All true but when you say no noobs, what you’re really saying and expressing to the community is that you are indeed a noob and in need of a good carrying.
Saying anyone welcome says you’re confident in your skills and have faith that anyone can be a good player if given the chance to learn and excel.
If someone straight up says it’s their first time doing a dungeon it means that they know they aren’t going to be amazing but they are willing to listen and learn. If you’re willing to be patient with me you might get a gem in the future, but for right now I’m a clump of coal waiting to be molded.
Saying zerker warrior only, link all gear, blah blah blah means, “This is my first character, I have no idea what other classes are or what they can do but they aren’t as good as me. I am da best and you all suck. Profanity. You’re all dumb cause you’re not my class with my build. I am the king of the universe.”
When I’m in a pt with 2 rangers and a necro I usually dread what’s going to come next but that doesn’t mean I’m going to leave the pt. Give those guys a chance, there might be a reason those guys are on those classes. They might know something you don’t and make the run super easy. This isn’t guaranteed for sure but everyone deserves a chance to proves themselves. Don’t judge it before you see it in action.

You mean more easy loot pinatas? No thanks. By the time I whack all the pinatas in secession, I barely have time for the more interesting and challenging, yet less rewarding aspects of the game.
In Rift zone events were in fact everywhere, but after a certain point the basic ones rewarded squat. It got pointless and obstructive even, but that at least kept the larger events and dungeons relevant.
Anet please we need some low level dragon boss events. the three are not enough especially since they are high level to max level events.
add some cool low level dragon events please. Rift did this well with its zone invasions in each level zone. why not here as well?
Well you have similar events in low-level areas such as Fire Elemental, Maw, and Shadow Behemoth. Or do you mean an actual dragon minions?
How is SE placing banners any different then BURN spamming its recruiting statement on every map on Darkhaven every 15 mins?
This guild actually had a rotation method for spamming and gets slammed by low levels for it. Maybe SE is attempting to teach this guild a lesson.
You don’t wanna see the banners? Darkhaven doesn’t want to see the spam. The end.
It always cracks me up when TWO people post the exact same message within seconds of each other. If you start spamming your invite every 20 minutes people will learn to hate your guild. Not a very good way to earn a reputation.
I’m a visual person, maybe others are as well. I’m sure once we get doing them it will be more clear. But let me make sure I and everyone else understood the same thing with an overly silly picture.
Let me know if I’m wrong.

I for one welcome the upcoming changes. Firstly, it encourages people to actively seek out and try the other world bosses instead of sticking to the same few (sunless, maw, jormag, shatterer, sb) and doesn’t guarantee ridiculous amounts of rares per day (at one per toon per day you could get 50+ guaranteed rares a day).
I agree that the basic drop rate on chests needs to improve though (dungeon, world boss, otherwise). Too often I’ve done tough (IMO) fractals or cleared dungeons runs only to get to the final giant chest and find… 3 blues. Or killed the boss of the stage for .. one blue. Seriously? Even 3 bags of coin would have been better than that :P
I also liked the suggestion to tie in pre-events to world boss participation i.e. players need to have taken part in at least one of the pre-events to qualify for the guaranteed loot. This encourages people to help the pre-events along instead of mass afking at the dragon spawn spot.
BTW, you shouldn’t need guaranteed loot lures to play your alts. If you are not interested to explore other professions, test playstyles, and/or generally have fun/utility with your pool of alts, then you probably should just stick to one. :P While I will probably never deck my alts in ascended at the current state of game (so many laurels and letters needed to do each alt), but yeah. At least I had fun running the different professions and I still whip out different characters based on the style I feel like playing that day.
However, this change is a good change because there was nothing balanced about being able to get the best loot in the game
Best loot in the game? Rares are 3rd best.
Personally this won’t affect me that much because I don’t have the time to go from event to event with multiple alts but the usage of ectos is increasing so why is it a problem if the supply increases? Its not as though ectos are the rarest item in the high level recipes. Plus the supply should increase to encourage high level crafting more. As it is apart from cooking crafting has become a way to level nothing more.
Plus did anet really not foresee this happening? It would show a remarkable lack of foresight if thats true. There would be no QQ if the original system had been changed to this in the beginning.

The autoleveling in GW2 has a side effect, if you do not keep your equipment within 5 or so levels of your character level you actually get weaker as you level. This is not a big deal since any equipment will do. Blues and greens are fine, and these are cheap on the TP. Karma vendors in the level appropriate areas will provide good equipment for little karma. Also, the Citadel karma vendor in your home borderland in WvWvW always sells PvE equipment for your current level (autoleveling vendor). If you don’t WvWvW, the citadel is a safe area, no combat necessary since it is your home borderland entry point.
I… don’t understand the problem. Log out, do event, relog on a diff char. If it breaks immersion, I guess you’d better try getting the new reward on your lvl 80 first before embarking on your immersion journey.
Hello, I’m here to crush your dreams.
There will be no mounts coming with the Flame and Frost story arc.
Also, to address further speculation we’ve seen about the concept art for Flame and Frost (and what it may portend): there will be no Cantha and no dragons coming with the Flame and Frost story arc, either.
Thank you.
But you haven’t ruled out unicorns.
ANET SAYS WE’RE GETTING UNICORNS!
Ladies and gentlemen, Flame and Frost patch confirmed for unicorns.
Not like the Karka event though. I put over 30 hours into the event and missed out on the chest because in my timezone the “finale” was a Monday morning whilst I was at work.
A few devs have already said they sort of regret bigging up the Jan and Feb content, as it really was teaser content and didn’t deserve the press they had. This month is supposed to remedy that teasing nature, apparently.

Score update anyone?

Daily achievements used to come naturally since it all could be done in one zone most of the time.
Now a DA has you running everywhere… What if I wanted to just park my butt in Queensdale all day and enjoy the atmosphere all the while getting an achievement.
When a game forces you to do something it feels so much like a chore. Yah no one is forcing you to complete a DA but still , back in earlier days of GW2 it was a breeze and it didn’t feel like " crap I gotta get my Daily achievements done"
This could also be the effects of laurels. What say you?
I think that’s why the word “ultimate” is in the title. You can be an good interceptor at 100,000 dolyak kills, but are you truly the ultimate?
Then titles should be granted along the way.
Reasonable Interceptor for 5000.
Decent Interceptor for 10000.
Somewhat Good Interceptor for 20000.
etc
can’t we repurchase the trait books for 2 gold each? and then just keep a stack of them?
‘worked hard to get one’
Is the problem here. as its just a lottery. Some people probably got them with putting under 20g into forge or a lucky drop – others grinding gold 10+ hours a day and wasted 400+.
I guess you can argue that just grinding the tp price is a goal. But i dont think such a big rng is fair. We are talking 500+ hours of gametime requirement deceided by rng.
Yeah, norn and charr just don’t work (for me) as refugees. Especially the norn. It took an elder dragon to convince the norn to vacate their premises in the northern Shiverpeaks. The charr, well, maybe they’re not quite as indomitable as the norn, but they’re not pushovers by any means.
First off, I appreciate the bug fixes and some of the content released. I really do, and I hate to look a gift horse in the mouth. However, this is bugging me, and I’ve got to critique it.
You call it teaser. I call it extremely boring and badly written. Teasers are supposed to grab peoples attention. Not have them running around like headless chickens, because you failed to make a compelling intro.
It helps if you could be more specific in your feedback. Do you mean:
- Badly written (full of grammatical errors, confusing dialog, characters talking “out of voice”)
- Badly designed (lack of logical flow, unclear directions, broken mechanics)
- Badly messaged (“I was expecting more because of how it was promoted”)
A story does not have to have grammatical errors or confusing dialogue to be badly written. Take Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey, for example. Editors cleaned those up, but they’re still awfully written stories. Anyone can write, especially with editors on their side to fix their mistakes, but that does not mean what they wrote is good.
Regarding the Living Story, it doesn’t hook you in, for one. One of the most important things about writing is to immediately hook your reader, audience, or player into the story – if in writing, preferably in the first sentence. Part of the Living Story’s problem is massive anticlimax due to the advertisement blowing the teaser way out of proportion, part of it is the fetch quest feel of it, and part of it is the lackluster writing.
The first could have easily been fixed by, as suggested, not saying a word on release of the content. Or, at the most, giving the barest hint that something might be different to entice people to have a look, just in case.
For the second, you could have included only one or two fetch quests with other quests to amp up the variety. Say a few refugees get abducted and you have to rescue them, or the road is blocked by lava you have to build a bridge over, things like that.
The third is trickier. Honestly, one of the biggest issues is the “eh” factor. Everyone just sort of feels indifferent, and it makes the players indifferent.. It’s like Trahearne (sorry to somewhat prove you right, Tobias!) all over again, if Trahearne were embodied by an event. None of the NPCs emote whatsoever. These NPCs are fleeing for their lives but it feels like every last one of them has been drugged into a profound state of not caring about the things happening around them. And the seemingly sloppy way the notifications and dialogue are handled, sorry to say, also makes it feel as though the devs and writers don’t care, either. Naturally, a good number of players are going feel nothing for the content as well. When my guild mates grabbed me last night to go get more lost items, I practically groaned. Game stories shouldn’t make players want to dig in their heels to avoid more of the same stuff over and over again.
And yes, far more empathy for the whales than the refugees. You could tell that the whales were in a truly desperate situation, that they were on the verge of death and if you didn’t help them, they would die. They were helpless and you knew it, you wanted to give aid to them. The refugees? Some people hobbling almost wordlessly down the road with some corpses and passed out drunks lying about. No one was crying, no one was running to you for help, no one really seemed all that desperate or perturbed. In a situation like that, you would expect parents and crying children (or crying orphans if you really want to be emotionally manipulative), folks flocking to the heroes for help, seeking other NPCs out for comfort and shelter. In one area is a Charr child who lost a toy. You find it for him and the whole time, he (she?) really doesn’t seem bothered at all by any of the events, or particularly emotional about you finding his precious toy, his last connection to his home. It’s not good writing and it really breaks immersion.
So I talked to John Smith the other day, and he confirmed that everyone will receive a free precursor. Next week. You hit the nail on its head, Vol.
I’m kinda surprised this was even asked outright…
And now I am putting Crabman.6839 on my list of people not to invite into any of my guilds.
Rangers seriously need a nerf because when I meet 4 I can only kill 3 before the 4th downs me.
Also increase drop rate of badges from Ranger class.
+4 to a stat… really?? 5 laurels… REALLY?! Per stat, that makes infusions 925% more expensive than the accessories! Every time I try and understand the thought process behind the pricing of these, my mind reels at the utter stupidity of it…
Sure, I could go pay 25g and a bunch of skill points to get a fine infusion with some AR, but I couldn’t care less about Fractals, so we’re at the same dilemma of paying a ridiculous amount of currency for something with practically no measurable effect.
Either way you look at it, it’s a good week’s worth of grinding for the somewhat casual player… for +4 of a stat! Am I taking crazy pills, or do you guys agree that is just insane?
I’m not trying to be aggressive or antagonising, but seeing someone be defensive about the amount of content in January and February, it conflicts with how I see things. There is some new content but most of it is balance, polish and completion of the product that should have taken place before the game was ever released. The game has made a lot of progress in the last six months and it’s clear ArenaNet has been working very hard, but the idea that the game offers lots of new content every month is very much a marketing myth and not a reality from the actual player experience.
I agree – while Anet have been doing lots for the game in Jan and Feb, those aforementioned huge content updates Colin advertised before Xmas for these months were dealt killing blows when Anet later came out and said they wouldn’t be so big after all. In fact, they changed and would be focusing on “making the core game better” – i.e. fixing all their bugs and exploit holes. While that is all good and necessary of course, it’s a huge letdown compared to expecting great things when you were told to expect something bigger than Halloween/Southsun/Wintersday put together!
I’m now holding my breath that the content updates for March and April include those previously promised “massive” updates that will outshine the Oct/Nov/Dec updates together and dazzle me, because frankly my mains at lvl 80 are now idling and waiting for some new end-game content and stuff worth doing.
I practically just log them to do the odd Fractal or world event boss for a chance of some decent drop – meanwhile I’m back to a low-level alt exploring other maps and taking my time there while waiting to see if Anet will bring some considerable content additions anytime soon. And my patience grows ever thinner… especially being fed the same ol’ ‘coming soon / in the future’ on much requested features that were first reported 4-5 months ago.

*If you like gear progression… this game isn’t for you
*If you like playing a certain role in trinity… this game isn’t for you
*If you like raids… this game isn’t for you
*If you like mounts… this game isn’t for you
*If you like amateur pvp with different modes… this game isn’t for you
*If you like semi-amateur pvp with ladders etc like wow… this game isn’t for you
*If you like pro-pvp like moba… this game isn’t for you
*If you like real open world pvp… this game isn’t for you
*Most importantly if you like to have a goal… this game isn’t for you‘this game isn’t for you’ is a common reply to many posts and it is sadly and actually a true reply for the most posts. I really believe that devs prepared this game for a really specific(even unique) type of a player base.
This post is inaccurate. Liking those things != Only liking those things.
I like having a healing role in Trinity… I also like this game.
I like having mounts … I also like this game.
I like gear progression… I also like this game.
Pointless thread is pointless.
On another note: I am sure the Devs would like to please everyone or as much people as they can. If a large # of people want something, then let them ask for it. Unless the addition of what they want is a hinderance to your enjoyment of the game. If that is the case, say so and why – do not say this game isn’t for you. “This game isn’t for you” is the weakest and laziest argument ever.
Thank you.
“How exactly am I punished? Economically. Everyone who completes the dailies gets some silvers + mystic coin + a Jar of karma accompanied by some experience.”
^You are not punished. You are just not rewarded. Huge difference. Why are you not rewarded? Because you didn’t do the event, and they did. Do you expect to gain when you dont even bother to log in now?
I dont do fractals so im punished by not getting free ascended gear? Hells NO
You are not going to get paid if you dont go to work.
