How about a way to form groups and organize effectively.

There are some people who have more than 5 friends/guildmates and don’t want to turn on the pin and have a zerg showup. Why arenanet hasn’t addressed a way to create private/guild only medium size forces is beyond me. Something I may have mentioned on occasion

Because there is NO in game grouping system for more than 5 people EXCEPT a zerg!

Let’s see, we can follow a big blue visual pin that helps people to rally and form easy OR we can make multiple groups that have to mark a driver with a bullseye and use a 3rd party voice program to coordinate between groups. People will always do what’s easier.

It’s time to get private/guild only squads that are flexible enough to create custom forces that work best for players…. actually it was time in the beta weekends before release. Still astounded this hasn’t been added yet.

The grouping system AND the Commander Icons need to be fixed, BADLY! There needs to be an option to show where all of your guildies are on the same map as you, like how you can see your party members as little blue dots, and/or there needs to be an increase in party size, to at least 10 members, if not 15, even if this is for WvW only, AND there needs to be several changes to the Command Icon’s functionality; relevant to this discussion, there needs to be an option to turn on the Icon, form your Squad, then make the Icon ONLY visible to Squad members until you decide to make it publicly visible again! Also, different colored Icons would help a lot.

You, me and most players feel this way. One of the changes that would impact social grouping and create a more dynamic WvW by spreading players over the battlefield has been completely ignored.

A flexible C&S system is a change that effects all WvW and also PvE events. By allowing people to form in-game forces that are not a zerg or a 5 man you create a whole new dynamic. The frustration of players trying to create custom forces without the use of an in-game system is beyond unacceptable.

Single biggest thing needed by ArenaNet in WvW is a flexible grouping system. Should have been in at release and DEFINATLEY should have been addressed by now.

I believe they have colored pins coming… you may have your wish. Unfortunately that’s not at the top of my list. I’d prefer to see private/guild only squads in first.

I believe on the last data mined patch they had different colored pins in the code. Red, purple and yellow. It was posted on Reddit.

What’s REALLY needed is a flexible system that players can use for whatever they need or works for them. A way to create private / guild only squads, and better functionality within that system. In-game grouping systems consist of up to 5 players or a Zerg. We need a way to form a public/private/guild only force with a specific number of players.

Give the players flexible tools and they players can organize the way that works best for them. Sure colors are nice… but let’s give the C&S system some flexibility and meaty changes!

Agree this is a huge priority for players and should have been in the game long ago. i wish the devs would bump this up the priority list as it’s on the top of most players list.

Of all the weird and self-destructive things that Anet have done (or not done) to WvW over the past year, this is the weirdest and most self-destructive.

In fact, it’s probably the only thing that has universal, unequivocal agreement from all involved parties (except Anet).

Does anybody think this is something that does NOT deserve the highest possible priority? Come on – don’t be shy.

You sir are seriously right. One of the most important parts of a social MMO and playing with friends is organizing the way you enjoy. I guess Anet thinks that the average person only has 4 friends to group with or is in a guild that only wants to zerg.

Anyone in between is out of luck…

This definitely should be THE HIGHEST priority on the list of WvW changes to get done.

WvW’s been the same since start so people get bored of it eventually.
As for Eotm, i think its only pretty looking map with champion farming u cant call that WvW. I cant say anyone that i know ingame that actually likes eotm. Maybe all this work could’ve been used to improve current maps and systems.

This is the biggest problem. ANet really done nothing for WvW. That’s why people will move to ESO because of “something new” when GW2 “the same from 2012”…
Where are FPS and Lag improvements?
Where are new type of siege?
Where are new tiers of defence upgrade?
Where are new mechanics on WvW borderlands?
Where are really something new?

yeah something new… like actually able to form a private or guild only squad without having people flock to the pin and form a zerg. C&S system upgrade is a good start for helping WvW….. but it appears only the players feel that way.

good luck I have given up.

It’s easy to get discouraged. The perceived apathy from Anet just fuels player frustration. They acknowledged the C&S system is devoid of functionality, they did a collaborative thread to get player feedback and suggestions but it still does not seem to be a priority.

It’s been 18 months, a year and a half of players asking for a functional grouping system that meets the needs of all players and guilds. Instead we have one way in-game to group over 5 people….. zerging. Anything else requires 3rd party voice and marking drivers while multiple groups get scattered everywhere.

It should be easy to form private or guild only forces, not frustrating.

It’s the lack of priority for the C&S system that needs to change. Anet has all the constructive player feedback regarding the C&S but apparently is not understanding just how frustrated players and guilds are with the inability to organize properly.

If they did understand then this would have been fixed a long time ago.

I think we need the priority level on the C&S system to be moved UP the que. Anet has gotten our constructive feedback and knows what players would like. I understand it takes time to completely rebuild a new system, but a few tweaks to the existing system go a long way alleviating player frustration.

Players and guilds are FRUSTRATED with the grouping systems… and have been since release.

Arenanet somehow still seems dazed and confused on how to implement commander tag changes, more than a year after suggestions like this have come up. I like the idea of color changes according to what role you’re currently doing, public havok or guild.

In the event of a commander tag update they should rename the commander tag to ‘Ahmrill tag’.

If indeed they EVER update the commander tag Ahmrill will have been one of the people that repeatedly reminded us and developers just how poorely implemented the current commander tags are.

Anet understands the system is NOT up to par, they have stated so. Yet it’s such a low priority for something that frustrates players on a daily basis. I realize changes to the commander and squad system don’t generate revenue from the gem store…. but players generate revenue.

Make some quick fixes ASAP…. like making private/guild only squads. If they don’t have resources or time to implement a completely new system at least give us basic tools to work with. We haven’t had basic tools since launch….

That was over 6 months ago. Maybe they changed their minds (not likely).

commander tag should be account bound and need some commander skills,its 100g such a costly thing.making it account bound will make wvw more better and it will be worth buying a tag.

Listen, I am not sure if I will get infracted for this or not, but Anet devotes a small percentage of their resources to fixing small stuff like this (I know, I know, it is not a small thing to us the players, but it is small to them, the developers). Since there is no subscription to the game, they make their money on gem purchases and new players. Fixing the grouping/tagging system is small potatoes. The majority of development resources is spent on new content to attract new players, and as with this new release, give the current players something new and/or exciting right when a new MMO is releasing.

That’s it exactly… there is no financial benefit in focusing resources on a functional Commander and Squad system. You know it, I know it and Anet knows it. I’m sure it’s on their “to do” list if they have time or desire to get around to it.

Most of us are not even asking for a complete revamp of the system with a fancy UI interface. We’re just asking that you can flag the commander pin public/private and still retain all the functions currently in the game. At least guild members could create a private squad and those people invited to the squad can see the private pin instead of having an extra 30 people flock to a “guild” run.

If they want to do a complete revamp sometime in the future that’s great. For now how about making some FUNCTIONAL changes for guilds instead of a one trick zerg magnet we’ve used since launch.

Yeah, I know about the different colors of commander tags, but that tag is for the whole map to see, not just guildies. I know about the join squad feature, but our guild leader wants to run as a guild w/ a few other peeps from other guilds mixed in and doesn’t want the map zerg rushing to his tag.

Like it was posted earlier… we’ve been asking for this since day one.

I just don’t get it. Gw2 commander and squad system is the worst multiple grouping system I’ve used in MMO’s for 7 years. Anet has acknowledged it lacks functionality and they have received feedback from countless players….. annnnd NOTHING.

There is another MMO coming out this April and guess what…. it has a flexible multiple group system people can use for private (guild) or public use.

Appalling it has gone unchanged this long…..

Just curious if any of the changes discussed in the Collaborative Development Commander Thread may be added for the WvW spring Tournament? It’s great that you are having a new tournament, it would also be great if we had the tools to organize effectively. I really hope that changes to the commander and squad system are a main priority for Arenanet when it comes to new content.

We still need a flexible grouping system that can be used by all guilds and players for both public grouping and private/guild only forces.

WvW isn’t just for your guild, not sure why people keep thinking it is.
Use voice comms it is really easy to roam together without needing a tag.

Oh boy…

Running with voice comms is pretty much the only way for private or guild forces to organize. Is it the easiest and most effective…. absolutely not. Having that visual in game pin is much more effective for organizing and stacking when running multiple groups. But you lose any chance of controlling the size and makeup of a small/medium havoc force when “pinning” up. And there is always someone who doesn’t have voice comms installed or running.

We need that “private” option for squads so we can use the visual pin for small forces, guilds and private squads.

The lack of flexible in-game grouping tools for guilds to organize is still a frustration and an issue. I’m just wondering if anyone has heard of any changes yet.

Well there’s one, making the commander icon visible to the commander………. oh wait no-one asked for that.

Isn’t that funny, that entire Collaborative thread no one asked for the pin to be self visible and it’s the only change they made. Doesn’t bode well for the rest of the stuff players asked for….

The single biggest, and probably the easiest, change to enhance WvW. A flexible and useful grouping system to meet ALL player and guild styles. Anet already has all the feedback on what players want….. we need to see some action on this.

C&S system is simply a sub-par one trick pony grouping system atm.

And bringing up DAOC and WAR as examples of great WvW. Seriously? Where are those games? CC + AOE basically destroyed game balance in WAR and caused a mass exodus of players. And DAOC was never popular.

Why not just argue that communism was a great success?

Have to disagree on some points there. DAOC was a great game, and is still running today using a $15 a month subscription fee system in the days of free to play MMO’s. It’s simply an outdated engine with no new development.

Warhammer is another matter, bad design and being released to early contributed to it’s defeat. They ignored the things they did right in DAOC. Mythic choose not to
renew the Warhammer licensing deal when it expired with games workshop…. simply wasn’t profitable, otherwise it would still be running as free to play.

People keep bringing these up as Warhammer still had the BEST grouping system I’ve ever used for a large scale PvP MMO. And DAOC is still the best overall WvW (RvR) system I’ve ever used. Gw2 could eventually be better, but it’s not there yet and won’t be until Anet starts making it a priority.

That would be a decent change. But still doesn’t help guilds or players running with more than 5 players in multiple groups but don’t want a massive zerg flocking to the pin. We still need a way to form private or guild only squads that have pins hidden from public view.

IMO the easiest way to spread people in the zone more is….. wait for it… actually have a grouping system with more than a zerg option. Zerging is the ONLY in-game grouping system we have for more than 5 people. Sure multiple groups can try and run together using voice and bulls-eye marking. Flocking to the pin is less frustrating then trying to create an ad-hoc force of more than 5 people that doesn’t show a pin to everyone in the zone.

Private / guild only squads to create medium size forces is the easiest way to reduce zergs. We need an IN-GAME system with more flexibility for WvW.

Just read some of the Sacrx stuff. Seems to be a lack of resources for WvW. They have made some good changes with the EOTM update, fixing the que system with a place counter. As well as finally fixing the right-click menu for functions in WvW.

It still doesn’t help that games that came out 6 years ago had vastly superior grouping systems for WvW style combat and organization. Most of the things we requested are in the collaborative thread, so they are aware of them. Of course that doesn’t mean they are going to do everything we requested or do it any time soon.

I guess my biggest issue is how they C&S system is NOT a priority when discussing WvW.

You could just download Mumble or something similar.

The problem is you will never have everyone in vent/TS/mumble at the same time. Decent in-game systems are needed, which we don’t have atm.

Commander and squad changes are coming but we have no idea which of the changes we discussed, how they are being implemented or when they are being implemented. GW2 has a very limited and sub-par grouping system for more than 5 people and C&S needs priority now that EOTM is coming out.

The lack of flexible in-game grouping tools for guilds to organize is still a frustration and an issue. I’m just wondering if anyone has heard of any changes yet.

Any idea if improvements discussed about the commander and squad system are coming with this patch? Still the biggest source of frustration for our guild is trying to organize decently in GW2 using the in game system.

Yeah, some of us have families and work and don’t have time for standing around for hours or guesting everywhere trying to complete the event.

I’d prefer to see the spawn timer reduced

It’s very possible that the overflow you did it in already attempted it before you entered.

Someone from the first attempt mentioned it a has been 90 mins do far. Be nice to know the variance in respawn…. instead of standing around for hours.
