I’ve come bearing happy news: This is fixed! I had a chat with one of our QA team just now and she informs me that you and your minions can travel around at will. Your squishy friends will no longer keel over from the shock of the level change.
Apparently it was a guild related issue – but nothing from my side. Still sounds a bit hilarious and odd and not exactly sure what it was, but oh well. I did get a heroic chest tho .. not that I would really like the skins but at least I got a new armorset unlocked without using gems for it
Hey, I want to personally thank you for tracking down that it was something with your character. I noticed an issue with a map you were in and literally minutes later someone pointed me to your post. I tracked it down to it being an issue with some data in your Guild being out of sync with one of your characters, and it also helped us find that several hundred other Guilds were also affected by this issue. We fixed these other guilds after we fixed yours, which should (hopefully) fix lag issues for hundreds, if not thousands of other players.
This bug has been around for quite some time, so it could have been causing people grief for the past year. It also can be less noticeable for some, and much worse for others (which you found out). Sorry about the inconvenience!
Thanks again,
-Bill

Seriously, she deserved at-least a 2nd Heroic Chest and 2kgems or so..
I mean, she did a huge chunk of this important job/bugfix!

She deserves a new exclusive title in her hero panel, “Seka, huntress of very rare bugs” !
I feel that 1 precursor of every Legendary, 1000 Black Lion Tickets and 10k gold is a fair compensation to Seka for the inconvenience of having her account suspended for a few days.
Seems reasonable no?
Hey everyone, as Seka is not able to log in at the moment, her account is not accessible while the issue is trying to be solved. She asked me to post this for her:
Please if you’re having these lag issues that feel similar to mine or you feel like the lag is always around when youre on one character of yours, do this 1. Go through all of your characters, map them into LA or to some not so populated PvE map or spvp hotjoin match. 2 If you receive the message “miniatures have been hidden due to rising population” after 5-20 secs of mapping in on one of your characters, waypoint to other maps and see if the message follows you → if it does → 3. Write reply to this post and write a support ticket ASAP with link to this post.

Suggestions:
- Unlock personal story at level 1 and every 10 levels after, and re-insert “My Greatest Fear” at level 60
Except that violates the reasoning behind the change, to unlock a chapter only when a player can binge it in it’s entirety.
I’m not suggesting they change their binge storying, just that they give access to it at level 1. So story would go 1, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, instead of 10, 20, 30, etc. To make up for the missing content, re-insert “My Greatest Fear” at 60.
So you want the entirety of the first chapter to be doable at level 1?
Key farm much?
If they want to keep the silly 10-level blocks, I guess so. There was a complaint that there’s not enough to do, and since the Personal Story is, you know, content that can be done with very clear guidance, maybe it would be a thing to do.
If you’re so concerned about key farming, then move the key to the level 20 story step. Frankly, I don’t care, I’m just trying to think about what’s best for the flow of play without having to re-write an entire patch.
I noticed that the arrows above the utility skills use to change skills are not vanishing while in combat. While I don’t think this is intentional it is kind of inconvenient when it was an indicator of being in combat.

I was really hoping to see “Automatic camera rotation while defeated will no longer restart after the camera is moved.” in the patch notes today….hopefully next patch.
It was fixed on March 26th, 2013, maybe there’s something with that patch that can help point towards fixing this. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-March-26-2013
Thanks Branden for letting us know that it’s being looked at. fingers crossed for a fix soon
We are now up to 3 weeks.
Can someone from Anet point me to the official ‘what happens at every level’ guide please?
Up to now, we can only assume that what hasn’t been changed yet is exactly as it is meant to be. If that is the case there are still issues with what is left and the messaging is all over the place about it. There are also still some bugs that need to be worked out.
We were told that there were bugs, misinformation and that somethings were not implemented correctly. We were never told what exactly fell into each of those categories. I feel that a map of the new leveling system along with what exactly the NPE is supposed to contain will help drive feedback in a constructive direction.
Please may I have this ‘road map’. Surely constructive, informed feedback is the goal. If it is not implemented as intended then feedback on it is virtually worthless. Surely you can tell us what it is supposed to be right? I mean it’s live, it’s not like I am asking about future development.
This is why someone not very well versed in the game should not “explain” things to noobs.
1. i guess he feels exponentionally dumber playing WoW if thats the case. have you xplained him that in the old system it was actually much worse and that he had to unlock EACH skill on EACH weapon individually AND that he probably wouldnt have those skills anyway?
2. how is feeding the cow makes you feel any more or less stupid than dancing for a cow? Also look at 1, he had same skills as he would have had before.
3. Since the game showers you with gear now i bet you what you want that most people will have avrage bigger stats than they had before, AND you can play naked….if youre skilled. have you “explained” that to him too?
4. What does story starting at lvl 10 has to do with 3 or 4 or any year olds? So if exact same story starts at level 5 it would be awesomly mature now? Does it maybe have anything to do with your “explanation”…yeah
5. If he didnt have anything to do at lvl 6 then im afaraid hes a lost cause becuse thats how GW2 plays you go look out for stuff. If anything (and your frind proved it) it seems that avid WoW players need even MORE hand holding than NPE brought (not really surprising considering how WoW is)
Don’t get on your high horse just because I somehow criticize your beloved system, White Knight #2. People have opinion, and trying to prove them their tastes are wrong is totally similar to religious extremism. Nobody is like you and nobody needs to be like you, and respecting people is the first step into a calm discussion. The way you are aggressive towards an opinion shows that you are not in fact someone to talk to, because you think you’re always right even if it’s something totally out of your control.
About me not being well versed: I am as much well versed in the game as you are. After all you don’t know me at all and don’t know how much time I’ve spent on the game, or GW1, or any other game. Maybe you’d want me to quit my job to play all day long and send you an IG message to boast about my AP? Please, just because I’m not addicted to the game does not mean I don’t know what I’m talking about.
First of all, I didn’t say I agreed with most his criticisms. Second, I’m as objective as you are to explain him what changed when he didn’t understand why I didn’t show him when I first showed him the game a long time ago. So yeah, if reading what is on the wiki in the patch notes means I’m biased, then I won’t deny I am, but everyone is biased then.
Also, to give you the proper answer to your divine knowledge of me and my friend:
1. I did explain how it worked before. To him having the same simple skills for levels gave him the impression he couldn’t better himself right away.
2. Because to him it’s more stupid to dance for a cow than to feed it. We gotta kill enemies right? So maybe it could be changed to “scare your enemy” with only the “boo!” skill? The point is it was transformed into something stupid for the sake of removing a bundle.
3. I explained that the game focused more on skills than on gear/stats. And getting info in pop-ups was not something he considered rewarding, as he felt he was stagnating.
4. He doesn’t like the fact the game believes he can’t progress at his own pace, he is forced to wait until level 10 to advance in his own story. Before, some skills and the first story arc could be done without even being level 5 (key farming was about skills right?). Now he can’t do anything until he is allowed to. This makes him feel like a kid who needs to have his parents’ permission to go play outside.
5. Since he can’t see vistas, points of interest, or skill challenges, he doesn’t have the impression that there are interesting things on a map, and since he can’t do most things he does not see why he should explore with a low level character. I told him otherwise (but you won’t believe I did since I seem to be the anti-NPE Grinch). Once he had unlocked some skills and ended up doing the same things again, he felt bored, and couldn’t do anything but… Do the same things again.
What actually bothers him most is that the game seems really open while it actually is gated. What did I do when I first got online? I tried everything and had my fun that way! Now? People can’t do what they want but only what they are told.
The NPE in itself is not all bad or all good: I do not spit on every change that happened with the NPE, I’m just showing the frustrating side of the levelgating process for a new customer that was supposed to be swooning in front of the new system. My friend might be one in a million, and therefore GW2 will thrive more than ever, but he might be just one drop in the sea of people who could have bought the game but actually did not like the system.
It’s live or let die, and we’ll soon discover how it is.
Son of Elonia.
GJ even catching this OP! Lag and general bug’s have certainly increased since the patch. I don’t recall ever having the client crash so often. Even on load screens the game hangs and I have to kill the process. Hopefully they’ll find something now to fix this.
TY for bringing this to everyone’s attention.
We’re looking into the situation.
If this is really a situation caused by a single character, please have a dev tell us something about the technical background. I’m most curious about this.
We just found Neo from the Matrix.
We’re looking into the situation.
I think I speak for a lot of people when I say I hope you can give us some info about what’s causing this once you have it fixed; doubly so if it really does turn out to be unique to Seka!
Usually these really bizarre problems have the most interesting explanations. Looking forward to finding out about it!
I think at the very least she should get a free character name change to Destroyer of Worlds
This Time Stop is a very unusual “power” to have, but I can understand it must be troublesome to have! I hope they fix it soon
Btw Talon, could we know the reason that made this happen, after it has been fixed? As a software developer, I’m very curious to know what kind of huge loop triggered this.
Do you have anything unusual in your inventory? Maybe it’s a strange bug with the way your traits are interacting together?
I’d narrow it down as much as possible. Eliminate any inventory items as a possibility by unequipping all gear and banking it, then do your map tests.
Same with traits. Write down exactly what traits you have slotted, try removing them all, and test.
If you notice the lag disappearing after doing one of these, then we can start narrowing down what it might be.

What level is your character? If you’re under L80, Chapter 8 is locked. Previously, it was possible to do some of the Chapter 8 steps at lower levels, but they’ve all been boosted to L80 and unlock at once.
It’s not that. The journal problems happen for people that were in the late parts of the story, and happened to be caught in the changes. Specifically, it can happen if you were in the middle of the fear arc (which got removed in the NPE patch), and for those that were on early stages of orr invasion (mouth and eye missions), and thus skipped whole new chapter 7 (because invasion parts are chapter 8 now).
Both of those cases seem to break journal now.
(one of my characters, for example, has the last journal entry as chapter 7: comforting the Tonn’s widow, while being at the kill zhaitan part of the storyline. No new journal entry has been added since the patch, even when personal story progressed)

I just finished my personal story quest. I was pretty excited to see my story journal and to my disappointment, mine only shows up to chapter 7… this toon has been level 80 prior to any feature patches… this is just sad…
Please see my thread here: http://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/support/bugs/Personal-story-completion-not-showing/4442664
Once you finished your story and it still won’t show up in the story journal please add your data to the thread so we can get more results – right now the response posts to my thread are very underwhelming and I am not sure if that is because the bug occurs rarely or if it is because most people do not even notice.
People using belittling wording like whining/qqing" are not taken seriously by me
Same for people posting only to tell others not to post (“deal with it”-posts)
Stuff in the invisible bag should be in the category “can’t sell no matter what you do.” That’s how it works with every other part of the game (and how it worked before TP 2.0). It’s a significant bug.
Thanks for the research effort, Fox.
This is a known issue. Thank you for making sure that we are aware of it though!
Hi, Branden. Thanks for the polite and courteous acknowledgement here in this thread. Little showings of communication like this are huge, at least to me, and it is appreciated very much.
Would you happen to be able to also comment on the other camera issue experienced when entering the downed-state, please?
The camera had zoomed in completely upon entering downed state early on in the game, though it had gotten removed so it would no longer zoom in all the way upon entering the downed state after a lot of requests for it to not zoom in any longer.
Unfortunately, earlier this year it was re-enabled again and is a source of much frustration and the pleas for it to be disabled again have been voiced all year.
Was the return of the previously disabled camera zooming in upon entering the downed-state an intended re-enabling earlier this year, or a bug that snuck by?
Can we expect a re-disabling of this zooming in at some point in the future, perhaps at the same time as when the dead-state camera rotation change gets re-adjusted? Or is it not something that is considered a bug and we should accept it as working as intended as there are no plans to re-disable it?
Any thoughts you can offer on this related camera issue topic would also be greatly appreciated!
Thank you.

The camera did this at launch but was changed some time ago, due to many players complaining about how annoying it was to have to keep moving the camera. However, it seems to have been reverted with the September Feature Pack, either accidentally (most likely) or on purpose.
It is very annoying, IMHO a bug, that the camera points to the ground when you are dead.
Playing alone PVE, it’s no big deal. You don’t stay dead long enough for it to be an issue.
Playing in a dungeon with a group dying does not mean that you bug out instantly. You probably wait for someone to revive you, or you decide to respawn with the rest, or you give the rest of the group help via chat while you are dead, or listen to their advice while you are dead.
Camera continually moving DOWN away from the others in the group is REALLY ANNOYING!!!
Please just leave the camera alone when I die.
Like I said, IMHO, this is a bug.
Thanks for listening.

Bottom line is that they deleted content. Yes folks. Not adding content. Just the opposite. Silly golem chess and so on. It was content , now it’s gone.
Personally I enjoyed the silly starter level quests and such. The game is just so mundane without it. Still playable, yet so bland.
Revert it to back to the way it was before the September patch, did anyone REALLY have an issue with it prior to this?
I don’t the think the personal story was as well received as Anet wanted it to be. We all know what people thought of Trahearne and the Zhaitan fight. We’ve all seen people talk it down. While it did have people who liked it, many many people disliked it. The open world has always been the strength of this game.
I think Anet really wanted to shift the focus to the world and away from the story.
See personal story isnt great, but its actually generally better in the first 20 levels, (depending on your race/choices) But it does provide a backdrop or narrative.
The open world on the otherhand isnt that strong early, its ok, but its not stirring. Also the open world actually loses more with the arrow. Its good for completion, but its bad for making you feel like the game is free and open.
What they really needed to have, was an open world means of leading newbs. Lets think of some newbie like dynamic event chains that tell a story, The truth is the dynamic event system is one of the main strengths, and a well crafted chain in the beginning could be a lot more satisfying than the starter story, and hold them over till level 10.
They should also kind of make it clear when your next personal story missions will unlock.
point is, if they want to keep people, a more riveting starter experience will probably go further than a more easy one, imo.
Every new character I made, I played the first parts of the PS first. It was the best content and the best way to start the game. I even made characters that I didn’t want (Charr and Norn) just to see there parts of the story in the early levels. My only complaint about it was that each chapter was too short.
I agree, if there is no PS at the start, there needs to be something more interesting in the early levels than mapping, which quickly feels like a chore.
