Hehe OP you just saved my day…
I laughed so hard….
Thank you!
@TheOneWhoSighs:
Thank you for not calling me an idiot! I’m absolutely aware that developing a game takes time just like everything else.
Here is an example for you. No offence I just try to make my point clear…
If you make a new part with a shiny new tool with a CNC machine:
-first you check some outer informations. What is the tool capable of? Feed rate? Spindle speed?
-then you run some simulations to check some of the results (broken inserts/tools/dead operators, etc…)
-then you make a trial run with wax so if the sad kitty hits the fan the damage is minimal
-then you try the whole process with normal materials/tools but you absolutely need an operator to stay with the machine, stick to it and alter/finetune anything if necessary. Some damage may occur (broken inserts) but he can save the material and the tool by stopping the whole process and adjust some parameters even if the supplier said : “this tool can do this and that…”
I hope you get my point (no offence really)
The damage control is important in every industry not just in videogames.
Thank you Morwath I see now…
Why do any work if the “phat moni” comes after achieved goals?
They might have given a three month time to “fix” ESPORTS….
So February it is!
Unfortunately I won’t be here at that time…. I’ll be busy watching Twitch I guess…
Or maybe not.
Rifle warrior is so strong that it even made every thief just running away from the game!
I’m serious!
Nova:
How?
How can they revert the damage?
Announcing a 15 pages nerf list for HoT elite specs?
Reseting the MMR?
Deleting the DesertBL’s and remake the Alpines?
Deleting the 40% of the ammies/runes from PvP?
Reverting half of their one year work and sending an apologise-email to everyone who already left?
No chance….
They won1t do it… And I tell you why…
You can rely on them that you cannot rely on them….
Any other company would at least collect data from my feedback…
Here they delete my post to make their data collecting better….
They said the next season will be better… they announced a patch for Wvw as well…
WHY WAIT?
The OP is somewhat right…
Before the PirateSkritt meta the melee clashed relying on the support from the Backliners. If the PainTrain broke through than Dwayna’s Blessing was needed for a BL to survive. Their only defence was their spreading.
After the PirateSkritt meta the Backline starts poking and Dwayna’s Blessing is needed for a melee to survive. Their only defence is stacking.
So I call BS on the statement that if you got killed by a ranged nuke you have to L2P. Ranged sacrifices nothing in this meta. Low risk – High reward.
The current wvw combat system favoritise ranged so much it’s not even funny anymore.
Do you guys (who flaming the OP) remember the good ol’ days when a good thief could change the game and win?.
I do…
It’s not his fault that everybody and their mother’s dog plays unbalanced cheese kitten what pushed the thief out of the RANKED meta (it’s still a good pick in unranked…).
Just remember this when the Rev/Chrono/DH(what I play)/Tempest/Scrapper got nerfed and get suddenly soft-countered by teefz.
Happy Guardin’!
Deserted BL is just huge… 20 min of running and if you are lucky you can find one or 50 players to fight against.
In EotM this is different a bit… 10 min Ktrain/pvd, but after this a good 5 minutes of fight…
Ktrain-fight-Ktrain-fight rinse repeat.
I saw more small Vs small fights in EotM in 3 hours than I saw it in the DBL’s in two weeks.
And I don’t give a flying kitty about karma-loot-wxp or other bullkittens… But I’m telling you I rather go there for finding a fight than any DBL’s.
Hell last time when the enemy blob was beated and they started to run away I got their commander (i’m only 90% sure)… So I run to his body, performed a /bow and I let him survive… It was better for our game! To let the opposite team regroup faster and attack us faster…
I would never think I say this:
EotM is better than the BL’s if you want some fight….
Stick to your prof…
Tell them: it’s better to be a honest thief than a traitor/bandwagoner/FotMplayer Rev/Tempest/DH/Druid/Scrapper/whatever…
And play as you have never played before because thief is underpowered. I feel really sorry for them as I stated in my many posts.
And any ways: I rather want a good thief in my party than a kitty DH or Tempest or “invincible” revenant.
My 2 c
It’s not a bug!
ANET is just testing us if we like this idea….
I should not tell you (I won’t name my source of course…) but their idea is to paint pink crosses on walls and other structures and if you are skilled enough you can make the other players struck.
Well apparently the testing takes some time (up to 3 years) but hey…
It’s ANET!
It’s ESPORT!
aaand tadaaam… it’s combined now! Hur-Hur!
Nevermind the mid-air immob… They took this feature from the Matrix movies… So cool… You should be happy they do not sell this in the Gem Store… It’s free for everyone….
Every weapon a Guardian can use is balanced but the Longbow is more balanced than the others?
I know this is a bit off topic but still:
If you see an “unaware” target shot LB#3 then LB#2 (so they hit the same time) follow up with one auto attack then swap to GS (hammer supposed to be here but ANET “bugfixed” it) start channel #2 and after 0.5 sec cast Judge’s Intervention. Fire-Air-Leeching sigils are optimal.
After you tried this I would like to know what you think
We did a quick run in EotM (yeah, I know…). Had no time to analyse everything but here are some points:
1, in chokepoints we were an absolute blast. Anything did not have pulsing stability just melted.
2, overloading is not a buff… it’s a decision. Time it right and the reward is huge… Screw it and you die.
3, you have to stay in “normal” staff mode for as long as possible then overload in melee but only if you know you can survive for a few seconds (it helps if you have a dedicated Hammer DH gua as a bulldog!
). Overloading in lost situations won’t save the day unlike some other professions’ skills or utilities.
Take everything above with a grain of salt please… This is our first time and we were on the EotM map.
Tomorrow we’ll give it another go and I’ll let you know how it went…
Hehe the memories!
I main a guardian and I remember the old days when D/D ele was a thing. My meditation guardian was countered by them badly.
Then all the sudden the meta shifted and I had really hard matchups with DiamondSkin eles while my main was a Burn Guardian.
With the HoT I respecced for DragonHunter which is hard-countered by the Tempests… Oh, the sweet irony
All my time spent playing Guardian I was hard countered by elementalists
(This is not a cry-post honestly)
I did not like the “bring 3-4 D/D’s and call it a premade” days in sPvP but this “bring a tempest to hard-counter every DH” isn’t good either…
I do not blame the Elementalists. This profession needs skill and positioning. You must be rewarded if played right.
I blame ANET!
Sylpheed called you a necromancer not because of your profession but because you resurrected a.k.a. “necroed” a 2 years old thread. So no s/he was not trolling
Guardians can be excellent supports including providing some heals… But I do not think the healing output worth the investment. As I said in your OriginalPost:
- 1000 Healing power is far enough.
- your toughness is overkill, get some HealthPoints, power, precision and ferocity.
- the strong part of the guardian support is not the sheer amount of heal but the other support things like Aegis, Block, Blinds, Quickness, etc…
The Guardian is not a weak profession at all but please leave the “healerthingy” for Druids or even Tempests.
Happy Guardin’!
Guys! Why is the rush? Can’t we wait a few more month to get a hotfix?
ANET: every movement skill/utility now unaffected by movement conditions such as swiftness-superspeed-cripple-chill except a FEW…
What is wrong with this?
You Guardians are all crybabies!
“sob-sob”
>Aggro goes into a dark corner to cry quietly…
We have to know in what situation you want o use this? Raids? Dungeons? Outdoor PvE?
As casius van said but here are some other things you have to know…
Healing power scales badly on guardian… So you need 1000-1200 top most.
Toughness scales badly on guardian. If you can achieve something like 2600 you should be fine. Do not forget that the more armour stat you have the more likely an NPC mob is attacking you instead of the party members you try to heal!
Even if you are a healer your DPS counts! I would cut of 300 from Heal and about 500 from toughness and shift these to Precision/Power.
I see that you run Virtues… This is a really good choice.
If you use Mace/Shield you should try Honor! This makes you specialise in Shouts or Symbols. Both are solid choices. Staff also gets some benefits.
Your third trait line can be anything really… Valor offers some self sustain and a nice party buff or Aegis. Radiance and Zeal are more about damage but as I said you should not underestimate the damage a well built heal guardian can offer.
A Honor/Zeal/Virtue build with AegisShare can offer some really nice party burst on large scale fights for example.
Your utilities are affected the trait choices you made… If you trait for shouts use at least 2-3 of them. If you trait for symbols use some Consecrations or even Merciful Intervention for mobility in fights.
Happy Guardin’!
We will really miss the Defence against guard buffs :P
I do not want to go pure support or defence but from my sPvP experience a guard can be bursted down incredibly quickly. Last time I played wvw I had full soldier armour and zerker everything else but I think the meta has so much power-creep that surviving will be an issue. I aim for 50% crit with fury, 175% crit damage, 2300 power and put the rest on defensive stats (I will keep all my rings/ammies in my backpack…).
For the ele gameplay: as you mentioned locking yourself out of water for example can be a lethal situation especially she has only one cantrip. So I understand she wants to play a bit more defensive. Finding the right balance might take days or weeks.
My biggest fear is based on the incredible difference between us in in-combat mobility.
Getting separated IS a big issue since I move at a speed of a very lazy continent compared to her speediness.
I still believe we could be a respectable duo if built and played right. Time will tell this
p.s.: I was even thinking: what if she would be the “frontliner” and me the kiter/nuker…
WvW is so “new” for us basically we have to rediscover it
Thank you for your time (and please make that tempest staff vid happen… There is none on youtube… and to be honest with you I cannot believe my missis is the only one looking for a staff tempest build/gameplay video… staff ele was so popular back in the history :S )
Thank you for the replies!
She still did not decided if she wants to play aurashare or a more selfish build. The core differences are small (2-3 traits and food buff if I’m right…). But these are the small things that can be changed on the fly.
My idea was also using Hammer as a secondary weapon to support her with CC. We should not have issues with Conditions so I might trait for the reduced Hammer CD as well.
My plan is to use a minimum amount of traps (maximum two, Test of Faith for CC and Fragments of Faith for Aegis and Stability) and use as much supportive utilities as I can.
The Feel My Wrath elite shout must be evil with Meteor/LavaFont/Overload
Is there any trick we must master with the overloads?
Also:
Is full celestial really mandatory? She only has the Chest armour, two earrings and the ammulett with ascended cele stats. Should she get some healing power/condition damage pieces as well?
Thank you for your time!
Hi there fellow elementalists!
The holidays are coming and we decided to do some wvw again. We really enjoyed some guild roams and even some mindless zerging back in the ol’ days.
So we are after some kind of list of the currently viable elementalist builds for duo/small scale/zerging. I did check metabattle but the informations provided there was not enough for us to decide.
Additional informations about us:
1, I main a guardian, mostly power (mix of zerker/knight and soldier) DragonHunter but I had my zerg-peon Soldier and my Burn Carrion gear undusted. Her gear is mostly soldier+knight with some celestial pieces. Changing a few accessories or exo armor is not an issue at all if needed.
2, She does not like the melee gameplay. I did check Gokil’s videos for example but she does not want to play Dagger main hand (sorry dagger fans…).
3, We have some minimal sPvP/WvW experience already so hopefully we won’t stain our underwear if a 2v3 is coming our way…. We are early Bronze.
4, We’re gonna play mostly 2-5 strong group but occasionally joining a BlueTag.
Can you guys please give us some informations about the:
1, staff
2, tempest
3, other weapons
4, other traits and gear options?
We did not log into WvW since the pirate ship meta was “introduced” so we can use every bit of info.
How is the Ele in the current small/zerg meta? What are the roles? Aurashare? Nuke? Healing? MightStack? Putting the kettle on?
Also we would like to ask for good and entertaining videos/montages of the gameplay.
So feel free to give us links
Thank you!

This is my problem as well…
Every time I try to make a burn DH build I end up swapping the LB to something else, like scepter+torch. I think the Longbow is much better in hybrid builds. But If I try to make a hybrid build I end up using less and less condi damage traits/gear such getting a power LB build as a result.
So I do not think LB can be fitted well into a min/maxed burn build.
If you do not min/max than it is petty viable.
@Kyoushu:
A few information for you:
Traits:
Zeal (2,2,3): great with GS and Mace. If you use this trait line your rotation is the following: Leap in cast Symbol, WhirlingWrath, BindingBlade, BindingBlade again, autoattack untill the mobs are dead or swap to Mace and cast #2 or #3.
Valor (2,2,2) your sustain trait line. You should use at least 2 meditations. Judge’s Intervention is a staple for general PvE since it gives you mobility and a heal. Generaly useful trait with every weapon.
Virtues (1,1,1) excellent with Scepter and Torch since you can keep the Unscathed Contender bonus for longer.
Radiance (1,2,1) works very well with Sword, Scepter and most impartantly with the Torch. Throw Torch skill becomes a real nuke.
Utilities:
Heal: Shelter… this is the basic Heal. The block is very handy in dire situations.
Judge’s Intervention: mobility, damage and heal if traited in Valor.
Smite Conditions: low CD damage, condi remove and Heal. If you take Valor and you cast any healing skill you also cast this! So extra heal and damage.
Retreat!: mobility and Aegis. Helps keeping the Unscathed Contender’s bonus if you take Virtues.
Bane Signet: more damage means faster killing means less damage taken
Elite:
Feel My Wrath! for group play or soloing veterans + 4-5 mobs at the same time.
Renewed Focus (if you took Valor) for more heal and general solo play.
Final notes:
Do not spam your Virtues unless the Justice is traited in Radiance! They do make a difference.
Make sure your weapon is never lower by 5 levels than you.
Make sure your armour pieces are never lower by 10 levels than you.
Use cheap food for faster levelling and increased stats.
Happy Guardin’!
No point for making a CDI then wait till it gets to 1500 comments THAN ignore it completely…
I do not want any CDI…
In the case the balancing team has no idea AT ALL how to sort this out they MUST leave.
It’s just: we had betas we gave feedback…
it’s live now so we are giving them feedback every seconds….
if ANET will ask me now to participate in a CDI (which takes a few month…) I would go on the streets and hunt down every cat I find… Less kitten = better game.
We already told them! If they screw it up again then sorry pal! You should get a nice jobseeker-allowance there while looking for a new job….
Or just keep it up and wave that flag (ANET Balancing Team)….
A few homeless may give you a couple of coins….
@Arken:
No this is not much to ask but do not forget that ANET just pumped 200k into the PvP so it is likely they won’t have a dime to spend on polishing, bugfixing, balancing…
Anyways? Why the hell are you crying? You have E-sport enjoy it! You cannot be serious and believe that ANET will spend ANY amount of dollars based on your feedback when the have a HUGE tournament going on?
Give them a year or so and they might make the new builds acceptable. You want some old stuff to get attention but hey dude… It’s so twothousendfifteen… who cares?
Who the hell want’s to play with Guardian, Thief, Warrior…
It’s like you blame Nokia because you do not have 3G on a 6810….
/sarcasm off
/me checking out other MMO’s
(edited by Aggrostemma.1703)
I would give it a slight twist…
No class stacking in Party Queue!
Solo Q: Fine come along with whatever you want! The system is going to match you with anything…
But if you Duo or more : One profession = one player… That’s it!
Prof-Stacking can still happen but not “organised-stacks”!
If somebody gets into the queue with one ore more team members they MUST choose different professions.
Obviously this means no prof-stacking in ESL-Premades either…
EDIT: and this would be THE point ANET could start doing the real balancing things….
EDIT2: sorry for the capital letters….
EDIT3: and I would do the same with the ammulettes and runes as well. One group may only choose one ammy and rune only once. There would still be some OP combinations in party queue but the players had to be wise how to distribute the ammy-rune possibilities…
(edited by Aggrostemma.1703)
Hi there!
I would go with Scepter+Torch and Virtue instead of Honor.
Something like this:
Explanation:
1, You need Fury from the Inner Fire trait (RAD) on demand (like MightyBlow). With this you have the Torch#4 and the PurgingFlames as well so timing these well gives you 16 sec Fury.
2, Scepter+Torch gives you a ranged option where facetanking is not optimal. Also it has a nice immob to save your bottom.
3, Traited Scepter Immob + Unscathed Contender + AutoAegis from Virtue + ThrowTorch (+ Retreat! if got hit) +Throw it again if crit + F1 + MightyBlow + Blood or Leech Sigil can pretty much oneshot a normal mob and seriously cripple a veteran.
4, With PurgingFlames you have a nice condi remove AND a good offensive tool using the same utility slot. Do not underestimate it! It frees up the trait for GlacialHeart.
P.S.: I would not use runes for survival in PvE… Mobility (for world) or more damage. Flame Legion runes are cheap.
Mace is also very powerful it hits like a truck but I feel using a ranged weapon set is more beneficial. Torch is a nuke weapon and scepter is excellent for setting up bursts or going lazy-mode.
Just my two cents…
Happy Guardin’!
Vieux P:
OMG Stronghold has bugs!!!
They better keep it locked until they fix it! We can still play with the free-of-bugs and well balanced Conquest can’t we?
Do not bother that the Stronghold is the entry pvp-map for a pve player! kitten them! They must learn conquest because it is ESPORT! The SH is for scrubz!
Thanks for God (or ANET) these scrubs will have aaaaaall the Christmas shutdown to play those awesome Conquest maps with their fresh mechanics and balanced gameplay!
“-You wanna be an e-sport player?
-No.
-No problem we will FORCE you to be!”
OK, this was unsportmanship… What now?
Buff mesmers?
Do you want them to kneel down and beg for your pardon? Do you watch F1 or football?
They knew they have no chance to win! And unlike some other sports they do not have a manager, they do not have a boss to slap them on the face afterwards… They play because the are players. They were acting like a man who is fed up with all this unbalanced crap while the rules written by others failed and are unplayable….
It’s like playing as a midfielder in FIFA or the EC while every scorer is able to bring a 9mm pistol to the match…
They did not say which year though….
I think ANET team had just split into 4 groups (development, marketing, communication, money-counters) and each knows kitten all about what the other three does.
All is vain!
Hi Prince!
I see that you are a bit upset, partly rightfully…
I want to share my experience with the DH since the expansion…
Guardian is my main so I was hyped in the BWE2 and 3. when HoT came out I started to play with 4 traps and either Shelter or Renewed Focus. In the first two weeks I was really happy to wreck random faces (not that a burn or a standard medi gua could not do the same, but you know: new and shiny…). Mesmers, Rangers and some Necroes with minions mopped the floor with my bottom a few times so I had to change my build…
After a few weeks I realised that I’m all right with 3 traps topmost… Heal (or not), one or two utilities (tof or pob) and the elite…
All the players got used to the DragonMaw and started to nuke me so I slotted the RenewedFocus back just to get a few more seconds in teamfights. I even changed my ammy to Barbarian because I dropped like a fly…
The healing trap was unpractical in teamfights so I slotted the Shelter back again…
What I have now: Shelter, ToF, JI, Purging Flames, and Dragon’sMaw…
I do not trait for daze… It just makes my life harder. Soaring Devastation gives me a nice immob what can be used to land a GS burst.
This is the ONLY build I can play with traps since a DH who only uses traps is handing his head on a silver plate to the enemy.
This is a L2P issue for both side…
Let me explain:
A DH who relies only on his traps is a bad player!
Someone who dies only for the traps is a bad player!
tl:dr:
A DH who worths his salt won’t put every egg into the same basket. Sure you sometimes die for a shatter mes or a trap DH or a Vault Thief or a Gun warrior but it’s your job to learn these and act accordingly…
My two cents…
Happy Guardin’!
As others said:
Speed runes (they are fairly cheap you can slot them even in karma gear), GS leap, sword teleport, Judge’s Intervention and the Shout Retreat! makes you really fast! I mean REALLY fast
The two teleports can help where no swiftness can be effective: to make shortcuts. So the offhand should be focus to block the annoying attacks like immob from spiders or cripple from other mobs.
A guardian built for map exploration can be very fast but unfortunately they have to use 2 given weapons and two utilities… (no, the staff is not a mobility weapon if solo…)
If you are a DH then you have other source of movement a.k.a. F2 and the swiftness trap. This makes you even faster.
So tldr: a DH exclusively built for movement is as fast as a thief or a warrior….
+1
I will wait until ANET fixes the issues you mentioned…
Classic options for low to mid sPvP games:
Necro (signet)
Guardian (meditation, burn)
Elementalist (staff support)
These are still powerful builds… I don’t know any other because I don’t play other classic specs often or at all.
Guardian has no movement trait.
Here are the options:
1, Traveller or Speed runes
2, Pack runes for group play or maybe Centaur
3, Shouts like Retreat! and Save Yourselves!
4, Meditations like Merciful or Judge’s Intervention (teleport)
5, Staff for swiftness symbol
6, 1h Sword for blink or GS for leap.
7, Light’s Judgement for swiftness on trap trigger.
I’m not sure but I think I listed all of them.
Happy Guardin’!
You are seriously complaining about DH?
I’m not a top pvp player but it took me less than 2 hours to find out how to beat them 1v1.
In teamfight it’s a bit more tricky…
The DH is a prof what you do not want to be unchecked…
But it’s so black and white seriously…
If a DH is in melee range get ready to dodge/break, if in range reflect/invu and send a bruiser out there.
Between these two they cannot do anything!

JoshuaRAWR:
Thanks for the “READ THIS!” part
(but if you change the title to including “visual” you won’t meet me…
)
JoshuaRAWR:
yes you are right!
I have to apologise here and now!
I yet have to experience the invisible trap feature but I can imagine how frustrating it can be….
I was fighting DH’s left and right and I also play a DH some time but I did not see such a problem…
(EU server-from UK-high settings-no GEMFX-weak computer just if you want to know….)
OP please get this kitten out of me….
DH is strong in 1v1 and 2v2 and useless above this…
It is nowhere to being OP and far from meta…
Yes, Guardian is a hard counter to Thief so you can see every side!
Just the post we needed…. from WizardBro.
Nobody is saying DH is OP anymore because they are a piece of kitty in tournaments now…. Out of 80 players there were 4-5 DH’s in the first week and 2 in the last.
You seem to be lagging TBH…
Oh, and ANET did a kitten job balancing AND they were also lying about the balance patch! So if you want to protect ANET do it so but get ready to be a target now….
My 2c

Hey, they hate you! And me!
We’ve already bought the game and every single penny to make our enjoyment better is a penny through the window for them!
We players are a necessary BAD!
You make the best profit for them if you buy the Xpac every year or so and never-ever log in!
Didn’t you know?
Welcome to Business-land!
NonToxic might hit it on the head…
But this is the fault of ANET again!
If the game (i mean sPvP) was entertaining for a beginner and s/he had some support (not just the forums, what I stated above) s/he might be playing it!
Now we had this no-ranked cancer to turn away every f2p player who wanted to try spvp. The twitch is barely watchable so why would a “random-iron-farmer-guy” try the spvp?
Honestly guys, put your hands up if you were trying this game out as a f2p NOW and would stay for years! Would you?
I personally would run as far as I could and never look back….
(sorry for my English I was really struggling to put this crap together…)
Yes they have to put some support behind their own game!
1, rewatchable games
2, double screen while streaming (or a mini screen)
3, builds, changes, STATISTICS (it’s a shame that Morwath had to make one… +1 BTW)
4, hell, even bloody skin effects so the PvE player might check this out for some “kitten-looking” gear….
Marketing /= Developing
If you watch my twitch channel I give away 1000 gold every hour…. Come and watch me!
side notes:
1, I don’t have a channel
2, I will send the 1000 gold to my friend who instantly sends it back…
3, I going to repeat this every hour
I was not lying at all!
Sam:
Excellent idea!
I think WoT and WarThunder has the same feature. You can download matches and analyse them. This would be really nice and while the casters are trashtalking or having a 5 min break you could watch the crutial moment everybody and their mother going to talk in the next few days.
A third caster could even rewatch some of these moments while the break last.
You could download matches to learn, study and experience with your favorite prof.
One more thing:
They should consider a mini-screen where the chat used to be so they can show two different action in the same time…
Like someone is doing 1v1 on the mini while the main screen focuses on a 2v3 or something like this….
In todays money this wouldn’t even cost 1 dollar….
Eh what about NO?
A: the game is played for the win and not for the score!
B: a system what rewards camping is a very bad idea!
