I don’t think you should be using Celestial gear at all if you want to do decent condition damage. Hybrids are great and all, but Celestial really gives you hardly anything in condition damage so it doesn’t sound like it would fit your needs.
In fact I have been running hybrid lately (1550 power, 1100 condition damage, 50% crit) and love it, I didn’t at all think I would. I had been running a ton of pure condition damage (~2000) before this but I just feel conditions have too many weaknesses to dedicate your build to completely. With my current hybrid build I am not hitting like a wet noodle against environmental objects and bosses that cleans conditions often, but I also have bleeds that tick at 100 with no might stacks.
So with that said, I’m totally in favor of spreading around your damage stats a bit, but again I don’t think Celestial is the way to do it if you want any decent amount of condition damage.
EDIT: I like what Imaginary posted above me. I would prefer just a bit more condition damage myself, but using those runes definitely help out the loss of condition damage one would normally have with full Celestial. Did they ever fix Giver’s gear? I remember the condition duration not working before.

Dragon Ball was inherently flawed to me because the first person (or team) to get the first few kills ended up being able to get all the power ups pretty easily while the other team had nothing. The more you killed, the stronger you became. If you died, the weaker you became. That’s terrible balance. I think they did much better with Aspect Arena.
Jade Quarry
I wanted to show some love to Anet for the minigames. They’re great! I was hooked on Aspect Arena for hours after just wanting to try it out once or twice, and Southsun Survival is great (frustrating at times, which is part of the charm I think). AA especially is mostly balanced and combat is slower, allowing you to actually react rather than the stupid 1 shot stuff that Dragon Ball was.
After a disappointing Dragon Ball, fun but not very replayable Sanctum Sprint, and what I thought was a pretty boring Crab Toss, I wanted to say I thought this was spot on. I hope we see more games that are put together like this in the future! While I can certainly understand they may not be everyone’s cup of tea, I actually feel like they were put together very well this time, rather than some of those I have mentioned from the past. Games are fair, and the replayability is high.
They’re not without their flaws for sure, especially the way points are counted in Survival, but overall the games are very fun and I can’t help but stay up past my bedtime playing them!

I use a Razer Naga Molten, but as that would be too many buttons for what you asked I suggest the Razer Naga Hex. I’ve never used one, but I assume it’s just as great as the regular Naga with just 6 side buttons instead of 12.
I do like the regular Naga, so if the Hex is just as good I would look into it.

The mail I received with my Kite said Thank you for continuing to support the game, we appreciate it.
I appreciate that more than the kite and I love my kite.
Yep, it made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I try to buy gems with cash every couple months, not much but just something to show I enjoy the game. It feels really nice to see that they appreciate it. I may be another faceless customer that doesn’t really matter in the long term success of the game, but they made me feel that I really do matter just by a small gesture.
I can just imagine if they do put a notice out “buy gems get a free ____”… how many people would complain the _ isn’t what they thought it would be or what they really wanted?
Jade Quarry
This was a very nice and unexpected gift, Anet. Thanks! I really respond to and appreciate gestures like this. It was nice to show your appreciation for the loyalty of your customers.
Unfortunately there are always those who can think of nothing but themselves. It’s sad, really. Anet thought it was a nice gesture to give some people who recently spent money to support their game a gift. A useless, yet fun, gift. But some people are worried that if this becomes a trend they might miss out on something they think is really cool? How selfish can you get? Nevermind that this kite will be available in the gem store where you could gasp spend some real money to buy it, it’s just astonishing how some people here can really be that selfish.
Anet, thank you. I hope you ignore people that are actually turning this into anything but a nice thing you didn’t have to do for some of your customers.

Well by the very nature of the goal it isn’t a PvE goal at all.
You have to face the threat of PvP to get it, You may have to fight players to get it, the developers specifically said that “It is absolutely intended that you can fight people in the JP.”, and you have to zone into a PvP enabled zone to complete it.
There is no PvE section of the achievements panel because there are no “PvE Achievements”. There are General and Living world achievements all of which can be gained in multiple areas of the game and some of which (in Living worlds case) that absolutely require PvP like the racing achievements. Only the PvP, WvW, and dungeon achievements are specific to a game type.
In other words this is not a PvE achievement, It was never meant to be a PvE achievement and the devs do not want it to be a PvE achievement. Just like it’s not a PvP achievement or a fractal achievement. You have to go everywhere! That is the whole point to make an achievement that makes people participate in multiple parts of the game to gain it.
This is the best post in this thread (including a couple of my own!). I don’t know where people are getting the idea that this is a PvE achievement, Anet has never said that and there’s surely no such thing as a PvE achievement section in the achievement panel.
Jade Quarry
It’s technically a violation, but they rarely, if ever, ban for it. I’ve never heard of someone getting banned for macro use outside of looping a macro to bot. Many people use macros to open bags.
You’re probably right but on the off chance they did want to suspend/ban my account there would be nothing I could do since they would be right to. I wouldn’t take that risk over 35 more achievement points.

My first thought of reading the title:
Lol, somewhat related as I have one with cherry switches. In that way my keyboard already clicks for me.
Jade Quarry
It’s illegal.
It ticks the boxes on:
- Allowing you to play when you’re not on your computer
- Allowing you to gain undeserved rewards (the achievement)
- Gives you multiple actions per single keystroke
Quote from the topic that you linked:
You cannot program an “auto-clicker” macro that, for instance, opens chests while you play elsewhere.
1) I disagree. I have to keep moving the mouse to use the different stacks of drinks. I can’t go anywhere.
2) I’m pretty sure if I spend 700,000 karma and sit and my computer going through all the drinks I deserved it. I just don’t think my hand deserves the agony.
3) This one I agree with. I had misread the section this was in, thinking it only applied to multiboxing.
The quote I don’t believe applies to this situation either. I am doing nothing else, it’s not allowing me to gain an advantage or do something I couldn’t otherwise do, and I’m certainly not playing elsewhere.
Unfortunately for me any of these are enough and I agree that #3 probably disallows this. Thanks for the clarifications. At best I will have to enable “Ease of Access” to make the mouse button become ‘numpad +’ and just smack the heck out of that thing.

Hello, I have a question maybe I could get an official response to or if everyone else comes to a consensus that’s great too. Now that achievement points are so beneficial, it seems everyone is trying to squeeze every last bit they can out of them. I want to get the thirst slayer achievement. This requires 100,000 drinks, or just 25,000 if you buy the drinks that cost 28 karma each. This also requires a LOT of clicking.
I have read Anet’s stance on macros, and the recent replies in the AOE auto loot macro thread for WvW. I understand why that would not be allowed, but my question seems to not be 100% the same. I have a keyboard that can do simple macros. I want to set up a macro that just clicks over and over again so I can buy all these drinks, and then drink them while saving my hand some serious cramping. It doesn’t let me buy them any faster than I normally could. I would still be at my computer since I have to move the mouse around to go from stack to stack. I just want to set up a macro to have my keyboard do the tens of thousands of clicks for me.
What do you think? Illegal or okay? I think I can correctly answer “no” to the questions here, but I want a second opinion because Anet takes bot-like behavior seriously, and so do I.

I got mine a couple days ago. This is a good thread, I will use it to thank those mostly SoR and some BG that didn’t attack me and my group of friends that went to get the kite. I had tried a few times fighting and didn’t make it, it was nice (and unexpected in a PvP zone) to have an easy run.

The helm is 9k because of this very post (rather, the idea of it). Of course that’s what a lot of people really want. They aren’t going to make the best reward first.
“I think the helm is coolest, I want it first”. Well… duh. A lot of people think it’s coolest, and apparently so does Anet so you have to work for it.

It’s interesting to see how some people act about the WvW Sanctum Kite…compared to the Sanctum Sprint. One group has people that actively prevent people from getting an achievement, while the other has people that try to help others get the achievement/title.
Very interesting.
And both have tons of people complaining about it! If that isn’t a narrative on the mindset of today’s gamer I don’t know what is.
Jade Quarry
I’m not sure that this would be good at all, you can only make so many stats useful at one time. I feel like the stats you’re actually using would be lower than if you built for them.
The only kind of build I could think of off the top of my head is a healing heavy bomb type build (10/0/30/20/0 to start with, Elixir Infused Bombs). Something that actively uses Healing Power a lot, Power/Precision/Crit Damage all being used by bombs, Condition Damage a bit by bombs as well, could slot Elixir Gun too for Condition Damage/Power/Healing Power use. Toughness/Vitality obviously helps with the tankiness. Not sure it’s something I would want to do, but it is a type of build that would use every stat which is the only thing I would consider using Celestial stats. Otherwise you’re just wasting something.

Cool! Anet just gave me 2 gold for free!
Omg! I can’t afford 1.4s each time I die!
-_-
i got 2 gold total from 2 chests today – burned through it in about an hour cause of my bad skills. i would like both wps free, since this is probably going to be TEMPORARY CONTENT. if it was to stay, change it back to pay, but for now i think that waypoints should be free.
I’m going to have to call you on this. You would have to die 143 times before making it to the top on a level 80 character. A low level character (which you should be on if this is that big of an issue for you) would be significantly more, upwards of 500.
There are ways to make this not an issue described in this thread multiple times: store your gold elsewhere or just make a low level character. You are refusing to fix the situation but continuing to complain about it.

I totally understand and agree with this system for a PvP game, but in Sanctum Sprint if you are quick to the top you often have more than 2 minutes of waiting to do. You aren’t really able to go away from keyboard in that time or else you will be kicked and have to go through a game of joining last place before you can play again. Please remove this a-f-k check, or at least increase it to something like 3 minutes!

I feel sorry for new players that are low lvl who get bumped to 80 for this place and die alot and have to pay that 1 silver per WP. It’s not so bad for those of us at 80 who can make cash for this but think of those low lvls……
Also a jump puzzle disguised as a new living story, really? Lol….
You should bring a low level if you’re that concerned because waypoints are really cheap for them. They definitely will not go broke.
Not tried but I have a feeling everyone is boosted to 80 which is exactly my point….
Boosted to 80 you still use your own level for waypoint costs I just tried it.

If you’re looking at Dulfy’s guide, she acknowledges the following:
“A whole selection of Zenith weapon skins will be available, not just the five shown below. You can pick only one skin to unlock per achievement chest. "
I hope that puts your mind at ease!
I’m just going by the achievement panel itself, it only shows 5. I hope you’re right though, it wouldn’t make sense otherwise. If we can only unlock 1 per 1000 AP I would think we could at least choose any weapon at each 1000 AP and not be further limited.

So am I seeing it right that, at least to 2500 AP, there is nothing Engis can use? Really???
But let’s make sure all the Warriors can have their greatsword. Wee.
Last I heard, Engies can use rifles, pistols, and shields
Rifle, pistol, and shields are not shown for the reward choices on the 1k or 2k chest is what I’m getting at. If they are but just not shown that’s awesome but doesn’t look that way.
Jade Quarry
I would love to see this. But consider the reasons for them not to be free.
If you have just 500 AP on your account (very likely even for new players) you get 1 gold for free. That will cover 71 deaths without dipping into anything you had before this update.
As much as I would love to see them be free and I completely agree it would be awesome, no one is going broke from this so let’s tone down the melodramatics.

I don’t buy the “players need to see what we are using”. I do think that is a big focus in GW2, but it’s just unnecessary to put a giant ugly backpack on our back to accomplish this. It could easily be a buff just like Eles get with the icon of the kit we are currently in. I don’t even think that’s needed, but if that’s what needs to be done that’s great.
To give the benefit of the doubt I’ll assume the big problem is not with Flamethrower, but with kits like Grenades, Bombs, and maybe Tool Kit. What really cracks me up is that there are players out there who honestly claim that the backpack for any of those kits alerts them to what it is before any skills are used. That’s just nonsensical.
The backpacks aren’t telling players anything they don’t already know, and in most cases I’m willing to bet if you showed just the backpacks to random players over half of them couldn’t even identify which kit they go to.

Even if the cast time itself is fast, the effect isn’t instant – it all depends on how much hp the downed person has got. Also, the other skills either are more versatile (the elementalist’s one) or are also signets (so there must be some heavy cost there). Aside from Illusion of Life, that is fast as well, but there is a drawback there too.
Also, it can be countered by control effects (or launch when the target is downed). Well, even a projectile block can work, technically speaking.
They are simply different, just that.
Right, the usefulness of Toss Elixir R depends on the Engineer. If you react very quickly to a teammate going down (having them call it out when you’re equipped with this helps) you have a much better chance of reviving them. If they have been down awhile and are at low health it’s unlikely you get them all the way to full.
Maybe just making it instant again would be enough.
Jade Quarry
Here’s mine! Some of you have made me consider buying the Aetherblade skins, I thought it looked bad but some of the mixes y’all have done along with the colors make it look great. Especially yours bristle, red+yellow looks fantastic (minus the COF but to each their own)

I take back what I said about the Toss Elixir R. Giving the rest of the profession revives a hard look and really comparing pros and cons of each, the Engineer comes out near the top. I think the one thing I overlooked most was cast time. Other professions are in the range of 3-5s for a revive. We’re at a quick 3/4, ranged, and AOE (albeit a small one you likely won’t get more than one person).
Elixir R itself is still bad to me, but if you need people to stay alive I think it’s definitely worth taking if only for the Toss. I’m not sure what else they could do to Elixir R to make it better, removing the cast time might be enough but man that stun break was nice. I’m thinking Stability would be OP (no stun break so you can’t use it while stunned), though we have no other reliable method of obtaining stability (and this one wouldn’t be AOE) so a short 3s or so could be nice. What else do you think could or should be done for Elixir R itself? Is it fine how it is or would you adjust it somehow that I haven’t thought of?
Jade Quarry
Are you using a Might stacking build? If you are not stacking Might otherwise (and thus getting much more mileage out of your Runes of Might) I would stick with Ruby Orbs between these two options. That’s not to say I think the Runes of Strength are bad, but if you’re only using them for blast finishers and not for a full on Might stacking build… I think you’d get more mileage from Ruby Orbs.
Jade Quarry
Have turrets ever worked properly? Meaning all traits and overcharges work how they should? I didn’t think so.
Turrets don’t need to just be fixed, they need a complete rework. Go back to the drawing board. We can start with getting what Necros got in the latest patch: Rigor Mortis: This ability is now instant. For those that don’t know, this is a skill they get when they summon a minion (Bone Fiend specifically). It is very much analogous to an overcharge, giving the minion a more powerful ability than they normally use. Our turret overcharges need to be instant as well so that we can actually use them as reactionary skills. Guardian spirit weapon skills are instant, at least this Necro minion skill is instant, and ours should be as well. An Engineer who wishes to macro should be able get extra damage out of their turrets by overcharging just after they fired a normal attack.
This is just one of many things that needs to be done to completely rework turrets IMO. Also change something about how the toolbelt skills work. Giving a stun break but only when the turret is not up? That’s not really that conducive to a turret build if you have to explode one of your best, highest health, longest cooldown turrets just to get a stun break. Trait consolidation is another big one with turrets in 3 separate trait lines requiring 60 of our 70 points just to access them all (could make room to add a trait to make the turrets follow us around). Bugs have been being fixed, new bugs have been introduced, and we’ve been on that vicious cycle since launch. I think it just has to be reworked completely, change the mechanics on turrets entirely.
After every time turrets get some kind of attention I try to go make a turret build but it just never competes with other builds using kits, elixirs, or even gadgets now (this is good, those are all pretty even only turrets are lagging behind I think). What do you guys think? Am I just a turret noob or would you like to see a rework of this part of the Engineer as well?

1. Freeze Grenade is the other grenade that does more damage than #1, so rotate that one in as well. #3 and #5 are situational for me because they don’t do a lot of damage but add some other utility, but #2/4 are used whenever available.
2. You need HGH and Might duration gear. You need to get Might when you crit from sigil, and 6 Runes of Strength. Might stacking is not about quantity necessarily, there’s a hard cap on how much is possible. Might stacking is really about getting the Might you do have last as long as possible so it starts stacking on itself after a little bit.
3. Yes it does when you get into good rotations (and not wasting most of a fight stacking). It has its limits in PvP because of recent changes and what other professions can do to your boons (especially when they see you rely on Might), but since this is a PvE thread there’s not much downside. Only thing I can think of is when another profession in the group is built to give group Might; one of you is wasting something. Also, if you find it boring you can still be good with other builds which is what I do.

I also love the cooldown traits (especially when they do more than just 1 thing) but definitely try Sitting Duck. Just playing around with it tonight, Net Shot + Glue Bomb are crazy good with it even if you don’t use the Net Turret. In PvP it’s just a no brainer if you’re slotting Net Turret.
I won’t presume to know or correct your rotations by any means, but with 3 relatively main weapons in this build I think you could afford to have a bit slower EG. Try Sitting Duck and you won’t go back lol.
EDIT: Looks like Sitting Duck has the all dreaded internal cooldown. With my testing it looks like 5 seconds. Chaining Immobilize won’t stack the Vulnerability, but if you’re careful to spread your Immobilizes by a few seconds you should be fine.

I have over 1200 hours on my Engi, and this is the first time in a long time I’ve read a build guide that has taught me something. Bravo sir, I enjoyed reading this.
Question: You have Firearms VIII as a trait. This is now Juggernaut and I’m having trouble remembering what it was before. I know it wasn’t Sitting Duck, but I bet that would be just fantastic with this build. Net Shot, Net Turret, Glue Bomb??? Wow! Do the Firearm trait changes affect how you would distribute points in this build?

The problem I see with going conditions on a P/S is that you will have problems keeping burn up. You will have no problems with bleeds and poisons. The rocket boot toolbelt is great but without blowtorch from the second pistol to support, it will not be as effective.
It was a concern of mine but it’s not really an issue in PvE because nothing is removing your conditions save boss transitions. In that case just be aware of when you’re applying them. Pre patch I was fine when the trait was only 20% burn duration, and nothing extra from sigils, food, or runes (30% total for my build). Now that my total would be 43% I see no issues at all. You also have perma burning as long as Napalm is up, and nearly 6 seconds every 10 seconds with crits. I also use Air Blast on bosses frequently to extend burn duration, it’s quite nice.
Blowtorch would be nice to be sure, but it’s not necessary in the build I linked to keep burns up. Shield is just too useful for me, though Glue Shot + Sitting Duck would be great for PvE as well.
Jade Quarry
I actually made this for the same reason you are looking for. Generic AOE condition damage. 2k+ Condition Damage so your conditions will stick.
Flamethrower is used as utility, so you’re only in it to use knockback, fire field, or blind. I haven’t looked at it since the update, but with the extra burn duration you could probably change that FT for something else. Or you could forego that trait altogether and grab Speedy Kits that you mentioned wanting.
Jade Quarry
I think cleanses are exactly why this is a good trait. In a condition damage build you want to defend against cleanses as best as possible. Since you can’t really stop people from cleansing, a great way to do that is to make sure that when you reapply conditions they’re as effective as possible. The fact that they cleared a 50s burn is not what matters with this trait. Your conditions are going to get cleared regardless of what you trait. What really matters is the next time you apply it after the cleanse it ticks as long as possible, giving you more damage. Even if they have a second cleanse or whatever, the point is at some point the burn is going to stick for awhile and you want to make sure that it sticks as long as possible when it does.
Good trait? Yes. Grandmaster though? No, I’ll agree with that.
Jade Quarry
You know, I typed out this long response that detailed all the things Elixir R still does alongside the rez function, and all these possible scenarios, but I realize that truthfully, I’ve been around since release, and I’ve seen these responses on the forums time and time again, I’ve seen constant “Engie is useless now” comments and we always come right back towards the top of the meta, usually WITHIN the timeframe of the very patch that supposedly “breaks us”, just because of the people who don’t let a simple nerf dictate their disposition on the profession.
…
You should check my post history before you make assumptions and exaggerations. I’m on your side. I’ve never thought the Engineer was broken, and never considered quitting over any patch. The Engineer is very powerful and I have constantly told people on these forums we’re not broken. I’m only responding to this thread, and this particular skill which I don’t think is good anymore.
You can’t really be citing condition removal as a reason to slot this, can you? 1 condition every 2 minutes? It’s negligible at best. Putting that in the “pro” column but leaving out how the skill ticks in the “con” column? That’s not an honest argument.
Jade Quarry
It was never a 3s channel.
It was if you bugged it out by firing off another skill before the 2s duration expired.
Jade Quarry
What other rez in the game can you execute from 1200 distance, rez more than one person if they are within 180 radius, and do all over again when your character reaches 25% life via trait, or choose to rez yourself while removing conditions?
Most people tend to only think of things are useful in terms of how they benefit on a personal level, which is why you see such hate about our downed state, since it’s obviously a team-oriented one, not a self oriented one, like a Ranger’s. It’s the most versatile rez ability in the game.
I have never had that much success with it. Since it’s a pulse and not an instant revive, most of the time for me it gets the targets close to reviving but doesn’t actually work. They are taking damage. That damage prevents them from reviving themselves even just a little bit, so they don’t actually get revived and I just blew a cooldown. Thus regardless of how many times it resets, how frequently I can use it, from how far away, or how many targets, it has rarely done more than disappoint me. The stun *R*emoval (how ironic) — and by extension the instant use — was the best part of the skill to me.
On the flip side I have never been disappointed when I need a revive from a Warrior, Necro, Ele, or Guardian. If they use the skill, I’m getting revived. Period. None of this “well I hope I’m not actually being hit by anything” as is present with Elixir R. Which is ironic because for Elixir R to work you have to pretty much be in a state where you could just use Bandage to revive yourself eventually.
Jade Quarry
Wait… best rez in the game??? Have you tried other rezzes? Elixir R will often not even fully revive you (or a teammate) if you are taking any significant amount of damage. Which you probably are or… why are you downed?
Jade Quarry
I feel like your bias is still showing. This whole hypothetical situation was against a melee combatant, but now he’s kiting us away from our own returning shield? How is a melee attacker kiting a ranged attacker? As for the .75s activation time, I don’t see that as an issue because you’re using it to get another 1s daze and a probable 1s daze again afterwards.
Also just a quick note: while it may be bugged right now and not returning at all in some cases, the shield most certainly does not return in a straight line. It returns to you. If you move, you can alter the path of the returning shield. This was the premise of my whole point about being able to manipulate it to either hit the melee attacker or making him move away, buying you some time either way.
At this point I’m fine with just disagreeing with you. I feel that you do have some good points, and I don’t think the new shield is better in every way imaginable, but I do feel that you have a bias against it that isn’t letting you form new opinions very fairly.
Jade Quarry
(edited by Adamantium.3682)
Because throw shield has a 0.75s activation time. If you throw it this way instead of acting while they are stunned, you’re basically trading a 1s stun for a 1s daze + some damage. Since while dazed they can move, the second hit can be easily avoided – it travels on a straight line, after all.
But this made up situation was against a melee right? So you know they have to be next to you to attack, so you can get them directly in the path of the shield coming back. If they dodge away from it, or get out of the path, well that’s also time you’re hitting them and they’re not hitting you so the shield has done a good job of giving you an opening.
I also don’t quite understand how it’s trading 1s stun for 1s daze. You’re being very pessimistic and unfair to the skill. The stun has already happened. By throwing the shield you’re not erasing what stun was already applied. You’re adding onto it. If they broke the stun, you’re still not trading anything because the stun is gone regardless of what you do.
Jade Quarry
Imho, the shield nerf is quite relevant, in practice. Versus single opponents you have a 2s block on a 40s cooldown (32 if traited) instead of 3s blocking. If they’re ranged, you’re blocking less; if they’re melee, you will stun them for 1s instead of 2. You will have to cancel the skill anyway to attack them when they are stunned, though, so the only thing changing here is that you stun them for less time.
This, again, is not giving the new shield #5 skill a fair shot. If you’re fighting one melee attacker, you stun them. I’m with you up until that point. Then you want to attack? Throw the shield instead of cancelling it. Preferably just as they break the initial 1s stun, now they have a daze they likely can’t get out of. Now you’re getting another 1 second of daze and damage, as well as another 1s daze and damage when it comes back.
Why on earth are you just cancelling it to attack them?
Jade Quarry
It converts all conditions to 5 second long boons.
