If they implement this, they will kill
all support builds. They will also kill
every other build, of classes that use
boons as core mechanics,like the
Guardian.
It is at least ironic, that players that
play the most favoured, and least skill
demanding class,the thief,are complaining
about bunker builds, and accuse other
players that play such classes, of being
mindless button mashers.
Giving boons to allies, and being hard to
kill is what I’m supposed to do as a Guardian.
And I doubt that a player with a Thief,ever
put in even 50% of the effort I put in as a
Guardian, in order to survive their mindless
dps and stealth mashing.
As for those that say that the game is not
support oriented,I advise them to check
the description Anet gives for the Guardian.
It is “an exelent support fighter” and “uses
shouts to buff allies”.
Punishing a boon class for doing what it
is designed to do,would be the equivalent
of having the Thief loose health everytime
it stealths,or have the Messmer take more
damage for every clone it has active,or get
players to take damage for every condition
they apply.
Now that would be interesting.
Boon counter mechanisms and builds
are already in the game, and the last thing
this game needs,is a simplistic and general
debuff to the one build that gives, high burst
and utility builds, like theThieves,a run for
their money.

Guardians will never use ‘save yourself’ again. Lol…sorry, couldn’t resist

Boon hate…it is interesting and really without seeing it in action any praise/condemnation will be issued purely through a biased lens of your preferred class. The obvious concern is it’ll just wreck boon-centered professions/set ups, however, assuming it is a grandmaster trait, it will make any boon-hate set up predictable…so there is that to consider. It could be that the damage or new play style around boon hate is just so powerful that it end up being too effective. As someone mentioned, a mesmer can keep vigor and regen up very easily-neither provide direct damage reduction, so thinking in a straightforward manner, having x2 w/e damage bonus against boons in that case is…well…not really ideal and the mesmer has no counter-play during the match. Or what if you have might+swiftness+retaliation+stability while fighting a boon hater…well…if retaliation did damage based on the attacker’s damage it would be interesting.

But you see my point-pointless, ungrounded speculation (although a bit fun to do). So let’s be cautious, by all means….but let’s not say we hate a mechanic that is still in the works and have no worthwhile information about.

(Side note: It would be a funny match though: ‘player A gets boons: oh crap I have boons; I’m vulnerable! Best to kite that boonless boon-hater guy until my boons run out and I’m defensless-I mean not vulnerable-I mean…wait what?)

When free speech ends, tyranny begins.

The Living Story - far too vague.

Actually, we’ve been adding a lot of content each month of 2013 but most of it hasn’t been related to the Living Story. That’s because the Living World teams were ramping up design and development while other teams were completing their projects. Here’s what we’ve released in the past two months.

In short, January and February were teaser months for the Living Story. March and April will have much more story content. As always, we appreciate your patience and look forward to hearing your thoughts once you’ve had a chance to play the new stuff.

Well let’s break down a lot of that stuff into the kind of “content” it is.

Value Added to the game (new content)

  • Flame & Frost teaser events/NPCs
  • Flame & Frost teaser events/NPCs (phase 2 – calling them phase 1 and phase 2 is where so much of the criticism comes from, if there was a minimum amount of content required to be considered a phase, these two updates combined wouldn’t even qualify)
  • PvP map (huh?)
  • Spirit Watch PvP map
  • Guild Bounty, Guild Rush, Guild Trek, etc.

Polishing Existing Systems (a lot of this could be argued as pre-launch features that never made it)

  • Dailies/Monthlies
  • Achievement tracking UI
  • Item preview

Features Promised at Launch

  • Guesting

Stuff that should have been done before launch

  • Orr polish

Problems that should never have been problems

  • Fractal reconnect

Normal MMO Maintenance

  • Bug fixes
  • Skill balance
  • Etc.

Let’s be honest, the game wasn’t ready when it launched. A lot of people would argue, the ability to preview an item from the TP should have been a lunch feature (it’s a fundamental desire when browsing the TP for weapons and to a lesser extent, armour). The Orr rebalance was sorely needed. I played there during the first week of the game (and the following months). That place was insanely broken. The vast majority of the content was bugged and all people did was farm never ending events for early money.

I played through Sparkfly Fenn this week on my necro and when I compare the experience to my ranger during the first week of the game, it makes me incredibly sad that I experienced GW2 before the first six months of finishing the game took place (playing through the game again is never going to be the same – first impressions don’t give second chances). It is so clear to me that many of the zones later in the game simply weren’t finished (not lacking in polish, they simple weren’t finished). Most of the event chains were bugged leaving entire areas of the map starved for content (I came across bugged events even today) and a huge struggle to play in (no event experience, some hearts were very hard to fill, lots of story, content, lore and immersion simply didn’t happen for me because the game was not finished etc). It’s not that the game wasn’t polished at launch, it simply wasn’t finished (even allowing for bugs, the meta event box indicating the general theme of an area makes a huge difference – at launch this wouldn’t have mattered because none of these events worked).

I’m not trying to be aggressive or antagonising, but seeing someone be defensive about the amount of content in January and February, it conflicts with how I see things. There is some new content but most of it is balance, polish and completion of the product that should have taken place before the game was ever released. The game has made a lot of progress in the last six months and it’s clear ArenaNet has been working very hard, but the idea that the game offers lots of new content every month is very much a marketing myth and not a reality from the actual player experience.

If there is a “phase one and two” of whatever follows the Flame and Frost content, I suggest you add it with “phase three and four” of Flame and Frost instead of having two months of dead air (ArenaNet keeps using the TV show example – dead air is the closest TV parallel of “phase one and two”). Depending on how robust the final package is (how much content there truly is in phase three and four) it might be a much better idea to spread it out more evenly across the four months (four months feels too long imo unless there is a tonne of content in three and four). As it is, I mirror the OP. The story is almost non-existent atm and it feels more like the website and promotion of phase one and two had more to do with marketing smoke and mirrors than accurately communicating with the players.

Why no dungeon tokens for laurels?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Palador.2170

Palador.2170

I think it’s a pretty straight forward question: Why can’t we use laurels to get dungeon tokens? It would allow solo players to get the dungeon gear, but the conversion rate could easily be set so that it’s a bit faster and easier to get them by actually running the dungeons.

I’m sure there’s a reason why they didn’t do this, but I’m not seeing it. Can anyone point it out to me?

(Note: I play 99% solo, so I don’t really know how fast and easy the tokens come during a dungeon run. Given the prices and what I’ve heard, though, I can assume it’s a lot faster than we get laurels.)

As a player I shouldn’t have to look at the big picture and think “Well I may have put in tons of hours and got little-to-nothing to show for it, but at least someone out there is getting all the rewards for the same or less effort than I am. What a relief!”

That’s not fun for anyone but gambler’s. And really only the small percentage of winning gamblers.

Imagine working 40 hours a week and instead of a set wage, your income was decided by pulling a number out of a hat. Not many people would stick to that job. Only the lucky ones that were rewarded more for equal or lesser effort. Oh, and gambling addicts.

I think that, after a great deal of reading posts on this forum, I have reached an inevitable conclusion: ANet is seeking to tax the living daylights out of us on the Trading Post. And they must be stopped.

See, the 15% tax on the Trading Post is a absolutely meaningless, worthless device. I mean, what does it do? Imagine this: what if you had a hundred ectos, just sitting in your bank, and, suddenly, ANet decided to get rid of the tax? Imagine how much the price of ectos would skyrocket! Everybody would have so much extra money that they suppliers would be able to afford to make their prices higher. You could suddenly be selling off your ectos for over 100G! And without tax, too!

(Psst, little hint: make sure to empty your bank accounts and your pockets before you do that! Buy as many ectos and other mats as possible.)

Imagine where that tax money is going, too. Straight into the pockets of ANet’s employees, I bet! I bet John Smith has hundreds of millions of gold just sitting in his bank account, and he’s laughing his kitten off at us at the mere idea of us scrambling to get legendaries! I mean- right?!

And what about drop rates? I mean, why can’t the Inquest drop, like, 1G? Or Sparkflies, or other easy enemies, like mosquitos, bandits, and elementalists? Imagine all of the money that we would have to spend on the Trading Post!

We should all meet in Lion’s Arch and destroy the Trading Post headquarters.
Next Monday. Be there.

(This is obviously complete satire. If you’re reading this and you’re one of the people opposing the TP tax, let me put it to you this way: even if you sold all of your ectos for 1G each, by the time you picked it up from the TP and were able to spend it again, the price of individual ectos would have increased tenfold, and your money would be virtually worthless due to the fact that everybody had so much money that they would have to raise prices on all of the things in the economy to make up for the massive amount of money, and the continuously increasing supply of money. That’s hyperinflation for you guys. c; so be glad that there’s a TP tax, because it’s hugely important in reducing inflation.)

I don't like Town Clothing

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crazylegsmurphy.6430

Crazylegsmurphy.6430

After viewing the new town clothes I am convinced that ANet just doesn’t get it.

For a moment, lets forget the fact that almost no one manually switches to town clothes. Since there is no system in place to allow the option to automatically switch, most people don’t seem to bother with these, myself included.

That aside, this is a huge untapped market for ANet that they continually throw away. They continue to create these “modern” versions of clothing that do nothing but make the game look kitschy and cheap.

Of course, that is my personal opinion, but what I think many others would agree with is that if ANet released sets of clothing that weren’t “jokes”, and fit the style of the game, many would jump at the chance to get them.

There is no need to try and be clever and funny when making new cosmetic gear. Just release some really nice clothing that encourage people to use the feature. I know I would.

I never will understand why people choose stupid names for their characters in ROLE-PLAYING games… Kids these days, lazy with no imagination.

I don’t understand it either. It’s not my business what someone names their character, but when I see Toaster Oven or Ham Cheese or Bar Soap running around, I definitely don’t want to group with them or play the game with them.

It just automatically makes me think it’s an immature kid behind the character incapable of coming up with a ‘real’ character name. The worst ones are the misspelled ones, they had to have that awful name so bad they had to misspell it Toasterrr Ovven or Bar Sooapp. Ugh!

Totally biased I know, but that’s the way it is.

I dumped 20g of rare greatswords the other day, got 4 exotics (2 named), threw them back in reluctantly and got dawn then gave it to my guildy to make his sunrise. Overall I probably threw about 90g in the mystic toilet. It’s safe to say, you have an awesome chance at dusk/dawn at around 450g given 30s if you take the time to craft each sword. Only problem is you might get dawn and then you would be basically back at square one. Smart thing is to save, but I don’t see any harm in mystic dumping if you are done with farming everything esle for your legendary.

64g nonetheless is not enough to get a decent chance - I’d say that’s about a 20% chance you’ll get your precursor.

Five Gauge's 100nade Guide.

in Engineer

Posted by: Chaith.8256

Chaith.8256

Hello, GW2 Engineer (sPvP) community.

*Update, March 2nd – Thanks to Neglekt/Zodian @tvEsportsGaming on YouTube, a full video guide for 100nade is available from top to bottom. +1 to him, be sure to like and subscribe.

As one of a few sPvP ‘career engineers’, it had taken me just until recent months to discover the amazing burst potential of kit refinement, static discharge, and grenade barrage combined, to which I affectionately named and spread the “100nade” title that it is referred to today. It’s a joke reference to the role that 100b warriors play in this game.

This is nothing but a new spin on a pre-launch discovery to which most Engineers have dismissed as ‘not worth it’, or ‘too inaccurate’. However, I’ve been using it to great degrees of success in tournament play, both free and paid. Immediately, it provoked a lot of curiosity as to how exactly Engineers were pulling these kinds of bursts. This guide will include video examples and written explanations so you can 100nade with the best of them.

The Build:

http://tinyurl.com/apzoda7

Explosives:

Explosives V: Incendiary Powder: 33% Chance to burn for 2 seconds on crit.
- Based on preference, you may opt for exploit weakness, or empowering adrenaline – whatever you feel is going to assist make your pressure the greatest.

Explosives VII: Explosive Powder: Improves damage from explosions by 10%.
-This is a firm trait, there’s nothing wrong with, or anything better than doing 10% more damage on your burst.

Explosives XI: Grenadier: You throw grenades 25% farther, and you throw an extra grenade with each skill.
- This is a firm trait as well. Grenadier increases the grenade payload on barrage (and kit refinement barrage) from 6 to 8. This trait greatly increases your sustained ranged damage, which is key as well. You can not destroy an enemy trebuchet from the courtyard wall without the increased range on this trait.

Alchemy:

Alchemy I: Invigorating speed: When you gain swiftness, you gain 5 seconds of vigor.
- This is a trait that synergizes with speedy kits to buff your perma swiftness to include perma vigor. It synergizes with the 25pt tools minor, “enduring damage” to activate a 10% damage bonus when endurance is full, by keeping this trait active for longer.

Tools:

Tools II: Static Discharge: Discharge a bolt of lightning when you use a toolbelt skill:
- This trait is a useful increase to the burst in which this build focuses on. Another 1.9k aoe bounce on grenade barrage is key to maximizing burst potential. Great for the throw wrench ability, which hits like an absolute truck vs squishies.

Tools IV: Kit Refinement: Equipping a kit creates an attack or spell.
- This trait is what the entire burst combo is built around. Kit refinement creates a grenade barrage effect when triggered with an approximate 20s cooldown. This barrage is exactly equal to the toolbelt grenade barrage skill in damage. The downside to this trait is that the grenade barrage shoots in a 360* fan, and only will all 8 grenades strike the target if you are positioned INSIDE the enemy model when activated. The extra box of nails is awesome too. Hard trait to skip!

-Tools VI: Speedy Kits: Gain swiftness for 5 seconds when equipping a kit.
-Self explanatory, synergizes with invigorating speed to make you as slippery and mobile as possible.

Once a character hits 30-40 for the personal story, the motto becomes “Undeads R Us.” From this level and up all the mobs are undeads. I know it has to do with the story and all, but it has become so monotonous. I did all the personal story quests with my first L80 character, but that ended the storyline questing for the other characters. I just can’t bring myself to go through tons of undeads again. Anyone else feel the same way?

Actually, while I enjoy GW2 and will continue to play, I am disappointed that so many MMO’s in general these days seem to have run out of ideas for the end game bad guy types.
I think that’s why I like Sea of Sorrows so much. Many of the creatures are not of any undead variety (i.e. Karkas).

Undead are a core pillar of the Soulless Triumvirate: the three things that can be killed without remorse in video games everywhere.
