m working on Flameseeker Prophecies right now, and I don’t know if I’ll bother playing even when the expansion decides to come out. Too many longstanding issues that they’ve collectively shrugged their shoulders at.

Agreed. But it’s because kits are considered as bundles. Any player that picks up a bundle loses the effects of the equipped legendary, with a few exceptions of thrown projectiles. (Necromancer death/reapershroud for example, deathshroud will throw my incinerator blade, but reaper shroud loses my Twilight footfalls). Very inconsistent.

To work around engineers though, I’d much rather Fskills worked similar elementailists. Essentially I want them to swap the positions which might enable kits to have the ‘bundle’ status removed. For example, you select Grenade Barrage as utility slot 8, then gain the grenade kit on F3.

Kitten.

This is mostly due to the auto on main hand being horrible.

You’ve identified the real problem here. We could add to that that Poison Volley and Static Shot could probably also use buffs.

Despite your claim that they’re a closed package, mainhand and offhand pistol actually do have different themes:

Mainhand pistol is a standoff weapon. Since the grouping of Poison Dart Volley was tightened, every skill can be used to full effect at the pistol’s maximum range of 900 units.

Blowtorch makes offhand pistol a close-in weapon.

For completeness, shield is a defensive weapon which is designed to be useful regardless of whether you’re fighting at a distance or in close. If you’re at a distance, you can get a reflect from shield 4 and throw shield 5. If you’re fighting in close, you can use shield 4 as CC and shield 5 as a block with additional CC. (Come to think on it, shield 5 also acts as a block when ranged – the skill doesn’t end when you block a non-melee hit.)

MH and OH pistol interact together as a set that is mostly standoff, but which rewards getting in, letting off a blowtorch, and getting out again. (Or you could use a melee kit and switch back to pistols every so often.) If you want to stay at range indefinitely, shield is your better choice, but being a defensive weapon comes at a stiff cost in damage.

You can claim that MH and OH pistol is a package because engineer currently only has the pistol as a mainhand weapon, but that will change as soon as an elite specialisation for engineer comes out with a new mainhand option. When a mainhand melee weapon comes out, I expect everybody will be glad to be able to pair it with Blowtorch which is most effective at melee range, rather than pairing a melee weapon with Static Shot.

Now, it’s harder to imagine what an offhand ranged DPS weapon for engineer might be… but if one does come out, it would be better paired with a pistol that has the 900-range Static Shot over the 600-but-you-really-want-to-be-200 Blowtorch.

I can understand thinking that MH pistol is underpowered (shield, I’m not so sure about – the skills offer good defences and CC, but aren’t much help in the current meta), but I think ArenaNet is thinking towards the future with the current setup. Putting blowtorch on the MH would make it unavailable to future melee MHs, and would lock every future offhand to needing to work with a pistol that is expected to get in close every dozen seconds to let off a blowtorch. The weakness of MH pistol is better solved by buffing them to be competitive again, not switching them around and making the choice of OH one of deciding which of the options is less bad.

Why would you even want to play GW2 using nothing but a single weapon set ever for over 1,000 hours? I’ll never understand players who hate kits.

Why would you even want to play GW2 using nothing but a single set of utility skills for over 1,000 hours? Abandoning 12+ other utility skills? I’ll never understand players who exclusively use kits.

I’m not saying I refuse to use kits. I’m saying I’d rather not use exclusively kits. I think it defeats the purpose of choice in Gw2.

HOPE’s footfalls should also last longer. Maybe the design team has a reason for wanting to shorten the lingering footprints on the HoT legendaries, but they went too far imo. A little shorter, fine, almost unnoticeable due to the swift fade, less fine!

Nevermores footfalls could do with lasting a step or two more and being more feathery (they look more like splashes than floating feathers). Projectile could do with a unique sound too.

Same with Chuka, footfalls should last 2-3 steps more, I would also like the roar to be a bit louder.

The Juggernaut needs projectile effects for Engineer grenade barrage and Revenant (still!).

The Ascensions glider trails should be fiery. I’d kind of like it to be tilted slightly more to be more upright while weilding too.

So after collecting about 9 (maybe 10, I’m not entirely sure atm) I have noticed that some legendaries really need some additions to their effects while others are absolutely swimming in them like Sunrise.

Most recent was Meteorlogicus as it has no arm effect, draw effect, aura OR projectiles and that just doesn’t seem fair since it’s a mainhand like incinerator which has projectiles while being a melee weapon and an arm effect.

Another small one would be Chuka and Champawat because its footfalls last MAYBE a second. They’re beautiful and well made so it sucks that they’re not made to be more visible.

That’s the only two I can think of at the moment but it’d be nice if others added some lackluster effects to this list, maybe get some attention on it so they’ll do to them what they did to Kudzu, FSP etc.

That really stinks.

Does that mean, though, that if I don’t care as much about DPS, and I’d rather build a bit more supporty (not exclusively supporting with the med kit, mind you. I still want to do some damage haha), rather than max DPS…I wouldn’t need the kits?

Let’s put it like this, most of our auto attacks suck. Granade is the only kit good auto attacks. Flame thrower is not horrible mind you. But Pistol and probably even rifle aren’t that good, they are just bad.
All our weapons cooldowns are on the medium to high duration.

If you don’t use any kit you will most likely spend a lot of time doing nothing but crap damage with the autos on the normal weapons while waiting for cooldowns.
People use kits because by the time you use the best skill possible in each and every kit that’s enough for pistol skills to go off cooldown for example. So you’re only using the best skills all the time and not using random bad auto attacks.

People do use Rifle if they go for power builds, but most of the time you use it for utility, one burst skill and then spend all your time on Granade Autos.

You CAN play without using kits, but I guarantee you it’s going to be tedious as hell.

So I don’t have to do crazy rotations I only use Flamethrower when casually playing. If I need range I use mortar as elite otherwise Supply crate or Elixir X.
It’s good and will get you through most generic content in the game.

So yes, I second the guy above. You don’t need to use all kits, but you most likely will HAVE to use one. But pick the one you like the most.

I am not looking for “suggestions”. I would just like to make a comment.
I know anet doesn’t like things like the Engi farm in Lake Doric.

However, I wish there was some way to farm t-6 & t-5 mats that could be done when your real-life schedule isn’t conducive for level 70-80 areas. My day consists of 30-45 minutes of game then “step away” (not botting) for 15-30 minutes. When I was afk from my computer I’d pass by occasionally to re-set turrets.

What complaints I heard were to the effect,“the engi-farm was dropping the BLT price on leather”, yet others would state the hill farm was better for leather. So, the engi farm could not be bringing the cost of leather down, it’s the hill farm. I have not noticed a significant drop in leather to begin with. I don’t have time for hill farm, so while the engi farm didn’t drop as much, “less leather” is considerably more than “no leather”.

For those people who are going to suggest I do the hill farm, you didn’t read my comments. For those people who tell me to just buy the mat’s off BLT, I don’t have time to hope to get into fractals – can’t buy mats unless you can build up your gold.

So, for the next several months I’ll get my dailies, and maybe a frac or HoT – if I can do something quick.

Human female idle animations

I believe the most recent explanation was that they needed animators to make new animations, who were probably secretly working on HoT at the time, and have since then had over 9000 opportunities to do this.

There is clearly no intent to bring these back at Anet, and the absolute lack of communication on this regard screams willful ignorance to me.

It’s been approximately two years since all but one of the human female idle animations were removed due to “cutscene immersion”. Can we get an answer on when they’re coming back? Or has ArenaNet just decided it’s a permanent thing now without telling anyone?

Kenshi Maru.5489

I feel like changing pistol skills 3 and 4 is one of the changes we need the most.

I think they’re probably thinking about future weapons there. Sure, you might think that swapping them would be an indirect buff to shield now, but you might be glad to still have access to Blowtorch when a mainhand melee weapon gets introduced. Conversely, you might be glad to have Static Shot on the pistol when a new offhand is introduced that is more oriented to midrange damage rather than the relatively close-in nature of offhand pistol.

Granted, mainhand pistol could probably do with some buffs so it’s less of a case of being carried by Blowtorch, but I don’t think that simply swapping over Blowtorch and Static Shot would prove to be the right decision in the long run.

I kinda gotta disagree now because shield is just not used because it’s bad and main hand isn’t either because it’s also bad. They’d have to make an offhand that is very, very broken to be used with main hand pistol. You have no other choice there, just main hand pistol. So you need to have a better DPS than kits and blowtorch. Nothing will ever be better than this unless it’s stupidly broken.

This is mostly due to the auto on main hand being horrible. Also you assume that if they ever release a really good main hand weapon people would ever use shield. They won’t. It’s just bad in every case. And even if it was better it would have to be better than blowtorch.

The season why swapping the skills is good and important is that we have “purity of purpose” as the term the devs misused a while back goes. Because right now P/P is a closed package. It’s hard to imagine running one without the other, even if main hand is bad. And if main hand is actually bad there can never be another offhand that makes up for that.

Same with offhand. You can use blowtorch condi. But then what do you want for main hand? More condi? You already have kits. Power? Nothing really good to use with it. Utility? Eh, off hand also already has utility and a lot of dps.

The thing is, we need to bundle stuff on one or the other weapon so we go for exactly what we want when we choose weapons.

We don’t have many weapons, so being free to switch them around and not feel like missing out would be priority on elites

At the end of the day, Anet has a long history of nerfing farming, going all the way back to gw1. I’ve never understood their reasons for it, but after a while you just need to learn to accept it. Moaning about it wont help, it usually just makes the nerf hammer hit harder. My advice is forget about it an move on.
But yeah, I get the point, a game that is advertised as play as you want to play doesn’t stop Anet saying play as they demand from time to time. I’ve never even set foor in Lake Doric, so it doesn’t effect me personally, but the way they have chosen to “fix” the issue doesn’t sit well. Carpet bombing an area isn’t a great way to stop farming, it’s a great way to stop anyone even going there. Seems like they tried to drive a nail in with a wrecking ball. Just my opinion.

Since Anet are going down this route, can we also carpet bomb the afkers at the toxic nodes in Kessex hills and the ones at Bloodfin lake in Iron marches?

Actually to me, the Lake Doric engie farm was bad PR. It is the kind of thing that turns me off from MMOs in general, and I’m happy that Anet stepped in.

The area was designed so that the point of interest on top would be accessible when groups of people ran up the hill to centaur farm.

You can’t complete the map without that point of interest. The engie farm was making it so people didn’t want to go.

It’s borderline exploit and exploits should be dealt with.

What Anet has done was stop people who wanted to put in the least amount of effort possible to get stuff. Good for them.

In the recent patch to the bag farming in Lake Doric and over the years I’ve noticed an upsetting pattern of decisions made by the development team. You cannot micromanage players to how you want them to play your game. It is in fact really bad PR. It was stated that the area as it was, was not being played to your intentions. To me, this is not an exploit but rather a design flaw. While I am not that upset over this farm being gone, it’s the principal of it. Nor was this farm game breaking or giving anyone an edge as everyone else could do it. My point is that the more you try to force your players to do things the way YOU want the more you’re going to lose customers. And also, why exactly are you so against people farming? It’s a basic core element of MMOs. I don’t see any other MMOs constantly changing things to prevent people from making virtual money. To me this is very odd. Instead I believe the proper action would be to set up spots that are intended for farming. Not discourage players from trying to make gold or get materials. Cause let me tell you, stuff like cloth and leather is a real chore to come by. Unlike wood and ore.

Also I find this extraordinarily hyprocritical because nearly 1 year ago you’ve also said that farming with a Ranger in Silverwastes is completely acceptable. Yet farming with an Engineer is not in Lake Doric? I’m not sure what’s going on over there but I think your teams need to have set rules on stuff, communicate better with both your teams and your playerbase.

Benchmarks are as perfect and ideal as it gets if im not mistaken. Its the top guilds providing the absolute most optimized rotation in an ideal environment. Thus, leaving interactions through things like epidemic (EDIT: and if relying on large amounts of confusion or torment vs certain targets) aside you will never beat that unless there is a special burnphase or similar mechanic (or once again non buff teammate interactions such as epidemic if you count your spread condis as your dps). That’s just how the benchmark works and why i find it silly to stare oneself blind on them. Even the “realistic” buffset is highly idealistic.

Its the idea of the roof, not the floor. Its not realistic and to be frank if it was then the raids and similar content are probably way to easy given that you play like it was a static passive golem with perfect boon up-time (meaning no dodging attacks, no play mechanic, nada, zilch).

This is just discussing the concept of what a benchmark is, and also what that means for different kinds of builds (depending on persistent aoes, combos etc).

Believe me i do like the nature of the condi engineer, and i find power bomb engi to be an embarrassment (A and B where left blank for a reason btw). But i will also be realistic.

The problem is unlike most other classes, most of our dps is in the weapon kits. So to achieve our top dps, you have to use at least 3 kits (grenade definitely, flamethrower, elixir gun, and bomb depending on circumstances, and mortar is usually the elite pick).

That said, there are some good scrapper builds that don’t use kits as much because hammer is a kitten good weapon…
