Why is it always fishing?

Why not add knitting, or rock collecting, or calligraphy, or bobsledding, or taxidermy, or…

wait. Bobsledding would be awesome!

Personally I would prefer to have a unified system (kitty) across all characters and the ability to put a deposit of gold in your bank .

This way you don’t carry all your cash on you at once and accidentally buy something at an overinflated price.

Personally I would rather only have a small kitty on my characters and be using a bank for saving gold for the bigger stuff.

Then she’ll die because we haven’t had a heroic death lately.

Great Idea: Personal Legendaries

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: yolo swaggins.2570

yolo swaggins.2570

So my friend just recently went on rant about precursors, legendaries and RNG and spent a whole 15 minutes telling me “they should have been Accountbound on Acquire”, “most of them are ugly”, “You can just BUY them”, etc. But midway through his venting, an idea sprung up in my head that might help with his (and possibly other players’) grief.

I give to you Personal Legendaries!

The way it works is you first “prime” a weapon by using it through gameplay. It will take some time to get the “Primed” header on it but eventually you will see it. This is the precursor that YOU create through experiencing the game.

Then you have to craft a “Body”, “Mind” and “Soul” and then chuck that and the primed weapon into the Mystic Forge to create YOUR very own Personal Legendary. When you receive it, you will be asked to give it a name. From then on you can ping it chat to show it off or whatever. :D

Here is how the creation will play out:

Item 1: Primed <insert weapon here> (for initial shape of weapon)
Item 2: Body of <insert dye color here> (for shade/glow of weapon and size modifiers, no residual particle effects)
Item 3: Mind of <insert top tier material name here> (for weapon particle effects like trails and footfalls)
Item 4: <First gift>ed Soul of <Second Gift> (for body particle effects and sounds)

How to get Item1

  1. Pick you favorite weapon.
  2. Kill things (or just do ALOT of stuff) with it until it says Primed. The more the odds are against you the faster it’ll be primed. (i.e. soloing a powerful world boss or w/e)
WARNING: Priming a weapon is done by a hidden rating and a modifier. As you continue to use the weapon(s) the modifier will slowly increase allowing you to Prime the weapon faster. Unequipping or modifying the weapons in any way will reset this modifier! Priming requires a personal connection with your weapon. :3

How to get Item 2

  1. Get Gift of Color.
  2. Get 50 of one color of dye. (this will lightly shade your weapon that color)
  3. Get 50 of a Lodestone. (this will surround your weapon with a corresponding particle effect when unsheathed. This will not trail and the color of the effect will be the same color as the dye you used.)
  4. Get 150 of T6 or 50 of refined T7 material. (determines other shape modifiers like length, width, depth, etc.)
  5. Throw everything into Mystic Toilet.

How to get Item 3

  1. Get 100 of Lodestone. (This will determine how the weapon trail will look like i.e. Paintbrush, crackle, digital, etc., color is based off of body)
  2. Get 100 of T6 materials. (determines flash effect when unsheathing)
  3. Get 250 of unrefined T7 material. (footsteps, color off Item 2)
  4. Get 1 Gift of Exploration.
  5. Throw everything into Mystic Toilet.

How to get Item 4

  1. Get a Gift of <whatever>. (determines type of body glow and unsheathed effects)
  2. Get another Gift of <whatever>. (determines sound made on attack.)
  3. Get a Bloodstone Shard. (Or a Gift of Exploration if it is a two handed weapon).
  4. Get a stack of items worth 100g or more. (because I ran out of ideas)
  5. Throw everything into Mystic Toilet.

Once you throw these 4 items into the mystic toilet you get YOUR very own legendary that you designed your way. These will be account bound but so worth showing off. As a bonus, I think you should be able to “dismantle” your legendary just in case you think it could be made differently. So I will also suggest this:

How to Dismantle

  1. Have a legendary.
  2. Get 50 Elonian Wine
  3. Get 1 Bloodstone Shard.
  4. Get Mystic Salvage Kit.
  5. Throw them into Mystic Toilet.

And boom, Primed weapon, Body, Mind and Soul are taken off. If you want to salvage said parts you just throw them into the forge too but you only get back some of the materials you used.

Finally, I present to you “Eternity Tier” PLs. All you simply do is make 2 legendaries of the same weapon type and then put them both in the Mystic Forge. The end result is a weapon that has the first PL’s shape and effects by day and the second PL’s shape and effects by night.

What does everyone think about this?

This bug affecting time-gated features has been addressed as of today’s hotfix. If you are being affected by it, you will need to log in to this build before the next reset of that time-gated feature. At the next reset for that time-gated feature it will reset properly.

Event Fairy/Asura News Stone/In-game Timer

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

With the current world boss timer system but respective event chains still active, a part of the gameplay became really messy: you have to open a browser page with a schedule each time you want to do a world boss, then find a time, then convert to your timezone while taking account of DST. Or you may waste time on doing a pre-event chain for abysmal reward which ends with nothing simply because you didn’t know that bosses were changed.

I’m pretty sure at some point someone will rewrite gw2stuff.com to display active world bosses, but playing a XXI century game with a clock and a paper is not really fun.

That said, I would like to suggest a way to display active and upcoming world bosses in game. Possible options are:

  • Event Tracker on the right side of the screen which can be clicked to display a complete schedule in your time zone and current/upcoming bosses.
  • Asura News Stone inventory item which basicaly does the same.
  • Event Fairy/Event Golem – a summonable NPC which can tell you what’s happening in the world.

In the meanwhile, I would appreciate it we at least had an official AJAX webpage with live schedule.

This way people who’re not used to digging up forums will at least be able to plan and organise – just like you wanted them to when you were talking about the megaserver system.

P.S. I’m opposed to the new fixed world boss schedule as a whole as it leads to zerging and lack of choice, but since it’s not going to be changed, I’m looking for ways to make it less frustrating.

P.P.S. I hope this topic deserves a separate thread, but if doesn’t – well, so be it.

20 level 80s and counting.

That was nice.
The living story seriously needs more scenes like this, where the characters just talk and we can learn a little more about them.
Because that’s really one of the biggest problems with the story, undeveloped characters.

Thou as usual with this sort of thing, being temporary means that that anyone coming in after the fact will have nothing to go off of. So their always going to be undeveloped for somebody.

Still, it’s a step in the right direction.

DiogoSilva.7089

The problem with adding critical resistance, is that it’ll make zerker gear worthless, for the frustration of all players who have invested for zerker ascended gear, while the real design problems will remain unfixed. So players will simply mitigate to the best dps gear that doesn’t relies on criticals: power + condition damage + X.

PvE Zerkers.

DiogoSilva.7089

The problem with the zerker meta, is that zerkers have too much survival. There’s no need for support or control builds to exist to mitigate damage. There’s no need for defensive stats to mitigate damage. And condition damage gets indirectly useless this way, because zerkers never have to spend time kiting, escaping, weakened, blocked, etc.

To fix this problem, PvE needs to learn a bit from PvP:

  • Enemies need to have auto-attacks.
  • Enemies need to apply more boons and more conditions on a regular basis.
  • Enemies need to have some sort of self-defense skills.

I replied to a similar thread with this as well. We are taking some steps towards shifting the meta in the near future. I suspect some concrete info will come out about this next week.

Reason #1 why ascended weapons and armor need to have stat switching.

Player spends 600g + worth of mats to get his Ascended Zerk set for PvE.
ANet decides to shift the meta.

There will be much kicking and screaming. I Hope you have a plan.

[PvE] Revising the "DPS Meta"

in Profession Balance

drkn.3429

It’s not zerker that is OP, it’s the dodge and block mechanics that are OP and other builds that are UP.
In PvE, that is.

Introduce a new, widely spread npc-only condition that degenerates endurance, and stacks in both power and duration, so that parties will need condition management. Make vigor a counterplay, rather than the only boon outside aegis you need to survive anything, because you can dodge even Grenth-Priest killshot debuff from Arah4 with a well timed dodge.
Introduce more immobilisation in fights, especially boss fights rather than trash which is skipped most of the time anyway; fixing that will come later.

Introduce condition overflow mechanic, through which bleeding will translate into direct damage when the target is already on 25 bleeding stacks. Do the same for burning and poison, and limit their duration stacks to 3.
Make 25+ vulnerability cause weakness, or take down a stack of defiance. Reduce the duration stacks of chill, weakness, blind and introduce a new effect on going higher than that – a 0,5s daze on fifth weakness stack, for example.

Decrease total hp on bosses, but introduce mechanics that would either limit their hp loss (can’t lose more than 1% hp in a single hit because of iron skin; increased toughness; immunity to vulnerability and weakness), or pop a new twist in a fight (when a specific boss loses more than 1% hp in a single hit, it becomes enraged, or summons minions, or deals pbaoe explosion).
This is NOT something to introduce on EVERY boss, but examples of something that might work.

Remove toughness from the aggro formula; make bosses pick targets more randomly or make damage generate actually more attention than simply proximity and toughness/armor level.

Please give Brazilians their own server.

in Suggestions

Posted by: Basara.9405

Basara.9405

I’m ok with giving them (us, I confess) their (our) own server. And giving us the OPTION to switch.
But I have some points to say (please don’t misunderstand what i’ll say, since I have no intention to be rude):
1 – Most of Brazilians in MMOs don’t have the language issue neither high ping issue. Also, most of brazilians are not in BR guilds, specially in GW2. The brazilians in BR guilds are usually (not always) the ones that do have language issues. And this “language issues” are mostly because our average age from MMO players is low, compared to most of the countries (adults playing games is some kind of taboo here, in some families) . But as I said, most brazilians are not in Br guilds, and you don’t even realize who they are between the game population. You might see english mistakes in my post, but you can clearly understand, right? I see native english speakers doing worst than I do.
2 – I used to think Br ping problem was terrible, since we have low quality internet here. But after one year of GW2 and some other games before, I realize most of North Americans have almost as much lag problems as we do. I see North Americans teleporting too, and its not that rare.
3 – If we paid for the game, and we are allowed to play the game, then we are allowed to speak portuguese in the chats. Just like I see people speaking russian, german, spanish, and so on (in NA servers). I see guilds spamming everywhere, in every language. But most of the spam is in english, because most of the players speak english. So I believe every nationality spams relatively the same, you just think brazilians do more spam because you are not used to portuguese, so it might be just a psychological mistake.
4 – Even if we have a terrible ping and so terrible fighters for wvw… How can 30 terrible fighters be worst than no fighters at all? They might play badly because of ping… But at least they are there to play for your server (which is stronger than my, by the way).
5 – But I’m not from DH (and I assume you are), I can’t really say I understand the problems you are complaining about. But if it’s so bad at DH, the same does not applies to the other servers. Creating a Br server, in portuguese, based on Brazil, just to “save” DH from our bad connection and our language… Might not be worth. And it make way to many other countries demand their own servers or demand server for nationalities that are causing problems to their own game experience. Maybe at some point, but for now I don’t think there is enough brazilians and south americans in GW2 to make it worth creating a bunch of servers in south america (have to be “a bunch”, or they will have no wvw), the created servers would be empty.
So, if they cause so many troubles to your game experience, might be easier to switch servers yourself, than asking all of them to change. I’m in HoD, and Br population here is very small, for example.
Again, I didn’t meant to be rude. And I hope I hasn’t sounded like that.

500 AP for GW1 Hall of Monuments Intended?

If you think having 500 AP’s is elitism, and you don’t like elitism, then I’m not sure why you even care about AP’s, or why this bothers you. I have no idea what the rest of your post after “Don’t Agree!” actually means.

I’m finding myself in the odd position of defending one of ArenaNet’s decisions…

I have already told, that it’s a matter of principle. 500 AP it’s not elitism! Thinking that they are entitled to more things and they are better than others just because they played the prequel is!

I don’t care about leaderboards, but i can see how unfair it is to those who cares. I’m not judging anyone for their goals, and i believe that players should be handed the same opportunities within the game’s existence.

Said this, i believe that the Gw1 had played and achieved a lot in Gw1. However their work in Gw1 was directly tied to their sense of fun and self-accomplishment. No Gw1 Vet player says that they only bought the game to support Gw2! They bought the game to play Gw1! It’s a false statement!

Imho, giving AP to the Gw1 in no way is showing how they played Gw1. Giving AP is a hidden reward (that in no way tells they played Gw1). So in fact, it’s more of a bribe, and pure greed of players to accept it. Gw1 players should proudly wear a armor skin, weapon skin or titles that in fact showed their dedication to Gw1.

These achievements are now giving 50 AP per completed achievement instead of the previous 2, is this a bug or working as intended.

Personally i think these should not reward any AP at all, (just titles + perks) as i feel i shouldn’t be forced to play GW1 to remain highscore competitive on GW2.

yet they don’t want to get any HoM points.

Sure, I’d go there anytime and get all the HoM points I can manage, but it must be achievable through the GW2 interface. Any achievements that are not achievable through the GW2 interface should not be counted towards the GW2 achievement points.

if a gw1 veteran had 500 ap’s more than me, he/she earned them.

But that’s exactly the point. They did not earn those points. They were just given to them for free. What they earned was a title, skins, and such. Have fun with it. And if the devs want to hand out some more stuff to those “veterans” – by all means, send them a fully loaded chest! But achievement points should only count for deeds done through the GW2 interface, hence please no HoM points.

Also, if a free Precursor was given to all 50/50 players, it wouldn’t be considered “entitlement”, since it would be deserved.

Your character’s GW1 ancestors “deserved” and got rewards for their accomplishments.

They left you a beautiful Hall of Monuments, and you let it fall into disrepair. I think they would be ashamed to see how their descendants have treated their legacy. Be glad they put you in their will at all.

Besides, they didn’t have precursors in GW1. How are they going to leave it to you in GW2?

As someone who did play GW1 and has all the skin rewards (if not all the titles), I wholeheartedly agree that they shouldn’t grant GW2 achievement points.
And to be honest, I’m getting fed up of seeing titles from GW1 displayed too, ESPECIALLY GWAMM, as it is longer than any name you can have and causes needless screen clutter.
Let players display GWAMM, but give me the option of not displaying the titles of other players.

how do you expect new players to be AP competitive ? How about the players who will buy the game in 2 years ?? when you are late to the party you are late …..thank you.

Difference is those AP’s were received in Guild Wars 2, you know the game were playing not in a different game you have to pay for. Guild Wars 2 AP Highscores should in no way be influenced by anything other then achievements received within Guild Wars 2.

Hall of Monuments players already earn unique titles, skins and if your a ranger pets which is enough.
