With Evasive Arcana, an Arcana tree grandmaster trait, you could roll to produce a spell effect + blast finisher, with the spell effect depending on your current attunement. Each was supposed to be on a 10 second cooldown, so you weren’t supposed to be able to stay in fire and double roll for double procs, but you could roll in fire, then roll in water for double procs (of one of each effect). The blast finishers on the end of roll made for strong combo potential and interesting gameplay trying to roll into specific fields. Many builds were based around this one trait.

The blast finishers were completely removed in the last patch, hence why there’s a ton of complaining right now. I think a lot of people expected it to be nerfed somehow, but I don’t think many expected them to just straight up remove all the blast finishers, because it just completely removed the playstyle.

I like the elementalist, but I would be lying if I did not say I was waiting for the patch notes to see if I will keep playing the game.

I have been waiting for these patch notes as well that will make me decide my main.

People are telling me that there is going to be a massive patch today (not for lost shores) but changes to classes and bug fixes and other big changes, is this true?

If they add in-combat weapon swapping, that would double the number of skills we can use, which is idiotic in every sense. I wouldn’t mind out of combat switches, but other classes would also need access to a similar feature for a 3rd or 4th weapon set.

And Elites, I pray for an elite I can use. As it is now, I don’t actually ever use my elites, ever, at all, not even occasionally.

we already have out of combat weapon swapping, we just go into our bag and change our weapon lol. So why would they need to add out of combat weapon swapping?

To me the risk vs reward is nice, but the time vs reward sucks. My Warrior can kill 6+ mobs in a fraction of the time my Ele can and not even break a sweat. It is really kind of sad…

You’re obviously doing it wrong. I can drop way more mobs than any of my other toons on my elementalist.

PvE-wise, I’d say they are definitely worth it. There is a steep learning curve, but once you master it, as said above, you can easily become a very versatile machine.

They are a little lackluster in PvP at the moment because our damage is very low in most builds and unless you’re running D/D it is insanely easy to dodge most of our attacks (without using the dodge button). You can still be effective but its more situational (great in group fights and in siege/defense situations).

Hopefully most of the problems we do have will be resolved in the ‘big patch’ coming tomorrow.

What big patch is coming tomorrow? I haven’t heard about this :S

I agree there has to be weapon swapping for Elementalist, and engi, because i don’t want to run away from mob then wait a bit just to change a weapon and run back, by then all the mobs hp is back up.

weapon swap? well you already got 20 weapon skills you can use on the fly, where other classes (not counting engi ofc) have only 10, surely that is more than enough.

As for defence, well you don’t have less defense as such than any other cloth class, as you using same armor as them, but ofc if you want to go for high damage you have to sacrifices stats like toughness and vitality, so yes if you play an elemetalist is pure fire attunement with only offensive stats you WILL take a lot of dmg. So learn your class maybe? does earth atunment say you anything? quite a few nice defensive skills there. The mesmers and Necroes you see survive really well are ppl taht know there class really well and might not be full glass canon builds

First , attunements are made to combo , that means , 20 skills help nothing , they are meant to combo to form what other classes get with 10 skills , so what you think is an good thing , is actually a gap.

Second , eles got the lowest pure survival in the game , Smallest HP pool + Light armor. Necros , unless the player is really really bad , are imortal on normal PvE , never leved a mesmer to 80, so wont talk about it , but from what i heard , they also die hard using ilus. (Not saying pure defense eles die fast either , they can tank well , but they need to focus on this … while my necro still survives without problems going full dps.)

I think eles do need balance , that said , i dont really think these changes are what the class needs.

I think Anet would do a better job than me finding how to balance them.

What sort of play-style are you after then?

Anyhows, Knight (PWR/PRE/TOUGH) armour is always good, with accessories that boost Vitality.

I’m after a play style that can do good damage but wont get killed quickly.

1) 4 Attunements over 2 weapons would give you access to 40 weapon skills.

I think it’s more about sacrificing versatility of different weapon play-styles for versatility to have more skills, than making it more complex. If you want to mix the play-style up a bit, take a Conjure weapon.

If weapon-swapping caused all attunements to go into a cool-down so you couldn’t cycle ridiculously fast, I wouldn’t have a problem with it.

2) Mind me asking what build you run?

I haven’t really found a secure build I have just been testing ones i have found

Recently I have been focusing on the Elementalist quite a bit and i have been thinking of some improvements there could be, for example:

Elementalist Weapon Swapping:

All weapon sets have completely different play styles and we are forced to stick with one of them, its unfair when other classes are able to swap when they feel the need and we cant. I know Elementalists have the four different attunements to swap between but surely it will still be easy to use even if we are swapping the weapon.

I know an Elelementalist is a mage type and mages overall don’t have the best defense, but I find Elementalists have the lowest out of all the three light armoured classes in the game. If I want to do a high damage build to deal out some good hits, when i get hit by a mob (or a player in sPvP ) I can nearly lose all my health in 1-4 hits which personally I find to be very weak. Necromancers and Mesmers on the other hand can survive really well in PvE and sPvP etc.
