I don’t think we need additional upgrades, at least, not without rebalancing everything else about combat. I don’t see any reason why a “lodestone promotion” is necessary.

Increasing inventory space seems like a nice idea, but wouldn’t it be easier to ANet to simply offer another bag slot?

K.O. finally. Took them long enough.

Yea. I’m just kittened it took until someone soloed a raid boss for Anet to actually do something

Wait wait wait… did that really happen?
I would think bosses would have built in see through stealth mechanics.

LOL.

Yep. He posted a link to the almost 2.5 hour video soloing that sloth raid boss with a ghost theif. https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/5yy0yl/slothasor_solo_kill/

It took them only 16 days from the time that was posted on Reddit to finally do something about ghost thief, when WvW players have been complaining about it for months.

My observations: at least 1 player here had suggested many weeks ago that damage be added to thief traps so the thief will be revealed when the trap is triggered. It’s been suggested multiple times before the most recent balance update.

Months of complaints about ghost thief in WvW: nothing done about it.

Show you can solo a raid boss with it: Oh Lord Almighty! We can’t have that! Nerf it ASAP!

Do some of you believe that somehow servers would have been in a better position today without links? Let’s be perfectly honest here, all servers were dying at a faster rate after the expansion release than before. Guilds would have continued to move upwards in the ranks to get more activity. Communities would have died regardless, a merge instead of links would have definitely killed half the servers. The many changes from the expansion including combat has either drove off or reduced the playing time of a lot of players.

The problem here is, anet said that links were a quick easy solution to help with population bleed, but where’s the long term solution? It’s been almost a year, are they even working on a long term solution or are they just waiting for this to completely die? Anet has done next to nothing the past year to help promote wvw and try to get players into it, wvw has been dying a slow death from day one.

You can reset the system if you want, but if it exist as it does now, it does nothing to fix the problem as long as transfers exist.

Another derailing post. ^^

(I’m actually not certain if you even need armor ? Never did try this, but do you even need armor in pvp or is your armor rating set automatically to the standard exotics level 80 baseline?)

You have to wear a chest piece, pants and boots, otherwise your armor will be lowered.

With the desert borderland failure at launch in mind, i dont even want to think about a new map or how it’s going to look like. The horrorscenario eeeeek.

Its going to be full of ranger pets to pick, also keep lords will be flying dragons breathing flame and only ranger bows can hit them.

No but seriously speaking, city map, city map for life, with lifts and stuff, palaces to defend etc. Cool npcs, roof paths and everything fancy, but not too big. So 1 city, maybe 2 small ones with 3 bridges in the middle. No home corner system, spawns relatively close to each other. Maybe I am just dreaming but like layouts like Counterstrike and Overwatch where people pewpew from above until melee classes manage to sneak from behind, are awesome.

Nightmare Fractal Challenge Mode

BumbleBee.8456

I don’t know about anyone else but I am really enjoying the Nightmare Challenge Mode.
It reminds me of when Hard Mode in Guild Wars 1 was introduced.
I would really love to see a challenge mode for every tier and every level in that tier.

Here is a snippet of maddoctors post regarding what we dealt with in GW1 and might add some interesting game play to GW2:

The hardest part in GW1 were the mobs before the boss, in almost all the dungeons. Reaching the end boss was the hard part, not the actual boss fights, and in trash mob fights there were far more important to deal with than damage (good pulls, focus fire on healers etc)
The fights in GW1 didn’t last 5+ minutes because mobs (not only bosses) weren’t damage sponges, instead they had proper builds and healing capabilities. A lot of the bosses (and the trash mobs) had healing/defensive capabilities.

So what does everyone think, firstly, on adding a challenge mode for each level, and secondly, add some of the above game play to GW2? (how I would love to see trash mobs with proper builds).

When there are 400+ rating differences between players in a match at primetime and top 250 is the whole platinum division, then it surely looks healthy …

The entire plat division is in top 250 because the rating threshholds are really messed up.

Glicko2’s mean is 1200 and the curve is distributed in such a way as to put almost everyone sub 1600. Arenanet really screwed up with the divisions since literally every division except bronze is above the mean.

@OP please remember that you are on the forums, and the gw2 forums work the same as the WoW forums do – predictions of doom 24/7 ever since the game launched.

[Suggestion] Some QoL things from FF14

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Carighan.6758

Carighan.6758

So, after playing some Final Fantasy 14, I was impressed by some of their quality of life elements. Many of which seem rather easy to implement all in all, and I’d love to have them in GW2, as options at least:

  • A way to toggle AFK from the chat window. /afk, probably. Turns the Away-state on or off. Bonus points if there’s an option to automatically go back to online when I move or use a skill.
  • A castbar for myself, being able to see precisely when my skills actually fire off versus me pressing the button. Yes, a lot of what we do is instant cast but far from all, and it’d be nice to have this additional information available.
  • Instead of just “mute when in the background”, being able to select which sounds play when tabbed out. Something rather cool in FF14 is that I can set, say, combat sounds and whisper sounds to play in the background, but turn off music and player instruments and all, yet only while not focusing the window. Really nifty option.
  • A way to have shared chat channels independently of being in a guild. All you have in common is a chat channel, that’s it. No tag, no nothing. Good way to stay in contact with a group of friends easily.
  • A list which shows participants in a fight, it’s off to the left and kinda small in FF14, but it’s nice to have the option if the main fight is just too much chaos. Good for targeting things which are hidden under larger enemies, 15000 players and a gazillion spell effects.
  • Speaking of targeting, a target-of-target window, showing who my currently selected target is now mainly aiming for. This is good for assist-targeting without having to specifically use the call-target marker every time: If I click on a raid member instead of a mob, I can use the ToT-window to retarget easily.
  • Manual spell effects settings. Being able to set for: Myself, my party, my raid, my squad, WvW Enemy, WvW Friendly, sPvP Enemy, Others, all individually, whether to show full spell effects, reduced spell effects outside of ~1500 range, reduced spell effects flat out or no spell effects (it’s my choice, give me the option), that’d be really useful. Right now, often combat is hectic and annoying because everything is just a giant blob of colors.
  • The inventory icons in FF14 show a set of little dots which clearly mark which slots are occupied and which are not. This is a really minor thing, but it’s very cool to have, and I didn’t know so far, but I totally need this in all MMOs.

Many of these are individually tiny, yes, but they’re nice QoL additions.
And some like the slash-command for afk should be very easy to implement as the UI action already exists, just currently it is an option in a dropdown. So all that remains is to add the slash command, then make it trigger the very same action as selecting Away in the dropdown.

Anyhow, that’s just my 2cp. FF14 is an interesting game for sure, but most importantly I feel there’s a lot of small but also quickly implemented QoL elements GW2 could benefit from.

And I don’t think FF14 has a patent on any of them.

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.

OCE SERVERS

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Just a flesh wound.3589

Just a flesh wound.3589

Consider how the game is set up. There’s a data center in Germany for the EU servers and a data center in Texas for the NA servers. The players on these data centers can’t play with the players on the other data center. This means OCE will need its own data center to have its own servers. On top of that, you’ll need at least 3 servers for WvW and that’s the only people WvW will ever play against. You’ll only be playing with people on the OCE servers for WvW, sPvP and for PvE.

So, ANet would need to build a data center over there and there needs to be enough players to have enough people for WvW, sPvP, and PvE as they can’t play with the EU or NA players. I doubt there’s enough players to fully populate all the maps.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Did GW2 lose its identity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sartharina.3542

Sartharina.3542

I do too believe this game lost its identity. They should sit down and think about what they want with this game.

There are some core issues Ive noticed over the year this game has, comparing to others.

1. Duelling in PvE. This is the only MMO which doesn’t have duel option. There is no reason not to implement it. Its been beaten to death over many topics already and there are only excuses not to implement it.

The answer to “Why no Duelling?” is a resounding “HELL NO!” from the majority of the playerbase and developers alike. It clashes with the fully-cooperative nature and identity of Guild Wars 2’s Open World PvE.

2. WvW maps are far too gigantic. This mode is failure for high tier servers. In WoW, Ashran is really small which makes it great. You don’t need 2 hours to roam the map to find opponents. They are waiting you 10 seconds away from base.
Make maps 3-4 times smaller and something might change.

World Vs. World has an identity issue because it’s supposed to be large-scale strategy, PvPvE, and Big Battles all at once. It needs the large maps for the strategy aspects to work. If anything, I find the maps too small, or at least too limited. WvW is less like WoW’s roaming PvE, and more like Planetside With Swords.

3. Bug fixing. Just look at revenant. 1 year later and nothing has been fixed. I wanted to main it for far too long, but I cant as it feels like in early alpha.

4. Lack of stability. Makers of this game are rushing to bring out new content without previously stabilising old one. Good examples are racial skills and build trees. Revenants state confirms this boldly. Why not firstly take your time to reflect at what you want with classes? Their kit shouldn’t be changed, but rather expanded. What you guys do is expanding something that is not previously stable and polished..

5. Build templates. This could be considered under 4, but its been asked for so long that its issue itself! For unknown reason, developers keep refusing to bring us this feature, which is considered as essential in most modern MMOs.

As nice as these features would be, they have nothing to do with game identity. Except maybe Point 4, which is simply

6. Maps. I strongly believe PvE maps should be released with each expansions and not otherwise. Main focus in between expansions should be PvP maps and PvP modes.
I kinda want to see many PvP maps available, which keeps people entertained faaar longer. Skills can be polished and stabilised alongside PvP map releases, which is great organisation imo.

Your opinion is largely wrong, because the VAST majority of players have and want absolutely nothing to do with PvP. You could pump out a new PvP map per week, and the majority of the player base wouldn’t even give a kitten .

The game is afflicted with split identity – one is a desire for a PvE gameworld without the PvE nonsense other games put out (And they’re always experimenting to try and find what works) They want a world where players coordinate and work together, and I suspect they’re more frustrated than anything with the playerbases’ rabid resentment of calls to cooperate/coordinate and get better at the game’s mechanics.

They also want to be a strongly competitive E-sport.

GW2 never had an identity since they pretty much dumped the idea of guild wars and made a game that has nothing to do with guild wars, i am surprised you never noticed.

Maybe because the title wasn’t based on player guilds fighting each other? People keep claiming otherwise and yet I’m unable to find anything that supports their claim but have found sources from a year before launch that despite’s those claims. How could GW1 (and GW2) not have an identity because they lack something that never existed and never were?

GW1 has an identity, GW2 doesn’t.
that’s the problem here, no guild wars in guild wars 2.

As I said before, the guild wars occurred before GW1 and had nothing to do with player guilds. GW2 occurs several hundred years later than the GW1 story. You can keep using that argument but it holds no weight unless you have evidence.

Actually, the title has everything to do with player guilds, and the original game’s identity. The core identity of GW1 was “PvE MMO that leads to a PvP GvG based Endgame”, that they drifted away from during the development of Prophesies, doubled down on in Factions, and only really started to turn away from in Nightfall. The developers wanted the game to be a PvP E-sport so badly they even named their studio after the concept.

Yes, there’s a silly event in the history called “The Guild Wars” that keeps the game’s Artifact Title somewhat relevant, but it’s only a light patch.

Purpose of Next Ally?

Thanks for the straight up answer.

I am learning the Druid class, and was surprised that “next ally” did not choose anything that could be construed as an ally, not even my own pet (which is an active ally for purposes of activating ranger runes). I think it was the first time I’d ever used the command.

Now that I know mini pets, banners, nodes, and vendors are my true allies, I’ll behave accordingly. Party members, pay attention. ANET says you are not my allies. Just remember that I gave your mini pet an enormous heal just before you died, and beside you is the healthiest ore node in Ember Banks.

I was thinking this earlier. I got an Instant Repair Canister from one of the “Black Lion Goods” chests from log in rewards, and just used it to get rid of the annoying symbol on my health bar. I think the only reason it’s still there is to put some RPG into this MMORPG, it’s utterly pointless right now. The same as those “Teleport to Friend” consumables that I have loads of.

There is so much redundancy in this game, with these added to the bag fulls of Fine and Masterwork Sigils and Runes you get after a HoT meta event, the bags within bags of vendor and salvage trash… they really need to take a look at some of these things. Again.

I disagree that it should be removed. It’s meant to be a punishment for dying… and it is. For GW2, it makes sense that it’s almost entirely a cosmetic issue rather than a significant one.

I’m not sure why anyone thinks that armor repair ever had any more meaning that it does today — the only thing that changed since launch was how much you paid for repairs. It was a substantive fee for new accounts and never more than a trivial amount for veterans, i.e. it was roughly the same chore that it is today.

I think it continues to be a minor reminder that dying has consequences. In the spirit of GW2, that reminder is relatively painless.

BL Keys are like lotto tickets. The value is entirely in the frisson of excitement you get just before opening, the hope that this time will be different. It’s mean to have only a few valuable drops and otherwise junk.

It’s far, far, more economical to simply buy stuff you want rather than to invest RL cash or in-game gold on keys. (And you can almost certainly farm more gold in 15-20 minutes than you can get from a keyfarm.)

In short, keys aren’t meant to be financially valuable; they’re there to have fun taking a chance. Avoid them if you don’t enjoy that sort of thing.

I agree it would be nice if they could do this. It would give all characters more choice of armour skins (less so for charr and asura where many of them are unisex, but there are still some gendered ones). It would also help solve my problem with the lack of sleeveless tops for men – I want to be able to show off my male characters fur pattern/tattoos/bioluminescence but it’s incredibly difficult to find armour that doesn’t fully cover them.

But I also agree that it would probably be a lot of work as male and female characters have different models and I doubt simply stretching or compressing the skin would work. They’d have to actually re-build them.

They’d also have to either split them in the wardobe – so every armour skin is listed twice or add a UI function to select which version you want to show.

What girl hasn’t worn her boyfriend’s jeans at some point?

No girl I know, anyway. We prefer to wear our boyfriend/husband’s hoodies.

I can’t wear my husbands jeans because he’s a lot taller than I am, I’d be constantly tripping over them.

But some of my favourite jeans are a style called “boyfriend” which is basically mens straight-leg jeans in womens sizes. They even have pockets you can actually put things in! Like a whole phone or a wallet! (Or a bat or a small snake, if you’re me.)

To be honest, I’m surprised a game as progressive as this one, with a single queen and lesbian couple, hasn’t incorporated this idea already.

A single queen isn’t that unusual. England first did it in 1553, 464 years ago (and currently has a ruling queen – she’s not single, but she’s the one who holds the power, such as it is). And many other countries have done it before and after.

I have no objection to the idea behind the proposal, rather than the proposal itself.
I’m consecutively against every proposal that doesn’t add anything functionally to the game. Wearing opposite gender clothes won’t make me fight better in raids, kill dragon minions more efficiently, or skritt against braham for ignoring orders of a superior commanding officer.

I have no conceptual objection to the proposal.

I do have a practical one: I don’t want ANet to be distracted by changing the setup. With the current requirements, it already takes them ages to add a full set of armor (for two genders and five races) and even then, we’re not satisfied with the quality.

So I’d support them adding gender-neutral sets, but only if that saves time.

Hope that helps at all- if not then I hope it gets resolved soon! Doesn’t sound enjoyable :/

It’s not related to the collision, that’s a separate issue, I’m talking about the massive camera zoom out/in that happens at the start and end of boss fights, or in certain area’s of the game like TD ley-line confluence.

As a long term sufferer of motion sickness every time the camera re-adjusts itself in an open world boss fight or the center of tangle depths I start to feel sick, I would like to request an option to be able to turn this on/off as I do not want my camera FOV (Field of Vision) to ever change unless I change it.
Earlier today while in Tangle depths around the Ley-Line confluence waypoint my camera adjusted the FOV 3 times in under a minute, it literally broke me out in a cold sweat with my head spinning, which then took several hours to recover from. Count yourself lucky if you have never suffered from motion sickness, I’m just appealing for an on/off FOV auto adjust option for the small minority of us that do suffer from it.

Thankyou.
