Hmm, at first I agreed with a lot of posts in this thread about the staff not really fitting an Engineer. Then I thought it doesn’t have to be a spell casting staff, or even a ranged weapon at all. Something that combines a lot of the ideas people have been putting out for Engineer hammer skills, but on a staff. Maybe the hammer is more blunt force (and our technology improves the impacts of each hit), where the staff is more of a giant Swiss Army knife if you will. It would be a quarterstaff, where an electric shock comes out of one end, fire shoots out of the other, we could activate an anti-gravity device to suck people to a spot (much like the Aspect Arena fire skill), etc. Maybe we could drop a personal Asura portal similar in functionality to Shadowstep.
I see potential for two different melee weapons, one more finesse and one more brute force.
Jade Quarry
Shortcut Eagle’s theme music is great, as well as the visuals. Just a blast to play through. I wish we didn’t have to worry about getting knocked off, then I could really cruise along, but I still feel it’s one of the best parts of SAB.
There is a spot you can stand for the whole ride, providing you have a potion or two to heal up a couple times.

This is an elegantly simple idea, I like it.

So I get to last level of world 2 in infantile mode and I find out, that I need 400 baubles to get the torch to progress, too bad I have only 100, as I already spent 180 on the candle and bosses just don’t give you enough, how was I supposed to know that? Do I need a guide to play infantile? O.o So now I have to GRIND just to see the rest of the worlds
The candle is free. If you paid for it, I’m sorry you didn’t find the hidden shop where you get it for free.
You do not have to GRIND just to see the rest of the worlds. Do the dig spots in 1-1 and 1-2 alone and you’ll have enough to buy the torch. That takes about 15 minutes.
Hidden?
I don’t remember which one it was in, I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt for not finding it themselves…

Whoa f**k, dude, you must be a godsend!
I don’t know if it really was only your words, but after reading them, making 1 big breath out and forcing myself to get calm after having made like 50 fails before I made it finally.
I said to myself only.. dang it, I’ve tried it now already so often with no success, always on the hurry not to stay too long on the clouds that I must have been pressured myself way too much and after taking away my selfmade pace and jumping slower and staying forcefully calm I made it 3 tries after reading your words.Wohooo god i feel so dang reliefed now as if a hard rock has fallen from me that weighted on me
Proof ^_____________________________^
Grats, I’m glad I could help
Jade Quarry
A good rhythm is to queue up 3 as you’re running to the clouds. When you land on the first cloud hit 33 (just to be sure you get the song), then jump, 23, then jump again, 31. This should open the door if you end the song on the cloud nearest the door.
I do not suggest hitting 33 on the first cloud after the channel. Just hit 3 again. I was told this before and it took me over 20 tries and I still couldn’t get it. I switched to hitting only 3 and it worked. If you hit 33, your song will be 3332331 and the door won’t open.
Thank you for that explanation. I didn’t realize that’s how songs work, I’ll keep that in mind when using the flute in the future. Do you know when it stops checking for a song so you can redo it? Do you have to just wait a few seconds to reset the song? If so that would explain why sometimes the song works right after the first note, and other times the first note doesn’t seem to matter (because I wait long enough to reset the song).
Jade Quarry
The key here is to not rush yourself. You need to stay on each platform for a second or so, so that by the time the third one is about to collapse the first one is back if you need it. Also if you rush I found it hard to jump really fast while playing the flute. A good rhythm is to queue up 3 as you’re running to the clouds. When you land on the first cloud hit 33 (just to be sure you get the song), then jump, 23, then jump again, 31. This should open the door if you end the song on the cloud nearest the door.
The jumps getting there are easy enough, and it’s close enough to a checkpoint, that you should be able to practice quite a few times without even worrying about the flute just to make sure you get the timing.
It’s for the elite skill of World 2, and what would be the last few hidden rooms if you don’t have trouble with the others. Considering you only have to finish the song to get the door open once and it stays open, I think the difficulty is justified.
Jade Quarry
I don’t really know what you’re asking for either. Some sort of “elite” platform that only those who do very hard jumps can get to, and thus show off while everyone else is afk? Cool I guess, I would prefer the devs spend time making the jumps and platforms in the SAB zones themselves.
My only gripe with the hub is the cannons, or more specifically the flags. I like the cannons, I think it’s a fun little addition but the presence of 4 flags almost screams “do all these for an achievement”. It’s just… weird to me that those 4 flags have nothing to do with anything. I wouldn’t have even thought twice if the flags didn’t exist, it would just be 4 little cloud sections you could launch to. Cool. But the existence of those flags that don’t do anything is just too weird to me. Maybe on the next update since SAB will still be around, who knows. Maybe I’m the weird one.
Jade Quarry
About the icicles, get the flute and learn the song to make them go bye bye
a bit of a chore but worth it definitely.
Aaaaabsolutely. I believe it counts as a hidden room anyways, so just save yourself the trouble and run straight there on Infantile Mode before you worry about anything else regarding 2-3. It makes the zone easier when you’re in those icicle parts, and a significant bit faster as you shave quite a few minutes off that last puzzle. It’s also great in TM.
Every time I enter a room with icicles on the ceiling, I play the song a few times and then boom I’ve got plenty of room to maneuver.
Jade Quarry
Thanks for the transparency in what you guys are planning, I appreciate it.
I main an Engineer, I think somewhere around 1500 of 1700 hours I have in the game are on an Engi. With that said I would love to see turrets and gadgets brought up to the level of kits and elixirs. Some work has been done recently for them, and turrets attacking our target helps a little, but I still feel that elixirs and kits are so much better than gadgets and turrets. Especially now that you’ve changed Toss E and S.
I also appreciate the idea of improving toolbelt skills, they’re pretty lackluster compared to other profession mechanics. I hope that the two Toss elixir skills aren’t the only ones you guys worked on, most toolbelt skills don’t have much “oomph” to them.
Jade Quarry
This thread, so dramatic.
Remember school has started.
Jade Quarry
If the attack duration bugs aren’t fixed with turrets, these changes won’t put turrets where they need to be. If the bugs are fixed and they attack with the right durations, and all overcharges work (I still think they need to be instant), I think I would run turrets.
Nearly doubling their health and making them attack the right stuff is going to be pretty cool if this goes through.

I think your premise that you can “chip away” at TM is wrong. Many players simply don’t have the timing and/or coordination to make some of the required jumps.
I also think it’s pretty silly to say giving up and leaving because you can’t do it isn’t failing. Of course it is! You gave up, you can’t do it, you failed. Just because you choose to leave doesn’t make it any less of a failure compared to someone who ran out of lives.
You’re giving the ICC special powers that it doesn’t actually have.

It makes sense that it would put unfair pressure on the other devs to be extremely active on the forums. For that reason alone I understand. I’ll miss the interaction and I wish all devs could do that, but that’s not realistic and I understand.
Back on topic, anyone try it after the patch late tonight?
Not realistic? Who says? Why are you willing to settle on no interaction with a company you are sending money to?
Please don’t put words into my mouth. I don’t think it’s realistic because I’ve never heard of a game where all the developers spend hours every day posting on the forums. It was great while it lasted, but to me it’s definitely the exception rather than the rule. I’m going to leave it at that because I don’t think we should be this far off topic, especially discussing Arenanet’s employee policies.
I’ve pretty much come to the conclusion it’s a bug, either a miscount of the baubles, or a bauble exists somewhere we can’t possibly get to. I’m confident that at this point between all of us there is no inch of this zone untouched. They don’t always put all bug fixes on patch notes so did anyone get a chance to try this again after the small patch we got tonight? I still put my money on a fix with the 17th patch, but who knows maybe it slipped in there.

Keep moving forward. There are two parts you can rest and avoid bouncers, you don’t have to do the whole hallway in one go. You can dodge against the wall at the last part to not move anywhere but still evade all the rocks, giving you plenty of time to jump down to checkpoint. Here are my notes for that part.
Can rest on the tree (left side avoids previous bouncer) and two jumps after on the horizontal platform (left side). When jumping from the horizontal platform, jump straight up to the second ledge on the right (don’t use two jumps to get there) then as fast as you can down to the two lower trees. Dodge into the wall or a dodge jump helps avoid the rock bounce. Spikes on the right wall at the checkpoint.
Jade Quarry
Don’t have access to main desktop that GW2 is on right now, but I’ve finished the Tribulation category without using a single guide. I solved every zone by myself, which made it way funner to play than consulting a guide and memorizing trap placements. It’s especially satisfying when you look at a path and think, “Yknow, it looks like Anet wants me to go there. So you know what? Nope.” I managed to avoid so many traps that way that I would later find out I had successfully predicted.
Totally agree. It’s funny that by the time you reach World 2 you’re pretty much inside Josh’s mind and you know where a lot of the traps are going to be.
Jade Quarry
Yeah…. no. I’m all for a TM meta achievement title (surprising we didn’t get one after a dev said it was more or less an oversight for doing hard mode Liadri), but this just isn’t a good idea in a game mode where you’re meant to die. Repeatedly.

Color me surprised. I get it though, and it makes sense. Thanks for sharing.
Still doesn’t explain why Vince (for example, the other other dev I’ve noticed as active in this sub forum) couldn’t give us a heads up about it. Nothing you linked says somehow devs aren’t allowed to interact with us at all. I’m sure it’s encouraged when time permits (which is enforced by what you shared). I think they’re just busy, but hey it wouldn’t take long to just say they’re looking into it. Who knows.
Since they read pretty much all of the forums I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some more fixes added on for the big patch on the 17th. We know SAB is here until the end of the month, so it doesn’t really need to happen before then.

near end boss trampoline jump TM W2-Z2
in Super Adventure Box: Back to School
Posted by: Adamantium.3682
I made that long diagonal jump (if I’m thinking of the same one you guys are) about 1/3 of the time I tried it, but then I found you can just jump down to a lower platform before that eliminating the need for that long jump. Here are my notes for that section, I pasted in another thread but this might help if that diagonal jump is proving nearly impossible to some due to latency. This route also doesn’t require any perfect trampoline jumps if I remember right.
First platform has spikes. From trampoline go past red barrel to platform beyond it. Jump up two platforms. Jump down to second platform on the left, then straight to trampoline. After that trampoline, you reach another platform then another trampoline. Land on closest platform. Jump to platform just right of the cloud. Jump to cloud (breaks) then last platform. Run down the left side of the clouds to the balloon pump and checkpoint cloud.
Go up to the mountain by the left side. Skirt around the right side, around the corner up to the checkpoint.

Would be nice if Josh could tell us if it’s bugged, or if we simply overlooked a bauble.
He would if he could as would a lot of other devs. Their hands are tied unfortunately.
How? He’s communicated numerous times on this forum about all aspects of the SAB, including bugs and suggestions on how to get certain achievements. Devs also ask constantly when we say we found what could be a bug, where it was, they’ll look into it, etc. Why would he not be reply here?
My guess is that he’s busy, I doubt he’s sitting at his desk wanting to tell us all that it’s bugged or he’s looking into it but he’s not allowed to.
Jade Quarry
Are you talking Tribulation or Normal Mode? For NM the spikes are no different than the poison water in World 1, your health ticks away but you have plenty of time to run through sections if you need to. I don’t see how this adds anything that didn’t already exist.
The slippery ice absolutely, that is bump up in difficulty level but when you can just run through certain sections of the spikes on the ice (and drink potions while you do) I don’t really see an unmanageable difficulty increase here. I think there is plenty of room for Worlds 3 and 4 to ramp up in difficulty without becoming impossible for most players.

I love this thread and the idea of the clouds being “taken by whatever it was trying to warn me about”. Hilarious!
It is just a visual bug though, sounds like Sera is right and you saw a checkpoint exclusive to Tribulation Mode.
Jade Quarry
1-1: Least favorite level, way too much focus on traps and not enough on jumping. I understand why it has to be this way (the level is extremely easy otherwise) but I didn’t care for it much.
1-2: Much more fun. Some challenging jumps in here.
1-3: My favorite World 1 TM. While there are a good amount of traps in the trees, I thought jumping across branches and around leaves combined with the monkeys insta death poison was pretty fun. I really like the King Toad fight in TM.
2-1: Easiest TM level. It could honestly use a few more traps I felt it was almost too straight forward.
2-2: I liked this one a lot. I feel like this zone loans itself more to a TM level than any other mode, it’s just designed to fit in really nicely with what TM does. It didn’t take me nearly as long as I thought it would (using normal mode as a reference). Lots of weird paths across ledges and trees, and some pretty tough jumps.
2-3: By FAR my favorite, as it is in normal mode. This zone has the most pure platforming of any TM zone, and I also really like the slippery ice in platform games. Most of this in TM was pretty challenging jumps, and I really like the places where the shock clouds show up. It was also great fun to take the routes across ledges and over trees, ways I didn’t even know you could progress. Storm Wizard fight was meh, but the rest of the zone was great platforming.
Jade Quarry
I’m sorry you’re having trouble with your latency. I have found that trampolines are easiest for me when I bounce on them a few times to make sure I am only going up and down, not sideways at all, then when I’m ready to move to where I need to I press forward right when I land after I have it all lined up.
I took notes for every zone so I didn’t have to memorize it all for extra coins and I could help guildies quicker. Here is what I have for that area, maybe it will help eliminate a longer jump you’re trying to make. Good luck.
Jade Quarry
To be clear once again: dodge jump is never required. If you find yourself in a spot that is too far to jump without a dodge jump, another way is possible. The most frustrating part about those trampolines to me was just finding where all the spikes were. Once I figured out which ones were safe and which weren’t I just wrote it down. There are no long jumps in that part.
Hope this helps, find another path if you’re struggling with dodge jumping.
Jade Quarry

I’ve watched LP’s, these people aren’t having fun, they are beating the game to say they beat it and nothing else.
I disagree with this on principle. Who are you to say that “beating the game to say they beat it” is not fun for some people? It may not be fun to you, but it sounds like Tribulation Mode was clearly not designed for players like you. That’s okay. Just move on and let those who do enjoy it have their fun. Why do you have to denounce it?
I’ll give you an example: have you ever played Metro 2033 at maximum difficulty? Well there is a point where you have to go trough a corridor full of mobs with a NPC, if the NPC die, you loose.
The best way to do this is just run the kitten out of there.
It’ really, really, really easy.
But when you reach the safe zone you notice that, wait NPC is fithing the mobs and get ista kitten d. Game Over, try again.
So this point become one of the hardest in the game, not because was designed so but because the IA gets buggy, you are no longer fightning the game, you are fightning the stupid bad programmed IA.Tribulation is the same thing, just made on purpouse.
This proves how Arena Net isn’t able to get real difficulty in jumping puzzles without using the engine’s flaws. That shoudn’t be allowed, nor by players, nor by programmers, because if you thing to something like Ninja Gaiden and compare it to Tribulation you’re insulting Ninja Gaiden.
Ninja Gaiden is tough, but it’s fair, you’ll never lose because “Oh what the kitten fake ground? How could i possibly know?!” in Ninja Gaiden you lose because “Oh man, i should have dodged that, i should have parry that” etc-This is why tribulation mode is bad, not because it is “hard” which is not, as i previously said hard means it takes skill to beat, tribulation requires trial and error and metagaming, but because it used the engine flaw’s against the player.
Again I ask who are you to say what is fun for other players? This content is clearly not for you, but many people out there like the style of Tribulation Mode. You can stay away from it, they can enjoy it. Win-win I would think.

Polar Bears are easy enough to dodge around while killing them. I kinda agree with the OP, once you have your weapon upgraded, the whip is mostly useless.
There are a few places where you’re very close to more than one polar bear, and dodging around on the ice usually isn’t a good idea. Some polar bears you can take out from range or easily avoid their attacks, but others you do have to get close to them which is difficult without the whip IMO.
Also whip = easy raft achievement.

Tribulation Honeycomb W1Z3 - Need help!
in Super Adventure Box: Back to School
Posted by: Adamantium.3682
This really isn’t that difficult…
The third obvious platform is a fake out. Walk to the edge of the second platform and look around the corner to the right, you will see the edge of a platform. Do a corner jump to it.
From there look down the left intersection. Jump to that platform as well. Now, when you turn left again that is the same fake platform as before. But directly under the corner is a pillar you can jump to. Don’t go to far. From there just follow the only available path.
You don’t want to go straight where the fake platform is anyway, cause that’s not the correct path to reach the honeycomb. It’s a dead end.
