I agree this would be a nice change. I bought the ICC never expecting this, and I still don’t, but it would be a welcome change to let me get something for all these continue coins.
Alternatively I may just save them and try TM: Suicide mode with as few coins as I can manage, leaving my ICC in the bank

Health potion "upgrade" is a downgrade...

If you give back the heart upgrade, you also have to give back your achievement
I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. I have to deposit baubles in my vault all the time anyways, even with the 750 tote bag. I never use potions either, but if you’re actively playing SAB (let alone doing the dig spots in W1 every day) you’re swimming in baubles.
In principle, sure it goes against common sense. In practice? It’s the price of the upgrade and really doesn’t matter with all the baubles available.

I would like to see confirmation of anyone completing Master of Baubles, World 2. There is a discussion going on in another thread about a room that no one can seem to get into, and speculation is that a bauble might be in there. Odd though as Master of Secrets, World 2 works fine and you would think this “broken room” would be a secret.
If there are baubles I’m missing in 2-3 (along with checking my work with others’ guides) that’s fine, but if no one can seem to get it something might be wrong.

The door that you open with the 3 barrels and invisible teleporter bugged on me. I wouldn’t leave a key there, but jump down into area 8 before dropping a key. I had it open, went through the invisible teleporter, left a key there, but then when I went back it wouldn’t let me in. The door was open, I could see the barrels, but I couldn’t walk in. I tried the Lullaby again but nothing, I was completely locked out of that room (and my key).
EDIT: Whoa, works totally fine now. Trippy!

First off, dozens of hours is a bit extreme.
Second, you nailed it: people would farm (for not that long) to get 30g in the first place to buy the ICC. This isn’t even limited to a cash only item. Now we’re just splitting hairs between farming for the 30g to buy the ICC, or farming for the regular continue coins. I don’t really see a difference.
Like someone else said you can farm TONS of baubles without stepping foot into a tribulation mode. Turn those into continue coins. Then do tribulation mode. When you beat it, you get reimbursed if not better for those continue coins you used during the run. That didn’t even take 1 dozen hours, let alone dozens.
People are making the ICC out as a requirement, it’s not. Many people bought it simply to support Anet and future SAB development. Others bought it because they had 30g available.
Saying you haven’t heard of anyone do TM without the ICC and correlating that to all players as being a requirement… well that’s more than a bit misleading. Players that use the forums are the vast minority. Those who put up videos even less so. I am willing to bet that a ton of people have done TM just fine without an ICC.

Please show me your vid of you without a continue coin or guide going through TM without dying once, since content is clearly too easy for you.
^^^ So much this. ^^^
If you think you aren’t supposed to die, you don’t understand the game type.
Using the ICC still makes TM easier because once you learn where to jump by trial-and-error, you don’t have to be as precise getting there. Just because you have to die doesn’t mean you have to die infinitely. Playing TM without the ICC in your inventory is definitely harder.
^^ Hasn’t completed Tribulation mode.
^^ Has a few times. It’s easier when you don’t have the stress of needing to make the jumps on top of everything else in TM.
Ok see now that is an accurate statement. Saying that the jumps do not require precision just because you know where to jump is not.
There are some very challenging jumps in World 2 Tribulation many of which you have to preform consecuatively to progress.
When I said “you don’t have to be as precise getting there when using the ICC” I meant that if you die it’s okay, you’re not using any precious resource. With the ICC even the hardest jumps aren’t going to eventually kick you out of SAB altogether, you can take as many tries as you need. Without the ICC the hardest jumps have another element tacked onto them: not only are they technically difficult but you must make them, you can’t waste lives missing jumps you know how to do. You must use up your lives only discovering the right path. Once you know that path you better not waste lives going through it.
I have done TM with the ICC, this is not at all about one way being better than the other. I was only responding to the idea that the ICC has no effect on TM’s difficulty. I disagree with that for the reasons above. It would be harder for me to do TM with my ICC stored in the bank, I’m sure of that and I will likely try it once I finish the other things I want to do in SAB.
I imagine it would take pressure off a bit sure. To be honest my time to play would have run out before my lives would have. As I mentioned right now I have about 1500 baubles and about 30 continue coins, that is a hell of a lot of lives. Much more then it took me to complete any one zone.
Call me crazy but I am just not afraid to loose like a lot of poeple seem to be. If I got half way through a zone and ran out of coins I would exit and farm more.
This is for another topic but I think the ‘everyone is a winner’ society that we have adopted over the last 10 years has people afraid to loose at anything.
You learn way more when you loose then when you win. Take a risk, try it out.
I completely agree. Too many people balk at the idea of achievements actually requiring you to achieve something.

I’m not arguing it’s “slightly pay-to-win” at all, that would be stupid. There is no difference between “slightly P2W” and “P2W”. I agree with you there. I don’t think it’s pay-to-win at all.
With ICC: Unlimited lives, no need to go find more continue coins when you die.
Without ICC: Go find more continue coins when you die.
There is no advantage inside of SAB other than the speed at which you complete it. If that is considered P2W then I think it’s impossible to come up with a cash shop that isn’t. My definition of a good cash shop is one that only supplies convenience (see: GW2) and not advantage (see: LOTRO).
Once you start defining convenience as advantage you open a can of worms that allows pretty much nothing to be sold in the gem store.

The baubles are not in “unrealistic places”. I love that you can see them from a ways off, but you can’t get there for awhile and it requires some clever platforming. Outside of 2-3, 2-2 has the best platforming IMO
I also agree that not every single player should be able to get every single achievement. Otherwise they’re not “achievements”. I know there are achievements out there I’m not getting. This may just be one you’re not getting. That is okay and doesn’t make you any less of a player.

Is there something I’m missing in game telling you guys this? I hate to look at guides for SAB, I like figuring it out myself but I feel really left out on this information. The gatekeeper song I get, you learn it and then have to use it right there. songs are in the different world 2 levels
123123 – on a log in a shop where he says the owls are not what they seem in w2z1
332331 – from dropping down into a mountain filled with poison with a flower that (vaguely remember that one, was in ninja area w2z2.
133133 – in an ice maze in w2z3
You have to learn it before you can use them.
What do they do? I know one is a gatekeeper song, I found that one. I also got the 123 song from where you first get the flute, but I don’t know what it does. Does one of them reveal places to bomb or something?

I don’t remember seeing this one on your list. It may be the one you’re missing since there’s only ONE way to get it and it’s not listed specifically.
Is this on the first mountain before you teleport to the other? or after that?
General area is helpful to narrow things down on if it was found or not.
Thank you for posting this, after I try a bit longer I’m going to read through it. I’m glad we have a discussion for 2-3, as this has been the most frustrating zone in terms of finding all the hidden areas.
It seems every time I follow an obscure ledge out to some unused platform, there is no hidden area for it. I use bombs all around it and nothing. How are you guys finding these, is there a different pattern where bombs are normally used? I can spot some, others not at all.
In terms of just playing and exploring I really love this zone. Almost pure platforming, so great.
Also how do you know where do use the flute? Any cues for that?
Just use the flute anywhere and everywhere pretty much. Although the cave wall above the first shop that you drop into did not appear with the secret song, but it was destructible anyway.
Okay I’m missing something about how the flute works it sounds like. There’s a song to make breakable walls appear more obvious or something? If there is where do I learn that?
I love the exploring and stuff but I’m only 4/17 after spending quite a bit of time (and baubles for bombs) today. I feel like I’m missing some trick the rest of you are using to be 16/17 or even finished entirely.
Jade Quarry
What is the sound? Same as the pistol (whip sfx)?

I have it bound to my middle mouse button, and successfully get a dodge jump about 75% of the time I attempt it. Just gotta hit them both simultaneously, same as anyone who has ‘V’ bound. Just can’t do it with one finger is all.

Missing Wood Platform for Honeycomb in 1-3?
in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

What everybody have said. Tho that slab of wood helped me first time. I at least knew the direction to jump to… now … nothing . I pity new players. I hope it’s a small bug, and it’ll get properly fixed with even the slightest hint to jump there … (a mound with a flower?)
Even these “new” players you’re talking about are willingly in TM. I’m sure at this point in world 3 they will have figured out many of Josh’s tricks.
This is assuming that they haven’t even died at all in that honeycomb zone. As soon as they do it's pretty obvious there's a random pillar out in the middle of the lava you're supposed to use at some point. Also, manipulation of the camera can sometimes help you find out when it is real floor and when it is lava.

Going off topic from the TM debates (since this thread is about normal mode anyways) I have one minor gripe I don’t think I need to create a new thread for.
In 2-3 I hate how there are SO MANY little cliffs that you have to do hard jumps to get to but I have only found a couple dig spots or hidden rooms! I see a platform up high somewhere, try to get up there for awhile, finally make it to what seems like an obvious secret spot but nothing is there
More a gripe than a complaint like I said, I’m sure these are all here as purposeful distractions or something but it just seems like in the other 5 zones of SAB spots like these would have dig spots or hidden rooms almost every single time.

If they think TM is too easy, maybe they should drop that Coin in the bank.
This is pretty much what I imagine is happening (though I’m sure we’ll get a lot of people saying how wrong we are!). Thanks for sharing the laugh with me
Jade Quarry
To hope that more things that are added to fit your preferences is completely fine in my book. To hope against things simply because you don’t like them is where I have the issue. It’s kind of a silly line to draw, I get that, but the former is being positive and optimistic while the latter is being negative and selfish.
Thank you for taking the time to clarify your position. I respect that SAB is not your favorite content, and I do hope that we see some more things that suit your tastes better down the road. Until then, you can find me in the Adventure Box
Jade Quarry
Moreover, please understand that it’s not that I hate jumping puzzles so much that I want them gone on principle. There are two substantial ways in which they affect me and gamers like me:
1) The lost creation of potentially more enjoyable content, as resources/dev teams will be occupied making JPs
and
2) The loss of potential achievement points from not doing JPs
I responded to these two quotes specifically. Both of these statements are incredibly selfish. Whether or not this is SAB specific, or JPs in general, my comments do not change.

That slab of wood may as well have been a bug anyways because you never actually landed on it. The slab of wood that was there only existed in graphics, you could not walk along it.

Jade Quarry
I understand and respect the idea that you don’t like jumping puzzles. I play with many friends in game who don’t like them either.
I do not at all respect the idea that jumping puzzles should not give achievement points (or should be removed on some made-up “principle” because they do give points). You’re essentially saying only the things you can do or enjoy doing should be rewarding. That’s extremely selfish, and I’m glad the devs don’t think like you do.
One last note about the whole “taking away content from other parts of the game”. You need to understand that games, especially big ones like GW2, have different teams. Different teams do different things. Aside from the whole selfish factor of you needing the devs to only be working on what you want, who’s to say they would be developing content like dungeons if SAB was never allowed to exist? Given the minds behind this and what they are talented at and clearly enjoy, it’d probably be something you hate just as much.
Bottom line, don’t be selfish.

2. Once you die to that trap you learn it’s there and you learn what the traps look like and where they usually are. You also get your life reimbursed due to the recent patch.

Honestly I think the flowers were the only unnecessary change. None of them were buggy to my knowledge, and to use some of them in different ways it required some creative thinking. I would have preferred they stayed the same.
That’s a jump you should easily be able to make if you use the pictures in Dulfy’s guide.
That rock she jumped on has been removed, now only a tiny piece of it remains against the wall. There is another way in, but Dulfy’s guide is not it.
You can still make the jump, it is a bit harder now. The little stub is enough to land on it. You just have to turn a bit left when you jump (i.e. change direction when you jump so you land on that little stub
See example: http://dulfy.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/gw2-associate-of-baubles-world-2-achievement-guide-64.jpg
Remember you are carrying the key for that chest so anything risky could cause you to lose the key if you die in the waterfall.

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School
Posted by: Adamantium.3682
At a glance at the patch notes, I’ll miss some of the difficulty, but I imagine it was hard to keep the water spouts as going up and down while removing the weird knockback bug.
Looking at the patch notes, it fixed the problems a lot of people were having in Piranha Bend (hopefully). It made 2-2 not such a terrible grind. These are both improvements to problems that didn’t make it hard in the way it was intended, but hard because of bugs and/or wonky mechanics.
Thanathos said it well: World 2 is still a notch above World 1 in difficult level, and with this patch it allows Josh and the team to continue to ramp up difficult without it becoming impossible.
Off to try the changes now!

He took about 3 icicles in total I believe, that’s about as much information as I can give.
Just because it works for you does not mean it is not bugged, and coming here saying so is not helpful and really just serves to frustrate those who are having problems even further. Some are getting it without earning it, some are not getting it when they earned it. For some it even works normally. This would be the definition of a bug.

No problem with the infinite continue coin. Ask yourself: Would you buy this, if this was a kickstarter game with Steam early access?
Great perspective. Funny, I was just talking about this with a buddy of mine who also loves SAB. We would buy SAB as a standalone game on Steam right now for $10 easy. All 4 worlds completed? $15-20. Less than that for an ICC in a fully developed MMO where I have already paid for and played the heck out of the rest of the game? Yes please!
