Yeah, especially if I am not a new player, I just deleted old character with 70 lvl and launched a new one… and I am now stuck with these “facilities”…
I browse /r/GuildWars2 on reddit and usually follow links back to the forum. It has driven me crazy that I am always required to login before proceeding to the post, so I figured I would look into why.
It appears the session cookie (which is, I assume, “s”) has a year-long expiry… Normally session cookies should last for the browser session (hence the name “session cookie”) and will therefore be cleared when the browser closes. This does not happen with a year-long TTL and therefore the session cookie persists through closing the browser.
The second problem is that the web-service session appears to have a much lower TTL for the server-side session. This is fine, BUT, when my browser presents my session cookie from yesterday, I am presented with the login form instead of the page I was hopping to land on. This unneeded disconnect is frustrating and discouraging.
Proposed Solutions:
1) Make the session cookie expire on the session. Since the server-session doesn’t appear to persist for that long, there’s no point in the browser holding onto a token that is unusable after a small amount of time. If session cookies are not your thing, at least make it the same length as the server-session.
2) If presented with a cookie for a stale session, do not require a login. Instead either recycle the token and clear the server-session (so they are a guest) or generate a new session and send that token to the client.
There is no reason I need to login to view the forums because I didn’t log out from the night before. If I want to post a reply, I can easily login as needed.
Thanks for listening to my suggestion!

Hey, everyone. We’ve discovered a number of issues related to the new player experience, both bugs and things that are not working as intended, for players who have multiple characters. we are working on fixes for both.
I hope this also includes this huge arrow that shows above my (lvl 80) character’s healing skill everytime she is low on health (regardless of the compass/tutorial settings).
It get’s kinda annoying over time, because – believe it or not:
- I know how to heal after more than 2 years of playing this game
- I can decide for myself when I want to use my healing skill AND
- I definitely don’t see a reason for an arrow indicating I should use my healing skill while it is on CD
Apart from the unnecessary hand-holding aspect, this arrow distracts a lot from what else is happening on screen, because the eyes focus on it on reflex (the arrow is sliding from mid screen to the healing skill and jumps on it -> impossible to not look at it).

I’m having the same issue on a new sylvari character. I hit level ten and got the mail to talk to Mender Aviala, and there was nothing pointing the way. I found her and when I talked to her she acted like I’d already been there and asked me if I got the troll stuff needed for the quest. There is no further direction so I’m kind of stuck. This is for the Awakening level 10 story.
We need a way to actually log and save party chat and regular chat in this game.
I don’t understand why the combat log is so easy to read and then our regular chat isn’t? And why can’t we log it all?
Why. Why would making something repeat a name be a thing that seemed like a good idea. And by that I am not actually asking why because I am sure it is a side effect of something the Devs thought was helping, but what I am saying is — please no. If it can be fixed, please fix it because it looks awful, and its distracting as heck.
And of course say/emote range, it is a flag I will wave eternally because it just leads to unintentional spamming and intentional spamming and is ruffling community feathers, dag nabit

I popped into a tavern last night and tried to RP with people, but on a whole it was really frustrating with the emote updates. A lot of people have migrated to /say because of the doubling and range problems. It’s ridiculous.
People shouldn’t feel forced to move to /say because /emote is SO broken that it’s practically unusable.
Player A: Player A needs to think someone from the team needs to take a good long look at how this appears. Lets play spot the redundancy. If this was a school project, they’d have failed. Just saying.
This is clearly a bug. Before patch, even on stacked maps like tequatl runs, everyone that wanted to display their mini’s could without any problems. Since the patch we are getting this “Miniatures have been hidden due to rising player population” error, even on maps that aren’t highly populated so the message is not reporting the reality.
It is quite annoying that I can’t display the mini’s that I’ve spent quite a bit of time and effort collecting, I hope this bug can be fixed soon. I’m liking all of the other patch features so far though.
I agree. We paid money for our minis, and we should see them.
Furthermore, if Player C makes the ‘culling cut’ for Player A, then Player C’s mini-pet (if they have one active) should make the cut as well.
We buy pets for ourselves, and we buy pets to show them off. They are often times an extension of the armor we choose to wear for others to see, the hair style we pick and it’s color, the color we apply to our clothes or armor, our choice of back piece.
To have that taken away, especially on an item that we pay money for (in many cases), is unwarranted, disrespectful, cheap, and at the same time, sadly nothing I wouldn’t have expected otherwise from them.
Miniture culling also hides my own mini, why???
I call this a bug!
I am getting the message “Miniatures have been hidden due to rising player population.” I have my character limits set to Highest, it was only me and another player in the nearby area and still the game culled minis. Does it count how many players are in the whole zone and then decides to cull all minis? Or is this a bug? Because if minis are going to be culled when you are not alone in a whole zone, then I fail to see the reason to be able to have them out permanently.
This has been for a while.
Unknown when showing online means they are logged in but on Character Selection Screen.
However, I am a little concerned about people who are showing invisible are being displayed as in an area, whilst people who are genuinely offline are shown as ‘Unknown’ – so people can tell when someone is offline or just invisible.
They can’t really ignore it if we effectively band together and make our voices heard; the problem is that RP communities tend to fracture and not unite around any singular cause/website/group/et cetera.
I really can’t imagine the double-name thing would be difficult to fix. The other changes (to the color, and the range) would be gravy, but the duplication seriously just looks like hot garbage.
So um, if now I can only unlock the 70-80 missions when I hit 80… what is exactly the point of doing story seeing that max level is 80? Just curious.
I would say that I found the steady pace of personal story questions (every 2-3 levels) to be one of my favorite aspects of the game. I am a casual player who might gain 1-3 levels per week with a character. The previous set-up allowed me to consume the personal story in very well-designed “bite-sized” chunks.
I am very disappointed in this change. Now there will be a big “chunk” of story all together, followed by 10 levels of less interesting content before more personal story is again available.
Edit: I wanted to add that this change seems to me to only penalize players. If a player was previously “frustrated” with the personal story being broken up, they could simply have waited until level 10, 20, 30, etc and then completed a chapter all at once, the same as the new design. This new design seems only to penalize players (like me) who enjoyed consuming the personal story content along the way, at the designed level.

I fear it will be brushed under the rug. The devs will likely just sit there and give a generic ‘works as intended’ response and ignore the rest of us. RPers sadly are in this MMO and many others treated as second class players and though that comment will likely be met with some amount of outcry it is true. We are a smaller base than the PvEers or the PvPers but we are still a decent sized base. However that is digression into another issue. Point is if it were something that caused the large PvP base to complain or those in dungeons it would be acted upon immediately, but as it only affects RPers…. eh they’ll ignore it.
I think this was added as a functionality to ignore emote (ignoring players now ignores their emotes, too)
However, it’s terribly clunk and needs to be fixed. It needs to look like the old system (Player Name emotes) or, if it can’t, it needs to remove the extra instance of the player name so it looks like (Player Name: emotes). The current version of (Player Name: Player Name emotes) is incredibly awkward and bothersome.
We’re not interested in not viewing emotes. We’re interested in using them to emote actions and not being spammed by people trolling RP
I don’t really mind the range of emotes. It’s things like /dance and /wave that the range could be shortened on. It doesn’t make sense that you wouldn’t be able to see an action despite not being able to hear spoken words, so /say and /me are fine as they are if you ask me.
But the double name thing is a really annoying bug and I hope it’s fixed soon. People with long names take up half the chat panel with their names pasted there twice per emote. Who’d think that was a good or even slightly intuitive idea?
Except PvP and PvErs get very frustrated when they run into RPers and have to hear nothing but blocks of text when they aren’t standing anywhere near them. This isn’t just a RP problem, it’s a problem for all players. Getting emote range in line with say range would be agreeable to all, probably.
And for the record, most of the time when I hear someone’s emote I don’t even know where they are. So why would someone’s chin scratching emote matter to me when I’m half a mile away?
The emote chat/channel IS a pretty terrible color at the moment. I know several color blind people who struggle with it. But that’s kind of a moot point all together, I think if they did what they did with combat log to regular chat (ie: different colors, vibrant, names have different colors based on class or whatever) it’d be a lot easier to read.
Agreed, having the names show up twice is very annoying for RPers. Being able to click the names is certainly a new feature, but it doesn’t make up for the fact that say and emote are pretty much the same now.
Hello! I don’t know if this has hit your radar yet but custom emotes are in a silly state right now. The range is still massive (instead of being closer to the /say range, which no one benefits from) and currently if you custom emote it turns into:
Billy Bob: Billy Bob does a custom emote.
Most preferable would be to keep the first name selective as it is currently in game, but to get rid of the : and double name all together. If that’s impossible to do, I think
Billy Bob: does some custom emotes.
would be the best.
(And please adjust emote range to /say range size! Emote range is massive and contributes to a lot of angry RPers, PvPers and PvErs who feel spammed!)
My mini Rytlock has dissapeared and now I have two Queen Jennahs. I guess Rytlock had always felt like a queen and finally decided to make a change in his life.
1.) If I scroll to the bottom of the list of things in my inventory to sell, after I list something, the pane on the right scrolls up halfway through the list and then I have to re-scroll down again manually. It would be nice if it didn’t scroll at all by itself after I list something.
2.) If I am have selected an item that I want sell and choose to salvage it instead the window still stays open and lets me click sell anyways which then give me an error message. I would be nice if it new I listed it and that it isn’t in my inventory anymore so to close the items listing window.
3.) When listing something the up and down arrows by the numbers to change the price are so small that they are difficult to even click on to change the price.
“Miniatures have been hidden due to rising player population”
This is the message I get every single time I equip one mini, is this some kind of joke? The map is completely empty (lvl 20 zone).
I cannot see my own miniature.
this needs to be fixed soon!
I am also against the idea of hiding mini for other players in crowded places …
this is like putting players nude for performance reasons …
Thanks,

Unbelievable that over a year and no fix… This should be someones priority. I can’t even search viable guild listings because it’s impossible to search for my server…. ugh. Game is called Guild Wars, can’t search for a guild… fantastic.
AN orb please !
bloodstone shard is the item and the missing n in the description drives me crazy
