Needs some skill…

Sometimes -especially in team fights- I drop my current target to GS leap through them then I use my BB immediately. This works fine also in 1v1 against mesmer, MM necro, spirit ranger, etc…

If you can judge the distance (it’s easier since the patch) you can BB-BB pull-WW to death basically anybody.

But this needs:

1, the target is on top many others or relatively far from the teammates and they are close to each others (like MM necro or might-water blasting situation where the prey is outside of the circles). Such way all the blades can hit you first.

2, if a group of players are standing on a top of each others they deserve to die to aoe bombs anyway. Spreading out even in white circles is always a good idea.

But if for example a MM necro decides to DS leap on me and I cast BB and he gets 10k damage… Do not melee a Guardian. Has been said many times

But hell, they will fix the Symbolic Avenger trait, nerf the burning damage all together and give us back the old Burn values with less application time…

Bellamy: yes, this is the solution probably…

I hit the necro with JI+Banish… that could be 4 stacks of Burn straight away… Then I might proc Zealot’s Flame (Radiant Fire trait) and Amplified Wrath… so two more stacks.

That’s six stacks. If every minion applied this on me… OMG that’s 30 burning + the explosions…

Bhawb… If I exaggeriting it must be only slightly (maybe my memories tricked me but I had a friend who was following me since I the Guardian are struggling fighting against the Necro)… And at the time he arrived I was all dead.

But if the minions gave back all the burning (note: that’s 24 stacks at least) and they exploded by the utility command… This pretty much explains it.

I did not kill any minion. My focused target was the Necromancer.

Huh, I just landed like 3-4 stacks of burn on the whole companion… And since I’m in carrion it could hurt a lot (1200 condi damage so like 360 each?)

If I had all the burns back that’s about 1-1,5K damage a sec. Those minions should damage the rest of the 15-18k HP… Or 13-15k if we speak about 2 seconds…

Well If I got hit by an Air sigil too…

I’m still not sure what happened but I rebinded my printscreen… You know just in case

Shiki: are you sure that “Explode Minion” or whatever ability does not show in the log? That could be an answer…

Anyways: sorry for the lack of informations. I know this could be hard to analyse and give a good feedback…

I will give it a go but for me Absolute Resolution and RF or CoP a must. I find myself often in a team fight environment and I cannot see any chance to survive this without at least 6-9 condition cleared. The amount of conditions those newly available pesky condi builds put out is insane!!!

Note: I use a build close to this: Carrion+FlameLegion, meditation… Radiance, Valor, Virtues. Purging Flames, CoP, JI, RF elite.

Hi Necromancer Community!

I would like to ask you how this situation could happened and what can I do next time to avoid it. Please note:

I do not want to call any nerf on this gameplay! Please do not give words into my mouth!

So the story:

I have seen an MM necro (first one I’ve seen since days…) taking our Far on Foefire. I made my way to the point and opened the fight with my regular abilities (Banish+Judge’s Intervention). The poor necro was flying through the air just out of the point. I immobilised him then my plan was to land my Mighty Blow but the tale didn’t get that far. I died instantly.

With a huge Q.Q W.T.F??!! expression on my face I checked the combat log… There wasn’t any individual damage source what was above like 500. Note: My damage log was full from the MM “attacks”. So there might be a huge hit I got but didn’t show up in the log (unfortunately I couldn’t remember my printscreen hotkey so I have no image proof of this). He wasn’t in Lich Form (I’m well aware thet a Lich can two-shot me :S ).

My build is an Asura carrion burn meditation guardian (20k HP and 2500 armour). Trait lines: Radiance, Valor and Virtues. I was on full or nearly full HP.

Can somebody explain me what happened and how can I spot this next time?

2500 armour, 20k HP, nice party support, good access to Fury (party).

You can swap MI for CoP. Now you have an unlimited condi-to-boon ability and 2 medium CD abilities what cleanse 3 conditions from party members too (and you can smite condies off of you with your Shelter).

Pretty good direct AND condition damage through Burn and the Hammer-Mace-Torch4 nukes.

This is not a bunker build! Far from it! It’s a DPS build with a lot of added support. Purging Flames, Feel My Wrath, Fury on Meditation use, Absolute Resolution, Indomitable Courage, Block, Heal, Condition Cleanse and Protection from mace-torch, Protection, Blast Finisher and some CC from the hammer. You have 2 teleports as well.

I give this to you as a sample so you can work on something.

Meditation Guardian is meta for a reason… it’s the only build what is capable to move from point A to B. The rest of the builds are so slow it’s beyond explanation. Sure you have staff+shout builds but they lack the gap closers. So they can get to a point and then die to a kiter. Hell a Shortbow thief can kill a staff/mace+shield warrior ON the point.

Unscatched contender with swiftness… This is my favourite method…

Taunt is a reverse fear with a 0.001 sec Stealth activation from the user. They are not targeted anymore… And this is an unfair advantage over the normal CC effects.

Kicker: yes I did read the OP. Since you made the important lines bold I will answer those:

Taunt is cast by the Pet. You target the Taunter and start moving towards it and autoattack in range. You are able to use an untargeted stunbreak without problem. You can use a targeted stunbreak but since you are “targetlocked” to the taunter (currently the pet) you will use your stunbreak on the pet.

I understand your problem: after the Taunt effect is gone you should be able to attack the ranger immediately but you still targeting the pet. Such way you loose valuable moments which is an extra “control” effect other CC’s don’t have.

So either you should be able to target freely while taunted (and keep attacking the Taunter creature) or after the effect has gone the targeting should switch back to the previous target.

Do I get it right?

“Stay where you are!” crowd control effects:

-Knock down: can be used to secure kills and makes you staying in melee range and in Aoe
-Stun: can be used to secure kills and makes you staying in melee range and in Aoe

“Get off of me!” CC effects:

-Knock back: can be used to knock you off of cliffs, secure stomps, dropping you into Aoe and force you to close the gap again (this effect is faster then the Fear).
-Push: can be used to knock you off of cliffs, secure stomps, dropping you into Aoe and force you to close the gap again (this effect is faster then the Fear).
*Fear: can be used to knock you off of cliffs, secure stomps, dropping you into Aoe, forces you to close the gap again and may does damage.

“Get over here!” CC effects:

-Pull: can be used to close the gap, prevent res, landing AoE (this effect is faster then the Taunt)
*Taunt: can be used to close the gap, prevent res, landing AoE and it forces the taunted to autoattack it’s locked target.

There is a nice pattern in the design of these CC skills. The slower effects namely Fear and Taunt have an added effect. Pull and Push happens instantly while Taunt and Fear have less distance but an additional “side effect”.

Sounds balanced for me.

Note: I’m aware that the Fear damage has to be traited to work otherwise it has similar effectiveness as the knock back.

So either the Taunt “target lock and autoattack” part has to be linked to a trait or the Fear must be buffed (damage without the Necro trait…)

My thoughts….

EDIT: can anybody confirm if the Taunt works on downed players? If it does it also useful to secure stomps so it’s much better then a Pull from it’s category or the Fear from the other group of CC’s.

Taunt is a control effect that forces the affected target to run towards the source of taunt with all skills -except stun breakers- disabled while using their auto-attack skill.

It says nothing about targeting. If I understand this correctly:
1, it’s a fear with a certain point of direction you are heading.
2, it’s a control effect so it’s not affected by condition duration
3, stunbreakers have to be used to get out of it’s effect
4, you cannot target anyone else…

4 must be a bug or should have been added to the tooltip.

I just mentioned this a few days ago: new players have a hard time now. I think you have the same problem. The damage is so huge you have to play 100% yourself for a kill or win.

This is very good! Finally you have to be on your toes and not facerolling the keyboard…

Full zerkers are dying basically instantly if hit. Try to run a different amulette and change some of your traitlines.

I ended up with a semi-defensive amulette and one support trait line instead of full offence because I got killed even if a mesmer was farting towards my general direction (not only mesmers… practically everything but the mesmer is the common public enemy now so why not trolling? ).

Honestly: my only advice is to get better reading your opponent (build-skill, etc..) or just go a bit bunker. You do not have to have 10k DPS to be a good player in PvP. But you have to know your enemies and your build.

p.s.: a 4k DPS bunker who lives for 15 seconds is better than a 10k zerk who dies in 3 seconds…

EDIT: my ps is a complete bullkitten… IF you can live for 15 seconds while sacrificing some damage but enjoying the game go for it! If you do not like the paper play scissors.

YOUR pet taunts so you are not able to select another target… I was surprised aswel, but: Working as intended.

It seems that this ability deselects your current target and makes you targeting the Pet. Solid BM ranger buff in PvP to be honest (it has only 15 sec ICD that is 13% CC uptime in BM spec :O)

Taunt is a gameplay mechanism.
Targeting is a UI mechanism.

It’s something like if you were feared your camera would turn the direction you are running.

Spvp Hybrid build (Looking for Suggestions)

I run a similar build…

FlameLegion runes, hammer or sc+t and GS. (intel/geo on hammer and doom/smoldering on Scepter).
I get Absolute Resolution instead of Supreme.
I still use CoP and Purging at the same time and I did sacrifice Smite Condi. The reason:

I have little trouble fighting power builds. my real troublemakers are still the kiter condi/hybrid builds. 20+k HP helps a lot but the ability to reset their condibomb (and converting it into boons) AND then party cleanse 3 condi with Absolute Resolution AND than cleanse 3 of them with -33% duration AND then Smite/heal one more off…

I think CoP is superior to the Smite now.
Absolute Resolution got nerfed but the baseline Purging Flames is extremely usefull. Using these two together is a massive party support.

I did a few round yesterday and I can tell you the damage is insane.

My build was a true hybrid:

Rad/Val/Vir with Absolute Res and all the burn traits.

Carrion ammy, FlameLegion runes. Purging Flames and the usual medi utilities.

Sc+torch (doom/smoldering) / Hammer(intelligence/air).

Party support-condi and direct damage all in one

SlayerSixx: you are right the GH trait is almost never considered if you (we) take Virtues. AR is far superior.

But if you play for being a +1 mostly (with sw or sc focus and hammer) than you are a nice welcome to that fight. I think a Hammer-wielding Guardian with FeelMyWrath is like a rabid dog… You know it goes for the throat and if you do not shoot it down within seconds you going to die…

Pairing it with GS or staff is a very big NO however…

I really appreciate your work!

But you seem a bit biased towards the extremes… If a build is not good in support OR not good in offence you downgrade it…

my examples:

Valor: -AH is still a very good trait in WvW or in pvp if you are a bunker
Honor: Writ of Persistence… you only need two trait lines to MAX out the area effect of the symbols… It will be a king in sPvP. Guardians had loads of area denial skills but these are no-brainer… If you want somebody out? Lay a symbol…
Virtues: I admit: absolute res is an excellent party support… But what about the far pushers? They can take Glacial or Supreme and be more effective.
Courage trait: sure! it is the best one for (again) support. If you are a DPS then Permeating Wrath all the way…

Sorry to say this but I think you have a kind of tunnel-vision… Not a problem, I have the same…

You are right that spirit weapons and retaliation traits won’t work…

…at all!!

Keep up the theorycrafting ’cos you do it well!

I agree with the OP. Someone or something should tell the newcomers that full zerk without a tiny bit of knowledge means Dead Newcomer.

Until rank 10 you should be only matched against rank 10 or lower with tutorials popping out and with 50% gear stat reduction… Also treb and NPC’s should have lesser damage in these levels.

Anyways I would not suggest a zerker gear for any beginner… Barbarian, Knight, etc… all better…

Dear ANET marketing section!

Just give 10 dollars discount for existing players. You may loose 20% of the income but if 21% more player will buy the game you are already in a winner position. Not to mention that a veteran player is more likely to buy some gems than a newcomer.

You have all your statistics. Figure it out how much a veteran pays for you in average and how much a new customer does.

I will buy the ultimate for two accounts but as I said I boycott the purchase right now…

Guardians have many tools to engage and somewhere between zero and nil to disengage.

By popping your shield4… who the hell are you trying to keep alive? The warriors? Guess what? A warrior is going to engage AFTER a guardian is there. And the Warrior is the first one to get the NIKE.

Be serious please! Warriors are meant to do the damage after the guardians established the frontline…

I fully understand that they give the GW2 and HOT together so everybody’s friend can play together… Nice!

Why don’t they give the veterans rewards is beyond my understanding… A free char slot, a title and some extra XP-WXP boosters AT LEAST?

How can I play the Revenant without a free slot? Do you want to FORCE me to spend another 8 pounds on gems only to play what I have bought?

Getting the new players is always a good thing… for ANET and for us players too… But currently a new starter gets:

-GW2
-HoT expansion
-5 character slots
-the Revenant profession
-a 20 slot bag
-a bank tab
-a mini
-an unique skin
-a crapload of XP and WXP boosters
-a guild recommendation letter

For exactly the same money as I pay!

And I get:

Huh guys I know you are busy as hell because the upcoming expansion, I appreciate your work, really!

It’s OK that you realised that you missed the shield buff. Thumbs up!

But if you think that a few seconds of CD reduction would solve the problems the shield has… It’s only a proof that you have NO FREAKIN’ IDEA what is wrong with it!

In the past few years we already gave you 2547 (count it if you don’t believe me!) different ideas how to make it remotely useful. Pick one and feel free to restore the CD!

“If no ally is present in the targeted area, this ability will not heal.” But ANET clarified this. Anyway I do not think the aforementioned port should be a Meditation skill. Other builds need more mobility than the meta medi build…

The former on-block trait would have played a purpose to punish rapid burst abilities like Blurred, RapidFire, PistolWhip, 100blades. You know like they actually HAVE to cancel it otherwise got kitten d.

Now they going to smile at you with a stupid face because you wasted a block for 5sec of burning what does less than 1k damage (non-condi) and rewards you with something like 2-3 stacks 15sec of Might. 2-3 seconds are wasted while in the block-animation.

I agree that meditation guardians do not need +25% speed trait but the rest of the builds would kill for such. Put it into the Valor trait line as a minor/major so it competes with MediMastery or FocusedMind ( I cannot tell you where these traits going to be after the HoT…) and you buffed some other builds while keeping the mediguard as it is.

Again: you are right! Our “premade” was: double medi+thief. The game gave us two more meditation guardians. Basically we exploded players. Not killed them. Oneshot. And this should not exist. Sure if you premade a comp it stays as it is but matching 2 more of the same profession in a team where 2 of them already presents… Funny.

Solo and Party should be on a separate queue. Either 5v5 or 1 against PUG. HotJoin and Unranked must be not affected.

You are right… I just finished a game against a double-necro/double ranger team… (our face was melted…)

Also a few minutes ago i was in a team with 3 other guardians… (we won this one…:P)

I can imagine that a full prof stack group can be fun but hey! MM should not do this!

Staff 3 is the worst source of swiftness in this game. You have to stand in the circle for like 4 seconds to get the full benefit. Meanwhile a thief outruns you with a single dagger2. I do not think that a prof should be binded to 2 shouts and a crappy weapon to achieve what others can do with a minor trait.

In wvw and spvp it’s so bloody obvious there is only ONE chance you get without movement speed runes. You are a bunker.

I main a guardian in sPvP and I think “teefz R fine”. Theye are the most annoying enemies I can find. LichForm-necro is a cakewalk compared to them (I see Lich I run)

The problem is that the thief just pushes out the other zerker builds from the popular compositions. A celestial build should not have a problem against a thief unless +1… and this is what they do. And they do it like nobody else!
Also a bunker must not loose against a thief in 1v1. They must be able to hold the point until +1 comes. Enemy or friend? Does not matter.

But nowadays some zerker guardian (and ranger) builds are able to fight a thief toe-to-toe and mostly win. Since the thieves got some counter there is a rise in necro-mesmer playerbase.

So from a 1 zerk(thief) 3 celestial 1 bunker setup the composition shifts for something like:
2-3 zerk (gua-mesmer-thief or necro) and 1-2 celestial and 1 bunker.

P.S.: thief is not OP but there are some OP thief players!

TS or any other voice communication makes even 2 players superior to the other two who has no access to a voicecomm option.

Solution: make some emotes! Like FollowMe! ProtectMe! StayHere! and so on… Maybe choosen from a contextual menu like in LoL… (I’m not a huge supporter of LoL but this befinitely helps coordinating PuG groups…)

Now we have two: AttackMyTarget! and GoThere! (aka Ping). And these are not enough!

If you think about it for a second… The most important informations told on the TS-Ventrillo-Skype are:
-XY Go there!
-I go there!
-Stay here because XY is coming…
-I’m out-of-CD’s HALP!!!44!!

If these “voices” could be announced via a small interface the biggest benefit of a voicecom would suddenly disappear.

More order-giving emotes would make the PuG’s life much easier!

We got different playstyles. This is good

Even with Vigor and Heal on dodge I try timing my dodges to avoid the big or unblinded hits. This means that my Endurance bar is full most of the time. If I have to do a double dodge it usually means that I’m going to loose the point anyways and that +10% damage won’t help me too much (except against pewpew rangers. If I double dodge their LB burst it’s usually a game-over for them).

While using on-demand Burn ability helps me to time my burst, keep up the FieryWrath bonus AND save my precious dodge for the “sad moments”

Also one more suggestion: If you go 6 into honor try using Rage runes. It has an incredible burst potential with FW, Elusive Power, +5% damage from Force sigil, +5% damage from rune set bonus and Intel sigil.

Dodge-Banish-JI-MightyBlow+Fire/Air proc-swap to GS-WhirlingWrath. If somehow your foe stunbreaks out: pop PurgingFlames-GS5-GS5-leap. This is devastating as hell (the only problem: I’m not good enough to play full zerker-no support build. I have to L2P a bit more So I usually run Rage+Barbarian Amulett).

EDIT: you just gave my some nice ideas! If I could manage to put the ElusivePower-UnscatchedContender-FieryWrath in one build… I could give some “WTF o.O” momentsto my opponents.

(Eh, but I also like to give some support at mid… so it’s likely a 66666 build with 2 sets of Runes)

Hi there!

I currently use a variant of your build. I feel that with Speed runes you do not really need the Force of Will trait. So I put these two points in Radiance and Virtues or both points into Virtues.

21641 gives some added utility and +1 blind (but in this case you could run the traditional 21614 build).

The next one is my favourite: 20642 with Master of Consecration and Purging Flames utility. PF can really help you to pull out some nice combos with Fiery Wrath. The AoE burst condi removal helps your teammates and it is a FireField to blast.

Hitting somebody in the Flames with Mighty Blow + Glacial Heart + Fire/Force while Intelligence Sigil is equipped is a death sentence for any zerker.
